Came here for a dinner with friends and sat outside, the patio area on CA was not very cute, they could definitely do a lot more to make it more aesthetic like the inside. Unfortunately we got unlucky that one of the residents next door took their trash out towards the end of our dinner and it smelled horrible! Obviously not the restaurants fault but don't think I'll be dining outside again. As for the food, it was interesting. Very unique flavors so much so that I'm not sure anything was absolutely worth going back for. It was definitely good and different, but wasn't my favorite. Personally, I would order one pasta dish and share with the table rather than have your own. It's a crazy carb load unless you're an athlete then by all means go for it! The best dish would be the Hanger Steak, great flavor and seasoning.. top notch for sure. They have indoor and outdoor seating. I had a killer dinner here, but it's the kind of thing that has to be rare, based on cost. It was Valentine's Night, and The Wife was out of town. I was in the city nearby and searched for neighborhood restaurants, when I saw Pearl. It was just 5 o'clock, and I thought maybe I could sit at the bar. I was correct, but I had to wait for a space to open. No problem, they had little tables set up outside for those of us waiting, who ordered cocktails. I got a pearl martini, which was decent, but a little sweet. It was my first martini with an onion, and will be my last. I got a standard martini next, which was very good. They called my name, and I sat at the far left end of the bar, with a view into the kitchen, and where all the drinks came out. Plenty of fast but controlled activity to watch. I ordered the crudo for an appetizer, and the scallops for the entree. Absolutely fantastic. The scallops had white beans and some kind of small crunchy flakes, and it was not only a great variety of flavors, but textures as well. I got a side of bread, to mop up all the liquid left over -could t get enough of that taste. Along with this I had a glass of sangiovese, and then a glass of grillo. The bartender (Kim, I think?) had a very nice way of bantering while dealing with the high volume of drinks being ordered. Finally, intended with a Valentine's cheesecake and coffee. Every dish we ordered was fantastic! You really can't go wrong with any of the pastas, my favorite was the bucatini. From the snack menu we ordered oysters and the bread, from the starters we ordered the Cesar salad, crudo and broccolini. For dessert we tried the olive oil cake and the chocolate torte. What a gem of a place! The soft ambient lights along the building grabbed our attention while in the neighborhood looking for a dinner spot, so glad we stumbled upon it. Greeted by the friendliest staff who were all so nice and smiley and attentive, had to wait half an hour for a table without a reservation but we were able to sit outside and order a drink while we waited and it was a nice night to sit outside and not too long a wait. Got seated inside at a cosy table before we had finished our drinks, and very helpful waiters as we asked questions on what they recommended we try. A good selective menu- we got the acme bread (which came warm!) And the handkerchief pasta and pork chop- which the waiter had all recommended. We had a great Valentine's Day dinner here! Seriously so impressed with how prepared the restaurant was for the holiday rush. Our server, Jake, was awesome - super friendly, attentive, and funny. The team around him was also great, ensuring to check in frequently to refresh our cocktails (*highly recommended the Pearl Martini) and see what we might need. We started with the off-menu special: a truffle arancini with a chili oil base. SO good. My husband and I came in for dinner hoping to check if there were any available tables. We didn't even get a chance to properly enter the restaurant before being stopped. There was no hostess greeting us at the entrance. A manager (or possibly a supervisor) was speaking with another guest or employee -- it wasn't clear. Instead of acknowledging us with a simple "Hello" or "We'll be with you shortly," she put her hand out in front of us and said, "Stand here. You have to stand here," without any greeting or explanation. The tone was unnecessarily rude and dismissive. When the hostess eventually seated us at the bar, I calmly mentioned that the way she had spoken to us felt very rude. Her response was, "If you don't like it, you can go to another restaurant." I dine out frequently and have visited many establishments over the years. This is the first time I've experienced such unprofessional and hostile treatment. In my opinion, anyone working in hospitality -especially in a restaurant that positions itself at a higher level -should treat guests with basic courtesy and respect. They even took 15 minutes just to come back with our check despite the restaurant not being THAT busy by the end. Our water jug was empty for 80% of the night and no one refilled our water despite several servers walking by us and even when they gave us our bill. The hostess was the one who noticed and gave us water even though it wasn't even their job to. Even the korean dessert shop we went to after, where one guy ran the entire service of the cafe, spared the time to ask us how the food was and took the initiative to fill our water despite a full house... My boyfriend and I came here for a birthday dinner, we were looking for something a little nicer and romantic that wouldn't break the bank, and this fit the bill! The space gave off a cozy cafe meets New Orleans, meets Main Street USA vibe, that may sound a little all over the place, but it was great. We started with the gnocco fritto, this sort of bineget dish, and tuna tatiki crisp, then went on to the handkerchief pasta and duck schnitzel. The food was all really delicious! The duck schnitzel is what sold me on coming here in the first place, and it did not disappoint. I love both duck and schnitzel but had never tried them in combined form, but boy did it make for something rich and flavorful. The handkerchief pasta was also a hit, I can see why everyone orders it. To drink we ended up getting two different cocktails each. We tasted a few of the wines, but didn't love any of them, so we were happy to stick with their unique and lower abv cocktails. My favorite of the cocktails I had was surprisingly to me, the pearl martini! I'm not normally into martinis that aren't of the espresso variety, but one of the servers was raving about how good and different it was, so I gave it a try, and I'm glad I did! Even just writing this review a few months later has me wanting to go back for more! The only slight downside to dining here was that there wasn't anything that great about the service. We didn't interact with the same server throughout our meal, and they didn't check in that often either. There also wasn't any acknowledgement of the special occasion we were celebrating even though it was a question when booking the reservation. Not a big deal, but we'd had some pretty great customer service run-ins recently while celebrating special occasions. We made a reservation a week before and there were only openings at 5 and 9 for indoor seating, so good idea to book further ahead if you want a more standard dinner time. read more

We were on our way for sushi then the delicious aromas wafting from this busy corner restaurant drew us in. They kindly accommodated us; we were seated immediately. The service at Pearl is excellent, extraordinarily focused on timing and friendly and knowledgeable repartee. They perfectly timed our courses and brought a glass of Barbera seconds before my bavette steak arrived. The mains were the star of the show (and the dessert!) but the appetizers need work: The roast cauliflower on black tahini hummus with green chermoula ($16) lacked a tempting presentation and became worse when I portioned to our plates in a confused, sticky mess. Black hummus doesn't work as an attractive base and throwing a giant handful of blanched almonds on top seemed a desperate move by the kitchen. The tuna tataki was delicious with an interplay of sweet and spicy: Bits of persimmon and fine slices of Serrano peppers played off each other with the fine lemony note of cilantro but a bit dear at $18 for (6) very thin slices of crudo. The Hankerchief white bolognese had a wonderful flavor. I think I sounded so certain about ordering they didn't describe what ground meat was in the pasta. It had to be chicken- and the dish had panache ($26). Even better was the perfectly executed Bavette of steak in thick, rare slices with a spicy, flavorful green harissa sauce reminiscent of zhoug, an Arabic sauce made from cilantro, jalapeño and cumin. The plate was perfectly balanced by tahini and tender small potatoes with pickled onion and fresh dill ($32). I wished for another slice of steak mostly because it was so delicious. Our server recommended the Meyer lemon pudding cake over the cardamom semifreddo (both $13). Dressed with huckleberry sauce, whipped cream and candied ginger, the cake was delicious, loved the uniqueness of the huckleberries. The menu is small and creative. Absolutely stunning meal!! I cannot recommend enough to friends and family. Service is amazing, the ambience is so comforting and the food is delicious. Would definitely recommend getting their gnocchi! I'm usually not a gnocchi fan, but they've converted me. read more

Walked in on a Friday night for a dinner. Luckily there was a table inside. Got dishes to share family style. Steak tartare was fresh. They gave quite a bit. The potato chip pairing with it was nice. However, I did find that it was a little to salty overall for my liking. Bread was great, warmed and soft on the inside. Perfect for a colder night. Very simple but very tasty. Seared scallops were very balanced. There was enough acidity to pair with the sauce. The sauce was very good, and the scallops were seared perfectly. Spaghetti was okay. It wasn't mind blowing, but overall a solid choice for a carb. Malfadine was the better choice for me. Pasta was al dente, and I just preferred that it was a little heavier than the clam spaghetti. Bavette steak was tender, again nothing very memorable about it, but a good cook on the protein. Duck schnitzel could've been less chewy. The breading was nice and light. The dijonnaise was good, and I loved the picked vegetables. Staff were very nice and accommodating and had helpful recommendations for wine and cocktails. read more
