I freaking LOVE how Bona did my hair today! I have felt "little kid excited" ever since I left the salon. My husband said, "WOW! You look luminous." (Normally it would take him an hour to figure out what I did to my hair and then I'd get a "it looks very nice honey") I came in with a picture and Bona knew exactly what I wanted and how to get there. Look, highlighting is not what it used to be. There's toners and additives and root smudging. Oh and because of our recent lockdown, many of us had taken it upon ourselves to do our own hair. So now there's now extra color correction stylists are dealing with. Bona did it all at a reasonable price. Well worth it! Plus, she was so fun to talk with. Just made me feel comfortable the entire time. The entire staff was gracious and you can tell they have much appreciation for each other as well. Ever since I've been with expose salon, I've been very happy . They are so layed back and very easy going, plus they are All so nice. Leslie does my cut and color every time and does a great job. She knows by now exactly how I like both my cut and color. I especially love how Leslie does my layers , and always so happy with the over all look. She is very down to earth and very easy to talk to She is truly a real sweet and funny person. At this point and going forward, I plan on sticking with Leslie and only her. I feel like I just got robbed. You would too if you were charged almost double what you were quoted for a service. This salon just charged me $106 when they quoted me $58 at the time I made the appointment. When I called I was told that a root touch up (single color) was $40 and that a hair blowout was $18. So even if they had decided to charge me a little extra because they had to use extra color (they didn't) or because my hair is extra long (it's not), I certainly didn't expect to pay $48 more than originally quoted. When I asked that they provide me with an itemized receipt they flatly refused and only agreed to hand write the amounts on the receipt (attached): $58 for a root touch up and $48 for the blow dry. Even Drybar doesn't charge this much for just drying your hair (they charge $45 for a simple style). Let me clarify that they did NOT style my hair. All they did is dry it. Then the front desk person proceeds to tell me that they charge the same for a blow dry as they do for a haircut (which I did not get) whether you get a haircut or not. This would have been nice if they had disclosed that when I called to book the appointment. They did NOT disclose this information. The front desk person (Talia) kept alluding to the fact that she's not the one who booked my appointment, as if this somehow was a good excuse for overcharging me. Every employee at a salon should have the same information. So, no, it's not okay to just claim you are not the one who didn't give me the "correct" information at the time of booking the appointment. And apparently it was up to the stylist who did my hair (Bona) to set the price she felt like charging. I don't mind paying a little more for good service but I do take issue with a business that deceives a customer and overcharges in this manner. Never going back. read more

I went to Exposed for a simple wash and blow dry after having surgery. I'm unable to use my left arm at all and I just needed a good wash. I hate to say this but I went in with low expectations because no one ever does a good job drying my hair - I always end up with huge hair. Michael washed and dried my hair and the blow dry was phenomenal! He didn't load up my hair with hair product and it looked perfect! This place is a big old NOPE. Awful service. I had an appointment six weeks ago. Got to my appointment 10 minutes early only for the stylist to take me 20 minutes after my appointment time. I got a rushed cut that was nowhere near what I wanted, it was basically a trim. I made another appointment for six weeks later because a) I wanted to get my hair cut NOT trimmed and b) the stylist was very nice so I chalked it all up to her having a bad day. I called two weeks later to cancel the appointment because something came up. Yesterday, the day of the now cancelled appointment comes and someone from the salon calls me and this is their exact phone demeanor: Salon: Hi, you had an appointment that was to start 13 minutes ago, what's going on? Me: Who is this? Salon: Exposed Me: Well, I cancelled the appointment several weeks ago. Had someone called within the last 24 hours to confirm appointments like every salon does, you would have known this. Salon: OK and then she hung up on me. Do not go here. Ever. Had a great cut a few months back! I went with a friend and we were both very, very pleased with our cuts. The prices are also very reasonable. Now, I have gotten my hair cut and styled at a lot of places. A few family members began going to Exposed because it was so close to where we live. There really are a million places to get your hair cut in the suburbs, but this place had just opened and the decorating of the salon was very cool so I also eventually stopped in. The cuts were always great, but soon I went away to college and just never made it back in. A few weeks ago I needed a really good hair cut and didn't feel like driving all the way down to the city to the place I have been going for a few months. So, I knew what to do, call up Exposed and try and get an appointment with Anna. She was booked as I expected, but they took my name and promised to call if they had a cancellation. Here I am again, with another update. I went in for some fashion color highlights (pink and turquoise!), a haircut, and some products I was running low on. I got there early, and as usual, the place was hopping. I must have seen 4 or 5 people leave, all with smiles, and I think a few people winked at themselves in the mirror.....HA! I was in the salon for a few hours-----but I knew that was going to happen, as I had bleach, color, and a cut to get. At no point in time was I sitting around waiting for someone to do something for me----I was being worked on every minute (save the few moments under the dryer that I needed for processing) and despite my difficult request, Anna, Katie, and Megan made it happen. My insane idea for color and placement came out exactly as I had pictured it. Again. After the "big reveal" I started my product shopping. They have a very good selection of Bed Head cosmetics, and their eyebrow pencil is one of my MUST haves. Checkout was a breeze, and my next appointment is booked. read more

Based on Yelp reviews, I called Exposed Salon to book a drastic change to my hair. I was tired of long, unruly busy-mom hair and wanted something short and sporty and bright. Jenee took plenty of time to go over color choices, cut and maintenance of my new do. She was vigilant about the bleach time for my new bold purple highlights and called in other stylists to assist. They did so happily and when I left, I looked FABULOUS (and still do). Most of the staff was covered in purple dye though lol, but they didn't mind at all. I moved to lombard recently and have been struggling to find a reasonably priced, high quality salon. Tried Mario tricoci in yorktown because of the reputation. They were way over priced for the not so exciting cut and color I received. So I decided to hit up yelp. I was able to get an appointment within 2 hours for a cut and color. I had Jenee, who has been there for about 4 years. She was great. She matched my colors perfectly and gave me a fabulous cut without any instruction. Have not found a salon that I absolutely love until now. Because of its Yelp rating, I called and set up an appointment with Sara. I walked out of that place feeling like a movie star. I expected the paparazzi to be outside waiting; that's how seriously fantastic and gorgeous I felt! I've got a lot of hair, and when I say a lot, I mean I have to use industrial strength rubber bands to hold my hair up in a pony tail. It's also super thick and super straight so on most days, I end up looking like The Ring Girl...except not so muddy. Sara and I decided on side swept bangs and long layers. My hair actually has dimension to it now. I'm completely in love with the new do. Sara also gave me an open invitation to come back if I didn't know how to style my hair after I left; she said that she'd walk me through it as many times as I needed. I'll probably be moving soon and am really sad that I can't take her with me. As for the space that some Yelpers have commented on, yes, it's a smaller salon. The space doesn't bother me. It's not as cramped as some make it out to be. No one is running into each other, and I'm not running into things. Pricing for what I left with was more than reasonable. I usually end up paying more at higher end salons and was never this happy with the results. Would definitely recommend this place over and over again. read more

I was looking for a salon to do my hair and makeup for myself and my wedding party on my wedding day for June 2012. Based on the Yelp reviews and their professional website I called Exposed Salon. I was excited to know they have packages specifically for bridal parties because I wanted a great experience for myself and bridal party overall. I had my makeup and hair trial one week prior to the wedding. I can't remember my hair stylist's name but she was amazing and so sweet. She was also engaged at the time so she was extremely excited to be helping a fellow bride. I also don't remember the lady who did my makeup but she did an equally fantastic job. I am very picky about how my makeup is done. Since I have super fair skin, it is hard to get a foundation that is my skin tone and doesn't make me look orange. She did exactly what I wanted and I felt like a bride! On the big day, I arrived with my bridal party and there was a slight wait. The salon had a bridal party right before us and was just finishing them all up. I loved how everyone's hair and makeup turned out, especially my own! The only thing I wasn't thrilled about this salon is that it is quite tight on the inside. There are a lot of bodies for a small space and it can almost be claustrophobic. As I was sipping a water while getting my hair done I realized that it was covered in hair spray because the ventilation wasn't that good either. I noticed my bridesmaids had the same problem. If you select a package in which they offer champagne for your party while getting your hair done, this could be a major downer. Overall the staff were all super sweet and helpful. Everyone ended up looking gorgeous on the wedding day because of the staff here! I would highly recommend this salon for a bride looking to get hair and makeup for their bridal party. read more

Overall, great trendy haircut and great service! Atmosphere: The salon is small, but intimate. The owner at the front desk has a cute personality and makes you feel welcome. She'll come by and check up on you too. You can tell the hairdressers love working there. Hair color: I have black hair and didn't want my highlights to be red, which is the color it tends to get. The highlights did have a slight red tint, but after a month, it faded into the exact color that I wanted, which was a dark caramel color. Haircut: I wanted a trendy angled bob with the front longer than the back. My hair ended up exactly the way I envisioned it. It was light and flowy, and not too short. Hairdresser: I had Bianca, who was new. She was very in tune with what I wanted and very down-to-earth. I loved how the owner and other hairstylist complimented her work once she was done with me. Good stuff and bad stuff. Good stuff: I got an appointment for a touchup brow wax on pretty short notice. Everyone I dealt with was extremely friendly. My skin didn't break out too badly afterward, and the nice girl who did my brows slapped on some concealer to cover up any redness. Bad stuff: It's crowded in there! I ended up with globs of wax in my hair in several places and no one mentioned it to me, although I'm certain they noticed. $15 for an eyebrow wax is a bit much, especially for a touchup. No one seemed to care if I come back or not, so I don't think I will. read more

I first came to Exposed with my friend Gwen a few years ago since she needed her hair to be trimmed and we were just walk ins. They took her right away. A few weeks later my regular salon in Palatine was moving even farther away and so I decided to try Exposed. Katie cut my hair and it was absolutely perfect. I like to try new things without being too extreme, and she knew exactly what I wanted. After chatting she basically figure out my personality and what I like and my lifestyle and cut my hair to fit! My grandmother also sees Katie! She is a regular there every other Thursday to get her hair touched up. My grandmother likes to try new highlights and Katie always keeps her fashionable and keeps her from having "every other old lady haircut" in the words of my grandma. So not only can Katie cater to a 21 year olds hairstyle and coloring but she does wonders with my over 50 but under 60 grandmother as well (I don't want to put her age because well, I'm sure she'd kill me if she found out I told people!) Every time I am in there it's a great experience, it's always very welcoming. They also are able to take me last minute, my schedule is quite hectic because now I'm a mom and I go to school. Overall, I'd definitely recommend the place, and basically I'd say to see Katie! She's young, fun, and can accommodate anything, as long as you tell her what your ideas are. I had recently moved to the area and have been having a heck of a time finding someone who can cut, not butcher, my coarse, thick, curly locks. Yelp sent me to Exposed. Thank you! I went in for highlights, color touch-up, and a cut with Jasmine. Going in, my hair was a nice auburn with bright red highlights in the crown that had just blended in. I was disappointed in the blending and wanted the same bright, vibrant highlights all over but going "POP! POP!" Jasmine suggested lightning the intended highlighted areas. I am down for whatever so we went that route. When she rinsed out the lightener, we discovered awesome lightened highlights. They served as a very nice contrast to the auburn and the random bright red highlight that was still in there. A little toner and my hair now looks like the color of beautiful autumn leaves. It was unintentional but completely amazing!! Jasmine took some of the weight out and changed the angle of my layering in order to avoid the fun pyramid head look my curls can give. I had gotten a good cut before but when curled I couldn't shake pyramid head so I am excited about this switch. All in all, a fabulous experience. Pro-tip: if you go after 3pm, you can park in the lot right next door otherwise you will be ticketed. read more

I decided to go to Exposed after I read the reviews here on Yelp, and am thrilled with my cut. I have been going to Anna for about 8 months now and positively love the care and attention she gives when listening to what I want, as well as being a courteous, down to earth person. I finally have a great cut for my face shape, and I get compliments on my hair all the time. She also trims my bangs for free between cuts. Underwhelmed. Went in for touch up and hair cut. The stylist took a long time with me, maybe too long. I told her that I wanted my hair color just a bit less blond. Came out brunette - arrgh! The cut was fine but not the drying/styling. She spent a long time on it and my hair was flat and straight -- not at all how I usually wear my hair. It was a very boyish look, but I was so mortified I just wanted to get out of there, get home and style it myself. Also, she used a brush with lots of other peoples hair in it! ugh! These wonderful ladies took care of me even as I lost my hair through cancer treatments and helped me feel like a woman again as it began to regrow. They found color that can be used, offered advise on products and tools to reduce the shed. They supported me all the way! I see Anna, Katie and Jenny for cuts, styles, colors, waxing. I moved to Lombard 1.5 years ago, and I knew I wanted to find a great salon that felt friendly, had great stylists, and reasonably priced. Thank goodness for yelp.com; I found Exposed through other people's reviews! My first appointment at Exposed made me realize right away that I'd be coming back. To be honest, my haircut wasn't quite a miracle (and I don't recall my stylist's name from that visit), but I immediately adored the atmosphere, welcoming attitudes, and camaraderie I saw between the staff members. I was treated very well and left happy. The salon has a colorful, trendy feel to it as well, and I'm all about aesthetics. I made my next appointment with Jasmine, and she was fantastic. Jasmine has the kind of style and personality that I envy. She knows when to be chatty and when it's the right time to have relaxing silence. She is very good at fielding questions and listening to my requests and opinions. I have loved the cuts she's given me, and will definitely go back again soon (my hair is aching for a change!). The price is right (~$35 cut & dry) and I appreciate being able to leave a tip on my credit card. I've also noticed the salon getting involved in the community through events and parties; I dig that! She's done my hair for everything from trims, to color, to my wedding. Exposed is the first salon or hair place that has been good enough for me to make a commitment to. I have thick, curly hair, and I've never met a stylist who could handle it. Exposed can handle it. My stylist actually has my same hair...and she cuts it well. I usually just sit in the chair and give very minimal direction (with cuts or color), and she thinks about it, and then gives me something fabulous. The staff is great. I'm always offered coffee, water, or wine. They have tons of treats during the holidays, and a big party to celebrate the anniversary of the place opening (in May). They always have the products I want (JBeverly Hills), and my stylist is very specific and thoughtful about recommending new products for my style or cut. My out of town sister and out of state former roommates book appointments when they are in. I've also evangelized 3 co-workers into going. Love the place. I have curly hair so I know that I am a challenge for most stylists. I have honestly never found someone that actually understood how to work with my hair. I usually leave a salon totally underwhelmed by the results and pull my hair back into a pony tail as soon as I can. This time was totally different. Unfortunately I was about 15 minutes late for my first appointment with Anna (stupid rush hour), and even though I called ahead to let them know, I was definitely expecting some attitude once I got there. This was definitely not the case. I was greeted with a smile and taken right away to Anna's chair. We talked about what I wanted to do with my hair and I immediately knew that she was going to be different. We discussed in detail how she was going to cut my curls (rather than chop them off in layers so I look like a christmas tree!) She also recommended a great product, and not in the pushy salesy way. I can honestly say that this was the first hair cut that I have had in an extremely long time that I absolutely loved! I definitely have found my new stylist and salon! read more

I started going to Exposed back in 2007, I absolutely love Anna and Jasmine (who cut my daughter's hair). I was a little apprehensive at first because no one was ever able to cut my thick massively curly hair just right. It turns out that Anna's hair is the same way, and she knows just what to do to tame my mane. My sister recommended her salon, and I will never deviate for anything else. To all of the other ladies out there who think Anna's "friends" are the ones writing the reviews, you're right. Once you have a great experience with her, you become a friend not just a client. The salon is in a store front, but so are most businesses in downtown Lombard. The salon is a little small, but I think that makes it more intimate. If you experienced super busy times, go on a different day or an earlier or later time, as Tuesdays and Saturdays are always busy and 4-7pm is the peak time. I always make my appointment for Tuesday at 1:30 and I am usually the only one in there. As for Jasmine, thank you so much for giving my little girl the cut that I have been searching for her to get. I think it has to be because of the connection the two of you had from when you were at TCD, and she was there for pre-school. You already had a bond and that made her more comfortable in the chair. I can't say enough about the place. I called at 9:06am and was taken within the hour. Loren, the receptionist, worked hard to get me in. Luckily for me, Megan was my stylist. I let her do whatever was necessary to fix the horrible cut i had from another salon. She listened to my few guidelines and she was off. It is an awesome cut on my curly hair. After my regular stylist moved four years ago, I have been seeking a salon to call home. I had read online that the ladies at Exposed are masters of their craft. However, on the afternoon of my appointment, It seemed that I would not find out one way or the other, as I was stuck in traffic for long enough to know it was time to reschedule. Kathy, the salon manager, neatly arranged my appointment around my new schedule. In the background, I could hear sounds of a busy salon and knew that it must have been rather inconvenient to fit me in. Like a true pro, she made me feel like a priority and never let on. Upon my long-awaited arrival, I was greeted with smiles and a very welcome cold glass of water. The salon itself was cozy without feeling cramped, and the other customers seemed happy and very much at ease. Even if I got a lousy haircut at this point, I probably would not have had the heart to badly review this place, but that is far from what happened next. I was placed into the capable hands of Diana, who patiently helped me select a style. I am convinced she is a magician, as she then transformed my rather sad looking hair into a masterpiece of cut and style. However, the true measure of a haircut is how it looks after the first wash...once all the product and clever maneuverings run down the drain. Equipped with nothing more than a blow-dryer and a comb, I discovered that my hair didn't look good...it looked amazing! I think I may have received more compliments on this cut than all the elaborate updos of the past. Five stars do not seem to be enough to express my satisfaction and relief; I finally have a salon to call home! read more

I have held back from writing this review due to the fact that the shop did credit back the money for my haircut. I had my hair styled 8 weeks ago today. I brought a picture of the style I wanted and explained to Jenee it was basically what I had already and that it was about 8 weeks grown out. The style is a shoulder length, long layered style with the shortest layer (bangs) starting at about the cheekbone. Jenee was very busy and tending to other patrons at the same time, so maybe over booking was a part of the problem. At one point while cutting Jenee asked me if the style was shorter in the back. As the picture clearly showed, I told her no it touches the shoulder sides and back. When she was all done, I had a A symetrical Bob. Nothing close to the previous style (the picture). My hair was cut so short in the back, exposing my whole neck, it got longer toward the front and I had what appeared to be "dog ears" hanging on the sides of my face. However the right side was about and inch longer than the left side. I wanted to cry. I've had so many diverse styles over 50 years of hair, I've never hated a hairstyle like I did this one. I didn't want to leave the house. I myself cut the long "ears" off of the front and went to the store and invested more money in a difuser blow dryer (hoping to do a curly beach hair look), and different styles of barrettes and hair pins to get me through the summer. I knew I could go back to my old stylist (who was sick that day), and she would make it nice again. BUT...I didn't have any hair left. It won't be back to where Jenee was supposed to cut it until probably fall. I had it cut on May 13th. That is sad. The shop offered a free fix but as I explained there wasn't any hair to cut. I paid for my haircut $45 + $15 for eyebrow wax + $10 for a tip. The shop refunded the $45. I was greatful to at least not had to pay for this. I just hope in the future when someone asks for a specific style that they don't walk out with whatever whim the stylist felt like performing. I didn't write this for two months. But two months later I'm still upset with having my hair ruined for next 4 months. Be careful! read more

I got a nice haircut from Katelynn. I like the interior and overall busybody atmosphere here, and the lady at the front desk was crazy sweet and chipper. All in all, I had a good experience. While I left mostly satisfied, I did have it relayered and texturized about a week after my cut here. Katelynn was super nice and I liked her a lot, perhaps she felt the need to stay on the "safe side" and not go as layered as I requested. She did a good job, but I most likely will not return to this salon. Oh, also, they only accept cash tips, no tips on your credit card will be charged! Good to know! read more

Kaitlyn has been doing my hair since she was in cosmo school. I am extremely picking and tend to go from black to blonde then back to black quite often. I have gone to a variety of salons in the Lombard/Villa Park Area...and there are a lot to choose from, but I will continue to come to Exposed to see Kaitlyn. She is never afraid to try new things or tell me what she wants to do when I am indecisive. She is super friendly, and fun to chat with. She is good with Short hair cuts which is a hige plus for me, since my hair nevers goes past my shoulders. You should all try her out! read more

I moved into the area about 5 weeks ago. I needed a haircut, so I went to a very upscale salon I had driven past on the way to work. I got the WORST haircut I've ever had. I combed it forward (roman look) to hide as much of the unevenness as I could, but after two weeks, I couldn't take it anymore. Despite my fear that nothing could be done because it was so short (in some places), I decided to take action. I used Yelp! to do extensive research, and ended up making an appointment with Anna, who cut it this evening. Although I didn't hear any trumpets sounding or choruses singing while she was working on me, she performed a miracle. It's not perfect (I knew it couldn't be), but I'd say my hair is a 7.5/10. Considering it was a -25 when I walked in, I am ecstatic about the 32.5-point improvement. In addition, everyone was very friendly and accommodating (despite my arriving 15 minutes late due to heavy traffic). I have already booked my follow-up appointment. Can't say enough good things about this place. I just moved back to the midwest from New York and I hadn't had a haircut in eons (because I could no longer afford it!). If you have curly hair, you'll appreciate the staff there--I have frizzy curly hair and my stylist, Donna, had curly hair and knew EXACTLY what she was doing, and she was super nice while doing it. None of those first-time-in-a-new-salon jitters. Donna put me totally at ease and I ended up with a great haircut. Exposed is very modern and sleek inside, but instead of hipster snobbery the environment is very chill and down-to-earth. The receptionist was great, and I was offered refreshments a couple of times. They were also playing some great 80's songs and videos on their flat screen tv, which I loved. Nothing like getting your hair done while singing along to Whitney Houston and Madonna. Since I haven't been back to the midwest for a while I'm not sure what a reasonable rate is for a haircut, but compared to New York prices my haircut was a complete steal!! I have been getting my hair done at Exposed for several years! I have my hair done by Megan and she is so frickin amazing! She listens to what I want and executed it with perfection!!! THE WORST SALON EVER - DESTROYED MY HAIR First of all my hair is an utter disaster. The color is horrible and looks like a very cheap bottle job, yet I paid Exposed over $200 for my hair. I asked repeatedly for a refund and was hung up on and told I was harrassing the salon. Secondly, when I said that I hated my hair and it looked nothing like the picture I had provided the owner Anna had the audacity to say that I lied and that I had provided a different picture - is she kidding? Could she be more unprofessional? Finally - the other reviewers are correct re: the smoke. Moreover, the stylist kept taking smoke breaks which might be why it took FOUR HOURS to get my hair done. In this type of economic environment a business like this doesn't deserve to survive. It is going to cost me another $200 to repair the awful job that they did, not to mention the extensive damage this is doing to my previously healthy hair. I intend to take them to small claims court and if there is anyone out there with a similar experience that would like to help or join me, please let me know! read more
