Amazing food, fantastic ambience and great service. Thomas took great care of us and made wonderful recommendations! The onion soup was phenomenal. The steak frites and halibut were both fantastic. We were in for the first time and our date night and they gave us a complimentary pour of Saint-Hilaire!

Oh Livingston, how you've captured my heart and soul. My dream since an episode filmed on a little show called "No Reservations" featuring the beloved Anthony Bourdain, aired in 2009 showcasing Livingston, Montana. Not only that, but the historic Murray Hotel and the 2nd Street Bistro. It's been my dream to eat here and I'm pleased to share my experience with you. I had a reservation for one at the bar and luckily got to have the entire bar to myself. I had the pleasure of meeting most of the front-of-house staff and one of the owners. Everyone made it feel like home. The amuse-bouche started off with a tuna poke atop smashed avocado on a crisp. Appetizer round was a beautiful duck egg yolk ravioli with a salad of shaved asparagus and chicharron. The egg yolk burst as I broke in to the ravioli. It was fuckjng divine. The soup was literally the best French onion soup I've ever had. It's hard to nail the salinity of this dish, 2nd Street crushed it. I could drink that shit every day. Entree round, I went with the most amazing skate wing grenobloise. A beautiful piece of skate fish sautéed with lemon, capers and brown butter, served with saffron potatoes and the most beautifully cooked vegetables. Desert rounded off this amazing night with a beautiful piece of French Opera Cake; beautifully layered almond sponge cake with a chocolate ganache and an espresso butter cream. All I can say is wow. This was easily the best fish dish I've ever had.... In a small town in Montana. I fell in love with Livingston. I fell in love with the people here. Most importantly I fell in love with the food. This is my town. These are my people. I need more of this in my life.

Pan seared scallops on a bed of crawfish risotto and sriracha buerre blanc

This is the best restaurant I've been to in the general Yellowstone area, by far (I've been here about a week now for vacation and have eaten out every day). I was wowed by every dish my family ordered. Like most other restaurants I've been to in Montana/Wyoming, the staff were all very friendly and helpful. Our server was very knowledgeable in answering any questions we had, and he consistently refilled our waters as needed. For an appetizer, we ordered pan seared scallops over a bed of crawfish basil risotto and sriracha buerre blanc. We all gobbled it up...the scallops had a great sear and a subtle sweetness; the risotto had a good depth of flavor; and the beurre blanc was perfect for dipping the bread in. I ordered the pan seared Alaskan halibut for my entree, and wow, I cannot remember the last time I had a piece of fish that good. It was extremely fresh (unlike the other fish I've had in the area) and had a well-seared crust on the outside, without the inside getting over cooked. The beurre blanc was a great complement to the fish. The vegetables that came with it were grilled and delicious - I usually don't like zucchini or squash, but I finished it all. I also tried the dishes my family ordered: beef stroganoff, seafood stew, and tuna panzanella salad with a side of truffle fries. Again, everything was amazing. They used homemade pasta for the stroganoff. It had a rustic, yet sophisticated feel to it. Everything in the seafood stew was fresh and flavorful. The truffle fries were addicting and had a good amount of truffle oil in them. Yes, it's pricy, but it's totally worth it. My only regret is that we won't be able to come back here this trip. If I'm ever back in the area, I will 100% come here to eat!

On Wednesday evening we made a last minute decision to stop in for dinner and we are so glad we did. Sat at the bar as we like to do most visits, enjoyed a drink before ordering as we usually do but what came next was above and beyond and I have to share. We ordered our meal, and as my husband sometimes does, he ordered a rib eye and asked it to be cooked " as the chef recommendeds it". He does this all of the time...nothing more comes of it, dinner is served and it works out to be delicious most of the time. This evening there would be a different chain of events that would leave us very impressed. The bartender took it a step further, she decided to actually refer this order to The Chef... He took the time to come out to talk to us. He explained his experience cooking this choice of cut, he made a suggestion, and went into detail explaining the marbling. He offered his recommendation and we agreed. He called it "Pittsburgh Style", It was the best Ribeye we ever had, ( yes I made him share a piece ). I am sad to say we did not aquire this young man's name but we wish to recognize and commend him, not only on the result of the meal, but on his knowledge and dedication. He didn't have to take that extra step, but he did. And to our server/bartender...Kudos!

The ambiance was very nice with a mixture of rustic and classy. We arrived early and planned to have a drink at the bar before our meal. The bartender was.... less than experienced. I ordered one of their signature drinks and even with the recipe book and someone else assisting him he managed to mess it up and forget a key item for it. After realizing it he did promptly bring me the missing component and was very friendly, I just wish it would have been correct to begin with. The staff asked if we wanted to see a menu to plan our dinner while we waited so we took advantage of that. Unfortunately, they gave us incorrect information about the version of the menu that was available to order from. It ended up not being helpful to look and plan early since we couldn't get what we saw ahead of time. Our hostess and waitress on the restaurant side was incredible. She was prompt, friendly, patient, and eager to please. We ordered the sirloin meals with a couple sides each and the Caesar salad for a starter. The salad was phenomenal! It kept us excited for our upcoming meal. The problem was the steak, which is pretty unfortunate at a steakhouse. I ordered medium and my husband ordered medium rare, but even after sending the steaks back twice each they were not correct. His steak was raw still and mine was rare. The server knew there was an issue because when she put the plates down she had us cut into the steaks to check their doneness both times and insisted she bring them back to get them right. She offered to bring new sides out as well so they'd be fresh when we had our properly cooked steaks as well. Again, she was great. She did what she could to remedy the situation. Unfortunately, by the time the steaks came back wrong twice we were not willing to give it another shot. The restaurant was pretty slow since it was a Monday, so I don't understand how the steaks could be sent out the wrong doneness twice. Either someone was new or they didn't care. The waitress went to get the manager for us, but they never came out to talk to us. It seemed like the least they could do to at least talk to us about the experience. Our meal was comped but we tipped the waitress healthily anyway because she really did try to make things right, she just wasn't the cook and couldn't fix the real issue. The experience was pretty lackluster for my birthday meal. It was memorable in the wrong way. I didn't even get a birthday dessert! We had to go to DQ for ice cream to have a birthday treat.

Service is top notch -- always been friendly, attentive, and just the right amount of urgency. Drink and food prep times have been good, during both slow and busy visits. My heavenly, small town, delighted tastebuds heck...the food! We ordered bangers and mash, the corned beef, and the Shepard pie. And we ate it all like we were on death row and it was our last meal! DELICIOUS! The Shepards Pie is something I'll dream about. Hearty and robust, but somehow not heavy. Perfect for a cold winter night or a hot summer day! And don't sleep on the soda bread! It's not only the best I've ever had. Paired with a smear of that lightly salted butter...it's enough to make me grab an employment application and ask if they can pay me in food! Bottom line- slow but sweet service for a REALLY good meal!

The bread arrived stale, the wine selection was surprisingly limited and the wines we tried were of poor quality. I ordered a steak that was served cold--almost as if it had barely been heated. It was completely lacking in flavor and required an excessive amount of salt just to make it edible. To their credit, they offered to remake it, but the second steak was still severely undercooked for what I had requested and had to be sent back again. My husband's dish was equally disappointing and lacked any real flavor. Having lived in France, he commented that this was the worst French dining experience he has ever had. What made the evening even more frustrating was that we had recommended this restaurant to friends and were genuinely embarrassed by the experience. Based on the food quality, service execution, and overall dining experience, we cannot understand how this restaurant has earned such glowing reviews. Unfortunately, this was a complete miss for our group, and we would not return or recommend it to others.
