When I called Hairborn, Jillian answered and was super friendly and personable. She got me an appointment with Melissa precisely at the time I needed (since I still had to coordinate picking up my kids on time). It's like the stars aligned! I told Melissa that I needed my fine hair cleaned up, but didn't want to lose a lot of length. I also explained that I needed to keep things low maintenance. She asked about layers, and I told her I would defer to her expertise. And that I did, as she recommended blow drying my fine hair prior to cutting to get a better idea of how everything was going to lay. After washing, she blow-dried, and then also flat ironed my hair, which was honestly a first in my experience. Then, Melissa further worked her magic on cutting and cleaning up my tired, tangled hair. She took her time. It came out better than I was hoping. I'm used to a long blunt bob, but this is a sleek straight 'do. My hair feels fresh, but I still feel like myself. Nothing drastic; rather, elevated. It's always a roll of the dice to try a new stylist, but Melissa is obviously a good listener, is skilled, and is intuitive. There were no product up-sells and no separate shampoo girls. BTW, the vibe of Hairborn is rock/alternative/edgy with extravagant and classy decor pieces. Cool space that seems to celebrate individuality. I was a fan, except for the endless sea of masks on staff and most clients (kind of beta for a spot that screams "unique and edgy"). Luckily they welcome fresh-faced clients, so that was a non-issue. I may have just found my new salon. I'd be interested to try other services..maybe brows when I'm ready to give up the natural look.

I just returned from the worst experience by a so called wig stylist, Maria, at this place. I…read morecalled over a week ago to make an appointment to obtain a wig and asked several questions prior to making the appointment. I was told Maria is the "expert" wig stylist and that she has "hundreds" of wigs to try on. I arrived early to their salon and was greeted by the so-called wig stylist who only had a few wigs to try on. She told me she had hundreds at home but there were absolutely no choices in the salon. She then tells me she was told of my appointment today and she was not prepared in the least. She was willing for me to order a wig sight unseen and would order just a couple for me to try on. But of the so called hundreds that she has at home, she was unwilling to bring any samples for a future appointment. She wanted me to order instead. Also, when she had me try on the wig, this so-called wig expert, put the few wigs she had available onto my eyebrows. She could not even center the wigs correctly. Nor could she adjust the fit. I being a novice knew more than she did as the so called professional. And, the wigs looked like rags, there was no style to them at all. DO NOT GO HERE FOR WIGS. SHE DOES NOT KNOW WHAT SHE IS DOING AND THERE IS NO SELECTION WHATSOEVER.

The facial was probably the best one that I've ever had. The room is charming, calming, and cool. Well appointed for my needs, even a cute shell jewelry box to store my rings during my facial. The products for the facial smelled great and did a great job of gently cleaning and plumping my skin. The best part was Renee's massage and ability to work my skin in a way that made me look younger and fresher when we were done. At the end of my hour, I felt really relaxed, pampered and rejuvenated. I can't wait for my next appointment with Renee and a Marek Ashley facial.

My mother, sister and I went to Le Vant the other weekend to get manicures - kind of a…read more"girls-day-out". My sister booked the reservation for us, choosing Le Vant because it was nearby and because they had the time available to take all three of us on somewhat short-notice. I think Le Vant wants to be more of an upscale salon, rather than a local beauty-parlor. The services they offer and their prices sure make it look like they're more upscale. Hmmm. The space looks like someone started with a large open room, and got someone's brother-who-does-drywall to come put up walls to create little individual rooms for 'haircuts', 'hair color', and 'nail-services' (It's possible that someone else's brother may have come out to sponge-paint the whole place). Upon arriving I needed to use the restroom and found what you'd find at your neighbor's house: A single (slightly damp) hand towel hanging on a bar for you to dry your hands with - not the most sanitary of conditions. Ew. This was the first sign about what kind of experience we'd have. Walking back to the nail-services room, one has to wander around several random corners, through the area with the washer/dryer and within inches of the colorist's chair. Again, not anything horrifying, but if I'd been getting color done there I don't think I'd want to feel like I was having it done in a Laundry Room, and have everyone wandering right by my chair as if I were on display. The nail-services room is nice enough, quite roomy, with three stations for manicures and three pedicure chairs - nothing terribly fancy, but nice. They do have a lovely selection of nail polish colors - including OPI. I brought a bottle of OPI from home, just in case I didn't see anything I liked, and in the end went with it simply because I didn't want to spend any more time trying to make up my mind. All three of the nail technicians seemed fairly young - two of them could have been very recent high-school graduates. Not that there's anything wrong with that, however the gal who worked on my nails seemed.... new at it? Okay, you know that feeling you get in your fingers/hands when you scratch your nails down a chalkboard? Not the sound, just the feeling. I think she was holding the emery board at a wrong angle or something - it felt a whole lot like that a good portion of the time. I should have said something, I know, but I thought: "Um, I think you're doing it wrong" would have been just kind of rude, huh? It was at this point that I noticed that we were all using reusable emery boards and that's something else that kind of bothers me. I also couldn't see any place where they might be sanitizing any of their other tools. Sure, that might have been just around the corner in another part of the salon, but if those things aren't within my line of sight (and there was plenty of space in this room for it) then I get paranoid that people are just using soap and water at the sink and are calling it a day. The shape of my nails was decent, but no better than I could do myself at home, and the very tips were kind of jagged because the emery-board was one of those super-hard gritty ones that I think you're supposed to use on acrylic nails, not natural nails (which also may have contributed to that horrible chalkboard feeling). She did push back and trim my cuticles, but again, no better than I could have done at home. Hand massage was only really enough to slather on some super-sweet-smelling lotion, which I washed off when I got home (I don't understand places that don't use unscented products). The polish seemed nicely done (air-bubbles only on my thumb) but within three or four days it was all chipping. The last thing that bothered me was while we were sitting there, a couple of gals from reception came back to let our techs know that their next hair appointments were already there (so not strictly nail-technicians) and proceeded to say something to the effect of: "I don't know, I think she cut it herself or something, and the color?? Is PINK." and then they all had a good laugh together. Not professional. I felt bad for the gal who they were talking about - I was embarrassed for her. Okay. The final word is that although everyone was nice enough, and I got my nails done which is a nice treat, there isn't anything at all about this place that would make me ever want to go back. It's a local-yokel beauty-parlor masquerading as a Fine Salon - you can get the same quality of service at places that are much cheaper, and you can get much better service for the same price at much nicer places. I felt like I was at a teaching-salon.

First off, quant little Itasca where I went to school as a child and grew up. Love downtown Itasca. Surprised more businesses haven't squeezed their way into this area. I guess with Elk Grove/Arlington Heights near by, that might explain some things. Found this place through a friend and heard that I should try them so I did. I heard Danielle was THE gal to see for my waxing and hair cutting/dying needs. I'm not a person that dyes my hair, but one day when my little bit of gray takes over, I'm sure I may have to consider it. First off, you walk in this place and it's relaxing from the word go. Great atmosphere and wonderful staff to top it all off! They have a little boutique in the front with some cutesy little tops and jewelry. just darling! They offer manicures, pedicures, spa pedicures, NO Chip manicure (one of my faves), acrylics, make up, hair cuts for BOTH MEN AND WOMEN (and children), Up-do's, Coloring, highlites, perms, shine treatment and the new craze--- Brazilian Keratin Treatment. Pricing is comparable for this quality of service. Danielle offers a referral program (Danielle specifically) and offers her new clients a special deal on a cut and color...I may have missed all the details, but the word "Free" was involved. :) I had her wax my eyebrows. I don't really require much waxing but she did such a great job. Shaped them up beautifully and made me feel like I did something nice for myself. They offer a variety of waxing services, including the brazilian wax, lip, eyebrow, chin, back, chest (wish I could get my fiance to partake in a few of these), legs and underarms. Need a facial? The got 'em! I am thinking of perhaps partaking in one myself around the time of my upcoming wedding. Oh man, did i mention that they offer Swedish massages for only $60!?!? And word on the street is that the woman that does the massages here is SPECTACULAR!! I'm so excited to have found this place. I decided to tag along to see what I thought and they were good enough to squeeze me in too. Guess what??? It's the same Danielle who used to cut my hair for years many moons ago! When I moved from Itasca to Schaumburg, I ended up choosing a salon right around the corner from my then new house. I can't believe that I've found her again. She's been in this profession for fourteen year now...wow, how time flies! And now I feel a little older than I would like. But I digress. Anyhow, I decided to eliminate the Oscar the Grouch/Tom Selleck look that I've been sporting for a few weeks and opted for an eyebrow and lip waxing. The waxing room is nice. Very clean. They don't double dip in the wax which is greatly appreciated. It would be almost as bad as double dipping in the chip dip at a party which is why I'm glad that they stay away from that practice. ;-) Anyhow, I agree with the nickname. Oh, Gentle Waxer, you left me painfree and very relaxed! I was surprised because my face usually hurts for a while after a waxing, but not this time. The salon itself is divided up nicely. They have a couple manicure stations setup in front by the windows, so there is good lighting. The other windowfront is the home of their boutique. Filled with jewelry, handbags, hats, scarves and really cute tops - there's a lot to look at in that space! I need to devote more time right there on my next visit. The pedicure station is near the back of the salon for a more relaxed feel away from the guests coming in and out the front door. The stylists are setup throughout the Center along the walls. Overall the prices are what I would expect and I'm good with that. Everyone that I encountered was friendly. I like that a lot. I like feeling welcomed. Like they're glad to have me. :-) I'm looking forward to my next visit. I love downtown Itasca and all it has to offer. This is a great locally owned salon that's worth your time and money!
