    Steamed artichoke

We found this spot on instagram and managed to walk in on the 2nd day of opening! Really liked the steamed artichoke which went really well with the creamy and tangy lemon remoulade dip. The cappaletti pasta was very good too, cooked perfectly al dente and served with a paramasean white sauce. They have a strong wine list as well! Service was excellent and the vibe / decor is great . Overall a nice cozy atmosphere that matches the neighborhood bistro vibe they're going for. Will definitely be back!

vibe: slightly upscale (more so than ragazza which used to be here) and bustling even on a tuesday night! we came with our toddler and it was decidedly not a baby-friendly spot though our server was very kind about it. we tried most of the menu: market salad (cucumber and melon) - elegant and tasty; however was quite small and had a tiny amount of melon. seared halloumi - perfect. 10/10 steamed artichoke - i don't know if this is normal for artichoke but the leaves were quite small and had less edible flesh than the ones i've had before. would not get again. cappalletti, steak frites, roasted chicken, black cod - all were amazing. we were especially impressed with the chicken but i wouldn't hesitate to reorder any of these. we also tried all three desserts (chocolate fondant, strawberry mascarpone bar, apricot tart) and the best was the apricot tart. only complaint is portion sizes here are very small. i agree with the other review saying how service was a bit slow and it was loud but that didn't bother me because our kid had a great time looking out the window!

Esme is a wonderful new addition to Divisadero and one of the better neighborhood openings I've visited recently. The dining room is warm and inviting, with classic French bistro touches that feel elegant without being stuffy. Service was friendly and attentive throughout the meal. We enjoyed almost everything we ordered. The black cod was beautifully cooked, with perfectly crispy skin over tender, flaky fish. The creamy beans underneath were rich and comforting without being heavy. The fresh pasta was clearly house-made and cooked to a perfect al dente texture. My favorite dish of the evening was the chicken stew with polenta--the chicken was tender, the sauce was deeply flavorful, and the creamy polenta tied everything together beautifully. The only disappointment was the steak frites. While the fries were excellent, the steak itself was a bit tough and lacked flavor. With better-quality beef or improved sourcing, I think it could easily become a standout. Overall, Esme delivers thoughtful cooking, quality ingredients, and a welcoming atmosphere. Aside from the steak frites, every dish impressed us, from salad to dessert, and we'll definitely be back to explore more of the menu. It's a great addition to the Divisadero dining scene.

Great food , service and ambience I read some previous reviews we didn't have any issues with the noise at all and were able to have a conversation with no problems, portions were perfect we were two friends and we shared 3 appetizers ( recommended by our lovely server ) and I had the blackened cod which was perfectly cooked and tasty . We also had the delicious Tartine bread and butter . We shared two desserts which were absolutely delicious apricot tart and strawberry mascarpone bar . Definitely would come again we made our reservations about 3 weeks ahead so I recommend that you make reservations as I did see them turning people away who just turned up . My friend and I go to a different restaurant every two weeks so this one is definitely on our go to again most !

Super cute new spot. We tried the artichoke, linguini, and steamed cod and loved everything. Great service, exciting to come back and try more.

Pretty good restaurant overall! The food was tasty, the service was friendly, and the atmosphere was nice. Nothing to complain about--we had a good experience and would definitely consider coming back.

This new French bistro style restaurant has the perfect vibe - and I could even hear the other people at my table. Every dish at at our table was rave worthy - not a normal experience at any restaurant. Service was strong. Excellent wine offerings at affordable pricing. I'll be back!

Before the meal started, we were served a small cup of corn soup. It was so intensely corny in the best way possible. It's sweet, creamy, and comforting. Loved it. The bluefin tuna was incredibly fresh, and the portion was generous. I also really enjoyed the zucchini, which added different textures to this dish and made it more interesting. The mackerel was delicious. The skin had this rich, gelatinous texture that I personally loved, and the flavors were super satisfying. The only dish that was a little disappointing was the pork ballotine. It looked incredibly tender and juicy, but it ended up being a bit drier than I expected. Dessert was definitely the highlight of the meal. I had never tried chamomile ice cream before, and it was such a pleasant surprise. It paired beautifully with the caramelized white chocolate, which added a rich, milky sweetness, and I loved the crunchy texture throughout the dish. The warm pistachio paste brought everything together perfectly. So, so good!

Now it's sixteen years later. After an early start to a Sunday Valkyries game, my friend brought us here for a post game dinner. After finding a parking space a block away, we walked up a little after 6:30 pm. When I reached the entrance, I noticed the sketch board and wrote my name below the names and guest numbers already there. When I asked the hostess, she told me it was likely a twenty to thirty minute wait. The dining room was packed as well as the sidewalk tables and outdoor dining structure. Being hungry and antsy, I walked the various tables to observe the service progression to estimate when we'd be seated. About 35 minutes later, we were seated at the sidewalk table next to the entrance and given menus. It's been a while so a menu study was needed. After some discussion, we decided on our meals and agreed to share bites of each other's food. First came the Acme French baguette and butter (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=b_xeRM764lejQiCnELp7OA), a necessary vehicle to sop any gravy or sauce. Two of us had the French onion soup (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=rJ9tQeC9Al9A0yCiHnA3Fw); it was as I remember, hearty broth chocked with tasty onions with gooey stretchy cheese underneath a nicely browned top. Their staple is consistent with what I remember. My friend ordered the Les Moules 24, poulette (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=ZgxJSrYmiEuwipp8uvkJHA), garlic, shallots, bacon, white wine, cream, parsley; the mussels were good, most if not all opened shells in a variety of sizes. The sauce or broth is the key especially with the baguette slices to enjoy the delicious flavors. For my main meal, i had the pork chop (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=tk0gypyufB2AL0olq-KPHA), Brussels sprouts, bacon, apple cider mustard sauce, suggested and cooked medium; I really enjoyed this as it had a nice outside sear while the meat was tender and still juicy after I cut in. The flavors from the accompaniments paired well and the portions were generous. In fact, a fellow diner mostly ate the accompaniments as our shared format in trying the other dishes filled my tummy. I tried a few bites of my friend's roasted duck confit, French fries (subbed from potatoes gratin), haricot vert, port reduction; sorry, no photo as this disappeared relatively quickly; the duck was tender and fork tender with a smoky flavor as it came right off the bone. I also tried another diner's fettucine, creamy white wine sauce, mushrooms (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=X5em6PctUtXUbiuM7uLmPg); the balance of sauce to pasta was perfect and you know me and mushrooms. It was tasty and is definitely hearty, portions and taste wise. As we dined, more diners added their names to the wait list until there were only two names left when we left around 8:30 pm. The guests were a mix of neighborhood locals and sports fans who came from events since Chase Center and Oracle Park are nearby. I saw a table with guys wearing Giants and Braves jerseys. Thanks to J. Garen who waited on our table and the bus staff who cleared empty plates and bowls and refilled out water glasses. Big thanks for Naomi, the hostess, who kept all waiting guests updated and kept a watchful eye to make sure the tables turn efficiently. As we left, we greeted waiting guests in Valkyries jerseys and we briefly talked about the game and, of course, gave our "Go Valks" cheer. Looking forward to our next meal here.
