Well, I wish I stepped into this establish a lot sooner than when I did. I went for a walk last Wednesday evening and decided to stop into etta for a solo dinner at the bar. I was greeted right away by the host staff and asked to direct me to the bar. They let me know they have two bars: one downstairs, one upstairs. I decided to make my way to the second floor. The bartender that took care of me was very attentive and friendly. I enjoyed the Sangr-etta and a glass of Pinot noir along with the Bolognese! Everything was delicious and I enjoyed the modern yet rustic ambiance. Unfortunately moving out of the city this week. But I'll be sure to tell all my Chicago friends to stop in for a fabulous meal and great service. read more

Every weekend you will find me brunchin' and Etta was definitely a good choice for Sunday brunch. It's a staple of eating. The food never disappoints and the drinks are simple and good - there is nothing frilly and that's why I like it. You can either sit in the main level and watch the kitchen make your meal, while chatting with friends and/or loved ones. You can also get a good group and possibly sit on the upper level and just enjoy the company. Service is always exceptional; there have never been instances where I have had a bad experience. That's why I always find myself coming here, because everything just works. I will say, if they run out of ricotta pillows - an absolute must - everything else is just as divine. read more

Etta has such a beautiful venue with a very upbeat vibe. I came here on a Sunday for brunch for a friend's birthday. The reservation was for 11:30am we were seated at about 12pm. Noise level was pretty average nothing unexpected. After being seated the waitress took drink orders we didn't place our food order until like 12:45. The party I was with was not happy with that. My boyfriend and I ordered the cinnamon pecan roll. It was pretty good. I really liked the caramel on top I would have liked more pecans. We also ordered the flambe pizza. When we got it, it was barely warm. It was okay would have been better if the temperature was warmer. We also got mimosas for the table. Brut champagne does not go well with mimosas in my opinion but I dont make the menu. I would return to try a cocktail or two but I am not too excited to return otherwise. read more

Etta Bucktown is officially one of my favorite brunch spots now. SO many reasons why! 1. Food was hands down amazing for the price. Like everything else in the Wicker Park area, expect to spend at least $20 per person if you want to be filled. I usually don't order French toast at brunch spots because of how not filling they are, but WHOA, this French toast was on another level!! It was the thickest piece of brioche I've ever seen and delicious all the way through. The crispy chicken sandwich was savory and well spiced. Definitely more than filling for two. 2. Ambiance was crazy. We were seated in the upper greenhouse area, and while we were able to watch the snow outside, we were incredibly toasty. I don't find that in many Chicago restaurants -- not only was the heat up, but also were there heaters spread among the tables to keep us all warm. I could have forgotten it was winter. 3. Service wasn't the best I've experienced, but they were prompt and attentive. Food came out quickly and we did not feel like we were left waiting at any point. read more

Second time here. Came first time for a birthday and was able to try a little bit of everything. We had some vegetarians in our party, but there was plenty of vegetarian friendly choices that were absolutely amazing so it was great that we didn't have to ask for substitutions and honestly, I didn't feel like we were missing the meat. This time around, I was itching to try their brunch. We arrived near 11:30 am on Saturday with no reservation and the restaurant was very busy. The hostess said they had a free table right now but they'd need it back in an hour. That wasn't a problem for us. We were happy to be seated right away. The first thing on the menu that caught my eye was the Biscuits and Gravy. This came with fried chicken and I can honestly say this was the best biscuits and gravy meal I have ever had! The chicken was boneless and fried and had a nice little spicy zing. The buttermilk biscuit was delicious and the combination of everything together with the gravy was just perfect. We also had the Etta chopped salad to balance out the "heavier" biscuits and gravy. The ingredients tasted fresh, and again, their combination of toppings with the greens made the salad perfect. It tasted fulfilling and I didn't feel like I was eating "just a salad". Can't wait to be back! read more

Came for a Valentine's Day lunch and they did not disappoint! We ordered the focaccia and rack-roasted oysters to share. Holy moly those oysters were *chefs kiss. Perfectly seasoned/spiced and we could probably get an entrees worth of those alone. Wish the order came with more than four! The focaccia was great especially with the honey/ricotta mix (classic). I ordered the crispy chicken sandwich which came with fries, and then the "Etta Rita". Strong but good! The sandwich was good but pretty standard. My girlfriend ordered the halibut and clam chowder for her main. I think that was one of the best clam chowders we've had in the Midwest in awhile! We loved the addition of the halibut (which was plentiful). It added a bit of sweetness to it. Our server (Ryan? I think that was his name) was very attentive and friendly! They accidentally brought out the pita for me on accident (which also looked amazing) but was very nice about correcting it right away. etta is an absolute dream ~ in all the times i've visited chicago, this might be my favorite dining experience thus far - so much so that on my recent trip, i stopped in more than once. i can't think of a single item on the menu that isn't absolutely divine. the ricotta pillows and oysters are an absolute must and you can't go wrong with their pizza or pasta (cacio e pepe and cavatelli bolognese, i'm looking at you). service here is beyond amazing, the drinks are expertly made, and the ambiance is stellar. they also do weekend brunch, so you know where i'll be the next time i'm in town. in the meantime, i'm anxiously awaiting the grand opening of their culver city location; couldn't think of a more perfect addition to the city of angels. read more

Incredible customer satisfaction! After my previous review, the manager Ashley reached out to offer me a meal for two on them. Since I don't live in Chicago, I asked if I could pass the meal on to my friend, fully expecting Ashley to say no, but she said absolutely! The waiter went over the menu with us and told us to select a couple items we wanted to try and would then surprise us with the rest. We started off with drinks- the princess peach was a lovely sweet drink and the sunset on Damen had a nice hit to it! Next the focaccia with honey truffle ricotta was brought out. This dish is to DIE for- I tried it at Etta River North before and it is one of my absolute favorites. We also requested the mushroom pizza which is also to die for. Have had brunch at Etta but finally made it for dinner service and it did not disappoint! Decor is spacious and inviting with an open kitchen on the first of two levels with a beautiful custom oven. Our server Zach was personable and attentive. To start, we had the much touted ricotta pillows which were light, airy and melt in your mouth - like the fluffiest bite sized mashed potatoes you've ever had. Also had the rack roasted oysters which were buttery, flavorful with a kick of smokiness. Continued with wood-fired mushroom pizza which came accompanied with a little wooden box of add-on's which contained an excellent giardinara, hot sauce, and spices. I definitely prefer a red saucy pizza but the mushroom was a "white" pizza with no sauce and I have to say I still loved it. Our main, was the squid ink mafaldine and it was wonderful to have the homemade squid ink pasta with the crispy garlic. Would have liked to have seen more than 2 pieces of king crab but I get that is an expensive ingredient. My friends and I went to Etta last weekend for dinner and drinks. There were six of us, and our bill was over $400, and yet somehow we were treated like a burden from the moment we sat down. We made no modifications to any food or drinks and were polite the entire time, but our server still had a terrible attitude. She was visibly annoyed with us all night for absolutely no reason. We were seated near the bar and watched her drag her feet putting in our drink orders... it took literally 25 minutes for basic drinks to show up, and the bar wasn't even busy. We get that restaurants are hectic in Chicago on weekends -- that's not the issue. The problem was the blatant disrespect and rudeness of the staff. Our server was condescending, dismissive, and even walked away mid-sentence when my friend was speaking to her. It genuinely felt like we were ruining her night, when we were just there to have dinner and spend money like everyone else. It didn't stop there. When another employee came to clear the table (while several of us were still clearly eating), my friend literally had to play tug-of-war with our pizza to stop him from taking it. Then he proceeded to take the rest of our plates and all of our silverware. When we asked for new silverware, it took another 30 minutes to get ONE set. It was truly the most uncomfortable and confusing dining experience I've ever had. To make matters worse, when the bill came, there was a random "staff benefits" charge tacked onto the end and nobody bothered to tell us ahead of time, just went ahead and charged it to the card. We only noticed because we actually read the receipt. Very shady. The next morning, I tried to call and speak to the general manager. The woman who answered the phone claimed she didn't know who the GM even was (??) and couldn't give me an email either -- she just took my name and number and said someone would call me back. It's been over three days and shocker, no one has contacted me. SUPER disappointing. We were respectful, patient, spent a lot of money, and were treated like garbage. If you want to spend hundreds of dollars to be ignored, disrespected, and secretly charged fees without warning, then by all means go to Etta. Otherwise, save yourself the headache and go anywhere else. If you are the GM and are reading this, give me a call. The office has my number. read more

etta, where have you been all my Chicago life? I feel like you were hidden away from me for so long and I only got a chance to discover you now right as I leave Chicago. Needless to say, this spot really does rock and then some. The atmosphere inside was killer. It felt like I was in an Ocean's Eleven cut scene at a casino, only this time there was food amongst miscellaneous crevices where you'd end up hiding the loot. It was glamorous without completely feeling like it was out of your price range. We decided that we'd order a few items to share instead of having a very heavy meal. Our first appetizer came in the form of their marinated hamachi crudo ($15), which were thin slices of delicious yellowtail in a chili vinaigrette. It was absolutely delicious and a good way to kick things off. Following this, we ordered their bone marrow ($18) which came with a bomb potato puree. Both tasted great and were just enough to compliment our beers. Next time I come back, I look forward to trying some of their heartier dishes even if the prices seem a bit higher than normal. What we had: (in best to good order) #1 Sunset on Damen. We stuck with this mezcal drink all night. It was so refreshing and tasted like summer. #2 Bubbling shrimp - I could have ate this starter all night. Completely delicious! #3 Spicy green beans - Get these. I dunno Girl and The Goat, these were a strong contender. The aioli and chili sprinkles were divine. #3 also The fire baked focaccia - SOOOOOO YUMMY. Fresh, hot, buttery, sweet, perfection. #3 also Wild Mushroom pizza - really delicious contains truffle so you know it's real. I love to add red pepper or cheese to my pizza slices and Etta offers home made giardiniera, parmesan, oil and a spice mix for you to sprinkle on the pizza. We went ahead and got the old school breakfast sandwich and the etta soft scramble. To be honest, compared to Bongo room, I wasn't blown away. You won't be able to put your fork down at etta! It's a bustling, sleek restaurant that gravitates towards "gathering". etta is bucket list worthy. TIP: make a reservation. I called at 7:15PM on a Wednesday to reserve a table for two at 7:30PM. I'm glad I did! They didn't have availability until 8:00PM. The restaurant is divided into the downstairs and upstairs; much like a home. Both floors were jammed packed with people who just came from work. People were dressed on the business casual side. We felt slightly underdressed in jeans, but I saw a few other patrons with the same attire. We were seated right away thanks to our handy dandy reservation. Our server, Michelle, welcomed us with open arms, and explained the menu like the back of her hand. The menu had a lot of trigger words that sparks some serious mouth watering feelings, like roasted, hearth smoked, purée, and crisp. It's a butter forward menu, and definitely on the rich side! TIP: dishes are meant for sharing. People usually order two dishes per person. Three dishes per person and you will have leftovers. Pizzas and table dishes are counted as two. Michelle told us the popular dishes on the dinner menu are: fire- baked focaccia with honey (the softest bread she's ever ate), bubbling shrimp (succulent with some added heat from the chiltepin chile), hearth-fired caulilini (hybrid between cauliflower and broccoli), crispy kalettes (another rare find, crisp leaves perfect for snacking), fire pie (people find the giardiniera a hit), bucatini cacio e pepe (which she said is popular everywhere but she prefers it here due to the flavor), and the branzino (buttery soft)! Michelle gave us a lot of great descriptions. We decided on the bubbling shrimp, ember roasted parsnips, and the pepperoni pizza. THE BUBBLING SHRIMP was so delectable!! It was dripping with butter sauce that I thought about drinking. It had the perfect touch of heat to it. Mint + shrimp is a different level of good. The ember roasted parsnips peaked our interest because it's nice to eat a non starchy food, and it sounded interesting. THE PIZZA WAS BOMB A**. There's a FINE LINE between stale and crisp, and etta makes sure the wood fired pizzas are smoked to perfection. The buffalo mozzarella... mmmhmmm. Delicious, etta. I'm not a dessert person, but I was still curious to see the menu just because everything else had been so fascinating to our tastebuds. We passed due to tummy capacity. We both scratched our heads and wondered why such an elegant place would make such an odd decision. They replaced the American pizza staple with sopresatta. It's an all pork, somewhat good replacement. But unfortunately the night I arrived, they had run out. I'm not sure how an establishment like this runs out of anything, but it happened. I had a mushroom pizza instead. It was good, but not what I wanted. I know, I know. This two story restaurant has a modern & upscale yet cozy feel with a view of the kitchen and bar area. From the atmosphere to the food & drinks, everything was spot on. The ricotta pillows were light & fluffy - just like you'd expect from their name. So after debating between the bone marrow or oysters as our third appetizer, we decided on the oysters because our waiter told us they've stuck around on the menu since they've been open aka they have to be good right? Well they were! Comes with a smoked tomato butter, which was delicious. For the main entrees, we split the cavatelli bolognese and pepperoni pizza. Both were great!
