Nice neighborhood French cuisine -- attentive staff and a warm host made the experience better! Interior has bar and indoor seatings, outdoor booth and street tables available! The mushroom pasta and soup are amazing!! Must try them out!!

The OG! Tried this after sooo many recs for the first time. It is definitely a local spot, family friendly, with the nicest staff. There is outside and limited indoor seating. It is smaller than their new location in Hayes Valley. Tried escargot for the first time. Their fries are also very very good. The French onion soup was a little too sweet. But overall pretty good and nice vibes.

This has to be one of my new favorites! I love it so much and I'm pretty surprised it took me so long to try it. This little gem of a French bistro is on the corner with a side parklet and a gorgeous energy. We arrived around 7 for dinner and were seated right away inside at a table for two. I had the salad Nicoise with seared tuna. He had the duck confit. Both were created with French attention to detail that made me feel at home in this neighborhood treasure.

Came here one day for lunch and ordered a variety of things: French Onion Soup: Came with caramelized white cheese of some sort, it was mild. Had some bread soaked into the soup, had good amount of onions, soup had some sweetness. It was okay. Fries with garlic aioli - Fries were crispy on outside and soft on inside, the garlic aioli was a nice addition. Would get again. Roasted Duck confit: Came with potatoes gratin, greens beans, port reduction. Roasted duck leg that was fall off the bone tender, juicy not dry, went nicely with the port reduction. The potato gratin is good, greens beans were just steamed/sauteed. Overall it is a pretty heavy dish but good. Would get again. Pan seared branzino: came with fregola sarda, red bell pepper coulis and olive oil and a side of lemon. The branzino was a touch fishy but still solid. The fish skin was crisp. Fregola sarda kind of reminds me of jumbo couscous. The red bell pepper coulis paired with fish add a little more to mask the fishiness. Apricot chardonnay sorbet: strong apricot flavor and some floral notes probably from the chardonnay. White peach champagne sorbet: taste like peach, don't taste the champagne. Both sorbet is refreshing and light but the white peach is too light to pair with other stuff. The white peach is fine by itself but cant eat it with other flavors. Overall, will be back here again.

Chez Maman East served up tasty French food with good service in a casual exterior (with heating) atmosphere on my visit. FOOD (Everything served was delish, especially the entrees!) - FRENCH "ACME" BAGUETTE & BUTTER - FRENCH ONION SOUP - ESCARGOTS DE BOURGOGNE: Parsley, garlic butter w snail tongs for slip control - PETRALE SOLE MEUNIERE: Pan seared petrale sole Meuniere, haricot vert - VEAL: Creamy white wine sauce, vegetables, mushrooms

I've been constantly passing by this place and seeing a busy line so finally had to try one weekday. Was busy as usual but I came with a group of two(highly recommended) as the seating was much faster than the larger parties. The portions for some of the entrees are huge so be mindful not to over order! We tried the mussels which were delicious and the sauce it came with was great with the fries from the hamburger. I found the burger to be way more luxurious than what you'd normally expect. Again be prepared some things can be quite large. we also tried the soup of the day which was this lovely tomato basil soup and the pork chop which was perfectly cooked with another great sauce that i kept on dipping the fries in. One last note is the atmosphere it definitely feels like a nice cozy cafe that makes you wanna stay and chat with ur neighbors. Had a blast and i'm looking forward to trying their other entrees someday!

chez maman has been on my list for awhile, and i finally got to try! with a party of 2 on a sunday at 6:30pm, there was a 10 minute wait which was perfectly reasonable. we sat at an outdoor table which was slightly slanted, but it was manageable. the french onion soup was soo good. the flavors are very nice, and the textures of the cheese, bread, and onion were incredible. the croque madame was also quite good, it was a fried (?) ham sandwich with an egg on top. the arugula salad had wonderful dressing. lastly, the mussels were decent, i wanted to try them since theyre a standard french faire but i was a bit let down by them. however, the fries were really great! overall, i would definitely come back to chez maman and get the french onion soup and another croque madame. really recommend this place!

I've been wanting to try chez maman for a while and my friend and I finally got the chance to come for dinner! they don't take reservations but we came early and were sat outside which was beautifully decorated with lights. I ordered the hachis parmentier which is basically a shephard's pie, as my waiter told us. It had a layer of ground beef topped with potatoes and a layer of crispy cheese. I can't imagine how that combination could be bad, but it still exceeded my expectations. It was so incredibly rich and flavorful, and I could see myself having that as a comfort food now. my friend ordered a chicken burger and said it was delicious especially with the grilled onions. I will definitely be back to try more of the food- there were so many dishes that sounded amazing. the hostess and waiters were very kind and knowledgeable as well. the location in potrero hill is small but charming and beautiful, and we had an amazing experience for dinner. I'll be back!

Very cute place! The outdoor seating was great - the heaters really did their job well (to the point that I was taking off my outdoor coat). The food was delicious, though a bit expensive. We ordered the veal and the duck confit along with desserts of affogato and the apple tatin crepe. The servers were friendly and made sure that our waters were always filled. Would definitely recommend this place for date night!

Had to update my review since I came and tried new items! I love bringing friends here for an SF taste of French food :) I got the burger as I've been on the hunt for a good burger in Potrero Hill, and this did not disappoint! I did have to add $3 for the Swiss cheese, but the cheese pull made it more than worth it! Every bite was great, the fries were amazing and crispy, and the garlic aioli on the side was the perfect cherry on top! The portion size was also fairly large! The ambiance is very lovely and quaint. I found it very charming! Moreover, the servers were so nice! They even gave my friend a sweetened iced tea in the house. Overall, another 10/10 experience! I would definitely come back to try the other dishes, like the croque monsieur and madame!

    Croque Madame with side salad

I really like Chez Maman East. It's delicious and friendly and fast and pretty unpretentious for San Francisco dining. Also, parking nearby is a breeze in Potrero Hill. The service is friendly and speedy, accommodating and no-nonsense. I ordered a croque madame (only $1 more for the fried egg on top, so worth it) which came with a large side salad. The only thing that could be a bit better is if the salad wasn't doused in so much oil and vinaigrette dressing because it made the salad pretty soggy. But the portion size of both the sandwich and the salad was really generous. To the point that I could only eat half my sandwich! I would have taken it to go, but I was headed to the symphony after and it seemed a bit awkward to leave leftovers in the car for 4 hours, even at night. I could tell this is a local favorite because there were many groups who you could tell lived in the neighborhood, including a group of parent friends with their young children. They got many bowls of the specialty mussels and the kids, aged 5-7 or so, dug in heartily! I was impressed. I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone who wants a tasty meal at a reasonable price point in SF!

    Les Moules Poulette

So good! Came in for brunch for 2 on a Saturday at around 11am. Plenty of outside and inside seating available at this time, we were seated immediately. We ordered the Tomato Omelette and Poulette Moules and Frites to share between the 2 of us. Portion-wise this is a pretty light meal, which was what we wanted. If we were properly hungry the moulettes (no frites) plus 2 more entrees would definitely be the way to go. The standout for us were definitely the moules!! The sauce is so creamy and can stand as a soup by itself. The mussels are clean and well steamed, all open pretty easily. This was really good to eat with a spoon to scoop some soup, mussel, and dunked fries and eat in one bite. Super creamy and fresh, with texture from the fries. Delicious! Next time we'll come back and try the moules with baguette side. I feel like the soup was so good it'd be great to try soaking it up with bread to get more per bite. Definitely would recommend this spot for casual brunch or a cute date!

I can always expect a delicious meal at Chez Maman. This is my first time coming to the east location and it was a beautiful evening so we were able to sit outside. The escargot, Thai mussels and frites, and beef tartare were amazing. Definitely can't go wrong with these dishes. The service was friendly and the food came out pretty quick as well.

It's been a while since I had a good crepe, maybe the last time was when I was in France, and this one brought back those memories. The crepe itself was thin and soft, folded up with warm Nutella and fresh banana inside, topped with walnuts, with a dollop of whipped cream on the side. The walnuts gave it a nice bit of crunch, and the whipped cream added just the right touch of extra sweetness without going overboard. Simple yet good. The fruit cup was a nice balance too, all fresh fruit, nothing out of season. If you're looking for a tasty crepe, check this place out. I'll be curious how their savory ones taste as well.

You can order either from a person at the cash register or at the self-serve kiosk, depending which is first available. My friend ordered at the cash register, and I ordered at the kiosk. She got #45 despite ordering first, and I got #32. I find it so disorienting that the systems don't sync, so the numbers are called out of sequence. After ordering, we found some space to sit on the long communal bench inside. We heard several high and low numbers called, but they were rather unintelligible, and we really had to strain to hear correctly. Finally, my friend's number was called, and a bit later my name instead of number was called. I had ordered both a snack crêpe and a fruit tea, but only the crêpe was ready. I had to go back for the tea later. Maybe I've been too spoiled by crêpes in North Beach and boba in Sunset, but the crêpe I got here was so dry and stiff, it legit tasted like and had the texture of cardboard, and the passionfruit tea had zero passionfruit flavor. The strawberry ice cream and kiwi slices in my crêpe tasted good, but that's the bare minimum and can't really mess those up. Judging by just the crêpe shell and fruit tea, I'd give this place a 1/5. The reasonably ripe kiwi and sweet strawberry ice cream were the only saving grace. My friend said it best, "You get what you pay for." Prices are affordable here, but the quality is super mid.

Half of this salad was just Romaine lettuce, no corn, 1T of black beans, no red onion and red peppers instead. I had to "hunt for the ingredients". I asked for another bowl just for the lettuce alone and it filled up another bowl. Which left me w/the skimpiest of ingredients I have ever seen. Plus the romaine lettuce was in huge chunks incuding the core of the lettuce. There was a tiny side of tortilla strips and I asked for the tortilla on the side, glad I did. The chicken was at least decent and plentiful. For the price it was a total waste of money. Wish I'd taken a picture. And the cashier is really rude.
