Rarely do I leave reviews, but we had such a horrible experience here, I had to share.
I feel like I visited a completely different vet than the one everyone else here has gone to. I initially chose this vet for all the high ratings, and because my boyfriend and I wanted a second opinion about a weird rash on our kitten's paw. We made an appointment for a Saturday afternoon, well before they closed. When we got there, we didn't have to wait long before we were shown into the exam room. It turns out the wait time was by far the best part of our whole experience. The vet tech (from what I could tell, was the only one there) came in, and began the routine vitals check. However, unlike our vet that we normally go to where the techs talk to the animals, are gentle, and appear to like animals in general, this vet tech roughly grabbed our kitten by both the throat and the back of the neck whenever she needed to hold him, took him out of the room to get weighed without telling us where she was going, and took his temperature without asking if one of us could pet him to distract him or anything. Finally, seeing how upset he was getting at this rough treatment, I asked if I could hold him while she continued. Though I did, she still attempted to grab him by the neck though she could have just asked me to keep him still. I was floored. Not once did she pet him, or try to handle him in a gentle manner whatsoever, and our kitten was not acting in any way that deserved this treatment. He was actually very calm until she started manhandling him.
Then, the vet came in. While he was nice to us, and slightly nicer to our kitten than the vet tech had been, he did not have the bedside manner that we have come to expect from our normal vet (Bixby Animal Clinic). He told us matter-of-factly our kitten very likely had ringworm (though later tests indicated otherwise), and took a sample of skin to test for ringworm without asking and without giving us a price quote beforehand. After this, we were rushed out of the exam room, though there was only one person in the waiting room when we left.
At the reception desk, we got another unexpected surprise. A bill of almost $200! We were shocked, $200 for about 5 min?! It turns out, the ringworm test, which we did not authorize, cost almost $70. The other bulk of the cost was medication, and we were floored at the prices. At our normal vet, they are always more than willing to work with you on prices, especially if you find the same medication somewhere else for cheaper. When we expressed our concerns, we were treated with a very dismissive attitude, until finally we just asked for a copy of the prescription so we could order it ourselves. What Evening Pet Clinic wanted to charge us almost $100 in medications for, we got online for $30. I really don't know how they get patients to return with that kind of markup. After this whole experience, I really don't know who was more upset, my poor kitten or myself. I have never been to a clinic that treated my animals so unkindly, and I will never, EVER be going back here. I had to call a few times to check on the status of the ringworm test, and not once was I asked, "How is your kitten doing?" Maybe I'm just too used to the wonderful treatment of my cats at Bixby Animal Clinic? If you are looking for a good vet, I would recommend going just about anywhere else but here. read more
