We recommend Hot Sammie's with the spice level going 3-4 levels down (mild!) even if you normally tolerate spice. Nonetheless, we wanted to try this place out since we read so many glowing yelp reviews. We ordered 2 gyros and 2 chicken sandwiches in medium heat (they unfortunately ran out of hot). Gyros were average. I felt it needed more sauce to jazz things up. The shining star of this place is the Nashville hot chicken sandwich. Their hot chicken sandwiches are delicious. Chicken is big, plump, and juicy. The buns are soft like a fluffy pillow. The sauce adds a nice creamy, tangy flavor. The slaw added another level of creaminess and helps break up some of the spice. The medium heat definitely was on the milder side. Just wish they had the hot flavor available when I was there. In terms of value, I do think the sandwiches are bit pricey considering the store is located inside a gas station and has little to no seating or service. Why is this place not a franchise is beyond me. I have always wanted to try Eureka Eatery for some time but never had the time because it was a distance for me. Well the time has come.... fast forward..... We drove to Eureka thinking it was just off the freeway but had to drive a few miles in to reach the eatery. We pulled into a small gas station and of course we were aware it was in a gas station and we figured we would order a carry out and eat in our car. We walked in a seen a line of people waiting to order different items on the menu. As we approached the counter we were in amaze of the donut selection with unique toppings such as maple bacon and strawberry shortcake. We were only interested in the infamous Sammie sandwich as we tried to figure out the spice levels of the Sammie sandwich. Yes spice levels, from country, mild, medium, hot, burning and extra fire. I tried the medium one and OMG!!!! This was the most savory chicken sandwich I have ever ate. Forget Popeyes, Chic-fil-A and who ever else. This should be on everyone's bucket list. This place was just okay. In hindsight I should have ordered a gyro with tzatziki (sp?) sauce, but instead I did the build your own with garlic. First off, yes, it's in a gas station, but that's fine. My build your own gyro came with a pita (but you could choose a rice bowl, the thinner piadini bread, or lettuce) and I asked for garlic, but for some reason the garlic came on the side. My boyfriend got the chicken shwarma and that was tasty. Mine was okay, the pita and meat tasted fresh but I've had better gyros. It was about $16 for two gyros and a sofa, too, which is kind of pricey. You can go to Malek al Kabob down the street and get a shwarma sandwich for $4.99. For as long as I've been visiting local restaurants and reviewing them, I've always seen others comment on Eureka Eatery. The majority of the time it's about their fried chicken sandwiches, which look great. I never made an effort to try their food because they are so far from me and it's not easy making time. But my weekly schedule has recently opened up, and I am happy to say that an opportunity presented itself to finally sample their menu. Recently I saw a foodie post Instagram pics of the restaurant's new February special, the waffle fry bowls. Then the following day my wife told me she was craving chicken tenders. I couldn't ignore these signs, and decided on my day off to drive down to Monroe, MI and grab me a waffle fry bowl (specifically the sweet & spicy thai). In addition I got my wife a hot tenders combo and a side of mac & cheese. The only negative thing I can say about this establishment is that it's too far from me. Of course it would be unfair to count that against them, but whoever is fortune enough to live close to this place must eat here on the regular if they can afford the prices. As much as I like the food, I can't help but feel like the menu is too simple. Simple isn't always bad, but it could use a little variety. I heard they used to offer shawarmas and gyros, which is a shame cause I'm sure they were good. I'm not the first to say this, but I am getting some Chick-fil-A vibes from here. For a place attached to a gas station I am very impressed. The food is on par with other establishments that offer chicken tenders and sandwiches, I just wouldn't say it's unique beyond the waffle fry bowls which ironically was my motivation to make the trip. read more
