Jeff and the guys at Precision have taken my MK7 Golf R from bone stock to stage 3 over the course of this year. I'm extremely particular about who I let work on my cars and I honestly cannot speak highly enough about the quality of work and service that I've received from Precision. I've never had to return my car to them after work has been done and Jeff's meticulous (nearing OCD level!) attention to detail means he never lets a car leave until he's personally signed off on the work. It's this level of care that makes me trailer my car from LA to Santa Clara each time I've upgraded parts, for them to carry out the work. To give you an example of their dedication to customer satisfaction, here's 2 I personally witnessed while my car was in the shop: 1) A young kid came in for a stage 1 software upgrade. While getting his car flashed he chatted to Jeff about wanting his exhaust upgrading, but didn't have the money to do it. Jeff asked if he'd considered a resonator delete (a $150 job that gets you a little more sporty tone from the stock exhaust). The kid said he didn't have the money to do it right now, so would save up and come back. But instead of that, Jeff had the guys go ahead and do the res-delete anyway, free of charge so this young car enthusiast could enjoy his car even more. That's how you get a customer for life! 2) A guy with a big Audi (A7 perhaps?) came in with engine misfire / check engine light. They went through the whole car and couldn't figure it out, then right at the last second spotted a tiny split in the plastic intake tube allowing unregulated air through the motor. It was late in the evening, no parts places were open and the customer needed the car for a trip. So rather than have him wait until the morning to order in the replacement, Jeff pulled the aftermarket air intake off his personal car and fit it to the Audi to get the customer on his way. He then put his own car back to stock. It's this type of thing that sets Precision apart from other shops I've dealt with. The level of genuine customer care is like nothing I've experienced before and the quality of their work is second to none. They resolved an odd electrical problem I was having with my AUDI Q3 steering column that affected all the controls mounted there, including airbag sensors!, as well as a leaking valve cover they repaired before it developed serious issues. Came here for a reflash and thought it'll be done within an hour but unfortunately it took 3.5 hrs for the mechanic to f**k around the car as Jeff (the owner) said. 3.5 f***ing hours and ended up with a stock tune. Complete waste of money! I went to precision before and they did my reflash the car twice about few years ago but today's experienced was totally different: I can tell the owner is an arrogant, low self esteem, and would yell at any one just to prove his right. Dropped my car off unannounced for a alternator check up. They were able to work my 08 VW R32 into they queue in a timely manner and diagnosed the alternator was bad. I approved the estimate via email. The OEM parts were available and repair was quick. Car is running great again. Will be return for more maintenance items and a couple upgrades. I can't say enough good things about this family owned and operated shop. Jeff and Brandon are incredibly knowledgeable and fun to talk to. Their techs are super-capable and can do any job, regardless of difficulty. They replaced two turbos on my BMW and diagnosed and repaired gremlins in my 70s Ford truck as well. Both my vehicles have never run so well before. My friends and family all go here and have had similar experiences. They are completely honest and trustworthy. If something takes a 1/2 hour, they will only charge for the 1/2 hour instead of rounding up. If they can find a better price on something, to save the customer a few bucks, they will do it. To update my last post, I finally got the shop check my car 2.5 weeks AFTER . They were indeed very professional. The owners and their mechanics. You can tell they are down to earth and will get you your car fixed ASAP. My car was checked out and they went through with me every thing they checked and explained elaborately the inspection list. Chris and Jeff are very courteous to their customers in person. They know you are paying hard earned money and want you to obtain the best experience for you to come back. I personally value and respect their tradition and goals to not answer their phones when talking to a customer in person while trying to bring back to old American car shop vibe and customer service where everyone is a family. It was my first time to get my new pre-owned car serviced so I wanted to find the best to get my car checked out where I said money wasn't too much a constraint because I wanted quality. With their service charge being a bit high, which they admit to, it somewhat drove me to shop around for another shop to get second opinions to let myself feel comfortable. So they lost a star because of their cost and time. If you're someone who's in need for an emergency fix, this ISN'T the place to go because they're so booked up and from my perspective, they value their appointments and don't seem willingly want to fit you in for the day unless its a life/death situation. Took my Audi Q5 in for 65K maintenance with request for additional attention to trunk lid not opening all the way. Trunk lid issue was thought to be caused by struts on either side which must be malfunctioning. Solution was to install new struts, however the pricey new struts did not solve the problem. When I brought the car back in for further repair, the real problem came to light and was resolved -- which did NOT involve the need to replace the struts. The shop owner acknowledged my disappointment in having to purchase unneeded parts and adjusted my invoice accordingly. They also delivered the car to my house with trunk lid in perfect working condition within a few hours of having dropped it off. These guys are awesome. They're good at what they do and provide excellent customer service. I will continue to bring my car there for service and will highly recommend to friends!!! read more

Excellent customer service, communication, speed (they completed so many repairs on my car in just one day). They sent me a detailed report with pictures of all recommended repairs and emailed me a detailed estimate for approval before starting any repairs. Took my 3 year car to this place and met with Brandon. I have a Ford Explorer Platinum. Let me repeat: I have a 3-year old Ford Explorer Platinum and I've had so many problems with this car but especially with the car battery. I had replaced the battery 1 year ago with one of the best brands in the market. Had a 5 year warrantee. Apparently, after taking it to Brandon, he used a large device (also apparently very expensive) to check the battery. Well, the device showed that the brand new battery was nearly dead! Huh?! So he suggested I contact the place I bought it from and exchange it for a new one. So I did. Came back to this place where Brandon quickly installed it. Didn't cost much but my God, this car is always draining the battery. Will never invest in a Ford ever again! read more

Brandon noticed an oil leak, put in some dye to try to find it and had me come back in a month. He and two of his guy spent half an hour looking for a leak, never did find it. ZERO charge. I needed brakes that the stealership kept trying me to change when it wasn't necessary. WOW, great price and they are better than when I got the car (pre loved). Came here with high expectations but left feeling disappointed. Picked up my car after an oil change and they were supposed to fix a clogged windshield washer nozzle. I even reminded them to fix it and they said they would. They never even bothered to look at it. It actually saddens me to have to write this review update, but Jeff Sowell, the owner of this auto shop, has a really bad temper and after years of trusting these guys and their great work, I just can't condone the actions of their leader when I came to their shop today. To provide some background, I took my Porsche to Jeff's shop exactly one year ago when I first purchased it used and paid them $200 for a thorough inspection. No issues were found at the time. I trusted them because I had taken a previous Porsche and a Lexus for service and part upgrades in the past without any issues. I even wrote them a 5 star review four years ago. Fast forward one year later and it's time for an oil change and update inspection. Since I only put about 4000 miles on the car in a year, I figured it would be routine. I even thought, maybe I could wait a few more months. Then I saw a promotional email from Precision and I thought, wow, what great timing. To make it as unbiased as possible, here is the language of the promotion: $119.95 Oil Change With 55 Point Inspection Special includes: Oil filter, up to 5 qts 5W40 full synthetic oil, 55 point digital inspection with photos, replace tail light bulbs & turn signal bulbs as needed, rotate tires & top off all fluids as needed. Specialty bulbs not included, not all vehicles qualify. Tax & Hazardous waste not included. Call for restrictions. I even clicked on the button in the email to book an appointment. Then today, on the scheduled appointment date, I brought my car in and met Gabe, one of the guys on Jeff's team. Everything seemed routine. He even told me "ok we'll get started and we'll give you a call around 1pm when it's ready." That was literally the extent of our conversation. Around 3:30pm, I had gotten a text message from the shop, and an email, but I didn't have a chance to respond, so after I finish at work, I give the shop a call to see if the car is ready. Here is where things went south. Jeff picks up the phone and he already sounds annoyed. I have no idea why. His first comment to me was "did you read the email"? And I told him sorry, I didn't have time. Instead of doing what was agreed in the special above, apparently they only did the inspection and then sent me an email with additional estimates worth $500 to complete the rest of the oil change and to replace my cabin air filters (additional not in the special). I told Jeff, I didn't understand, because I thought his special was for the oil change only, and that's all I needed, and I felt like it was a bait and switch. That's when Jeff went off the deep end and basically was shouting at me over the phone and I was the person, as a customer, who was trying to calm him down! I was even trying to reason with him, but he kept mouthing off and I had to hang up on him because he kept on rambling and I knew it was going nowhere. Can you believe that? A customer having to hang up on a business because its owner has a temper problem. Honestly, if those guys had put out a $200 or $300 or $500 special, and had been honest upfront about the actual cost of their work, I would have paid it happily, as I did the year before shelling out $200 for nothing more than an inspection. But to be told a service is only going to cost me $120, and then turn around and hand me a $500 bill, smells bad to me. I can't recommend Jeff's behavior with customers. I recently purchased a used Mercedes and wanted to get quotes on some repairs I knew needed to be done on the car. I was referred to Precision Motorworks by another shop that I trusted so I figured they were legit. I spoke to Jeff who quoted me $140 for a diagnostic of all my repairs. He also said they would do a complete inspection of the car for free, as a courtesy. He kept telling me that him and Chris were former Master Mechanics from Mercedes and they were extremely knowledgeable and not in the business of lying to people. His demeanor was almost defensive, which made me uncomfortable because I wasn't accusing him of anything, I was just asking questions. I dropped off my car in the morning and by lunch they called me with the "bad news". The repairs I requested alone would cost $900 and on top of that they had discovered a number of other problems, which would cost me an additional $2,500. I'm not sure if they thought I was young and dumb or if this is their standard operating procedure, but I immediately felt like something was off. When I went to pick up my car I went over all the repairs with them and they told me they buy their parts from Mercedes directly. The pricing on parts alone was nearly $2,000. Chris shrugged at me and said "Yea, even old Mercedes parts are still expensive". I knew I was being taken for a ride so I politely declined the repairs and when they rung me up for the diagnostic it came out to $180. I brought up that I had been quoted $140, but after some fast-talking it was clear they weren't budging on charging me $180. I didn't feel like making a big stink because it was obvious to me that these people were in the business of squeezing people for dollars so I paid and left. Later I learned that automotive repair shops get discounts of 10-20% when they buy parts through Mercedes, so that alone right there shows that Precision Motorworks is taking some cash off the top by quoting MSRP on parts to customers. I went to two shops in South San Jose, both of which quoted me significantly lower prices for the same repairs: Precision Motorworks - $3,400 Almaden Auto Repair - $2,600 Thanhs Auto Repair - $2,200 I took my car to Thanhs and they performed excellent work on my car AND saved me over $1,000 from the crooks that are Precision Motorworks. Consider this: Precision Motorworks opens at 8 and closes at 5:30 Monday thru Friday. Why is it that an auto repair shop can afford to close early when other shops are open til 6 or 7pm and not work on the weekends when almost all other shops are open on Saturdays? BECAUSE THEY MAKE SO MUCH MONEY RIPPING PEOPLE OFF FROM 8-5:30 MONDAY-FRIDAY THAT THEY DON'T NEED TO WORK LATE OR ON THE WEEKENDS. I had such a negative experience with Precision Motorworks that I took the time to type all this up and you better believe I have told everyone I know and their grandmothers to steer clear of this shop. read more

"They don't know what I have to pay to find out how much I have to pay" Above sums up this review. 1999 Lexus throwing Check Engine Light. Scan at Autozone pulls up 2 codes says EVAP (pollution) system showing loss of vacuum somewhere in fuel system. Could be gas cap (not that, I bought a new genuine Lexus cap), or VSV values, lines or Charcoal Canister. Called, and nice mechanic answered. Said, yes we can fix that, I've seen a lot of them. Probably one of the VSV valves. Asked if he had a smoke test. Sure. How much to find out? 1 hour $135. I ask if all he was going to do was read the codes for $135, he said, no, they're gonna diagnose the failing part(s). Said Service Manager would call. SM calls. I tell him I got a P0441 P0446. Gas cap new and tested. Your tech said $135. SM says "No". It's $135.05. Ah.....ok. He starts to read from the Lexus Diagnostic Service Manual for those codes. I say I have that in front of me now (I got from the internet). He continues to read each page. And i say, OK, we're reading from the same sheet of music. I get it. So I say...for $135.05 you can tell me how much it's gonna cost to fix it?. No. We gotta see the car. Ok, then will it take 10 hours to diagnose it? No, I have to see the car. This is going down hill fast. I say get out your Flat Rate manual and add up all the time to do the diagnostics you just read me. He says No, I gotta see the car. I say, so it's might cost me 5 hours x $135 to find out how much I gotta pay. He say "maybe". But it's $135.05, not $135.00 .... ah...ok. Change tack. Ok, what do you think the probability it's gonna be diagnosed in 1 hour? [Remember the tech guy said 1 hour]. SM: "I don't know." I say, maybe I'm being unreasonable, but don't you think its reasonable for me to ask "about" how much this is gonna cost? "Can't say" OK...say I pay for the diagnostic then you find the problem, then the Engine light comes on again after a week. Will you stand behind your work? [This is happened me before on my Camry]. Now the SM is boiling mad. He starts to read word-for-word his work guarantee fine print. I try to interrupt him, and he snaps back "Shut up, let me finish". I'm stunned. I hung up after thanking him for his time. I'm thinking...geesh. All I wanted to know is how would much the diagnosis cost and do you stand behind your work? Did I miss the memo? Precision Motorworks may have outstanding technical personnel, but this arrogant Service Manager is rude, disrespectful, and needs a serious attitude adjustment Avoid this place. PS I predict the SM will jump within 1 day this review posting and present a story of a wise ass dot com engineering tekkie who's trying to tell him how to do his job. SM was very unpleased I had access to his secret book of codes and procedures. SM was threatened by my, he'll say, unreasonable questions. read more

Let me preface this review by saying that I did NOT have any work done by them. I needed some shocks replaced on my 2001 4-Runner. I came here after a recommendation from a friend. I called to get an estimate and was told to come in because they needed my VIN. Okay, fine. I went in the following Monday in the morning and spoke to Chris. I gave him my info and he told me he would call me back later that day after things settle down. I can understand that. 10am...... no call......... 12pm..... no call......2pm.....no call....... 5pm...... nada! People are busy, and I'm understanding, so I'll cut them some slack. I call back the next day and speak to Jeff and he says he'll let Chris know. At the end of the day, nothing. Next day, I call again and leave a message with someone else..... still no call. Three strikes.... YOU'RE OUT!! All I wanted was an estimate and after 3 tries, I got zilch. Guess they don't like working on Toyotas. And, if you're thinking maybe they got my number wrong, I gave it 3 times and also left my e-mail on a piece of paper they made me fill out. Why the extra star? I got a "warm" welcome from Precision. I went in to talk to them when I was planning on getting tuned. I walk in & the guy behind the desk just stares at me without saying anything for 30 seconds. Literally just staring at me with this stupid look on his face. After our awkward moment, the other guy who was in the office asked what I needed. I told him I was looking for info on APR tuning, at which point he said I would need to talk to the guy behind the desk. Yes, that same mute customer service genius that pulled a Rainman seconds earlier. Ok, WTF. Good start... The first thing he said when I started asking about the APR flash was how it would void my warranty & that they're not liable. He literally wouldn't give me any other information until I agreed to that. First, it's not true. Second, I'm not an idiot & told him right off the bat that I had done my research. Then when we finally got around to talking specifics, it turns out they charge $130 for a flash. Keep in mind this is a Golf R, and therefore a port flash. You DO NOT need to pull the ECU. Again, you just plug in the cable to the OBD port & flash... He wanted $130 for the equivalent of plugging in a USB drive & sending a file over to it. I asked why it was so expensive and how it seemed excessive for a port flash. "WELL I BOUGHT ALL THIS APR EQUIPMENT, AND I NEED TO PAY IT OFF SOMEHOW!!! DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH ALL THIS COST!?!" Suffice to say I didn't get any work done there, and never will. read more

I went here for plumes of smoke emitting from my exhaust. $500+ later they changed my spark plugs and said the vehicle was running rich and the problem probably won't be fixed until the fuel burns out of the exhaust system. Ok look. I first contacted Precision to get a quote for a 100k mile service on my car. A friend had recommended this shop to me so I was like ok great, let's do this. I was not expecting this kind of treatment at ALL. Im incredibly shocked that this shop is still around. If I wanted prompt service, polite mechanics and a quick response, I would NOT have come here. I came to get incorrect parts ordered and to be told the shop was so backed up it would take a month to fit me in. Instead I was givin a fair quote using all oem parts the next day. On top of this overly nice attitude I received an appointment date only 5 days after I received my estimate. What kind of Automotive shop do they run over there. When I got into the shop it only got worse. I was offered tasty donuts, the room was air conditioned because apparently sitting in a sweltering shop office is too much to ask for. While I waited a few moments for them to complete my vehicle Jeff had the nerve to strike up a friendly conversation with me about things I was interested in like cars and baseball. They are unlike any other automotive shop I have ever used and I am still surprised.
