    Bucatini pasta

Walked into the restaurant by mistake, thinking it was a different restaurant . I did not have a reservation but they were able to sit me at the bar. The service was great! The food was amazing, i had the wood oven shishito peppers, bucatini pasta, and the white peach sorbet. Everything was delicious .

Delicious pork chop and swordfish. We did not have a single bad dish here and in fact, everything we had was rather excellent. Highly recommend. Reservations needed. Busy for a reason. Quality speaks for itself !

Wow wow wow! This is such a beautiful and delicious spot in the Richmond! Such a neighborhood treasure. Highly recommend coming here for date night, birthday, anniversary or just even a fun girl dinner! Everything we ate was amazing and don't skip on dessert !! I recommend a reservation for Manuel waiting! Service was lovely and gave great recommendations

Loved my first experience at pearl!! The menu options were not overwhelming, the ambiance was cute and cozy with charming decor, the staff was so nice came around right when we needed them. The halibut crudo was amazing!! Every ingredient in that dish was necessary, working altogether. Would recommend the scallops and cauliflower (like everyone else) and a pasta. The only entree we tried was the scallops and that was my favorite bite of the night. Would come back for a special occasion.

Came here for a dinner with friends and sat outside, the patio area on CA was not very cute, they could definitely do a lot more to make it more aesthetic like the inside. Unfortunately we got unlucky that one of the residents next door took their trash out towards the end of our dinner and it smelled horrible! Obviously not the restaurants fault but don't think I'll be dining outside again. As for the food, it was interesting. Very unique flavors so much so that I'm not sure anything was absolutely worth going back for. It was definitely good and different, but wasn't my favorite. The favorites were the bread service, and the steak tartare. The best pasta was the Handerchief pasta, the rest just weren't great. We were all unimpressed with the scallops and the steak. The steak is just not a great cut. Besides that, the service was warm, friendly and great!

Super cute and cozy vibe inside. Definitely a more upscale spot but a nice place for a special occasion. The service was very friendly and prompt. We ordered several small plates and 3 pastas to share between 4 people. I thought all the pastas were just ok -- nothing stood out, though the texture of the handkerchief pasta was great. I just felt like something was missing from each dish (maybe some acidity or sweetness?). The mussels app was pretty good & came with delicious toasted bread. Didn't love the hush puppies though (kind of hard and dry) and very pricey at $6 each. 4 stars for vibes and ambiance and service :)

Love Pearl! Really cute neighborhood spot with good drinks and food. Definitely recommend making a reservation if you can, but you can always grab a seat at the bar. My favorites are the Pearl Martini, Cornmeal Hush Puppies, Halibut Crudo, and Handkerchief Pasta.

Cute little place! If you want indoor seating, make a reservation or wait may take a few hours. Outdoor seating is usually first come first serve. Food was excellent and pricing was reasonable for the portion. Will come back again!

I had a killer dinner here, but it's the kind of thing that has to be rare, based on cost. It was Valentine's Night, and The Wife was out of town. I was in the city nearby and searched for neighborhood restaurants, when I saw Pearl. It was just 5 o'clock, and I thought maybe I could sit at the bar. I was correct, but I had to wait for a space to open. No problem, they had little tables set up outside for those of us waiting, who ordered cocktails. I got a pearl martini, which was decent, but a little sweet. It was my first martini with an onion, and will be my last. I got a standard martini next, which was very good. They called my name, and I sat at the far left end of the bar, with a view into the kitchen, and where all the drinks came out. Plenty of fast but controlled activity to watch. I ordered the crudo for an appetizer, and the scallops for the entree. Absolutely fantastic. The scallops had white beans and some kind of small crunchy flakes, and it was not only a great variety of flavors, but textures as well. I got a side of bread, to mop up all the liquid left over -could t get enough of that taste. Along with this I had a glass of sangiovese, and then a glass of grillo. The bartender (Kim, I think?) had a very nice way of bantering while dealing with the high volume of drinks being ordered. Finally, intended with a Valentine's cheesecake and coffee. A great meal, but I'm not in a position to do this except maybe twice a year for special occasions.

Handkerchief Pasta, Hanger Steak, Spaghetti with Clams

Went during dinner rush hour and service was good and accommodating. With a party of four, we ordered the Handkerchief Pasta ($27), Hanger Steak $34, Spaghetti with Clams ($?). All dishes were great, I think the pricing of pasta may be a tad bit pricey but they're big portions.. so I can't complain too much.. Personally, I would order one pasta dish and share with the table rather than have your own. It's a crazy carb load unless you're an athlete then by all means go for it! The best dish would be the Hanger Steak, great flavor and seasoning.. top notch for sure. They have indoor and outdoor seating. We sat outdoors and the waiter was kind enough to turn on the heater for us. Service is again was good, expect it to be slow during a busy night.

Me and my husband had a great dining experience. The oysters were very fresh and naturally sweet, and beautifully presented. The scallops were generously sized and perfectly cooked, nicely seared on the outside while tender inside. The salad was light and refreshing, and the pistachio tiramisu was absolutely amazing!!! My husband and I both loved it. It's the kind of dessert that makes you go "wow, this is so good" after the first bite. The mussels themselves were flavorful, but the bread served with them was a bit over toasted, almost burnt. The ambiance was warm and cozy, and the service was great. We would definitely come back.

Pearl is a real gem in Richmond. I'm often in the Richmond district and pass Pearl many times. I'd always been curious, considering it's always bustling inside and outside. So, the companion suggested we dine here. We arrived in the early evening. It's a popular spot, so reservations are a must. We sat inside, which was cozy, with dim lights, a warm ambiance, and a lovely neighborhood charm. Lots of friends gathering, but also couples. It can get loud inside, but it's still very quaint. We found the service to be lovely! Our server was so kind, friendly, and had a great vibe. Our food came out extremely fast, and we were checked on throughout our meal. To start, we shared the Chips and Dip. The dip was super creamy, with a rich, savory flavor from the clams. The chips were on the thinner side but not as crispy as I'd like. I found a couple of them a bit soggy. Both my companion and I got pasta; he had the Handkerchief, and I had the Bucatini. I had a bite of his, and it was creamy and tasty! I enjoyed my pasta; it was well-cooked, flavorful with a touch of spice, and a significant portion! We both took ours to go. For those living in Richmond, Pearl is a quintessential watering hole for good food and a good place to gather. Companion and I agreed to come back. Find them on the corner of California Street with residential parking around!

I have passed by this place so many times and it is always busy! So excited that I finally got to check it out for my friend's bday. They were able to accommodate his nut allergy easily. Everything we ordered was amazing! I'm also excited when a place serves oysters with horseradish- it was balanced really nicely with other flavors. You cannot go wrong with their crudo and I devoured their seafood bucatini! The seared scallops were also a hit. I recommend ending the night with their chocolate banana pudding! Definitely a great spot for a special occasion or date night!

Do you have a wine list? What type of wine would you recommend for certain dishes?

Yes they have an extensive wine list. Recommendations can come from the server because it depends on the food ordered...

Is there a charge for cutting an outside cake for a birthday? Or does Pearl have a candle option for house desserts?

Yes, $5 for each slice. And always a candle for any special occasion on dessert when you order it.

Is there no more Sunday brunch?

    No, I wish.

What is the dress code of the place? Would I be turned away if I showed up in jeans?

Can be casual. But it's def a mix which I like.

How is the outdoor seating on a January night? Most evenings recently have been 49 - 53 degrees. Is it too chilly to enjoy dinner in this outdoor space even with coats?

Pearl does a fantastic job with heating. There are plumbed in heaters above the tables against the building and sufficient heaters throughout the outdoor seating. Typically I have to remove my coat, even when it's cool outside.

How much is the corkage fee? Don't see any California wines on Your wine list. Not fond of Italian wines. Since we are in California I would think you would have a few, especially chards and cabs.

Are dogs allowed in your restaurant? I was there for brunch last Sunday and a woman sitting at the counter had a dog on her lap. Thought that was kind of odd.

All service and companion dogs are allowed into any restaurant with proper identification and certifcation.

    Are there gluten free options?

    Yes

    Are there any vegan options?

Yes. The menu may change seasonally, but when I visited I was able to have gnochi entree (sauce may be vegan tomato or mushroom cream - so ck when you make a reservation), cauliflower dish, salad, and dessert.

I also used the fried garlic and peppercorn from the crab as a garnish onto the garlic noodles. It was a proud big back moment for me. We ordered the Crab dinner for 10 for each table, and each dish came out quickly. We enjoyed every dish, especially the crabs. You get 3 crabs (2 butter, and 1 peppercorn). The sea bass was also a standout, with its buttery texture. The garlic noodles are always a favorite. The meal ended with fried bananas and ice cream. It's been over 6 years and a lot has changed in that time…read more A friend hosted a birthday dinner here on a Saturday night for a party of 12. Finding street parking 1.5 blocks away, I walked in and the hostess seated me at a long table to the right of the entrance. I was a little early which gave me time to study the menu. The dining room was mostly full already. When my party arrived, our host ordered several appetizers to share and asked each diner to decide on their own main meal. We tried three small bites as follows: a. Boneless fried chicken, soy garlic (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=KYa0rZOUsOqjeQpdJelYAA) - Korean style crispy boneless chicken; these were as described with a slightly sweet and sticky glaze. b. Popcorn salmon (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=92ZddPT6Qo2TiIur8YOpZA) - Bite size fried salmon with spicy salmon; I did not recognize that this was salmon until the 3rd bite. c. Bulgogi quesadilla (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=ymymJkLHfLRpJgYcbNFUCw) - Quesadilla with bulgogi and cheese; it makes for an interesting combination, again the sweetness from the meat meshing with the rich and savory cheese. I chose the pork plate (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=tYaxEnKifiKWh7TzfzH1rA), spicy; marinated sliced pork savory sauce cooked with veggies and glass noodle on sizzling plate, served with rice (more meat $7.00, brown rice $2.00 supplement charges). I had this with regular rice and the normal portion which was plenty. The flavor was consistent with K style cooking and, being full from a heavy lunch and the apps, I ended up bringing home half of this home, rice included. It seemed that everyone enjoyed their meals and everyone had boxes to bring food home so the portions are generous. In reading my original review, the food again rates 3.5 stars for me but it was interesting to see how the menu changed to include ramen and soups too. The two gals who tended to our big party (not an easy task) were efficient and cordial as they removed empty plates and bowls and refilled water glasses regularly. The dining room filled up by the time we left with a younger crowd. There is an extensive soju menu so that may be a draw too. With the # of restaurants in the Richmond, doubtful that I would return here other than for parties like this. Also, I lean towards more traditional Korean cuisine.
