This place is just what I was hoping for and more! I have to say a lot of Mexican restaurants out there tend to have a cool atmosphere but mediocre food. Dahlia's has it all! Love the painted walls and cozy feel of the place. My only complaint is I would change the lightning- instead of the overhead ceiling lights, lamps over the tables or string lights would make for more ambiance. The nachos and the Guadalajara tacos (steak and chorizo) were both phenomenal with distinct flavors and textures! (I'm pretty picky about nachos so this was a big win!) The jalapeño cucumber margarita was perfect too- just the right amount of spice and refreshing! The servers and chefs were all super sweet and on top of it. We were on our way him from GSR and yelp lead us here for authentic food. The parking lot has plenty of space and there is outdoor seating. They were welcoming but seemed a little distant. Took a moment for waters and when asked for chip were told we need to order with the server which led us to believe chips were not complementary but then a random plate of chips ended up at the table. We were just confused but went along with it. They do bring out complementary mulitas as their appetizers which is probably why no chips are offered as a complimentary starters, That makes sense. The food is AMAZING. The kids devoured their food within mins and even my 2 year old ate all the rice off my plate. The rice was so flavorful and tender. Good portions and yummy flavor. We recently discovered this restaurant during our 4th of July trip to Reno, and it quickly became a favorite! The place isn't very big, but the friendly service definitely makes up for it. We've already been twice in the past month. We love their complimentary appetizers. We've had molletes and, on our last visit, gorditas with crema and cheese. My husband loved the chilaquiles and said they were amazing. I had the tacos de birria, and they did not disappoint! The food was really good. La parrillada was great. Definitely feeds 2 people like it says. They don't skimp on the meat at all. There was more than enough, for sure! Rice and beans were good too but I feel like the bean portion was a little small. Could have been a little bigger if you're sharing it between 2 people. The grilled cheese was great too. My kid loved it. He was impressed with the cheese pull. The sodas are all served in bottles which is cool but it'd also be nice to have the option of fountain. The bottles get a little pricey. Our waitress was nice but I had asked for water twice and never got it. I had to ask someone else for it. They gave us a free appetizer which looked like thick tortillas with crema and queso fresco and also a free slice of pan dulce/cake after our meal. They were both a nice surprise. Celebrated Cinco de Mayo at Dahlia's and I can easily say this is one of the very best Mexican restaurants in Reno. First I'll say that while the place was massively busy, the staff and service was absolutely outstanding, hardworking, and kind. The decorations were festive and the live music was stellar. The chips and salsa came and they were both absolutely made in-house, the chips were perfectly fresh and crispy and the salsa was the perfect balance of savory with just a perfect touch of spice. I had an alpastor burrito and we ordered some chicken and carne asada tacos with beans and rice; all of it was amazing, perfectly cooked and seasoned, and absolutely delicious, the portions were very generous and the value from the menu was terrific. Food came out hot hot hot... I appreciate that.. the flavors of our food are traditional and authentic. My cafe de olla gave me flashbacks to my parents house back in Mexico. I ordered the combo of 2 Al Pastor Tacos and 2 Shrimp Tacos. I was a big fan of the shrimp tacos so I think anything you order there with shrimp will be good. Their Al pastor tacos were good but not my style, I don't think I would order again. The Spanish rice was some of the best I have had, but the refried beans were just okay (again for my preference). Always been a Mexican restaurant but recently underwent a revitalization under new ownership, bringing a fresh look to the interior and some updates to the menu. Upon arrival, we were seated immediately. The two female servers were incredibly welcoming and attentive; however, the experience was slightly dampened by another male staff member who seemed indifferent to the guests, dropping off plates without a single word. The atmosphere itself is a highlight--the open-kitchen concept allows you to watch the chef's cook firsthand, and the aroma filling the dining room is absolutely great and get dishes hot as they come out. While my Chicken Fajitas were excellent, my wife's experience was disappointing. She ordered the Tex-Mex Chilaquiles (subbing carne for chicken), but the dish arrived without eggs which is a core component of the dish. Because service was sparse, she ended up sharing my meal while her dish sat untouched tended useless but ate the chicken that was on the side and the handful of chips with red/green sauce. When we finally flagged someone down, they offered to add eggs to the now-cold plate. We were in a rush and declined, asking for a discount instead. The staff then suggested packing it "to go" and adding the eggs then--which any fan of Chilaquiles knows would result in a soggy, unappetizing mess. Ultimately, after a long wait for the check, and asking multiple times they only deducted $3.00 from a $23.00 entree. While the food quality has potential, the service recovery was lacking. Pro tip: Inspect your plate the moment it hits the table and flag someone immediately if it's wrong or something is missing to avoid this issue. This Mexican restaurant was just okay overall. One of the biggest issues was how hot it was inside. There's no separate kitchen in the back, so all of the cooking is done in the dining area where customers can see it. As a result, everyone including myself was sweating throughout the meal and made it very uncomfortable that you couldn't wait to get out of the building. The handmade tortillas were definitely a highlight and tasted great. We ordered the chicken chimichanga, chicken burrito, beef enchiladas, and street tacos. Most of the food was decent, but the chile relleno was disappointing, it was overly greasy and lacked flavor. The refried beans were served in a very small portion and were noticeably watery. The Spanish rice was small, overly soft, and had a watery texture. Unfortunately, both sides lacked flavor and didn't add much to the meal. The agua fresca was served in a tall, narrow pottery container that was packed with ice, leaving very little actual drink. The restaurant itself is small, and while the servers were friendly and attentive, the food was average and nothing really stood out. I rate Dahlias and solid 3.5 stars but they don't allow half stars. There is plenty of parking and the ambiance is nice. I'm not sure how long this place has been open but it seems to be on the newer side as opposed to a hole-in-the wall. I will say they could use better ventilation. As soon as you enter you get that wave of grill smoke and grease smell because they run an open kitchen. I got the fish taco combo and it was pretty good as fish tacos go. The high points were that the fish was grilled and the proportions were generous. Things that could improve include the amount of cabbage should be reduced and the tortilla was a bit thick. There was so much cabbage that it was drowning out the delicate taste of the fish. Overall the taco lacked a bit of flavor. It really needed some chipotle baja sauce or some crema based accent. It came with rice and beans that were pretty standard. I gave a demerit for not having complimentary chips but erased that when i got a complimentary slice of cake at the end. The cost was pretty standard for a combo dish like this. Overall i will return to try some other entrees with hopes that other priteins will have a bit more zip. read more

Very disappointing experience due to poor customer service. I have been to Dahliah Mexican Restaurant many times with my friend because we genuinely wanted to support their business. Unfortunately, after this most recent visit, I left extremely disappointed. My husband and I visited the restaurant the day after going through the Hawk Fire. We simply wanted to sit down, have a quick meal, and enjoy a little normalcy. Instead, the service from Lizabeth and another waitress managing that night was extremely poor. They paid very little attention to our table. We were given water, but it took a long time to receive proper service. We also asked twice for the complimentary Gordita's that are normally provided, and they were never brought to us. I see them being brought out to other tables and also that to go boxes because I was facing directly looking at the kitchen section. And they completely just ignored us and never gave us the Gorditas. What made the experience even more uncomfortable was the way we felt we were being treated. We were the only Asian customers there, and the lack of attention from these two servers made us feel as though our cultural background may have played a role in how we were treated. I cannot say what was in their minds, but as a customer, that is how the experience felt. My husband eventually started noticing the same things I was noticing--the difference in attention and service around us. When your spouse independently starts recognizing that something feels different about the way you are being treated, it becomes difficult to dismiss that feeling. This wasn't about expecting special treatment. It was about basic respect, attentiveness, and equal customer service. We should not have to wonder whether we are being treated differently because of our cultural background or because we look different from the other customers in the restaurant. What made the situation even more frustrating is that I did not immediately leave a negative review. I called the restaurant and spoke with Carlos, explained exactly what happened, and gave management an opportunity to address the situation. I never received a call back from the owner. I then sent an email with my complaint and, again, received no response. That lack of follow-up was extremely disappointing. Mistakes happen, and I understand that restaurants can get busy. But ignoring a customer's legitimate concerns after they take the time to contact you directly and give you an opportunity to make things right is unacceptable. We were willing to continue supporting Dahliah, but customer service matters. Everyone who walks through your doors deserves to feel welcomed, respected, and treated equally. After being repeat customers and making an effort to support this business, this experience has unfortunately changed my perception of the restaurant. I hope management takes this review seriously and reflects on how customers from different cultural backgrounds are being treated. At this point, I cannot recommend Dahliah based on our experience. read more

But there is one problem that I wish I could take time back and personally address the issue and confront the waiter. My table noticed a female waitress mistreating the cooks, what I mean by mistreating is, clearly in front of customers she was rude, demanding and clearly unhappy. Her body language was disgusting tapping the kitchen bar table demanding the cooks to hurry up and give her items. (No please, no thank you) just a grumpy attitude, mean mugging them while they clearly are trying their best. Props for them for keeping it cool and continuing to do their job. We really tried to give them two chances. The first was on Father's Day. No fault of theirs that the line to get in was huge. But they made no attempt to organize it and just ignored everyone. The final straw was when they let their friends from the back of the line take a table outside and cut the rest of us off that were waiting for a table. We tried to go back again this week and the place was a thousand degrees and I swear they forgot to put alcohol in our margaritas. I started with the Dahlias margarita. They look expensive but they are huge...think double sized. Tasty but super sweet. I probably would go classic next time! I went with Chile Verde and my wife ordered the tostada combo with shrimp. The portions are large and well flavored. Even the rice and beans served on the side carried a lot of character rather than the usual filler nature of those sides. We both were members of the clean plate club. The servers are all fantastic, working as a team to make sure everyone is getting what they need, They were friendly and efficient, especially important on a busy Saturday.
