Absolutely recommend this gem of an ice cream spot. The scoops are ridiculously big. I can't even imagine how someone would order more than their one scoop. For once I couldn't finish my "one scoop" of I cream. I'm not usually a birthday cake ice cream fan but there's was delicious. So was the cookies and cream. Very yummy ice cream! The line was long but worth the wait. There was a mistake on our order- a member of my party ordered huckleberry ice cream and was given huckleberry cheesecake instead. When we brought the mistake to the workers attention, they apologized but did not offer to fix it. Luckily the wrong flavors was still delicious! An amazing hidden gem! A friend had told us this was a must go to spot when visiting Mcall! From the front you wouldn't even realize the hidden gem from a small unassuming sign. The menu has pretty much all the favorites and more. The portions are heaping and plentiful! The ice cream is so delicious and creamy. My daughter had birthday cake on a cone and my son had mango sorbet both were amazing! Our niece had a sundae and it was devoured. Such a treat that goes perfectly with the vibe of the town. With many trips over the years to McCall this was my family's first time getting ice cream at the Ice Cream Alley. Its usually been closed (time of year). But, this time they were open and it was BUSY. Waited in line for 45 minutes or so to give this a try. I tried the mint chocolate chip milkshake and it was ok. What one would expect from a milk shake and a healthy size for the price. The rest of the family had single scoop cones which was more than enough ice cream for the average person. Pros: - Price - Very affordable. Family of 4 under $20. - Portion Size - One scoop will do you. You can also half that to try different flavors. Cons: - Long Wait. Other than portion size not sure that the ice cream really stood out from anywhere else that might offer ice cream. - Cash or Check Only - There were at least 6 people behind us in the hour long line that backed out once they finally hit the fence because they saw the cash/check only sign. Not sure that the lost business is really worth not taking on the additional transaction fees for credit cards. I am a rewards churner and I rarely carry cash so this is a huge downer for me. Luckily, I had cash this time. Overall, good ice cream at great prices. I'm sure we will stop by again on our visit to McCall. Best ice dream you can find in an alley! BIG NOTE: CASH ONLY!!!!! We waited in a very long line in the pouring rain. It was so cold but we had heard it was worth it so we sucked it up. We were not disappointed. Girls working were so nice even with the crazy line and weather. We got scoops and milkshakes. The local berry is great! Ice cream scoops were generous and very freshly made tasting. Parking in alley or on street. Entry is one way in to order and one way out into the main road from the take out window. It looked like there may be seating around the courtyard but due to covid it was blocked off. Make this a must stop on your trip to McCall! We can't wait to return! Over the years I have discovered that I rather enjoy this place. Another way to say it would be that a visit to McCall isn't complete with stopping by this place! They have excellent ice cream, and the one I always gravitate to is the huckleberry. I can get a small size on a waffle cone and be satisfied, the scoops are mountainous. They take scooping ice cream seriously, much like myself. No wimpy scoops here! I have found their vanilla to be good as well, but for some reason the huckleberry is my favorite. I have compared it to the Tillamook with more huckleberry in it--considering the smoothness and density of Tillamooks. The ice cream is hearty, thick, and delicious! read more

After waiting in line for about twenty minutes we were only a few customers away from ordering. Unfortunately, I saw what happened behind the scenes. One of the "scoopers" had an obvious congestion issue and was wiping her face frequently. She was handling the cones with one hand while using her bare thumb to push the ice cream off the scoop onto the cone. Hopefully she just had allergies and not anything serious. In either case, too gross for us--we walked away.... Management should address this issue to make sure their employees understand and adhere to proper health practices. I stopped by with ladies from our church while we were in town for our retreat. Someone has heard lots of good things about this ice cream stand, said it was a must-go. While waiting to order, I saw someone came out with a foot-tall ice cream on a waffle cone and we were told that's 3 scoops! My goodness. Their scoop is huge. One kid's school is equivalent to a regular scoop out there. I ordered a half Rocky Road and a half strawberry. The strawberry has actually fruit in there, and the ice cream are not too sweet. One is enough to share but not as fun ;) Hygiene isn't a top priority - no gloves for the workers scooping ice cream (their hands had ice cream all over), the workers had their hair in braids and as they bent over the hair was touching the ice cream, and one girl worker itched her nose and then continued to scoop ice cream. After going to Ice Cream Alley 7 or 8 times now, I definitely recommend it. My biggest recommendation is to get a waffle cone or a cup because if you go with the smaller cones, it's going to be messy. They just can't contain the sizes of scoops that you get here. Can you fault a place for having long lines and being popular? If so, I'd subtract a star, LOL. Expect a line, this is the hot spot in town, but it's worth the wait. People watch and enjoy the laughter as everyone gets a larger than life cone. The portions are HUGE, a single scoop will do, I suggest getting a cone AND putting the entire thing into a cup, otherwise these big portions are an accident waiting to happen. We saw a few brave ice cream lovers get a double scoop and try to eat it without a safety net (cup) and in a few cases we saw large portions of ice cream hit the ground - NOOOOOO!! Honestly, it didn't matter because the portions are still gigantic and even with some falling off there was plenty more to eat. The staff is all youthful and fun, make sure you put a tip in one of the jars. Big decision with your tip, will you go with the BSU or the U.of I. tip jar? LOCALS HINT: If you are not one for lines, consider Payette Dream Coffee House which is just around the corner. When they say mountain high scoops they are not kidding!! We got 3 single scoop waffle cones for $12!!! What a deal! The line is long, but totally worth it!!! The lemon pie had pieces of graham cracker crust. The other combination we got was peanut butter cup with esspresso explosion. The peanut butter cup had lots of PB chunks.
