Location, location. Best part of my new membership is that I can use two clubs, depending on where I am in the suburbs on a given day, as needed. I've used the Transit Rd club several times now. However, I joined at the Amherst club right after the New Year. Couldn't pass up the great rate. They make it affordable. No excuses to work out now! I especially like the group classes, at both clubs. Good instructors for cardio and abs, yoga and Zumba. Motivating me to get to the gym and make exercise part of my routine at least three times a week. No waiting around to use the equipment, they have plenty available. What I also like is the mix of members at both locations - young and old, men/women, cross cultural, folks with a variety of athletic abilities/fitness levels. If it was a gym for "model types" or Barbie dolls, as the name LA Fitness seems to give that connotation, I'd not be in LA by a long shot! Maybe they should call it Buffalo fitness??

Okay, so I've been a member of LA Fitness for a few years now. I like the facilities -- they out-compete all the other gyms in the area simply because they have the best machines, locker rooms, pools, basketball courts out of any other gym in Buffalo. Their corporate policies and enforcement of said policies can be a bit asinine to deal with though. Simply put, my wife is on my account and she is going to be out of the country for the next month. Last time we spoke to a manager to our current location, this wasn't a problem and they simply stopped the billing for a month and then resumed it. This time, when I asked at this location...we were placed on a $10/month reoccurring billing cycle for while she is out of town. The inconsistency + the fact that it's just plain evil to bill you for the gym while you're not here revolts the standards of good customer service inside me, especially when the manager's aren't particularly friendly about things like this. That said, the facilities are fine and I got a good workout in, but LA Fitness as an entity seems to care more about you as a number. Employees who go beyond that are the exception rather than the rule and for that, I give it two stars. For those employees at LA Fitness that care, kudos to you and keep fighting the good fight.

As soon as cold weather hit they cranked up the heat to 1000 just like every other LA fitness. It's unbearable hot.

Full disclosure, I joined this group of studios. I tried them last year and found it too pricy…read more But then as I went around to other places in town, I just kept thinking about this workout format and the way I felt after doing some of the workouts. I did a trial run earlier this summer, and just bit the bullet and joined after that. As a result, Ive been to this studio a number of times recently, I found tis location to be perfect some days. Its much smaller than the Tonawanda location, which is good and bad. Good because there are fewer people in each class, bad because its often full for each class. Ive never been here with more than one instructor, and at Tonawanda's there is almost always 2, if not three but I imagine that has to do with size of class. The format is this - They create 6 workouts (Mon-Sat) which they then do for 4 weeks. Each workout is designed to hit different areas of the body, and some days have more weight and less cardio than others, they mix it up. Each class starts with the same tape to get everyone stretched out and ready for the next 50 min. Then there is a short cardio burst to get the blood flowing, and a longer section with some burpees or squats or whatever they think of. Then you pay attention while the instructor shows you what each exercise of the day is. By week four those demos don't take quite as long, but they still cover them all each day, and show you the various different levels for each exercise. Well trained group of instructors. Then the class starts, usually that portion is between 22-25 min. as you go from exercise to exercise. There may be some sort of 3 min end exercise, they often involve squats Ive found. Then the same cool down tape plays and everyone does that. Class ends as the instructor brings everyone into the middle for a "tip of the day". Sometimes those are super interesting, other times they are so-so. I don't think those are spelled out from corporate, I think they make them up themselves, which could explain why some are better than others. They have improved their website experience by joining mindbody, so that's nice. There is another location coming in Cheektowaga this fall. I look forward to checking that out too. This place is the home of the "6 weeks 20 lbs" challenge, and you'll have challengers in most classes. I cannot stress enough how much support these people get from the instructors and members in their goals. Most hit the goals if they show up to class and follow the diet plan. If you want to come try a class, PM me and Ill see if I can help make that happen.

At first, Emily seemed open to working together, and I spent several days making arrangements, including coordinating orientation & mobility training so I could learn the best walking route to the gym. However, after I provided additional information to help her feel more confident, she abruptly backed out, saying she didn't feel comfortable training me -- despite my reassurances and past history of success in fitness environments. I'm posting this so that others with disabilities are aware that Move Wysely may not be prepared or willing to work with clients requiring any level of adaptation. If you are blind or otherwise require a trainer who is flexible and willing to learn, you may want to consider other options. I was disappointed by how this was handled, especially after not only putting in significant time and effort myself, but also involving my O&M instructor, who researched routes and adjusted her schedule to help me prepare. I hope Move Wysely takes this experience seriously and better prepares in the future to serve all potential clients.
