I was with Extra Space for two years. I had three lockers, and they doubled the prices of all three lockers over time until I was paying the price of an apartment per month. A big rip off. They possess people's belongings if they don't pay, so be careful. I also am left with the impression that they may not treat their staff well - they fired one honest and helpful Staff person; I felt bad for him because I didn't have the impression he deserved it and because he worked hard. I find it difficult to recommend them even though they have some very nice people working there (there are also some nasty ones). The corporate office seems to me to be unfeeling in how they treat customers. If you use their facilities, get in and out quickly for the best experience because long-term storage could end up being much more expensive than you first thought. read more

Yet, the same size unit is still offered at the price I originally I signed up for just 4 months ago. Ultimate bait and switch! I went to Extra Space Storage on Saturday just to check out the facility and options. Immediately upon entering the office I was greeted by all three employees behind the desk. There was one other customer ahead of me but my wait time was less than a minute before I was getting help. My customer service person was Michelle. And she was fantastic. I told her that I was interested in looking at a 5 X 5 unit and within minutes we were off to look at one. She asked me all the right questions and led me to a unit that was exactly what I needed. We went back to the office and did the paperwork . Michelle explained everything clearly and concisely . She was professional and friendly . I was on my way in less than 30 minutes. Rat shit everywhere ate through my couch and all my baby's stuff I had to throw away-- piss and holes I moved out and they charged me another month for leaving a couple things. My rent went from $260 to $346 within a matter 3 to 4 months. After speaking with the manager, they decrease it to $308. However, I was told that my account would be reviewed again at the end of the year and there was a possibility that my rent would increase again. I just moved my belongings to a different storage facility that was cheaper and my monthly rent would be the same for the first year. I will NEVER rent from Extra Storage again and I will NEVER recommend anyone to rent from them. read more

Really clean facility and easy to access. Very friendly and helpful onsite staff. However, in 12 months my rate has increased 70%. They are a month to month company so this is within their right but they prey on the fact that it is difficult to move your items once they are there and that people aren't paying attention. Rented a 10x20 in November 2023. Today (1/13/24) received a notice of an increase in the monthly rental by 50%, from $200 to $300 per month. Customer service reminded me the contract stated rates could rise at their choice based on market conditions. Obviously their business model is to scam customers into renting at xx price then quickly raise the price by 50% after customer has already moved items into the unit. Basically telling customers go somewhere else if you don't like it! Plan to report this to the BBB with details so others will not be scammed by this dishonest and unethical organ-ization! read more

Would give zero stars if I could. Our unit and 12 others were broken into. Thousands of dollars worth stolen. It HAD to be an inside job. The thieves had access to multiple floors which have limited access by code only (supposedly). Shockingly no help given by their video and no prevention by their security. Would not trust this company. Update: 3/30/2020. Came to empty out our unit as we don't trust this company. And what do we find, our unit was broken into yet again. This time the thieves cut the hasp. I walked along the row and found several other units with the same issue. See pictures. All these lockers are full of people's personal belongings and there is no attempt to secure it for them. After emptying out our locker we see 3 police officers and discover 89 units were broken into as well. I see cameras here and just can't fathom how this happened right under their noses. I guess no one is monitoring or providing any kind of security whatsoever. We've asked for a refund because we have no idea what we were really paying for other than an opportunity to make thieves rich. They should rename this place Extra Bucks for Thieves. Again, I think this is an inside job since a code is needed to get up to these floors. Every floor was accessed. And these guys had all the time in the world to access 89 units. What an easy gig. Well that's it. I'm here, in Atlanta, and I'm never moving again. Ever. After the disaster with Smartbox and the relative ineptitude of In and Out Movers, I was really thankful to come across Extra Space Storage: the only business involved in my move for which I can give a good review. My movers weren't supposed to arrive in Atlanta until mid January, when I would have a place for them to move my stuff into. Unfortunately they decided to come down early, and informed me of this at 4pm on the day before they were going to arrive. Awesome. I found Extra Space on Yelp and gave them a call. They're running a promotion where the first month is free, and since I will only be storing my things for (hopefully!) a few weeks, my entire bill was only $29 for the move in fee. When I arrived at Extra Space, looking like a total mess and frantic because my movers had arrived unannounced, Marcus greeted me with a smile and walked me through all of the paperwork. Although I'm pretty sure I just signed my life to Extra Space, I really appreciated his upbeat personality and kindness throughout the whole thing. Moving in was pretty easy, with a large freight elevator and lots of dollies to get things around. They also sell boxes, locks, and packing materials and are even willing to accept packages for you if you're renting space from them. I'm one of those people who loves to spy on people by analyzing everything in their grocery carts, and looking into storage units that are being loaded and unloaded is even more of a thrill. Plenty of spaces to park and unload and they make it easy to get up to your unit with a push cart, too. The best feature is that you can get items shipped to the address with your unit number and the UPS/FedEx dude will put stuff in your unit for you. Ummmm...that's incredible. Had to take care of all of the necessaries at the front desk and the woman behind the counter was a joy to work with. She was conversational and interested in my needs. That goes a long way for something so cut and dry like a storage place. While they were very pleasant when we moved in, we didn't realize this was a bait and switch operation. We just received notice that they will be raising our rental rates. Although according to the terms of our Rental Agreement, we can cancel the contract within ten days of receiving the rate increase notice, I am sure they know the cost of renting a moving truck and a wasted day of lugging our things to a new facility will probably just make us eat the extra monthly fee. They say its only once a year, its twice a year. & its not like $5-$10, its 50%+. They'll say its the market, but why so many of your units empty then? On top of that, lights dont work, never get fixed so what is the high price increase paying for then? Then the guy next to my unit was sleeping in his unit, which tracks cuz depending on how long he's been with them, they were probably charging him rent prices. This storage facility raises your rates after three months of storage. They also find a way to keep you locked in and charging more because they lock your items up. The basement in the facility has flooded several times and the property gets broken into and vandalized a lot. I would not recommend this property to anyone. Also if they make you get insurance, it is not required by any law no matter how much they say it is and if you are only storing less than 5,000 dollars worth of goods, it is covered on their insurance automatically so don't fall for the insurance scam. Locks you can get a better lock for half of the price at Walmart, don't but their locks either. read more

I just moved across country to Atlanta and went from a 3br house to a studio here. So, some storage space was in order. As with many purchasing decisions these days, I consulted yelp for help. I'm really particular about things and was REALLY concerned with security but after getting there and walking around the property, I have no problem leaving my stuff there. A few things to note: -The building has lots of safeguards for security like control access pin pads everywhere, tons of security cameras, and a few other things that makes me feel good about leaving my precious junk. :) -They provide dollies and carts for you to use (how awesome is that?!) and are available at all times the facility is open (6AM to 10PM) -The facility is very well kept, climate controlled and clean. -Make sure you "reserve" a unit online before going over there as you will get a much better internet rate. Don't worry, you can change your reservation once you get there. -The guys at the front desk were SUPER cool - Jeff and Mike did a great job in helping me pick out just the right spot and very easy to work with. I would highly recommend this to anyone. read more

I am have been in medical sales for many years. I have lived all over the county and always have rented a storage unit for work. The facility is great. Good security, very safe, easy to access the unit. The best part of this business is the employee's. I'm a huge believer in customer service. If you are investing you money in a business you want to be treated well. Star, and the manager, Liza ( spelling wrong) are simply wonderful. Some issues out of my control presented themselves over the last 6 months. From the moment rented the unit in Feb 2016 the staff has listened to my particular items that I needed help with and both the manager and Star have done all to accommodate me and help me anyway possible. I used Extra Space for a few months during an out-of-town internship. The temperature-controlled facilities were always ice cold and reasonably priced, and when I got back into town, all my junk was safe and sound. There are plenty of dolly carts available to use, the place is very clean, and the staff is helpful and friendly. The only downside about this place is that you can get locked out in the middle of a transport if you work too close to closing time. I accidentally had to leave my entire unit open overnight due to bad timing (as I remember, the place closed a bit earlier than one would expect). However, everything remained safe and untouched. I would def. recommend this storage facility. read more

Yes, it is convenient to have a storage space located so close to Midtown, but watch out. You rent a space for an acceptable rate and then you get a notice that the rate is going up. Then in a short time you get another notice that the rate is going up again. You have to pay for convenience I guess. My unit went from $47 (with insurance) to $57 to now $67. I will be getting my belongings out before this new rate hike takes effect. Renters beware! read more

RATES INCREASE OFTEN ... BE VERY CAREFUL! They start out with reasonable rates, but will increase several times a year. What might look like a deal when you move in can quickly become a trap because you won't want the expense or hassle of moving again. They know this, and they are snakes for taking advantage of us. The facilities are great, but make sure that you need them only for a very short term; otherwise, you will see your rate hike. They will tell you that increases are do to market surveys. Since the rates are not advertised as introductory (like with the cable companies), you don't know how much the increases will be, which renders a proper rate comparison with other companies impossible.
