    California cheeseburger
    Rachel G.

After visiting a few times in my childhood and a few times more recently, I think 3-stars is fair (and probably a little generous) for Esther's. When you step inside, you'll immediately be transported back to the late 80s/early 90s: the place looks old (because it is). I can't imagine it's seen a renovation or upgrade in the last 15 years. The service is usually quick, but it's hit or miss on friendliness and attentiveness from the staff. During today's visit, folks who were seat after my table were served before we were, but our waitress was nice enough. During a breakfast visit a few weeks back, the waitress seemed annoyed to have to serve my party. Everyone can have bad days... but it doesn't leave a great impression to feel like an imposition as a customer. My experience with the food, overall, has been unimpressive. As a kid, I remember the food being tasty and home-style. As an adult, the options are mediocre, the flavor is mid to subpar, and the prices exceed the quality you get. While my California cheeseburger (a frozen patty and slice of white American on a limp bun with a few leafs of lettuce, one slice of dried out green pepper, a few rings on white onion, and two thin slices of pale tomatoes) with fries was fine, one member of my party ordered a steak sandwich and basically got a sloppy joe that he wasn't impressed with. Another member ordered a cordon bleu wrap; she said it was disappointing. (Despite being grilled/pressed, it was so wet.) A few weeks back, I had breakfast here--eggs, potatoes, toast--and it was fine, but essentially nothing better than what one could make at home. Overall, if someone invited me here, I'd go with them. But I wouldn't choose to return to Esther's on my own simply because the food quality is below what I want from a restaurant experience

Loved this place! Great coffee and nice waitresses. Really cheap egg dishes. Loved my omelette and the sausage links weren't salty thanks goodness. Crispy bacon and potato patty like at McDonald's! Will be back...

Food was amazing. Esther herself personally blessed us with this deliciousness. Service was great. Highly recommend lemon packet.

Reasonable priced old school diner. I had 3 eggs hash browns toast and coffee was like $10 good deal and tasted just fine!

Acceptable diner food. The service is fine. The interior could use a refresh. Quick food. I recommend sticking with the breakfast.

The menu hasn't been overcomplicated or reinvented, and that's honestly part of the charm. If you've been coming here for years, it still feels like the Eagle. We came with a group of eight, ordered food and drinks across the table, and everything came out impressively fast. Drinks were quick, food followed right behind, and nothing felt rushed or sloppy. The wings are a standout. They still do wing nights, and you can tell they take them seriously. They use Bell & Evans wings, which are locally sourced and it shows in the quality. We had the sweet heat bone-in wings, which were perfectly cooked with great flavor, and Thee FEHO boneless wings, which were also excellent. We also ordered the flying eagle fries hand-cut fries topped with cheese, bacon, and barbecue sauce. Comfort food done right. You can choose from hand-cut, curly, or extra crispy fries, which is always appreciated. The space itself is small but comfortable classic small town bar vibes with exposed brick, a cozy dining room in the back, and a relaxed bar area up front. It's not fancy, and it's not trying to be. It's just a good place to hang out, have a few drinks, eat solid food, and actually enjoy yourself. Overall, this is a dependable, low key spot with good food, fast service, and a welcoming atmosphere. We've been here many times before and will absolutely keep coming back. It's a staple for a reason.

My grandpa is one of them. Our server is usually Dee, and she is always incredibly friendly, attentive, and FAST. Honestly, that's one of the things that always impresses me here the food comes out ridiculously quickly even when they're busy. My breakfast go to is half a "honky" eggs, potatoes, peppers and onions all mixed together with cheese on top, plus toast. Nothing overly fancy or trying too hard. Just really good, filling diner breakfast. And the prices are almost unheard of anymore. My grandpa and I can still get breakfast for under $20 for both of us. But everybody talks about Heisey's for breakfast, and I'm here to tell you: don't sleep on dinner. Their fried fish is one of my absolute favorites. It's MASSIVE and so good. The restaurant itself is bigger than it looks, too. There's the main diner, additional dining areas and banquet space, plus a bar around the back all connected. There's a reason Heisey's has been a local staple for so long. We'll keep coming back.

So, we (my hubby & I) l decided to give it a shot as we were passing through PA on our way to home (NJ). The welcome was a friendly one, & yes you ordered at the counter but I've been to numerous places that do the same - no biggie. I ordered the (kiddie) chicken strips & fries because I wasn't that hungry, my hubby ordered the cheeseburger. The chicken was very tasty! As was my husbands burger - the burgers are fresh - never frozen and according to my hubby, the taste vouched for it. The fries were delicious too, & hand cut! The prices were very reasonable and did I mention - the two owners (Ami & T) waited on & served us and were super friendly! The restaurant will celebrate one year on November 13th. Give them a try & a good review, I don't think you'll be sorry!

The French toast is completely tasteless yet was topped with blueberries / strawberries / bananas and some caramel / Hershey syrup. Let me add the bananas were slightly brown, and the strawberries and blueberries weren't berries at all, it was pie filling poured over my food that was supposed to be warm yet was cold as ice. 16$ for something you could get from ihop for 10$ is insane.

I theorize that this happens because people who have a complaint will post a negative yelp review, but people who have a positive experience get back in the car after their meal and forget about it. That's certainly what I usually do, and it's really not fair to the eating establishments. We only stopped at this place because we didn't like the look of another place we had chosen to eat. But when we went inside, it was clean and attractive. There was no line; our order was taken quickly, the meal was served fast, and made well. What made this place stand out to me was that when a family member attempted to order something as part of a combo meal that wasn't an option, I "corrected" her but then the alert restaurant staff jumped in to explain how it actually could be combined for minimal extra cost. It was something that I'm pretty sure couldn't be done at a typical BK, but this young staffer was competent, alert and pro-active in offering the help. The same staff person was especially polite when I later picked up the food. And everything was there on the tray that we could have possibly wanted -- every sauce, every condiment. It was just great in every way. If you're rolling through this town and need to pull off for a quick bite, I'd recommend stopping here.
