Well I was looking for a shop to service my Benz. There pricing was decent for the maintenance I had done, Unfortunately, they noticed some repairs that were needed And I pointed some things that were not working optimally. He attempted to work with my warranty company. Full disclosure, he did tell me he has not dealt with warranty companies in the past. Regarding my concerns with AC and window washer not working. Diagnostics was off. Regarding changing seals ti crank shaft and reseal casing. He was unable to make a case to my warranty company. He Quoted me: "Dealer will ask for $4000. I'll do it for $2400. I got a second option from the dealership. They charge $1680. I found a great shop that works with warranty companies and they made a case for the repairs and the warranty company covered everything including new ac condenser, motor mounts and repairs of crank shaft seals. I wound recommend exclusive motors for basic maintenance needs. They were really pleasant to work with it was Just unfortunate situation of misdiagnosis and lack of experience working with warranty companies and I suppose not knowing pricing. Give them a try maybe my experience was an outlier. No bad feelings from my end. For you Mercedes (W211) Owners out there read this. One of the most common problems that occur with this series is the display of the "SOS Tele-Aide" (analog) Malfunction Light that appears every time you turn on the ignition. The reason for this could be one of many things but the main reason is because once everything turned digital from analog the MBZ computer thinks it is a malfunction and this light goes on. Quite irritating but it really does not really represent any malfunction at all. In fact in order to turn it off all you have to do is press the upper arrow on the steering wheel and voila... it disappears! However having to do this every time you turn on the ignition can be quite tedious and you can also wear out the arrow imprinted on the button. If you look at MBZ Blogs there are many possible solutions that can ameliorate this problem. For example simple things like turning the ignition key but not cranking it, turning on the headlights for 2 mins then turning off the ignition key and lights and supposedly the malfunction display would disappear.(this didn't work for me) The other quick fix was to take off the drivers side rear left trunk panel exposing the cables and circuit splicer. You would then clean off the corrosion off the splicer (and or cables leading to the antenna) using a toothbrush, Q-Tips and rubbing alcohol, being careful not to damage the male and female connectors of the circuit splicer. The corrosion is due to a design flaw by MBZ on the (W211) models that causes moisture to come down the antenna cable causing the corrosion.(rain/car washes) Now I was about to get this done but after searching and speaking to numerous (5) Independent MBZ Technicians.Only one of these Independent MBZ Technicians could do the repair but could not give me a warranty on the work just in case the light went on again! (OMG) So I decided to bite the bullet and go to one of the local MBZ Dealers. Yes they are nice and yes you get a "FREE" car wash to boot!...(yeah right) I knew the correct way to stop this malfunction light was to use an expensive MBZ Computer called the "STAR Diagnosis System" that supposedly only the dealers have. But to my surprise the Service Tech of local MBZ Dealer spoke to the their Top Supervising MBZ Tech and he advised me that it could not be done! I found this to be unbelievable if not incompetent.(OMG II) I knew darn well it could be done. The Dealers as I expected wanted to scalp you and sell you a new digital upgrade for over $900 if your lucky and that's not counting a $245 year subscription. This was NOT GOING TO HAPPEN! So I did more research and came across EXCLUSIVE MOTORS in Placentia. I spoke on my cell with the Owner Ron Erickson who has been an MBZ Technician since 1980. He was quite knowledgeable of my specific problem and he had a sincere desire to help me. He was quite cordial, empathetic and quite honest. Ron really has a passion for Mercedes and Lexus Vehicles and did not like what he had seen done to customers that were taken advantage of while working as an MBZ Tech at a local MBZ Dealership. So in 1988 he opened his own Independent Service from scratch... Exclusive Motors Mercedes Benz/Lexus Motors. I was quite impressed with Ron in speaking with him as well as reviewing all the positive testimonials of the service he provides. His Automotive Knowledge is quite immense and his service center was immaculate and modern. Ron even had the "STAR Diagnosis System" that only the MBZ Dalerships were only suppose to have!(Man those Dealerships...sounds like a monopoly!) I made an appointment and brought in my MBZ the following morning and by early that afternoon Ron was able to disengage the irritating "SOS Tele-Aide" malfunction display. (OMG III...in a good way) Ron is not only an OUTSTANDING TECHNICIAN but he is truly a MAGICIAN! He was able to do what other MBZ Techs could not do including the ones at the MBZ Dealerships! In addition the price for his services were quite fair and most competitive. It is no wonder why so many of his customers give him kudos and thanks. I am now included in that group! When you are a first time customer Ron also gives you $100 off labor cost. I actually don't know if he gave me that discount but I am so very pleased with the speed and quality of his work on my MBZ along with his honesty that I don't mind at all! Ron is a true professional and I will now take all my other MBZs to him for future maintenance and service. This was my first experience with Exclusive Motors and I will definitely be coming back! I recently bought an 8-year old Lexus that only had 23K miles on it (amazing, I know!). I would give them NO stars if I could.. I feel like Ron lied to me by saying the part I need is no longer available! And it would cost me $3,000. He charged me $150 for not even checking the car out when he said he did! The reason I took my car to Ron is b/c the ASR light came on (automatic safety restraint) I also requested a few other things to be done. So, then Gosh called me the next day to tell me they're not going to work on my car anymore. The car is done and too old, blah blah blah. That i need to buy a new car. So, I took it to another mechanic who specializes in Mercedes & he looked it over and told me all it needed was New boots and he would replace & clean throttle body $800. Boom .. Done! My car is running beautifully. It looks great 1994 S500 and runs great! I am not ready to depart from this car yet! Its a classic now. Its not up to them! Maybe they wanted me to buy a car from them too?! Idk. But, What I would like to know is why didnt they just tell me over the phone they didn't want the job in first place? And instead, they said yeah we will check it out for you then charge me $150? Boggles my mind! I mean are they that hard up for a $150? They must not be getting much business! Well, anyways, its their loss NOT mine. I was a loyal customer to them for years! I just want people to know what happened dealing with this auto mechanic. Such a disgrace! Look else where. ...Took my car in for a slight rattle on the drivers side rear Ron said it was the catalytic convertor which I accepted, I was a 30 year customer and trusted him even although I didn't see him test drive the car! The next day I went online to find out the signs are of this.....loud noise when turning on engine due to INTERIOR disintegration , getting worse over time, no loud noise and the rattle had come and gone over several weeks and everyone who heard it said something loose, engine light which was working hadn't come on and I had passed the smog test 3 weeks prior I went to talk to Ron he was out, spoke to Josh and asked about this and why Ron said it was the convertor, he didn't know. When I went to pick up the car Ron came out shaking a catalytic convertor but the noise he was making was NOT coming from any loose disintegrated interior but from the large heavy collar on the outside that he was banging around and I had no way of knowing if this was from my car! He drove my car up and I could hear the rattle I had brought my car in for and told him so, his then said I needed shocks costing $2500...I was shocked! He had done work that I was pretty certain was unnecessary and now was telling me the rattle was shocks! I went to two other shops who checked the shocks and said they were fine! One shop said it was the sway bar which probably had a loose bracket, turned out to be so and which he tightened, checked the other side, no parts, cost $ 149.00, no $2500.00 shocks needed! First I want to note that Exclusive motors was recommended by Haydon Bros just down the street. I took my Mercedes here to have a leak fixed. The quick visual diagnoses given to me was that the injector pump seals needed to be replaced. After picking up the car I got home and noticed it was still leaking and still wet underneath. I was told that the technician working on the car did not follow the proper procedures that Exclusive Motors has in place which was that the wet areas should have been cleaned. From my basic knowledge of mechanics everything should have been cleaned before to be able to diagnose and track down the leak so not only was it not cleaned before to correctly find the leak but it was not cleaned at all. I took the car back here for a 2nd time so they could properly finish the job. I was then told that the wet areas have been cleaned, the car was driven several miles up and down Orangethorpe and that it looked good but that it could be leaking from somewhere else on the injector pump and to drive it for a week and bring it back. After picking the car up for the 2nd time I noticed right when I stopped in my driveway it had been cleaned but was still leaking. I brought it back for a 3rd time. I was told that this leak is difficult to track down and that several other seals including seals on the engine block may need replacing and that it will cost another $1,100. I understand that the leak may not be an easy fix but that is exactly why I took the car to a professional. The end result is that I paid $534 plus the inconvenience of my time taking it here 3 times and my car is still leaking. Won't be going back here unless the company wants to make this right. read more
