The sandwiches are ridiculous. When I am I town, this is the only place that I want to go. The only problem is that I am not always up for the punishment they dish out. Naps, lassitude, and lethargy often result. Just ask Cory to "make me something good", and then try your best to take it like a man when he metes out the abuse. read more

One of our weekly stops to get fresh baked breads, rolls, etc. have not tried their sandwiches, but they do look great. There is also a small coffee roaster in the back that roasts some of the best coffee in Valley a County. Definitely recommend this place for baked goods. read more

As awesome as ever and OPEN! I missed these guys so much this winter when they were closed due to health issues. Running a small town single proprietor bakery is a tough gig. Very good sandwich. I've only eaten here once, but I'd do it again. So far it is the best place I've eaten at in this little town. They are going through a renovation, so it isn't pretty right now, but it looks like they'll have a very nice place when it is done. In the mean time, the food still rocks. read more

We visited McCall last week for a special anniversary trip. We got sandwiches here and drove to Upper Payette and had a little picnic. I got the red basil aioli with turkey on olive & feta bread, holy smokes! My husband got pastrami and was equally blown away. Couldn't decide if the view or our lunch was better. Great bread and cookies. Wide variety from apricot to walnut blue cheese. Delicious. Today we tried blueberry raisin, sour dough and baguette. By the end of the day we finished all the sour dough and two third the baguette. The kids were asking for it all day. Great bread! After coming to McCall for over 10 years we finally moved here. One of the great joys in addition to family is access to Evening Rise on a regular basis. The cinnamon raisin on Mondays, the apricot cranberry on Saturday, and adventures in bread on the others make us concerned about our diet. The cookies are great as well as the sandwiches. This is my favorite bread on the planet. Every time I go, there is a huge variety from which to choose, the regulars that we all love, and seasonal breads as well. Huckleberry bread, cranberry breads, nut breads, whole grain wheat, ciabattas, rosemary and cheddar, and on and on. It's delicious! I've tried so many, and just keep coming back for more. We had a difficult time finding the deli at first (Google directions were incorrect) but once we found it we were pleasantly surprised. The outside of the building was rustic and nicely decorated for fall. The two guys working behind the counter were and friendly. They even showed me the huge brick oven where they bake their bread. The grilled sandwich we had was the daily special which was turkey with fire roasted peppers and melted provolone cheese on brioche. It tasted divine! While the sandwich I had was excellent - the people working at Evening Rise have ZERO interest in making sandwiches as part of their business - it is all about the bread making and even they will admit that. I went on one Saturday, ordered the special and it was very good. I tried to go two weeks later arriving at 2:30 and was told they were done making sandwiches for the day - even though they don't close until 4:00. In their exact words 'yeah, we are done making sandwiches today'. No other reason provided. I thought - give them another chance the following weekend. I arrive earlier in the day asking if they can make the special from 2 weeks ago. Instead of saying - glad you liked it so much, unfortunately, we don't have all the ingredients for that sandwich, how about trying today's special...anything positive would have been nice. Instead, I was quickly told - one special, it is on the board. When I placed my sandwich order on top of the other orders - as all the other customers did, one of the men replied 'nice try' as if I attempted to get my order in ahead of the others. He took my order and made sure I was watching and placed it on the bottom. Interesting enough, he took another customer's order who came in well after me and promply made his sandwich. After waiting 25 minutes knowing that there were only 5 others ahead of mine, it was the wrong order! I would like to believe it was an honest mistake, however, with the unprofessional behavior of the Evening Rise staff - nothing would surprise me. Anyone remember the Sienfeld episode with the Soup Nazi? Sandwich nazi comes to mind. Great product - but poor business model! There is no customer service, no friendly greeting by any of the staff and they expect people who come in to some how know that they must fill out a form for a sandwich and place it - even though there is nothing to tell you where - in the correct spot and position on the counter. You may or may not get a sandwich depending upon how the staff feels at that moment. No Sandwich for You! read more

Great sandwich if you like to wait 45 minutes, watch tons of people come in after and walk out with their sandwiches before you. They have absolutely no system for making sandwiches so you just have to hope yours gets made at some point and if you don't bug them you may never actually get it. One guy in there was pissed cause he'd been waiting an hour. They were playing extremely vulgar music dropping the f bomb and motha' f over and over, which was unpleasant to say the least. One of the staff made a rude comment to a customer who was getting irritated at his long wait and stared him down. No greeting is given when you walk in the door or at any point thereafter. Literally no service. Pretty sure these employees actually hate human beings. My husband's order was wrong but at that point we were so angry and so hungry we just wanted out of that horrible place. The bread is fantastic, the sandwiches are cheap and they load it with so much meat I can't even fit it into my mouth. But again, who wants to be treated like dogs for a sandwich? And did I mention we waited 45 minutes for a sandwich? Doesn't matter how good it is, it's not worth it. read more

Usually a great place. Stopped in after a long day fishing. Was told it would be 1/2 hour wait. I was okay with that. After 45 minutes of hearing the owner complain about how busy he was and wondered if they were the only place open I found out he didn't even have my order. People were walking out frustrated. It's been six months since we visited McCall and ate at Evening Rise. I still think about that sandwich... Every detail of my veggie sandwich was perfect. Not too many onions, everything thinly sliced to meld together better, perfect amount of aioli, perfect amount of cheese, wonderful bread. My son and my husband enjoyed their sandwiches equally. And who would have thought this gem was hidden away in such a beautiful little place? When you walk in pick up your form, fill it out and hand it in. The line moves quickly. Were these sandwiches as cheap as Subway? Absolutely not, but I wouldn't eat at Subway. And the cookies were delicious, too. read more

McCall's Little Gem. Evening Rise Bread Company is the best place ever! Their bread is fantastic...So many choices...So much goodness! You are probably going to need to buy at least 3 loaves if you can narrow down your choices that far! Blue Cheese Walnut Wheat is FANTASTIC! Jalepeno Cheddar makes for an amazing sammy. This place rocks. The guys are nice enough AND who cares?!? The bread is delicious, the environment is quirky and fun - and the sandwiches are awesome. It takes a minute more to make bread like this and sandwiches like this - but this isn't a huge delay by any stretch of the imagination. Had the special with roast beef, jalapeños, pepper jack, and horseradish on a house made toasted hoagie. Phenomenal! Also took a scone and a loaf to go - both my wife and I loved it. read more

This is always my first choice for a sandwich in McCall. Bread is all fresh baked on the premises. I never get a full sandwich cause the 1/2 is plenty big enough. Just wish they had more places to sit & eat. read more

My first visit to McCall last week, I was told by my brother that I must get a sandwich at this place in town that has THE BEST SANDWHICHES, words failed him to describe it adequately he said. He could not remember the name so we asked around. Everyone said "Evening Rise". My husband and I of course went there for a sandwich. As mentioned in an earlier review customer service is not what they are about. I am reminded of the Soup Nazi episode of Seinfeld. They aren't that bad but the fact they reminded me of the episode speaks volumes. The man making my husband's sandwhich was the nicer of the two, spoke my husband's name as it was written on the sandwich card, asking if he wanted a half or whole because he forgot to circle his choice. I believe he had to ask another question of my husband, again addressing him by name. I too forgot to circle half or whole, the man making my sandwich just held up my sandwich slip and pointed it at me, he did not say a word. I knew I forgot to circle my chioce once my husband was asked so I tried to engage my sandwich maker and ask the size of the sandwiches, we had never eaten there after all. Like pulling teeth is the phrase that comes to mind. I was left with a bad taste in my mouth before even taking a bite. I actually felt unwelcome, almost as if I was a bother. I would go there again but I would not go there as often as if they had made me feel welcome. Hubs and I ate half and the remaining sandwhich halves were eaten by my sister, her husband and my nephew. The sandwhich was huge! The sandwhich was delicious. read more

Evening Rise is the best place to eat in McCall for a cheap meal. I grew up here and have never been dissapointed with any of the food. After reading some of the reviews where people complain about not being greeted or long wiat times, I decided to write my own. Harden up people! This isn't a big city or establishment either. There are only 2 people working behind the counter and they work very hard. In the summer they can be backed up 20 sandwhich orders or more. They can only slang sandwhiches so fast. Also, just because you are not greeted when entering does not mean they don't appreciate your business or decision to eat there. All 3 guys that work there are awesome people. I've been going to Evening Rise since they opened about 10 years ago. They have only gotten better with time. Don't let other reviews make you feel weary about going here. Yes it is a smaller building and they do run out of ingredients for their sandwhiches. That is because this place so damn tasty. Order a loaf of bread with your sandwhich too, you won't be let down. read more
