I believe this is from freezing the beans to preserve them for use later. Or it could be that the beans they choose are just inferior in quality or roasting. Anytime I see one, I know the quality won't be the same as the company Starbucks stores. I actually feel sorry for the employees who get assigned to this job in the larger Freddy's or Safeway stores where these Starbucks kiosks are located. They try, but they never seem to have received sufficient training to do their jobs properly and are nowhere near the level of skill at them that one would expect to find in a free-standing Starbucks location. As for this location, try to remember that it isn't a proper Starbucks. The clerks work for the larger store not Starbucks itself. Your order might not be correctly understood and therefore might turn out other than you requested. Just try not to take it out on the people working there; they're hamstrung by the bad business decisions of people who make far, far more money than they do.
