On May 3rd my dryer went out. I called Excel Appliance Service and Dennis E Newberry answered. He asked the make and model and of my appliance and informed me that he could be over shortly to repair the dryer. Mr Newberry arrived at 1:00pm and he quickly deduced the issue as being the heating element. With surgical precision he took apart the dryer, explaining the whole time why and what he was doing. Our oven started to recently not heat up at all. We can smell the gas, but there was no flame. As usual, I searched on Yelp for a local business with good reviews and I came across Excel Appliance Service. When I called them, Dennis (the owner) picked up right away and actually had availability to stop by our place after work. Dennis was very friendly and eager to serve, and very knowledgeable. What a great company! They were able to come out within a few days to look at my dryer and within 10 minutes of arriving (they called when they were on the way and were on time) found the problem. About 30 minutes later, it was fixed! Our service technician even asked for a vacuum so he could clean everything while the dryer was apart. I was truly impressed! Definitely call Excel! I called a different service intially and was quoted over $1100 to fix an electrical panel for my Zephyr hood. I thought that sounded very high so I reached out to Zephyr and they recommended Excel. I was able to get a technician out quickly and it was only a faulty switch and new bracket needed for $173 total. Ask for Dennis- he is honest and goes out of his way to help. Dennis was great! It's always so nice when you find an honest, qualified company and contractor - it doesn't happen often. We had a great experience with Dennis - he provided the most reasonable estimate to replace our front loading washer drum and went with him based on the great yelp reviews. He came the next day, replaced the drum, cleaned out the gunk underneath the old one, and gave us really good advice on things we can do to keep the washer clean such as cleaning the dispenser. On the same visit, we asked him to look at our oven that stopped warming. He quickly diagnosed the issue as an igniter problem, had the part on hand and fixed that for us on the same trip! After having a tech in my home to tell me I needed to fix the fuse in my Bosch microwave, the insurance company could not find the parts and therefore issued a replacement. Once I could finally get a new microwave delivered and the company back out to install it, he realized it was just an issue with the plug being in the oven unit below it. I paid him another $100 to 're-plug' it in, and now my oven makes a crazy loud noise! Jen, the owner of the company, did not want to send someone out to look at it without me paying another service fee and didn't even discuss how to satisfy her customer. I would never do business with this company!!!! First they didn't know what was wrong with it and then broke my oven!!! read more

Dennis answered my call on the first ring and was able to come the next day to fix my LG dryer. his quote was so reasonable i didn't bother calling around. based on what i told him he gave me a price for that, which was also reasonable. when he came over, not only was he punctual but very efficient. with a deep cleaning and no new parts he had my dryer purring like a kitten and all it cost was the service call fee. Mr. Newbberry, according to him, was unable to get a part from LG to fix the problem we had with the Washing Machine. He promised to call us back each time i talked with him, but I had to call him at least 3 days after he said he was going to call us. Finally after calling him for 20 days straight, he finally answered his phone and told me LG doesn't have the part to fix my machine. He then told me he would find out the latest incarnation of our model and would find us a wholesale price for the machine (as a way to compensate us for his lack of follow up). After waiting three weeks, I got ahold of him, but he had neither the model number nor could offer us a discounted price. After he promised to call us back the next day, which he didn't, I contacted him 3 days later. I left a message and then (and only then) did he call me back with an updated model number. Personally, I wouldn't even give this man or company a star since the only did was take $95 to do a diagnostic of my washer and then failed to follow thru on fixing the problem. He is the official representative for LG to fix their appliances and he was/is incapable of doing so. read more

Unfortunately, I would not use Excel again nor could I recommend them. I called because the front panel on our refrigerator was not working - no ice, no water, no lights. Dennis arrived and spent 5-10 minutes struggling to get the front panel off. I was certain he was going to crack or break it. When he finally got it off, the panel actually started working. He said there must be a bad connection in the wiring. After fumbling around with the wiring for 10-15 minutes he said it needed a new control panel ($225+). I declined as the panel was working fine and it was clearly a wiring issue. $125 for the service call from a guy who basically did what I could have done, except I don't claim to be an appliance repair expert. read more

I have an LG Washer Dryer. There are only 3 companies certified to do repairs in the area and this one could come in the quickest so I thought why not. Since then I have spent upwards of 900 dollars in repairs and my unit is still not fixed. It became clear the third or fourth time he came out he was just guessing what the problem is. He told me he could return some of the parts that were fine after he put them in and has also stopped responding. I am in the process of reporting him to the better business bureau now. read more
