This was seriously the most terribly organized cafe I've ever been to. I was told that I would wait 3-5 minutes for a to go breakfast taco. After placing an order for a bacon, egg and cheese taco, I quickly saw that this was going to be a 30 minute wait. For some reason the kitchen was cooking the eggs/bacon/sausage and then a waitress was walking the HOT skillets all the way down the counter to the end of the salad/sandwich bar (passing the cashiers and baristas) to a guy heating up tortillas on a panini press. Anyone could see this was not just inefficient, but dangerous! I watched four people get the wrong to-go orders and try to help the staff organize the orders correctly. I spoke to a man that had been waiting 30 minutes for to-go French toast (he said it was $9). Finally, we watched a waiter drop a ticket behind the salad/sandwich station (never to be seen again) and had to try to print out the tickets from the last 10 or so orders to figure out which one was lost. Ultimately, I know because of Covid that everyone is short staffed, but there was NO shortage of staff at this restaurant. There were too many disorganized people that obviously had no management helping them at all. I just left. Literally walked away without breakfast that I paid for. read more

Holy moly Greek salad!!! Incredibly fresh ingredients, made from scratch dressing, no meat needed to compliment this salad!!! I'm one of those that will eat only one thing once I have found that ONE thing on a menu!! I often visit for their blended frappe style coffee also. I've never been let down with tasty flavors and pretty presentations. Deserts seem to be their claim to fame! The tres leches always comes home in a togo box to enjoy later! The cookies are huge and tasty, and various other baked goods are all homemade and yummy. This gem is worth the drive down to old Fulshear. read more

I love love love this place! My parents live down the road from Essence House Cafe and every time myself and my guy are in town we request an Essence House visit. I remember when this was just an empty lot across from the movie gallery (now candy shop I believe) and now it's the home of some of the best sandwiches, coffees, teas, and sweets around! My mom, a vegetarian, orders the vegetarian sandwich (the Shoshana or something along that nature) and it is honestly one of the best sandwiches I've ever tasted in my life. I don't know what type of magic dust they're sprinkling on that sandwich, but I could taste every crisp, fresh, vegetable in it. It's amazing and is actually the sandwich that made me want to discover more recipes where I could use red bell peppers because they were such Super Stars within the sandwich. And their cheeses and mushrooms..I could write a sonnet dedicated to those 2 alone. It's so peaceful and relaxing and I wish them the best of business! (did I mentioned that I loved it?) read more

Our go to place in Fulshear. Soups are great and sandwiches are fresh and have unique combinations (my favorite is the country french with turkey, avocado, bacon and Brie ..., yummy!!!) And, you made my husband's day when the all day breakfast was announced ... He loves breakfast for dinner :) I also like the pastries ... My favorites are the almond croissant and chocolate croissant. But skip the cakes ... Not something that I would recommend. Oh, and I should not forget about the breakfast tacos ... To die for with homemade hot sauce. Be careful with the hot sauce ... Sometimes it is extremely hot. They always put the sauce on the side so everyone can add according to your own taste. In "essence" a huge disappointment! We arrived and ordered drinks, the drinks came out at different times, I had to ask for a cup of ice to go with my soft drink. When we were out of coffee, the waiter brought the entire coffee dispenser to our table to fill the cups. How bizarre, how bizarre. We were excited to try this establishment with the reviews about being a gem and for the potatoes. To say the least, this is not a diamond! I ordered the meat trio that was to come with 3 meats, POTATOES and eggs (I asked for the eggs to come with cheese). The eggs arrived without cheese were the texture of a roofing shingles. The potatoes never came. Our meals arrived a different times and by the time everyone had their meals, some were already cold. My niece also ordered a side of potatoes that never came. Due to the lack of timing, we assumed they would be on their way. Although, 20 minutes into the meal, we still did not have either side of potatoes. Upon, requesting the potatoes, it turned into an inquisition where all servers were talking about it but never caring to take care of the situation. I always come here for breakfast. Portions are pretty big and everything tastes fresh. Food presentation is a plus. Staff is friendly. Very busy Sunday mornings but it's worth the wait. Plenty of coffee/smoothie/tea options as well. I haven't tried anything on the breakfast or lunch menu that I didn't enjoy. read more

We love everything about this place except the wait. With all the cyclists in Fulshear on the weekend, it can take a while to be seated. Good things * Coffee - Some of the best espresso drinks I have had in the Houston area. I get their Lattes every weekend. I come from Australia, so it takes a lot to impress me with coffee. * Breakfast tacos - Made right there and cooked fresh, i.e. the ingredients go straight from pan to taco. None of this grabbing handfuls of stuff out of a pan that has been sitting there for hours. They do have trayfulls of pre-cooked bacon though, which is why I order the Chorizo or Sausage tacos. They also have a Double S sandwich which I order with a fried egg and it is the closest thing to a Bacon and Egg roll I have had in this country. * Their baked goods are made right there, the owner said that their Croissants come out of the oven at 6AM, so I am going to wake up early and get some one time. I would not recommend it for dinner, even though they are open. They are a great Breakfast and Lunch place though. If you are looking for dinner, head to Rays, Deckers or Fulshear City Grill (we really are blessed with great food here in Fulshear). read more

Charming cafe in a charming town, worth the drive from Katy. It was busy when my husband and I went for a late-ish breakfast but our server did her best to ensure we were happy. The food was very good and home fries were excellent. They call them sautéed potatoes but whatever they're called they were delicious chunks of fresh seasoned potatoes. This is a very small little cafe with some big tastes! The Saturday morning crowd had the place jumping and for good reason. The food was delicious. My son had the Strawberry Pancakes. I was unable to get a taste out of him but it looked absolutely delicious. I had the Double SS breakfast sandwich and it was very good. However, the dish that really demonstrated how good this place is was my wife's omelet. She did the build your own omelet and you could taste how fresh each of the ingredients were. The food isn't too bad here. The only problem is the service. It absolutely sucks. As it's so small in the cafe itself you're lucky to get a table at the weekend. When you do get one the service is either incredibly slow or incredibly inconsistent. For example, a few weeks back I was there and had to ask 4 times for a spoon to stir my coffee. In the end I had to get up myself and get it. It's a real shame as the foods not bad! I told the manager at the end about the poor service and he didn't seem to be too bothered. The small interior and the poor service precludes me from going there. Looking forward to a better place opening near Cross Creek Ranch sometime soon. read more

I've only popped in and out for their coffee and pastries but as I wait for my items to be packed up, I can't help but eye their omelettes and other breakfast plates. They make all their pastries and they are absolutely delicious! They also sell specialty cakes for special occasions, and you can purchase by the slice as well. I am in passionate love with the Tenderloin Steak Sandwich. The multigrain bread, avocado, and aioli are phenomenal compliments to the seared beef. So so so so good. My other favorite is the Country French sandwich with Oven roasted turkey, creamy Brie cheese, avocado and bacon. Everything works perfectly in this sandwich. The coffee is good in the morning but the breakfast items aren't all that impressive. And I wish there was a better salsa for the tacos. Service could use some work but that's hard to find this far out. Every time I dine in someone hesitantly approaches the table and stares at me wordlessly until I ask for a drink and then i always have to flag someone down for the check. My 5 year old daughter and I went in for breakfast. She had chocolate chip brownies, which came with cool whip and strawberries on top. I ordered two extreme breakfast tacos (you pick three ingredients to go with the eggs). I got churizo, cilantro, and queso fresco. They came with a little cup of sauce that was spicy, but good. I also got some fried potatoes. Everything was delicious. A few things that could be improved: I will try to be nice as our waiter seemed nervous and new. There needs to be a sign stating to set yourself or someone to casually greet you. I had to flag down a waitress and ask if we were to seat ourselves or wait for someone. It seemed very chaotic in there. For only about ten tables there is a ton of staff running around and I think it makes the staff confused as well. I think it could be ran just as well with fewer people there. They were very quick about bringing out food as soon as it was ready, a little too quick as it came out piece by piece. So my tacos came before the pancakes so my daughter was questioning why she wasn't getting her food too. Then my potatoes came out after the pancakes. Also, some prices are high. There are no pancakes on the kids menu so I paid almost $8 for her three pancakes compared to the $3 items on the kids menu. Every item on the kids breakfast menu is eggs. Weird. My frapachino which I admit was huge was $5. Some of the side items you could add to your breakfast were almost $5 as well. Kind of ridiculous. I think this needs more than a 1 $ rating on here. It is kind of misleading. I understand I am getting fresh food from a locally owned place so I don't mind paying more than at McDonalds, but the rating on here needs adjusted to a 2 $ rating in my opinion. read more

Sodas are bottle & not fountain. Can be a little pricey. The $11.00 omlete is big and reasonable for $11.00. However, if you want a waffle with that, it is $8 for the waffle and bacon entree, there is no waffle side. If you want soup with your sandwich, it is $6.50 for a bowl of soup, there is no cup of soup add on. The waffle entree is $8 and comes with a meat, but no eggs. Overall, the food was good. On the personal preference side, there were a few things that weren't to our taste... The waffle was tasty but not crisp, if I wanted a soft waffle I would have bought pancakes. The meat lovers on omelette was a little salty & the bacon in it was crispy to the edge of being burnt. read more

The ham was good though and the eggs were done right. The menu had many options on it for sandwiches too. We went to this place yesterday, it was a great discovery for us. We tried the French toast and the panini sandwich. Flavor is like home made and coffee was delicious. All waitresses were very kind and always checking if we needed anything. We had the chance to talk with the manager and he explained they use natural eggs for the breakfast plates. Excellent place for brunch! My wife had the David's signature - egg whites scrambled with bacon and topped with queso fresco, avocado, and fresh tomatoes. I ordered the Short Pancakes, a short stack of pancakes layered with strawberry purée and topped with whipped cream and sliced strawberries. The David's Signature was served with a side of spicy salsa that was balanced nicely by the cool, creaminess of the avocado. The Short Pancakes were delightfully light and fluffy and the strawberry purée, layered between each pancake played beautifully with the fresh whipped cream and provided a nice touch of sweetness in every bite. The service at Essence Coffeehouse is superb with the servers working beautifully in unison to ensure each patron's needs are seen to immediately.
