The economy has nothing to do with haircut prices going up. U r not using any products just the same scissors & your time. So I kindly request that she credit me $30 back. For nearly ten years, I've been loyally making the long drive to Newark for this team, who does an incredible job working on my hair color so my hair remains healthy and the balayage looks fresh for years until it literally grows out and I repeat the process. I recently visited this salon and Kelly took care of me. I showed her a clear reference photo for a soft layered haircut and light brown looking color. Unfortunately, the result didn't meet my expectations. The hair color turned out significantly darker (black) than what I had asked for, and it lacked the dimension and lighter tones shown in the reference. I was told that box hair dyes are every Salon artists worst nightmare . The box hair dyes especially in the color black is an extremely difficult color to lift/lightened. Given the challenge, Kim was able to lift/lightened my hair to this color with one 1 session! That is truly amazing! I have been looking for a go to salon for awhile in the area - I finally found one yesterday when I got my hair done at Excellent hair Salon with Kim. I called ahead to see if I could get a consultation - Kathy picked up the phone and happily ensured me to stop by before closing at 7pm. After work, I stopped by and was debating what color and style I wanted to go for. Kim examined my hair and did a strand test, then gave me couple of options to work with. She showed me some pictures and explained what would work best for me. She's phenomenal with the colors and is great and matching colors as well as with mixing colors to create a unique look for YOU. This review is for Kayla. My hair was up to my tailbone when I went to her for a haircut. In my Instagram communication with her I sent her pictures she had on her IG, of the style I wanted. She cut off 50% of my hair. I didn't ask for half my length to be cut. I asked her for long layers, and provided her with inspiration cuts that she has on her Instagram. My hair was already cut like the inspiration hair but it was outgrown. She took the crown of my hair and cut it one length. Half my head is one length. Also, the bottom of my hair is splitting, I was told it was because of dull scissors and the way she cut my hair. The layers are disconnected and not blended. I've went to three different salon's as my hair is ruined, each salon said my hair is not fixable unless they cut more length off and each salon was confused to why she took my crown and cut it one length. Ive never had extensions but I was told to get clip in extensions or regular extensions while my hair grows because half my hair is one length. I found Excellent Hair on IG, and it seems like they have a lot of inspiration pictures of hair "Guy Tran" cuts, not actual hair they cut. I thought I was going to a professional hair salon. Kayla refused to give me the owners number as my hair is so bad. I can't wear my hair straight nor can I curl it. Right after she cut my hair, she turned me around so I wasn't facing the mirror. She blow dried my hair and then curled. She never showed me how she cut my hair before styling it. I told her immediately it was too short. I didn't realize how bad the layers / cut was until the next day and when I washed it. I contacted her immediately and sent her pictures. I paid her $120 to ruin my hair. Maybe she's good with color , but she is not good with cutting hair. My appointment was for 6 pm and she was done before 7pm. I messaged a lady named Kim as Kayla is tagged in some pics and I never got a respond. If you look at their five star reviews most don't have pictures. And, on IG Kayla has pictures of people's hair she didn't cut. I didn't read the hashtags. I do not recommend this salon at all. It's going to be years before my hair grows out. read more

Came here cuz I needed a haircut. Only availability was with Kayla, I figured everyone at the salon was good so I just booked it with her. I just wanted a trim anyway. I told her I wanted long layers and to keep the length. She told me my hair was very dry and needed to cut off a lot of it. She showed me what she was going to cut but she definitely cut more than what I asked for. To be fair, Kayla did a good job washing my hair. She gave me a nice head massage. Also, I was happy when I left the salon. However, when I got home the next day I realized how much I did not like my haircut. Peep the photos for evidence. It is so choppy. And also to be fair, when I called to try to get it fixed, Kayla was open to coming in earlier to fix it for me. However, I just didn't feel it was right for me to go back in fear that even more will be chopped off. I will have to wear my hair up for a while. This is the reason why I give them 3 stars. Kayla was very nice and open to fixing my hair but I just didn't feel comfortable going back. This is a review purely based on the haircut. Honestly wish I never came here. Terrible experience... Came in for a haircut, bleach, and tone and walked out with wet partially bleached hair. About 45 mins-1 hour of Kevin bleaching my hair he stops and tells me I have to go brown... when my hair is already blonde and I came in to get the top part (roots area) touched up. No apology or explanation on why, just that I couldn't go blonder like the reference photo HE chose. After a confusing conversation with him and Kim, they told me that they couldn't use their method of bleaching hair on me since my previous baby lights made it too hard. If I went blonder or stay at my current level of blonde, the transition in my natural hair to the blonde would not look good. After letting them know numerous times that I don't want to go brown, they said they can stop the bleaching and just tone it to the same level I already have in my hair. Worried about the bleach already in my hair I asked how much the toner would be and Kevin stated it would be $200. So not only would I not be getting my roots touched up, but I would have to pay $200 for a color I don't even want (and then pay another salon to fix it afterwards). I was so upset at this point that I left right after he washed out the bleach, not even knowing what it looked like. While this entire ordeal was extremely unprofessional, the fact that I had an in person consultation with Keven before coming in to get my hair done makes it even worse. I came in, he looked over my hair, told me what we could do, and picked out a reference photo. When he told me about how their method wouldn't work on my hair I asked why I wasn't told this during the consultation or at least before he started bleaching my hair. Unexpectedly, both Kevin and Kim shrugged it off and said he didn't realize my hair wasn't fit for their technique and recommenced I go brown, let it grow out, and then come back to them to get it back to blonde. At this point I was dumbfounded since isn't that the whole point of a consultation?! To see my hair and what can be done to it. The cherry on top of all of this is that Kevin gave me a haircut before bleaching. I asked for face framing layers, long layers all around and chin length curtain bangs (which he agreed to). I came out with hair 1-2 inches shorter than I wanted, layers ALL around my head, and no curtain bangs. After going to a different stylist, she told me that they didn't even cut it evenly and had to fix the haircut for me. To end this awful experience I had to pay $80 for a less than mediocre haircut. They did not say sorry once, comp any of it, or seem to find anything wrong with what they did. While this salon may appear to be great, I cannot emphasize how deeply they aren't. Unprofessional and unapologetic is all I can say. I do not recommend going to this salon. read more

Been coming here since June 2017. I just wanted to update how my hair has been since then! I have gotten lighter and lighter (see more pics)!Guys, you do have to understand that it will take a long time to get your hair super light. Unless you want to damage it. Also, I take good care of my hair. 1-3 times a week Olaplex treatment. And no more over the counter shampoos and conditioners. Purple or blue shampoo in between salon visits. Lena has been my stylist since I started going to this salon. She is so sweet and kind. Honestly, all them there are super sweet and kind. Kim, Lynn, Kayla and Kelly! Such great people! That is why I don't mind going all the way to Newark from Walnut Creek. And I also don't mind spending 8-10+ hours there when I get my hair lightened. Keep in mind that great work takes time. And that is why I take care of my hair in between visits. Btw, not all of my sessions are 8-10 hours. It's less when I am only doing roots and retoning. I have also learned so much about hair coloring/lightening. Please be reminded that the photos they post are not a one time session kind of results. And it most likely took them at least 8 hours to do. I suggest to have an open mind when you come in for your consultation and your first appointment. The staff there will tell you honestly if the color you want will work on your hair or not. Also, each and everyone's hair is different. The picture I wanted will never look exactly the same as my hair will because that girl has different hair. Keepn and open mind! I love Kim and Kayla so far :]. Years of expertise and love for the arts of hair coloring. Who doesn't love the color theory?

I originally requested Kim, but she is not taking any new clients so Kayla dyed my hair and did a fantastic job. Because of COVID, they are only taking appointments so call ahead for a consultation if you are a new customer. They charge $20 to test your hair if you colored before. If you would like to move forward to dye your hair, you have to put a $100 deposit and book your appointment. They tend to be booked for at least a month out unless there are cancellations. Also they charge additional 3% if you use card so bring cash. In total the appointment was 9 hours long, but I did have dark virgin hair that does not pick up color/lighten very well. Kayla was very communicative throughout the process and dedicated to make sure the color was right. It originally turned out more gray than I liked, so she happily took more time to add more dye to achieve the final look. Also, my layers were a little chunky so she texturized the ends to make it more seamless. Overall, it turned out even more beautiful than I expected and the Olaplex treatment made my hair so soft despite the bleach. It was a little pricey even with short hair, but the results are worth the splurge. In total it was $450 for the color and treatment. Haircut was $80 to cut my butt length hair to a long bob. No matter what stylist you get, they are dedicated to one coloring appointment per day so you will receive 100% of their attention. read more

WOW! I can't say how much I enjoyed getting my hair done at this place! Their service and technique definitely holds up to their name Excellent Hair Salon! I would recommend making a morning appointment if you are thinking of having a major transformation! My hair took around 10 hours!! They are upfront about their pricing. Most other salons will only give you a base price or will not completely disclose how much your hair will cost till the very end. Their pricing is extremely reasonable for the amount of time and effort they put into your hair ~~ Before making an appointment, you need to go into the store to GET YOUR HAIR TESTED. What I mean by that is, they will pick out a could strands of your hair, add bleach to it, use aluminum foil and a straightener (to add heat), to see how easy your hair lifts (how easy your hair changes color ). During this time, you will be able to tell/show them your inspirations, and get a price quote. When I first went in, Jim, my stylist, asked me what I wanted to do with my hair. He then went over what he would be doing, and then started bleaching my hair. While we were waiting for the bleach to process, the stylists were playing movies on the TV. After the bleaching, they washed my hair, colored it, treated it, and then gave me a haircut. The whole process took around 10 hours (this includes the picture taking time). I got so many compliments on my hair after it was done :) and even though the blue didn't last too long, it faded to a very nice silver color! I came in with just one inspiration picture (which can be tough because they only get one angle and that's all they got to work with!) and no idea what hair color technique would be needed to accomplish it. But I was in good hands - Kayla knew what she needed to do! This was the biggest thing I've ever done to my hair and she made me feel so comfortable by explaining what she was going to do, being upfront about the cost, and asking about my preferences (cut style, length, color warmth, and maintenance style). To accomplish the look, she did long layers and foilyage, which was about ~5 hour process in total. I've been waiting for a long time to become a client of Kim's and today I finally got my first hair cut. It was 100% worth the wait!! The salon is very chic. Kim is very kind, sweet and personable. I got a shampoo/haircut/blowout. She spent a good amount of time washing my hair and even gave me a little head and neck massage..it was sooo relaxing. Im a licensed Cosmetologist in CA and this is unacceptable on my first app Kelly and Kim(owner) were joking about how dumbs blondes are and made a joke then told me you're not blonde enough bc I knew the joke. I felt like that wasn't ethical 2nd app went to Kelly and she really messed up my hair she over processed my hair , which Kim said that was inevitable.. excuse me ? That was negligence of not checking on my hair every x amount of minutes, she let the foils sit for more than an hour without checking them to the point where my hair was completely falling out. she didn't give me a shadow root so my hair is very blotchy , in general looks horrible which again the owner said that Kelly told me that would happen , she never stated that hair will be over processed, blotchy and will have chunks of hair coming out. Kelly was straightening my hair with very high temperature where the smoke coming out of my hair was extreme so I told her to stop , I guess they thought I was blonde enough to not notice the damage they caused and now I have to pay $2899 for extensions plus treatments save some of my hair and cover all the mess she left me .They did refund me but had me go in person to the salon 1 hour 45 min away which i told Kim it was far but still went when i got there in order to give me my $ back they had me signed a release of reliability so I won't go financially against anyone in the salon. they didn't give me a receipt that by law they should've even if it's cash. read more
