The staff here is really nice and helpful! I have had a space here for a few years now. For me it's the staff and proximity to my home that has me staying here. The prices always go up up up. That's the big draw back. But I think that's common for the storage spaces in the area. I have always found that the facility is clean and there is always a cart available to help me when I'm dropping stuff off. There is a foot entrance on Wabash, but if you go through the alley in the back-- there is a loading dock for a more substantial move/drop off. I will say, the alley entrance is often times messy but it may be more of an issue because it a public space. read more

i've been a customer at this location for more than 10 years and today I am done!!!! I will be moving out as soon as possible. Extra Space Storage has continued to raise the rate again and again and again -no flexibility and no accommodation for loyal customers. Several times I have tried calling to negotiate at least a reduction in the rate increase with no return customer service. The rate for a 10 x 10 unit has nearly doubled in four years!! I see their stock is trading at $144 a share though so that's great for them, but not so great for the customers. read more

The facility is always clean. If I ever have any questions Tracy W. Always is there to assist. Tracy is knowledgeable, profession and outstanding customer service kills. Today I was in a jam. Just left this facility feeling very unsafe and upset. Tracy and Karen were rude and unprofessional. Staff didnt seem interested in answering any questions, addressing where to park, or taking any care of the facility. Homeless everywhere seeming to be entering the facility and testing doors. Extra Space storage has offered me such an amazing experience througout my duration with them. Chaquita is always so proactive in assisting me with any issue that comes about. I had some heavy furniture that I had no help lifting- her and another employee offered to help me and I couldn't be more greatful. The location is very clean, my storage unit is always left untouched and unscathed by dust or seasonal patricles and even rodents and bugs. Moving in and out is always a breeze with access to dollys and freight elevators. 5 stars plus from me! read more

This place baits and switches prices. In June 2020 I went to sign a storage unit; as the contract was being drafted the price went up within the 30mins I was there. I got a price of $180/mo for my unit to start. It is now July 2021, so within a one year time frame they've increased my price twice, first it went up to $205 and now it's $235. That's a $55/mo increase in one year meaning over 30% increase!!! If your rent was raised 30% in one year that would never fly, yet this place is getting away with it. read more

BEWARE !!! If you pre-pay they do NOT refund all of your money when you move out. I have to pay for 3 weeks when I will not be in the space. What an amazing experience! Chaquita was very professional, proficient and welcoming! She made a very daunting situation seamless and easy to navigate. I had made a reservation at a different facility on the same street, but walked into Extra by mistake, turns out the other facility was rude and not willing to do business outside of their "customer hours" 30 minutes before closing. I suppose this was detined to happen, as I ended up back at the facility and signed with Extra, just on the merit of her kindness and professionalism. Thank you! I rented a room for my furniture. When I arrived, I realized that the room had a big hall in the wall (big enough for a rat to go inside). I told them that I don't feel comfortable putting my furniture in that room, and I requested to get another room with the same size or two smaller rooms for same price; the company refused, and they only offered $25 credit for me to fix the wall on my own. The staff here has always been really great. Taking down a star as they're closed today, our codes didn't work for the lady in front of me or me, and we were able to easily push the sliding door open to gain access to the building. This is a huge security concern that needs to be addressed immediately. read more

This place is awesome! I was able to make my reservation and pick up my keys the same day and moved in the day after. The manager of this property is incredibly friendly and capable. I thought she had been there forever, but is only coming up on her second year at this location! Very trustworthy place to store my belongings. They offer many different sizes of units and have a convenient loading dock in the back for unloading belongings. Pricing is very reasonable - I couldn't believe how low the cost was, even with the required renter's insurance included. I'm so happy to have found such convenient and reliable storage in the city! read more

If you are looking for a good storage facility in the South Loop this place fits the bill. Martino helped me with the move in/move out process. Very kind and super helpful! I definitely appreciate great customer service and that's never been an issue here. He got me the best price for the space that I needed. I used this storage space before my cross country move and it was clean and secure. Easy in and out from the loading dock out back. Secure space with fair pricing especially considering the location. One thing to mention is that if you come at high traffic times, you may not get a cart or access to the loading dock, so plan accordingly. Also, I would suggest using the restroom elsewhere. Other than that, I would definitely recommend this location! read more

I rarely do reviews on businesses but I'll have to make an exception on this one. Unfortunately I was down on my luck these past few months, loosing my job and going through an awful divorce. Really had me feeling hopeless, not having any experience with storage facilities and how they operated. I saw this facility that gave me some real good vibes and felt welcoming in a sense. I decided to give it a shot and stopped in at Extra Space on 1255 S. Wabash to get some info. There I met a very lovely young lady who is also the store manager named Chiquita James. Who not knowingly, in a real peaceful and honest matter. With her caring and understanding words not only helped me with my storage needs but also gave me a little bit of peace and hope within me. I don't think she realized how our little conversation helped me and for that I am eternally grateful. I will forever keep you in my heart for those kind words of encouragement and motivation that you unselfishly shared with me. The facility is extremely clean and well maintained, felt really secured. I plan on getting a new place in the next couple of months but will continue to let anyone that's willing to listen how blessed I am and lucky to have stopped in at this particular ExtraSpace. I was pleasantly surprised at the great service experience I had at Extra Space Storage. I've used another storage facility in the past and service was ok. I didn't to really expect much. The customer service from start to finish was excellent here at the southloop location. Martino contacted me once I completed my online reservation and he was very personable and friendly. Horrible!!!!! Nobody ever answers the phone when you call, there is not 24 gate access as stated in the contract and on the website, and homeless people urinate in front of the front door. Also, I'm pretty sure that there was a guy who lived on the first floor. I am constantly worried that my stuff is going to be stolen because the top of the storage unit is secured by chicken wire.... I am not the type of person to take the time to write reviews, but strongly feel that if I don't, someone else will have to go through the horrible experience that I have. There are so many storage units in this area, so do not wast your money and headache of having to deal with this place. read more

I decided to rent a 5x10 foot storage unit from this Extra Space storage location on Wabash and 13th st. The facility is fine but there were some serious discrepancies in the price I was quoted by the salesperson on the phone and the price I eventually had to pay. Alex, the manager at this location, only told me about a $22 "administrative fee" as well as a required monthly insurance which you are required to pay once I was already at the location and at the check out counter. The unit itself costs well over $100 monthly and it was upsetting to find out after I arrived at this location that the cost was significantly more than I had been told on the phone. Again, the facility itself is fine but there are plenty of other storage companies in the area that may offer more competitive (and honest) rates. read more

When I signed the lease on 6/8/2006, I was told I would receive both military and student discounts. When I spoke to an employee and manager at the end on August, they told me that it is company policy to offer no more than one discount, and that they don't even offer military or student discounts. They keep records very poorly, as they could not even tell me what discounts the company offered at the time I signed my lease. So, I have no idea if I am overpaying for my storage unit. But, there's more. The employee grew tired of my repeated calls for an explanation and, at one point, set the phone down to ask her manager a question about my account. In the background, I overheard her say to another employee, "he in the military so he an asshole." That's rather unprofessional. With the exception of one very nice girl who worked there when I signed my lease but who has since quit, the people and management at Extra Space Storage (their new name) are morons. read more
