Very convenient place. I just wish they had more dollies. It was pretty busy when we went Saturday morning, but I guess I was to be expected. It's a good deal for how big the storage units are here. You have to put in a code to get in, which is very secure, but also when you get to the elevator. Extra Space Storage - Self Storage Near Me - Lake Balboa, California

I was super happy when I first moved into this place, it was new, clean and seemed safe - but it went downhill fast! The BEST things about this place clean + on-site managers are fantastic! Walter & Hector are both super nice guys, go out of their way to get to know people personally and really want to be helpful. The COMPANY, ExtraSpace storage on the other hand, I'm not so thrilled with. 1. They lure you in first month free then hit you with a 30% price increase within the first 90 days (everyone I've spoken to went through this) 2. High crime location! They are experiencing a lot problems with break-ins and robberies and the company isn't doing anything to curtail this. (see PHOTOS and VIDEO attached) 3. They are still cleaning the facility but have seem to have stopped repairs and maintenance. there are two elevators and one has been out of service for more than a month. [SEE PHOTO] (people kept getting stuck in it - fire department was there getting someone out at least 3x/week that I was there) UPDATE: yesterday the 2nd elevator went out so anything coming or going had to go up and down the stairs 4. There were more break-in / robberies this past weekend and the facility left the FRONT DOORS OPEN ALL WEEKEND - ExtraSpace didn't even make an attempt to deal with it until Monday. (see PHOTOS) 5. Emailed customer support and the company main office several days ago, no one has bothered to respond. Walter and the team over at the Van Nuys/Lake Balboa extra space storage are fantastic! We recently moved across country, but could not take all of our belongings so we rented with extraspace. In the short four months that we have been there, the team has been so accommodating in helping us with various things we have needed concerning our storage - all needing to be handled over the phone since we are out of state. Their team is reliable, quick to respond to phone calls, emails and text messages and truly went the extra mile to support us with our transition out of California. I've had such a great experience with this storage facility so far. Everything is super clean and brand new, which is kind of rare in most facilities. I have been to places where it was visibly filthy and not kept up and you can see cockroaches and other vermin. So I really appreciate the time and effort they put into keeping it clean. I've recently fallen upon some hardships, and they have been extra helpful and kind in making sure my unit is taken care of without stressing me out and making me feel inadequate like other facilities had done in the past! I appreciate the service and will recommend this place to friends and family. Also my monthly rent is 40% if not more less than comparable units in the area so you'll definitely save some money. read more

I needed to find a climate controlled storage space for some items. When I spoke with someone on the phone, I was told there was a 5x5 unit available that should work for my needs. This seemed like it could be too small, so they suggested a 5x10 unit. However, when I moved my belongings in I realized that the 5x10 was way bigger than I needed and I also had some concerns with the particular storage unit. I called the manager of this location, Hector, the next day and he said he could easily make the switch. Within 5 minutes I was ready to move into the new 5x5 unit, which was just right. The service from Extra Space has been very professional, courteous and helpful. I highly recommend! read more

The Staff was very helpful and informative there is a lot of space to move things and the inside unit had a nice temperature. Bathrooms were a huge Plus for me trying to unpack repack rearrange stuff can take a lot of time. The site is a few blocks from the orange line so if you have a car being shipped or not available it is still easy to get there pretty cheap. I have used a dumpster at another site in San Diego but that was 10 years ago I do not know if it is common to have or not have a dumpster available these days if dumpsters are available normally then 4 stars is solid also I did not notice any normal trashcans at min a small one in the bathrooms and one near the gate would makes sense for misc small items snacks and sanitary items read more

I would especially like to thank Hector and Richard for going above and beyond what a good person would do to support someone going through a difficult time. The combination of traits Hector applied in the circumstance is what truly caught my attention. Hector is a professional who is assertive, dutiful, thorough, resourceful, diplomatic, sympathetic, patient, and problem-solving. In order to maintain a high level and make the facility safe for others, Hector had to end my contract. I have never felt that I was being treated kindly at the same time as having my contract terminated. I have never felt good about getting kicked out of somewhere.
