When I called on 2/4 to confirm, they rescheduled me to 2/11. Strange, but I went along with it. The Service: When I arrived on 2/11, I explained that my struts were recently replaced but the car had been making a rattling noise. They quoted $90 for a diagnostic inspection. Within 10 minutes, they called me over to show me a loose bolt (pictured). The mechanic tightened it in about 5 minutes. Then they charged me $200--apparently $90 for the diagnostic plus $110 to tighten a single bolt. Upsell Attempt: They also recommended replacing my struts for $1,500 ($1,300 with their "discount"). This doesn't make sense since I just had them replaced, which is why I brought the car in for the rattling in the first place. Bottom Line: $200 to tighten one bolt in 5 minutes feels excessive. I'll be getting a second opinion on the strut recommendation. I'm disappointed because I specifically chose this shop based on positive reviews, but my experience didn't match the reputation. Needless to say, I was devastated! After nearly taking apart and putting back every loose nut and bolt without success, I handed it over to Remy to see if he could work his magic on the hood. When I got the go-ahead to come pick up my baby, the problem was not fixed and he had charged $1000 in parts and labor for other parts that he had deemed needing replacement. Wait, WHAT? Now, fellow Yelpers, I understand this is an older car-- and a model with a reputation for pricey upkeep-- that's not what bothered me. Okay, maybe it irked me a little... HOWEVER, how the heck did he get that darned hood open?! and why would it now not stay open? WHY was my radio now in antitheft mode?? The whole initial purpose of my trip to this specialty mechanic had been for naught! (Aside from the replacement parts; I agree that work was necessary given the original state of my car but it still hurts my wallet thinking about it) Here is where I admit I went wrong: I drove off the lot without ensuring I could also pop the hood with ease. A few hours and several confusing, flustering phone calls later, I brought my car to the lot to have the owner demonstrate to me just how they got my hood open. Even later.... read: a team of five men, many squished fingers, brute force, plus my boyfriend and I trying to compress the hood latch, the stubborn beast popped open. And Remy explained that the hood would still stick, but require some elbow grease to pry open. And gave the excuse that my radio was set at anti-theft because the team had needed to take out the battery to replace a part. (Huh?) And the only way to unlock my radio was to call the dealership and for a nominal fee, Audi would look up the code for me. (Double huh??) SPOILER ALERT: We were able to reset the radio FOR FREE after locating the code inside the auto manual and the sticky hood latch was fixed with a simple tightening of a bolt with a wrench within five minutes. Needless to say, I was very disappointed with the service model I received this time around, especially for the inconvenience it caused for all parties involved.

We've been taking our BMWs (we've had 2) to the dealership because it's just very simple and straightforward. But, after our warranty ended and feeling like we should shop around a little bit for service/price since the dealership can cost more, really glad we found this shop. Have worked with both Michael and Dennis and they've been really helpful and thorough. Michael spent 15minutes with me at least to help me understand what needed to be done and estimated cost and Dennis helped check if something were under my warranty. I feel so much better finding this shop and not feeling ripped off and being able to ask all of the stupid questions without feeling like I'm wasting someone's time. Great experience with Alirio's Garage…read more My 2018 Infiniti QX80 (202k miles) developed a low-RPM hesitation/shudder during light acceleration. After doing some research, it appeared to be related to aging transmission fluid and the torque converter. When I contacted Jorge at Alirio's Garage, he immediately understood what I was describing and was willing to do the service properly rather than just a quick drain-and-fill. He performed a full transmission service including dropping the pan, cleaning the magnets, servicing the internal filter, and doing multiple staged fluid exchanges using OEM-spec transmission fluid so the old fluid in the torque converter and lines was actually replaced. The result was immediate -- the hesitation is completely gone and the vehicle drives smoothly again. What impressed me most was Jorge's honesty and attention to detail. He scanned the transmission control module beforehand to make sure there were no codes. He even pointed out some rust around the transmission pan drain area and recommended replacing the pan at a future service, but he didn't try to upsell the repair now. If you're looking for an honest and knowledgeable mechanic in Santa Clara, I would absolutely recommend Alirio's Garage. I'll definitely be back.

Paid $900, supplied my own part, told him not to guess. He guessed. Misfire still active…read more Brought my 2015 VW GTI in for a confirmed cylinder 2 misfire (P0302). I had already done my own diagnostics before drop-off -- swapped the coil pack and spark plug to other cylinders, misfire stayed on cylinder 2, ruling both out. He quoted $600 over the phone using his own parts, which I agreed to. When I showed up, he pulled a bait-and-switch: he would only honor the $600 price if I supplied my own part. I had an OEM Bosch fuel injector at home but hadn't brought it because the original agreement was that he would supply parts. He knew this and still changed the terms at drop-off, forcing me to go home, retrieve my own part, and return -- just to hold him to a price he had already quoted. I told him directly: I do not want this injector thrown in if it isn't confirmed as the cause. I want the misfire fixed. He acknowledged this. He then told me it was 90% likely the coil or plug -- the exact two components I had already tested and eliminated. He installed my injector anyway without confirming it was the fault. It didn't fix the misfire. The quote continued to change. $600 on the phone became $650 in person. He then added carbon cleaning and quoted $900 total. Later he texted $1,000. I had to remind him of his own quote -- he agreed and admitted he didn't remember what he said. I wrote "Cyl 2 misfire" on the work order as the service requested and signed it. He called at 2:25pm saying the car was fixed. I paid $900 and drove home with the engine stumbling worse than before. Scanned the car at home -- P0302 still active and confirmed. A new fault code also appeared that was not present before drop-off. I returned to the shop in good faith and gave them the opportunity to make it right before taking any further action. They refused. $900 paid. My own part used. Bait-and-switch on parts and price. Explicit instructions ignored. Misfire unresolved. Car running worse. BAR complaint filed.

Chris at Auto Clutch and Transmission has continued to build my trust almost every time I go in…read more Two days ago, the check engine light went on. The message said " vehicle dynamic system need to be checked." My gas mileage also went from 25 mpg to 18 mpg. I took the 2016 Forrester in and Chris hooked up a diagnostic tool and said let's check the fuel regulator. He cleaned it and it worked. It took him less than 10 minutes and did not even charge me. Maybe the half dozen Stan's donuts was enough!
