This is a neighbourhood favourite and is constantly busy, so I'd recommend ordering ahead of time (takes at least 20-30 mins to prepare). The restaurant is located in a plaza right off of the main road with lots of parking. The restaurant just went through renovations and has multiple tables for dine In, although we noticed that most people typically order for take out. One draw back is that they only accept cash, which I always end up forgetting about! Really wish they would take more payment methods, however they do offer online ordering which is a way around it. Went to Esquire yesterday for lunch after some recommendations from co workers and friends. Service was friendly and the location was well kept and clean. Ordered a homeburger and onion rings. Onion rings a bit soggy, due to the take out container. Homeburger was ok, nothing too special. A good spot for Greek food in Scarborough. My family and I decided to try this place out for dinner on a Saturday night. I called ahead and placed an order for 4 Chicken Souvlaki Dinners to save myself some time, but the wait ended up pretty long for takeout on a Saturday night. The staff were so kind and accommodating on the phone when I asked of the chicken could be packed separately. I also appreciated how generous they were with extra salad dressings. The food was pretty good, the chicken was cooked well, and the amount of food was got was great! But the rice, potatoes & garlic bread were all pretty dry. I was hoping that all these items would have a bit more flavour to them, so I was a little disappointed. Honestly Esquire's food is amazing. I got the chicken souvlaki plate, and the flavours of the chicken are spot on, however the bread was little bit hard. The restaurant itself is pretty neat overall. Gyro on pita is delicious - thick multiple cuts of gyro on a pita bread with tomatoes and onions and sauce. Delicious. Come back for this every time. Hamburger was okay. Probably just a normal frozen patty on a burger bun with lettuce, tomatoes, ketchup and mustard. Decent sized burger diameter wise but the patty is decently thin. Probably wouldn't get it again. It's a simple place with ordering and pickup at the counter and ample seating. Cash only. It was late and we were hungry. There were a few diners there when we arrived and a few waiting for their orders but we ordered right away and found a table. We ordered a Pork Souvlaki dinner, Gyros on a pita, and two small Greek salads. THE GOOD. The food was tasty and the portions were on the generous side. The prices are very good for what you get. THE BAD. REALLY BAD. The service here is terribly SLOW! I usually give a business the benefit of the doubt when I read reviews but I see I'm just one of many that have the same complaint. It took around 45 minutes to prepare our order! It was very obvious that we weren't the only ones waiting and getting irritated. It was also very obvious that orders weren't being prepared in the sequence they were received in. A party of four arrived after us, ate, and left before we did. Another gentleman was waiting for his takeout order before we got there and we got our order before he did. He was understandably not happy. Another fellow arrived while we were waiting and got his order fairly quickly. With an open kitchen, we observed no reason for the delay in preparing orders. The staff just had no sense of urgency and didn't seem to care that customers were complaining. CONCLUSION. Esquire represents a good value for Greek food if you don't mind crappy service. Used to be 5 stars but the last few times in the last few months something has changed. The quantity is good and the tazeeki is still amazing. Flavour wise the gyro has changed downwards. Good Greek food can be tricky in this city. Personally, I don't enjoy the restaurants on the danforth. They are always so busy and kinda expensive for no reason. My sister introduced me to Esquire located at Vic Park and the 401, now don't judge a book by it's cover. The place doesn't look the greatest and probably hasn't been renovated ever. I ordered the Gyro Plate and Grilled Chicken Plate. They are so generous with the food here, those 2 plates cost me around $25 (that's pretty cheap). When they told me my order was ready, I was surprised at how big it was. Each Plate came with a separate side salad that comes in a large container, garlic bread and pita bread. Then in another big container, there's rice, potatoes, and whatever meat. PLUS lots of Tzatziki! I was surprised by how good it was. It all worked perfectly together, the rice and potatoes had a lemon sauce that was delicious; the gyro with the Tzatziki was perfect. I really enjoyed my meal and will definitely be back! I was introduced to Esquire by a friend who said they had excellent Greek. My first visit was pre-Covid so it had a very dive feel. The staff weren't extremely friendly but the place was busy. I figured it would be safe to order a chicken souvlaki on a bun and fries. Can't screw that up too hard. It was a good 20 minute wait but the food was excellent. One is the food court type places that have the souvlaki sitting under a heater the whole day which is a total no go for me. The others are the restaurant types which are few and far between outside of Greek town on the Danforth. If you're uptown, they are probably as sparse as they come. Esquire has a burger joint vibe as soon as you walk in. It's not like an Astoria or Pantheon type Greek restaurant you might be used to. As long as they make the food to order, I'm totally fine with it. I came for some take out to bring back home for the family. There was already quite the line when I came in. Sadly, there is no lamb souvlaki here. That is by far my go to order. It's not surprising to see the food court establishments not carry it on their menu, but a restaurant type place not carrying was a little disappointing. I ended up ordering a chicken and 2 pork souvlaki dinners to go. The prices here are pretty good for what you get. You're looking at around $12 for the pork and $14 for the chicken dinners. As far as I know, it's cash only here too. So when orders are made when you order, you know you're going to have to wait a little bit to get your food. It's a concession I'm totally willing to give in most of the time. The problem here is that Esquire is pretty popular among the locals here. Most of the time, there's only one guy doing the cooking. This requires a longer than usual wait time. I think I waited close to 25-30 minutes for my order. They're not actually slow, it's just they are too busy for just one guy to keep up with everything. The food itself was done very well. You get a decent portion for what you pay. I enjoyed the meal completely. It wasn't the best I've ever had, but it will beat any food court place by a mile. Solid greek joint, food was good too, but not mind blowing, old-school atmosphere with lots of random male staff and a grumpy old owner, LOL This isn't the best of the Danforth, but it's much better than Johnny's, if you happen to be in the neighborhood and want a sandwich that's been grilled, or a filling meal. And I agree with another poster, this place is the greasiest greasy-spoon I've ever seen. On the day I visited, it was raining outside, and the greasy floors became super slick, I watched one child and one adult actually slip and fall during a 15 -minute takeout order.
