I went to Exposed for a hair cut the other night, and it was definitely one of the best I have ever gotten! I have already received so many compliments, and I told them all I went to Exposed in Lombard. The owner Anna does a fantastic job, and she is just so down to earth. For a salon that provides such high-quality service and style, they have none of the attitude that usually accompanies those things, and their prices are very reasonable as well. I went here based off of the reviews on Yelp. It's disgusting how they think they can get away with fucking their customers over like this. I had a stylist named Bianca, who told me she taught people how to style hair. I went in for a deep conditioning treatment. I asked her to blow dry my hair so that it waved out at the bottom. She blow-dryed my hair, and it started to feel tacky! When she was done, my hair was similar to straw. And then she proceeded to flat iron my hair into curls. Everywhere. I left with the most damaged hair I've ever seen. Dry. Brittle. A whole bunch of new split ends. And I looked like Dolly Parton. Nonetheless, I gave her a $10 tip, because I like to tip generously. They charged me $35. When I got home later that day, I saw what bad condition my hair was in and ran to the nearest Target to purchase deep conditioning treatments and repair serums. It cost me $45 for those products. I emailed the salon asking politely if they could reimburse me for destroying my hair. One week; no reply. Then my bank statement came and said they charged me $45 instead of the $35 I was notified about. I called there salon three times, two days in a row during their open hours. No answer. By now, they are lucky if I don't show up and bitch them out. Shit service. They obviously don't know what they're doing, and all they care about is making money off of decent people. I would not recommend this place, even for a trim. If anything, I would've much rather gone to a cheap hair cuttery like Great Clips. And I'm 100% that all the good reviews on here are just friends of the employees or fake accounts to make them look better than they really are. What a shame. read more

I am sorry to the ladies at Exposed because I did think they were very nice people but.....I have to agree with the other reviewers that something is up with the rave reviews of this place. I am seriously feeling like I got burned by "yelp" for the first time. I agree with the others that the place has a crowded storefront feel. But my issue with the decor has to do with the cleanliness factor. I was put in a chair surrounded by not just one persons hair but what looked like several other peoples hair. There was also hair all over the countertop and when she opened up a cabinet to grab out a drier....you guessed it! More hair! So much that I seriously question when the place was giving a good cleaning. And it wasn't just the hair....it was just plain dirty. Even the mirror I was given to check out my hair was full of finger prints and dirt from salon products or something. Then what was the worst for me was how loaded the brushes and combs were with other peoples hair. I have never experienced such a dirty salon and believe me....I am not a psycho neat freak either. This was just that bad. Then, again to the ladies at Expo, I am sorry but someone needs to comment on the age factor because it is factor. These ladies are very nice and I know age shouldn't matter but I need to know what to expect. If you go to Exposed......expect stylists much older than you might be accostmed to elsewhere as in like pushing 60 or more, and I am not even kidding you! I have never experienced anything like this at a salon. Usually if you think about it, mosts better salons have younger stylists. Call me discriminatory with age but I want my stylists to be young, trendy and current with today's styles. That is not what you will get with Anna or her Mom. I seriously do think friends gave the other reviews. My haircut was ok. I went from longer hair to a bob. But hey bob's just work with my hair so I am not so sure there is anything special about this cut for $45! I guess I learned today that there is more to a "haircut" then just the outcome. You have to be comfortable with the asthetics of the salon and I absolutely was not! I suggest you do a "walk-buy" first if you are still considering it after the questionable "positive" reviews and I will bet you don't become a "walk-in". Something is definiely not right with this salon! I am just glad I decided at the last minute to just go with a cut and skip the color. read more

Made an appointment for a deep conditioning treatment after having bleached my hair myself. Afterwards, they asked if I wanted to blow dry my hair for an extra $25. I guess they let their clients sometimes leave with sopping wet hair? I had my stylist blow dry it and had asked her to blow dry my hair inwards. She took a straightener to my already damaged hair and straightened it to the point of burnt, frazzled dryness. Leaving my hair in a worse state than I came in with. Never again. read more

I have been going to Anna since she was a college student in Naperville working not too far from where her Salon is now. I've watched her grow into a compassionate woman with so much to offer to her clients and continues to learn new techniques. She has started up and relocated her Salon and continues to grow her business with an excellent staff along with wonderful stylists. Exposed salon, and excellent place for a terrible haircut...they charged me $30 for doing the opposite of what I asked for and had me facing a brick wall the entire time so I couldn't see what was going on. I have naturally curly, fine hair, thus, very difficult to cut. You absolutely need to know what you're doing in order to cut this kind of hair well. Anna Maria, the owner, is awesome! I walked in and told her I wanted to update my hair but was nervous given the type of hair I had. She looked over my hair, made suggestions, showed me pictures and ultimately, gave me a fantastic haircut! I love it. Not only is Anna sweet and puts you at ease immediately, but she is great at what she does. One complaint that I do have is that some of the girls at the salon smoke. While I believe they smoke outside, there is always a presence of smoke that either wafts in or can be smelled on someone walking by. Since I am a non-smoker, and look to relax and enjoy myself at any salon I patron, this is definitely something that the salon should work to eliminate. But, overall, this complaint won't stop me from returning. read more

I highly recommend this salon for haircuts. I've been consistently getting my hair cut by Jenee for about two years now. I have changed my hairstyle a lot over the years, and Jenee has always been the laid-back stylist I've turned to when wanting to take a bit of a risk. I walked in with medium length ombre hair and plenty of dead ends that reached just past my shoulders and asked Jenee to chop it off to an extra curly chin-length bob. A few months later, I had her cut it into a shorter, edgier pixie cut. When I decided to grow my hair out, I went back in for a trim to avoid the dreaded awkward mullet phase that comes when you're growing out a short cut. The only reservation might apply to women of color: I have hair that is thin and wavy which most American stylists are trained to cut, but like many brown girls know, it's pretty difficult to lift color on our extremely dark brown hair - something that the stylists didn't seem too aware of. I have gotten pretty used to dying my hair on my own, and have determined that I need some pretty hefty dye or some pre-bleaching, but I decided I'd at least get burgundy peek a boos in my non-virgin hair professionally done. I appreciated skipping pre-bleaching to avoid extra damage to my hair, but my 40 bucks ended up yielding pretty invisible results. I eventually dyed my hair again myself to bring out the color. read more

I had a cut and highlights with Sara. She is so sweet and personable. However, when I got highlights they came out uneven and very bright! ( like platinum blonde!) I was so disappointed with the job that I came back another day to get more toner on my hair to make it blend more.........it helped a little bit but it was still not even AT ALL. I have been going to Exposed Salon since their early days in the original location. Staff have always been cheery and attentive. Anna gives a fabulous cut and style for my long, layered hair. My mom has been going to Anna for cuts and color for just as long. She always loves the outcome and how Anna really follows what she asks for. Stylists often times try to do what they think you'd look best with rather than what the client likes. Not Anna. This weekend I had my first appointment in the new space and I'm in love! Never been to this salon before and had a trial run for a bridal updo. I loved it so much, that I booked my appt for the day of the wedding. 5 bridesmaids and two little girls also booked appts for that morning. We had the entire salon to ourselves that morning...which was fantastic! They also provided a fresh fruit tray, coffee, water, etc. Diana did my updo even better on the day of the wedding! All the girls raved about how nice everyone is and how fun it was to have the place to our own in the morning. She did such a great job, every hair stayed in place (but did not look like a brick) even after my groom accidently dropped me during a "dip" walking out of the church! Loved it! I've gone to another salon for YEARS... but my colorist has been on maternity leave FOREVER. I found the salon through YELP and decided to give it a shot. When I called I explained how picky I am, what I wanted and that I was on a short time line. They got me right in with Katie. She listened to me and worked with me to choose the right color combo for my hair. She put in a ton of foils, just the way I like it! My hair is fabulous! I am so pleased! The salon is not fancy but that is ok with me because I don't enjoy going to the stuffy salon's where everyone is dressed like they are going clubbing. I want to RELAX!
