    Macaroons
    David B.

Visited Essence Bakery on a Friday for a late lunch. We ordered the Quiche, Pot Pie a baguette and two macaroons. The Quiche was good but the side salad had almost no dressing and overall it was a small portion for the price. The same can be said about the pot pie. I would have liked a little more flavor and another piece of chicken or two. The macaroons were the star. Although $4.50 each, it is worth the try. Highly recommend the Meyer Lemon variety. BTW, the lemonade appeared to be right out of the Milo's brand gallon. Expected fresh squeezed for $4.25 a glass. The location is nice but the tables need to be replaced since most of them are damaged. Overall, recommendation is to skip lunch and order just the bakery items. "FIMP" Food is my Passion

Charging $7 for a 12 oz latte with 1 shot of espresso is not worth it. If you want another it's $2. The color of the latte is horrible and it's too sweet. Take your money and go somewhere else. Do better

09/13/2025 Essence makes my favorite macarons in AZ! The taste and texture are unmatched by any other AZ bakery. Ever since they closed down their Tempe location and only have the Arcadia location, I don't go as much. But recently they had my favorite weekend brunch special, so I invited some family to have brunch there with me. The special ($18.95) included: Organic Quinoa Hash with Bacon, Summer Squash & Yukon Gold Potatoes, served with Organic Fried Eggs and Gruyere Cheese Croissant. I love dipping the cheesy croissant into the runny egg yolks! A family member doesn't like cheese, and instead ordered "The Big Breakfast" ($16.25) from the regular breakfast menu - Organic Scrambled Eggs served with Mashed Potato Cake, Breakfast Sausage, Sautéed Mushrooms, and Homemade Buttered Toast with Jam. This dish looked really good too. The espresso macaron had great flavor. My go-to macarons are the organic vanilla and strawberries & cream. Pumpkin (seasonal) is also really good too. Their almond croissant is my favorite, but they were already sold out by the time we got there around 9am! Next time I'll be sure to get there earlier. Tip: If you want to get a weekly email with their specials for the week and weekend, subscribe to their email newsletter. Otherwise, the specials are also on their website.

The bakery items were exceptional. The staff were very helpful. The reason for 4 stars was due to bathroom being down, espresso machine being down and the political atmosphere. The special breakfast croissant was great, but our favorites were the chocolate almond croissant and the oat cakes. We even took a baguette home - fantastic

Always delicious! My friend and I came here for brunch and of course it was a bit busy but we found seats at the counter and our food was ready pretty quickly. The pastries are excellent. I also enjoyed a strawberry macaron.

The breakfast sandwich and passion fruit croissant were good ..... the coffee was "citrusy" and the service was less than spectacular ...... no smiles and less than friendly. 2 1/2 stars

The spinach quiche was very good. So good I wanted more. Serving size is small. I ordered to go. Very nice atmosphere. Cashiers are ok.

Ask the Community - Essence Bakery Cafe

Your pastries are amazing, can you make morning buns?

Do you have pastel color macaroons?

We do, but the production is not regular, it depends on what the kitchen is up to, so the best thing is stop by and see what we have that day. We are open Wednesday through Sunday 6:30am through 2:00 pm.

Is the Indian School location closed for good?

No, we are just closed until March 31st, we are still a bit short on staff, and since the owners are away for family reasons, they decided to give some time off to the staff, one week more or less. Essence will reopen on Thursday March 31st, 6:30am…

    Do they serve alcohol?

Unfortunately, we do not serve alcohol. But the rest is pretty damn good. Have a good one.

Second -- CASH ONLY There is a Hawaiian inspiration/theme at the The OBH mixed with mexican flavors -- basically if you like a lot of meat with your breakfast then come here. When looking at other people's plates the portions looked very large -- the prices are average -- not cheap but not over the top. I did see someone with a cinnamon roll that looked pretty delicious. My mom had been here one other time and got the cinnamon roll pancakes, which she loved (and why we are here today) -- Nothing was speaking to me on the menu so I just ordered the classic OBH pancakes. I would give them about a 5/10 on the pancake scale. Also they didn't have real maple syrup even to purchase for extra -- they say their syrup is a maple syrup blend -- it wasn't full on plastic but it wasn't real maple syrup. I also ordered a side of scrambled eggs with cheddar -- it was a little runny and overall just average. The coffee was rank -- I would give it a 2/10. Our server was very friendly as was all of the other staff -- that is why I hate to only give 3 stars because it is a great local spot. When we left (around 9am) there was quite a long wait -- so you know it is very popular

We spotted this delightful little cafe where we were welcomed warmly and our waitress explained how things worked. I placed our orders at the counter, found my favorite (not so common) energy drink and enjoyed the clean and pleasant surroundings while we waited. The Carne Asada fries were perfect! They tasted great (covered in meat, salsa, avocado, etc.) and it was something sharable to tide us over another few hours. I can easily see myself going back when in the area again.

Not great quality turkey and they used the tomatoes that taste a little too slimy and rubbery (likely prepared well in advance and got gummy sitting for a few hours it's fine but not my favorite) but bacon was well cooked and not too oily. The bread and the toast on it was the best part of the sandwich. Fries that came with it were good and had a little seasoning salt on them. Friendly and relatively fast service. The place has a tv and a bunch of tables, and it looks like it could easily seat 20 people comfortably despite being a very small little shop. If I worked near here, this would probably be somewhere I could go to frequently. But seeing as this was a close option from where we were and had good ratings, it was good, but nothing special that I would make a point to come back for. The menu was relatively large, though, so this should be a solid option if you're on the fence about what you want to eat for breakfast or lunch.

We have stayed here several times before, but this was easily our best experience yet. In fact, this is the only resort in the Valley that we have returned to multiple times, and this stay reminded us why. Our two-queen room was spacious, clean, very comfortable, and a great place to relax for our anniversary getaway. We really appreciated being able to check in early, and they also accommodated us with a late checkout until 2 PM, which allowed us to enjoy the resort a little longer without feeling rushed. A special thank you to Robbie at the front desk, who was outstanding. He was genuinely friendly, welcoming, helpful, and exactly what great customer service should be. He made us feel like valued guests from the moment we arrived and even provided us with complimentary breakfast coupons, which was an unexpected and very appreciated gesture. We also celebrated our anniversary with dinner at Different Pointe of View, which made the stay even more memorable. Between the beautiful resort, wonderful accommodations, spectacular views, excellent dinner, and especially the way the staff treated us, this was a fantastic anniversary getaway. After several stays at Tapatio Cliffs, this one stands out as our favorite. Thank you to Robbie and the entire team for making our 29th anniversary feel so special. We will absolutely be back!

My husband i stayed here for two nights as a staycation for his birthday and we needed it to reset and recharge. we've visited this property in the past and they are always so helpful and it's easy to get around, albeit the hilly parking might make those prone to anxiety a little wary. but overall, this was a great time away from our home. The reason i'm updating my review to three stars is because there is absolutely no enforcement of the 21+ rule at the adult pool. While taking a night swim on our last night, we witnessed two teenagers openly fighting and throwing f bombs at a guest who was trying to ask them to not leave their little sister alone in the pool while they cared more about their stupid tik tok dance. Parents and staff absolutely nowhere to be seen. This happened at 8:30 pm and the guest managed to hold his own against two spoiled brats. Please, Hilton, in order for your adult guests to try and have some peace and quiet away from spoiled brats, ENFORCE THE AGE LIMIT AT THE ADULT POOLS.
