I've been renting at Extra Space now for over a year. Only had to deal with customer service once when I moved in and they were great. The website and the app are easy to use and I've never had a problem with gate access. The place is also well kept and clean. The only issue I have is I was given a special rate at move-in and it's been increased twice while I've been there only a little over a year. I've come to learn there's no regulation in the storage space industry so there's not much you can do as a consumer other than take it, but I would hope they would be more up front on their fees. read more

Plus: Rented a 5x15 unit for my stuff, basic, no leaks. People in the office helpful. Promo rate was good for about 2 mos. Easy drive up straight to my unit, no cart needed. Cons: After promo my rate went up 100.00. Couldnt afford that type of rent increase. This company owns more than one rental place. All under the same umbrella. Same rules. But my monthly rate was jumping up from 314.00 to 372.00 for a what I thought was a 5x10, but I was told it was 5x15. I found that extremely high. SPIDER & ANT INFESTATION + MOLD I moved abroad. Storage space was rented in Dec. 2012. By Dec. 2013, the rates had increased significantly, so during a trip back to the States, I transferred my belongings into a smaller unit at this same location. After being in storage for a year, my belongings were fine. I returned 2 years after that (Jan. 2016) to collect my belongings and found that my unit (and I'm sure many others) had been completely infested with spiders and ants and there was mold on/in my boxes. Everything was covered in webs and egg sacks. I'm posting photos. The people on site that day came out to look at it and didn't think it was such a big deal. They told me that they spray for pests regularly and that usually people come and check on their belongings every month. What?! So, this is MY fault? I was living overseas - and even if I weren't, I wouldn't check on my things every month anyway. They said that they are not at all responsible. I said that they are responsible for protecting the storage units and what's inside them. That's the whole point of paying them, right? They came back at me with "We are not here to protect your things. That's what protection insurance is for." Really? So, why do you have someone living on-site? Why the security cameras?? Why the security gate and codes?? We asked for new boxes and they offered us 5 medium boxes to unpack and repack our belongings. I couldn't move the old boxes into my new home. We had about 30 boxes in storage (plus furniture, etc.) and told we needed 20 boxes minimum. They looked shocked and reluctantly agreed. It took us almost 2 hours to unpack and repack all of our things into a smaller quantity of boxes. 2 hours that we didn't plan. We had to rush to return the rental truck on time. Several items were not salvageable, so they were tossed. I contacted the protection insurance company and said none of this was covered. Unbelievable. The items that were tossed are replaceable. That's not the point. The time and expense required to deal with this infestation that day and thereafter were those that we should not have had to incur. Three years of patronage and this was their response. Things happen. I get that. The way this was handled was completely unprofessional. This company states that it "professionally manages self-storage facilities", but this is not my definition (as a service provider and consumer) of "managing professionally". What are the chance that they notified the renters of the units beside or near my unit that there was an infestation? I will never rent from this place again, nor would I advise anyone else to. read more

Today I came in with my mom to check out rates for a small storage. We were immediately greeted by JJ who turns out was on loan there from his own department. He gave us excellent service! Answered any questions we had, and even offered to show us the storage space to see if it fit our needs. He was so helpful we didn't even hesitate to start our monthly storage plan! JJ was a star and made everything smooth and easy, which after a long day of work the last thing you want to do is stand there filling out paperwork. He even ensured our gate number worked fine before we had left! JJ was not this locations manager (which was a bummer for us) but nonetheless he was the reason we ended up getting the storage. I've had a lot of storage facilities over the years. I must say this service is the BEST. I rarely give 5 stars but I can tell you from personal experience. This one here on Western/Artesia is: 1. Super Clean 2. Great customer service 3. download coupon from internet off their website to get like $10 off or whatever specials they have at the time. 4. The managers are young, very nice looking, clean, helpful, and outgoing. Positive Energy. Very positive Energy. Unlike some of the other storage facilities in LA where they can be old, nasty looking. grumpy people with bad attitudes. This is not the case here I would suggest that if you need EXTRA storage space you go here. They don't bother you. Everything is by Email. You can pay it online or go there to pay it. They also have EASY cancellation. two days notice is fine. No 30 days notice.NO over charges. Start up fees were easy.You have to pay for their insurance which is fine too. I think this place is one of the BEST. Very new, clean, good facilities. NO rats, No bugs, no trash, it smells nice and clean. I highly recommend. They don't threaten to put on your credit if you decide to cancell .. Seriously it is a GREAT service. I think they're going to put all the rest of these companies with SKANK attitudes, filthy spaces, out of business. LOL read more

The facility is nice, clean and secure. My wife and I had the pleasure of working with Chris, who is absolutely awesome. We are moving from Oregon and needed a Space for our stuff while we look for a place to live and Chris went above our expectations. He is very courteous, friendly, honest and funny. We had a dilemma where they were going to be doing paving on the same day we are planning to move our stuff in. Driving from Oregon in a Uhaul. Chris was able to move us to another unit where we would be able to unload our stuff without interrupting our move and without being in the way of there paving. We THANK YOU!! So very much Chris. Just moved our stuff in recently and I'm not sure how happy I am. The door on our unit broke on the 1st day that we moved stuff in. There is a sign hanging outside that says First month FREE...but when I asked about it they said that it's based on availability and that it doesn't apply right now. I told her that I thought that was a little deceiving. Just hoping that we don't have to keep our stuff there for very long. It is more expensive than I thought it would be. read more

Amazing customer service! Thank you to Esther Gort (assistant manager) for being so patient and informative with me. She really took the time to give me a detailed tour of the premises. There are actually working cameras covering the entire site and lots of clean, available storage units. I am so grateful for Esther showing me the newer 5x10 unit and comforting me in leaving my belongings there for storage. If you are moving from a one bedroom apartment, the 5x10 unit will definitely suffice, unless you have more than the usual belongings. It's so hard to find exceptional customer service nowadays, but Extra Storage really does an amazing job by hiring the most informed workers. Esther, you are simply the sweetest person! I admire that you go above and beyond in explaining the entire renting a storage unit process and your love for your job is apparent in your work ethic. I love how clean and safe all of the storage units are. Thank you Esther and Extra Space Units for making my move that much easier. The prices are all comparable to many other storage facilities. I have not come across a neater storage facility than this location. It's clean, no trash, no graffiti...Inside the office was spotless, even the displays of the boxes were perfect. There were 2 gentlemen in the office talking to a customer and one of then excused himself and walked over to me and asked if I needed anything. This was quite impressive as often you are not greeted at all in places when employees are with other customers. I recommend this facility if you need a storage unit.
