Estella never fails to impress! Came back again with two vegetarians, one of whom did not like mushrooms. Without even asking I ordered three of the seasonal veg tacos because I knew they'd be great. This was a mistake only because in the dark of the patio I wasn't 100% sure if it was nopales. But they were mad tasty. Every single taco hits the delicious spot in its own unique way. The handmade tortillas are perfection. Honestly you can't go wrong. The carne guisado on the weekends is a special treat if you're a brisket lover. Not to mention the beverage program. The cocktails here are a wonderful blend of perfectly crafted classics and creative takes on old time favorites. Every time we eat here I ask my partner why we don't come more. read more

Went to Estella yesterday and I would say it's pretty good. The only thing I didn't like was the chips and salsa with guacamole. The chips were stale, salsa was ok, and guacamole was pretty flavorless. I love chips and salsa and these ones just weren't good. We got the carnitas, the veggie, pastor, and vampiro and elote and it was all amazing. The red salsa they have is next level. Chipotle and good on everything!!! The green on the brisket and veggie has a kick but was equally delish. That food was just so darn delicious and I would totally go back! For that reason. Now for my 4 stars... we sat at the bar. the service started out strong. But then puttered out along the way. Thankfully maybe the manager, a female, noticed and asked if we were all good. And we definitely needed some water. She was quick and still 5 stars. Now the decline... post meal we sat for about 15-20 minutes completely finished with plates and napkins stacked. 3 people came up to my right and were addressed immediately looking for their tabs to close out. Finally we were noticed again by the lady and not one of the bartenders. She checked us out and got us a box. So 5 stars for her. 4 stars otherwise service wise. I would say overall a good experience. First off, it's in the 'the Jesse' and the entrance is around back. It was somewhat difficult to figure that out and I could see people through the window also struggling to find their way to the door. Some signage would be helpful. Bartenders were knowledgeable and friendly, mezcal/tequila selection is great. Food came out pretty quick. The green salsa with the chips was really good, red one needed maybe a touch of salt? Bean dip was pretty good but again maybe needed a pinch of salt. Loved the homemade tortillas Chicken taco was yummy Al pastor was honestly very tough. I'm used to them slicing it up a little smaller than the large tough chunks that came out. Chicken enchilada was probably the best flavor wise, it was non traditional and looked more like a large taco but still good. Again with the large chunks of meat though. Overall, a bit overpriced for the food flavors. But I loved the bar ambience and the cocktails. One big downside that is out of their control is that the neighborhood at night is sketch. We came here a little after 3pm. We initially could not find the entrance and decided to go into The Jesse which is also a place we wanted to check out. We discovered the only direct entrance to this place from The Jesse or the shared parking lot on 4th street to the shared outdoor seating area. We came from The Jesse after having a drink there. We walked in and saw the menu right away with the kitchen area right in front of us. It was not busy and we were the only customers. They have about 10 to 12 indoor seats. It is a very small area with what appears to be just counter seating and no tables. We reviewed the menu, placed our orders and had a seat. My wife grabbed two small bowls of each of their salsas for our tortilla chips that we ordered. My wife ordered two of the shrimp tacos and I ordered two of the short rib tacos. The tortilla chips arrived first and we were both very impressed with the salsas. The green is a little hotter but the red was my favorite. It was a little smokey and tasted amazing. We enjoyed both of them. We watched as the chef's quickly prepared our tacos with all the yummy ingredients. They presented them to us on a shared platter and they looked beautiful and delicious. We both enjoyed them - each bite was incredible. We learned from talking with the staff that you can order and eat in The Jesse or vice versa. They do have a bar area but the offerings are different than at The Jesse. We will come back when the weather is nice and sit outside on the patio - check it out! read more

If you're visiting Reno then you must come. If you live in Reno and you hadn't been to Estella Tacos Y Mezcal yet then I am disappointed and judging you at the same time. I learned about Estella after doing a little bit of research prior to my visit to Reno. It was recommended online, highly rated on Yelp, and I had a co-worker tell me to definitely try. Of course, I came on Taco Tuesday. I believe one must try a fun place that has high reviews while traveling. Especially when you're away from home you shouldn't short change yourself with what you put in your body. I knew before coming what I wanted. However, one of the three tacos (Brisket/ Carne Guisada Taco) on the menu that I wanted to try was only offered Friday& Saturday. I went to Estella thinking I wouldn't get the meat taco of my preference so I asked what to get from the staff so they mentioned the fish, pork, and chicken tacos. I made a comment about how I really wish I could get the Carne Guisadda Taco and the cashier said I was in luck. They apparently didn't sell out the previous weekend which meant I could get it. Below is the order of how I would rate them with comments. Carne Guisada Taco.... - is made of braised brisket, pickled nopales, spicy aioli, and house crispies. (Normally offered only on Friday & Saturday) - I know brisket especially since I am born and raised KC where brisket is an essential meat used for bbq. The brisket in the taco was melt in your mouth tender but still held together without being mushy. Flavor of meat and toppings were complimentary of each other ingredients inside this homey but unique staple menu item. Seasonal Vegetarian Taco... - is made of locally sourced ingredients from Northern Nevada Farms. The seasonal vegetarian taco offered when I visited in mid-September '22 was the 3 Sisters Taco which had Summer Squash, Pinto Beans, and a Tequila Corn Salsa - I love indulging in food where there's no guilt but there is abundance amount of flavor, sinful blend of healthy ingredients, and no need to doctor your food with extras (I.e. salsa, guacamole, lime, Tajin, hot sauce, or jalapeños).Estella's seasonal vegetarian taco was perfect since it was technically hot like summer with the hint of fall in the air. All the ingredients (listed above) made each bite moan with excitement for the next bite then disappointed for the last bite. Smoked Oyster Mushroom Taco - ... is made locally sourced oyster mushrooms, oxacan green mole, cojita house crispies, and herbs. - I'm not gonna hide the fact, I'm a fungus lover of the mushroom. The Smoked Oyster Mushroom taco may be on the bottom of my list of tacos from Estella. However, there wasn't a need to doctor up / enhance the flavors with hot sauce, cilantro, lime, jalapeños, or etc. I'm not ashamed to ask for condiments when I feel that flavor is missing. I know this next part is not necessary but I'd like to describe the tortilla. Each taco was served on a corn tortilla, the size of a small dinner plate. I'd assume that the tortillas were either made in-house or locally since they tasted fresh. Each tortilla was able to hold all the toppings with its ability to soak flavor from the food without making it soggy. No one truly enjoys a soggy bottom especially when it comes to food that's supposed to be held with your hands. When I try places and go somewhere new, it's usually one and done scenario even if it's really good. However, I am quite confident the next time I make a visit to Reno and I'll be grabbing a bite from Estella Tacos. It's one of the few places in my list of must eats and the only place that worth a repeat trip for me in Reno. read more

I've only been able to try them once and have tried multiple times to come back but they are only open for dinner and there's only outdoor seating so that doesn't really work when it's not summer. In a conversation with a friend not too long ago, I made the statement, We do not need another taqueria in Reno/Sparks. Well, folks, I have to admit I will eat those words with a smile and a taco from Estella's in hand. That is what we need more of in our area: creative, yet authentic cuisine. Chef Will Shepp ard is taking Estella's to this level with his culinary creations of "down Home" tacos. I wanted to try Estella's out and had the chance to do so last night. We had to squeeze into the Kitchen area where there is counter space on the walls and by the kitchen area. Considering that last night was a super busy night. They had 3 dining areas that were at capacity with 2 large parties in attendance. I believe that the kitchen staff was overwhelmed with the number of diners ordering at the same time. We were with 2 friends who are vegan and they were able to order from the vegetarian tacos available with the kitchen making the adjustments to ensure their tacos were vegan. I had a shrimp tostada, very savory, the tortilla was too soft, not crispy, a quesadilla (rule 1 in Mexican cuisine, tortillas should always be served warm/hot). The street corn was a great addition, served and dressed with popular condiments (but cold). We also had a flight of salsas with some of the best salsas I have had in quite a while, but for the price and to be honest, if you like salsa, it was enough for one person. This is the first time, I have never had salsa on my plate or on the table as this is a standard condiment in all Mexican restaurants. On a not-so-busy night at Estella's, I hope that the food prep will be up to standard. Estella's is a much-needed restaurant in96f23023-6cb9-4bbb-b8c6-fffbb416a102 our area. Try it out. Piper Stremmel, owner of The Jesse and Estella, had dreamed of opening a concept like this for more than 10 years. Inspired by her own lodging experiences abroad, Stremmel stated that the quality of her accommodations had the greatest impact on how she experienced a destination, so she set out to create a boutique hotel that could serve as the ideal jumping off point for an "authentic Nevada experience", and naturally that hotel needed a culinary experience to go along with it. The tacos are good size for the $4+ price tag, and two with chips and salsa can definitely satisfy a fierce hunger. You're really paying for the artistry that goes into these though. Handmade tortillas, house made marinades, and lots of technique, add up to an elevated taco experience. I've found the vegetarian offerings are actually my favorite on the menu. The smoked mushroom taco and the seasonal veggie offering (last time was beautiful roasted carrots) are incredibly substantial and wonderfully complex. I've also loved the seasonal salad as well, though I wish that was a bit larger for the price point. So why 4 stars? As a new biz, they're figuring things out really fast. My experiences have been a bit inconsistent, but I've shared direct feedback each time and I know they absolutely take it to heart and it will end up moving Estella to a 5 star rating for me in the future. The tacos here are most excellent. They make everything from scratch and use seasonal ingredients. Each taco is "street size" but is generously filled. The ingredients are fresh and well balanced. Each taco was phenomenal, but my personal favorite was the short rib with pumpkin a very close second. I cannot wait to go back and try more of their seasonal and regular menu tacos. We also had the chips and salsa, you get a choice or a dark red or green salsa to go with light, crispy chips. Bursting at the brim with people drinking and enjoying themselves in this courtyard between the Jesse and Estella. It was a sunny day and a bit warm for our taste so we decided to just sit at the bar after ordering our food and drinks. We decided to just order up each taco they offered at the time. 6 different ones. Two vegetarian choices, Fish Taco, Al Pastor, Carne Asada, and Carnitas, Some chips and bean dip. I also ordered up the Michelada and my wife ordered a glass of red wine. We scooted over and found a spot at the counter, hoping to get a little view of the process. The view didn't reach that far into the open kitchen though. We did enjoy the light coming in from the windows and watching the people walk by and try to steal a peek inside. The openness of the space is a welcome change to many of the smaller places in town. Too many new places find themselves in cramped and dark/dank feeling spaces. The inside of Estella has all the smoothness and cool lines of any of your best high-end modern eating establishments. The food didn't take very long to come out. Just long enough for me to wash up in the gender-neutral restrooms and get back inside just as they landed They were all really good. The weakest link that night might have been Carne Asada. The most fantastic was the vegetarian with some sort of carrot in it. The chips and bean dip were great and very snackable. The drinks came a little after the food. Not sure if they were just swamped or what, but this was definitely the best Michelada I have ever had. Perfect mix of beer and tomato. Light and refreshing and not too salty. I really like Estella! Like REALLY like it. My first visit I sat at the indoor counter and watched the chef prepare my tacos. My second visit I sat outside in the beautiful courtyard and enjoyed my meal. Some important things to know about this restaurant: 1) it's located behind the Jesse hotel so you won't see it from the street 2) it's tiny inside but there's plenty of beautiful shady outdoor seating 3) the menu is very limited but creative 4) you order at the counter, fast casual style and 5) the cocktails are incredible! As for the food, the chef is from the Bay Area and he makes amazing food. The corn tortilla shells are all fresh pressed and cooked to order, the meats are amazing, the veggie tacos are excellent, and the salsas are super fresh. This place is great!! I forgot to take pictures of the food which is a bummer. We had Fish, Carnitas and Mushroom tacos all were really good! We also had a Quesadilla and Shrimp Tostada! Service was great even if it's a counter service style they hustle! We ate inside the Jesse which is a cool old building in Reno... good and bad is the show that happens outside the windows. The outdoor seating is very cute, plants everywhere and comfortable seating. When it got colder, they brought out blankets, which I appreciated. All of the staff was very friendly and helpful with recommendations. They have a Happy Hour from 4-6 I believe, where margaritas are $7. I will say this place is not super cheap - a single taco costs ~6-7$ and if you're a big eater this will add up. The guacamole is full of lime flavor & delicious, but also not the biggest portion (although it comes with salsas as well). However, everything is made fresh and very delicious. Best. Tortilla. Ever! Honestly, I don't think I ever had such a soft and fluffy corn tortilla. Ever! These are street tacos size but they are definitely filling. I had 3 tacos and those filled me up. We also order a salsa flight and that was fun. According to the server, they rotate out the salsa for the flight so you never know what you're going to get. All of the 3 that we got, the heat level were all different. My favorite was the mango salsa. My husband and I wanted to check out this place because it had such great reviews and looked like it would be good...I don't know who is writing the highly rated reviews for this place. It is $6 per taco which is outrageous as these are street tacos. Our tacos were good but not for the pricing. We had cocktails and they were not great. The "homemade chips" were literally just Tostitos or some other bagged chips. The service was not super great, when we were ordering it almost seemed like it was a burden for the bartenders and we had to ask them to explain the ordering as they did not offer up any assistance. Finger licking good tacos! $5.50 is pricey for one taco but for the homemade tortillas and juicy meats, it makes it worth it. This location was previously Lincoln lounge and I've always loved the patio area, great ambiance. We came here on a Saturday night with some family. There isn't a ton of parking in the area but thankfully, Estella and the Jesse share a parking lot. This was our first time here, you don't need to wait to be seated and a waiter doesn't come to you when you find a seat, you have to order inside then they bring the food to you. The Pastor, chicken, and carne guisada tacos were amazing. Highly recommended. Walked in after reservations at another restaurant didn't go as planned, and my wife and I were glad we did. The passion fruit and 50/50 margaritas were very tasty as well. They complement the tacos perfectly. The tostadas were well done too!
