I believe the shop is family owned and they have always been pleasant and helpful. I bought the best vacuum I have ever owned (a Miele!) with their advise. Most technicians in the area from my experience are only interested in one thing, and that's maximizing their profits at all costs. These guys are different. Expert Appliance is concerned with satisfying their customers. If a part can be fixed, they will fix it. If a part had to be replaced, they will replace it. You get somebody from Expert center and they do an absolute shoddy installation job on an over the range microwave which should be the simplest thing in the world and THEY SCREW IT UP. Not only that but when you point it out they tell you that it will cost extra to fix the "screw up". Please take my sincere advice, and get somebody else. Its not even a matter of money bcuz they are charging market rates and no less, so really go out and get somebody else from a reputable place like Sears, homedepot, best buy or others for installation and repair so in case something goes wrong, you have some recourse and perhaps a refund. I called them when my SubZero began having problems, and they sent out two repairmen the next day. Notice that I'm in Manhattan, they're in Brooklyn -- no problem. They were extremely polite, fixed the problem at a reasonable charge and explained the repair to me in terms I could understand. They also showed me other things I could do to help maintain the refrigerator, which I especially appreciated as previous repairmen (from other, less careful companies) had never done this. This store says they repair stereos, but actually they don't. Please don't waste your time and money (as I did) by taking stereo equipment to this store. The guy behind the desk asks for $20 just to look at your gear. I phoned the store a number of times, but waiting for my stereo amp to be repaired was like waiting for Godot. I have not used this company but called and was treated so horribly over the phone when I attempted to ask a few simple problems. Was cut off and not allowed to even finish my question. I was attempting to describe the problem with my vacuum cleaner before I toted it downstairs and 12 blocks over to this shop. The person I spoke to was insolent and rude and said that I needed to talk to the tech but didn't want to tell me when the tech would be there nor would he has the tech call me back. Thomas just fixed my GE slim profile dishwasher. Really fast. Really friendly. Someone was scheduled to come to my place around 5-7pm. He was here at 5:15. Love that I didn't haveto twittle my thumbs waiting for service (Time Warner, I hate you). Anyhow, Thomas quickly diagnosed the problem. It was a pump motor issue and he found a piece of ceramic that was affecting my motor. All the while he didn't mind me watching whathe was doing. Able to strike a conversation about real estate while he was working. Overall, I was very impressed with the service. An addition - had GE replace the filter provided by the Expert Center. The GE genuine part was almost 50% cheaper, and was professional installed and the entire problem I had was because of the incorrect filter suppleid that did not fit right and caused the drip/leak. read more

These guys are a breath of fresh air! It is really hard nowadays to find a local family business that applies, not only friendly service , but exceptional high-quality results. I visited numerous appliance stores throughout New Jersey, including the big guys such as Sears, and none of them could fix my Viking appliances. It only took one service call from their technician Alex, and he was was able to get my Viking refrigerator up and running after only an few hours work. The so called "experts" at these other places, either fixed it inadequately, or told me it was impossible to fix and that I should buy a new product from them. Let me tell you, the only experts in this area work at Expert Appliance. So happy they moved right down the road from my house. I have always had a good experience with this business. When my Whirlpool drier stopped heating, the technician diagnosed the problem as the igniter slipping out of alignment, and repositioned it. The charge, a little less than $200, wasn't cheap but didn't seem out of line with what a service call and a half-hour of labor should cost. A month later--the day after Christmas--it stopped working again; they responded the same day, replaced the igniter and charged nothing, for either the call or the part. I wanted to like these guys - they seemed knowledgeable when they came out to initially give me a diagnosis of what was wrong with my dishwasher. Then, they completely dropped the ball - for 7 months! I followed up with them no less than 5 times, because they had told me that the DW motor needed to be replaced. Each time, I was told by someone that the manager/owner would call me back. And each time, he was extremely apologetic about the lack of follow through. Finally, I just gave up. If you want a repair completed in a reasonable amount of time this is NOT the place to use. I brought them my Margaritaville drink machine to have repaired in June. Four weeks later they still had not even looked at it to give me an estimate. I called every week the first two weeks and then almost every other day the last two weeks because I needed it for the July 4th weekend. They made excuses every time I called. They took care of the repair but in the process damaged the washing machine pan. I was not offered a new pan or that they would install. Actually I was told they would not replace the pan or install it. The machine was too heavy. I have a dolly here that I would have gladly let them use and then they would not have cracked the washer pan. Now I will wait and see how long the replacement of the water filler valve lasts. Needless to say I was not happy with the way I was spoken to when I called about the pan. read more

I think this is the first Yelp review I've ever written. But I had such a terrific experience with the Expert Repair Center, I wanted to let others know. I was very surprised to read a number of reviews that aren't positive. I've been a neighborhood customer for years and have gotten to know Alex in the store and have always found his service helpful. But this was the first time I called for an in-home repair for our Miele dishhwasher. Sandro, the technician, arrived promptly as scheduled, had all the tools and replacement parts that were needed, explained things as he worked, and was clean, thorough and delightful to work with. When the intake drain indicator was flashing on our machine, I first called the repair service recommended by the store where the machine was purchased. Even though we had explained the problem, the guy from that company clearly had no idea what to do and wanted to send someone else from the company. That's when we switched to Expert. I would recommend them wholeheartedly. And ask for Sandro, he's a real professional who loves his work. read more

Fraudulent repair service, even criminal. I had a 3 MONTH GUARANTY on my dryer. THREE WEEKS LATER I call because it's not heating. Alex, the idiot dispatcher sends the same repairman from 3 weeks ago. After a ten minute diagnosis he "fixed it". He then asks my worker for $180.00 A GUARANTEE'S A GUARANTEE, ALEX. I refused to pay and the worker disabled my machine on the way out the door. This is how "Expert Repair" operates: Sleazy dispatch - especially Alex - and bad repairs/no repairs. "But pay us $200 anyways or we'lll shut down the machine." But it's okay, Alex- it was a disconnected wire (probably done by the bad repairman), so now after reconnecting...IT WORKS GREAT. Thanks. I would've preferred to buy a new vacuum then to deal with Expert. I was told I would get a call within 2 days after dropping my vacuum off. 5 days later, I had to call to find out what the issues were. I was told that they hadn't looked at the vacuum yet and that they would call me the next day with a quote. Again, I had to call them. I was told what the issues were and the cost. I chose to let them fix the vacuum and they told me it would be ready in a couple of days. 6 days later I went to pick up my vacuum, and it wasn't ready. I had to come back the next day to pick it up. It took 2 weeks to repair my vacuum. The young guy with the funny hairdo who works in the store was very nasty both on the phone and when I went to pick my vacuum. I think he's the owners son, and feels that he can be nasty because daddy won't do anything to him. I will never go there again, and only recommend it to people I don't like. read more

I had a very bad experience with Expert Repair Center. My tenant's freezer broke, so I hired them to check it out. A technician came but said he would need a second visit, which cost my tenant another day off from work. After the second visit, ERC charged me $200 for isolating the problem but didn't follow up to discuss subsequent repairs. After a delay, I scheduled a third visit on a weekday between 1-4PM for my tenant, who used another vacation day to be at home. But the technician missed the appointment window, and no one at ERC contacted me or the tenant to let us know they would be late. This was important because the building super was supposed to assist the technician to move the refrigerator. I had to call ERC to ask what was going on. When the technician finally arrived, he promptly broke a water line to the refrigerator and told the tenant there wasn't anything else he could do. That was 24 hours ago. Since then, no word from ERC, no explanations, nothing -- I'm done with them. From the outset, ERC made me feel like a secondary, less-important customer. I had to initiate every phone conversation with them, and they never provided any invoices for their work, despite my requests. As a small-business owner myself, if I drop the ball, I do everything in my power to make things right for my customers. I wish ERC followed a similar policy. Hire at your own peril. read more

The ice maker in my refrigerator was leaking and I could not stop it from making ice. Alex came out and explained that it would be $300 to replace the valve and repair the ice maker. We decided to have him just replace the valve. Approx $40-$50 online still cost me $225. After several hours, the hoses were hooked up backwards so when we attempted to dispense water it would shoot out into the ice maker. Alex stated he just needed to reverse the hoses. Everything appeared to be working. The ice maker never made ice again. Several days later Alex returned and refused to take responsibility for his work.His explanation was that it was a coincidence and the ice make breaking had nothing to do with his work.The fact that he would not stand behind his work was quite upsetting. Unfortunately I would not recommend this company because if they don't fix it the first time they will expect you to pay again. read more
