If I could give zero stars, I would. I want people to know exactly what Extra Space Storage did to my family. When I rented my 5x8 unit 12 months ago, the rate was $99/month plus insurance which was $119/mo. After only four months, they doubled the rent. Two months later, they raised it again to $235/month. I called, begged for options, (The agents even said they couldn't afford the rent and was shocked it went up so high) and explained that I was trying to catch up on payments. Instead of working with me, they locked me out. And on 11/11, without giving me a real chance to save what was inside, they sold my belongings. What they sold was not junk. It was not replaceable. We only had a few items left after downsizing, my husband lost his mother recently, she was a minister, her bible and jewelry were in here, including my father's military uniform with his name on it. He died while on active duty when i was 8 years old. That uniform was one of the last pieces of him I had. Extra Space Storage sold it like it meant nothing. My family is devastated. My husband sent me this message the night we learned everything was gone, and it reflects exactly how much harm this company caused: "The girls are very devastated about storage. Both are crying and angry. They said they lost irreplaceable things. It's heavy in here tonight. She pointed out that it was misplaced to pay for a gym membership at the expense of losing tokens from her childhood memories. She said she doesn't understand how she has lost her deceased grandmother's jewelry and other irreplaceables. She began questioning why God would allow this to happen when she prays and reads her Bible. I feel like I really let the girls down. They both had healthy attachments to the items lost and felt they were being preserved in storage while losing their bedrooms and closets. It was as if the storage was safeguarding important parts of their identities. This is a big parenting blunder. It hurts to see them so broken." This is the level of pain Extra Space Storage caused by their predatory rent increases and complete lack of compassion. They took advantage of a family trying to hold onto the last pieces of a deceased veteran and generations of memories. Please think twice before trusting this company with anything precious. Once it's gone, they do not care and you will never get it back. The only thing that was left was my husband's college diploma left on the ground in front of the unit. read more

I've had units with this company in multiple states and always good service. Jessica showed me directly to my unit and how to operate the handle and lock it up properly since it was very different compared to other facilities. I was able to get a refund for my lock provided as well since I already own multiple extra space locks. Overall it's a good price for the unit and was just the right size to fit my stuff in. Hallways are also quite short so it's nice to not travel far when loading/unloading. read more

Jessica was very helpful when i changed from a small storage unit to a bigger one with all the paperwork was handled very efficiently. She helped with the best price because i told her i didn't want to spend too much and the space really fit all my stuff because before everything was super crammed full in the small one. she got me in and out super quick so i recommend extra space storage in los Alamitos. read more

As others have said, Clay and Jessica are very nice people and are happy to answer all questions pertaining to my storage unit needs. The facility was close to my home so made it very easy to access. The only problem that I encountered was that i started renting my unit in February 2023 for $217 per month. In June (4 months later) they hiked my rate by $100 to $317. And the final straw happened this month when they notified me that I was being raised again beginning in April 2024 to $367 per month. WOW! $150 hike in 14 months. Luckily I was finally able to clear my unit and bring the stuff to my home. So I guess my advise to anyone is to expect some steep hikes in your monthly rent. Other than that they do provide a needed service for those of us with too much stuff. read more

Read thru reviews because the common denominator is they get you in at a fair rate then raise it over 30-40%. My unit was $130 already had one increase since I signed-up. New rate $145 is now $225! Please do not insult your customers w-a response about real estate. Working in the business over 23 years w/our own tenants, I know what's fair and what is appropriate. You are taking advantage of people. Will be looking for a company that doesn't try to unfairly raise $. Not worth the amount of work it takes to move belongings. read more

Easy to lease online, all questions answered by phone when needed, very clean, simple move in and out. We had zero issues with security which was a relief after having been cleaned out at another facility. From the initial call to set us up, move in day, and the follow up; its been a no brainer this is why we chose this location storage. Great customer service and did not laugh or belittle when we had multiple questions before deciding. The online price is a great deal and very affordable for the unit we have. This location is gated properly with a code and has cameras with views of the ground units. The manager is very kind and it feels like a great personable experience. I used this company to store my belongings for a year because of its location being near my home. WARNING due to it being month to month they up your price every so many months what started low turned into a ridiculous amount "due to prices in the area" which is not the case you can open a unit for the same price. Unfortunately I just had sell most of my belongings no way I was going to keep anything there any longer. The space itself was very dirty I came in and cleaned it then organized my belongings and put them in nicely. Here is the worst part so many of my belongings which where in plastic bins and plastic rapped were destroyed by rats all of my belongings had rat shit and piss on it I was very unhappy finding this out when I spoke with customer support they could not help. So many of my belongings did end up destroyed including pictures and degrees and clothes I did not have anything in the unit rodents would like so this is very upsetting I payed so much for so long so rats can destroy my items. read more

They will increase almost 100% without proper notice when the law clearly states : Under California Civil Code Section 1947.12, tenants must be given 30 days notice for rent increases of less than 10% and 60 days notice if the increase exceeds this amount. If the proposed increase exceeds 10%, a longer notice period of 60 days applies under the same legislation. When you try to call it will loop you and not even allow you to contact a real human. If you call the corporate number it will force you to request a call back and you won't get one. If you use the live chat some lady named Linda will not be helpful at all and continue to disconnect you over and over again. Terald did promise I would get a refund and a manager to call me back but I'm really doubtful. I was given no notice at all. Not by mail or email. They said they sent something but it was less then 60 days. They have my unit priced lower than when it was sold to me. The spot is not climate controlled and is really janky in every way. It's basically barely holding on for dear life. The stairs were literally falling apart and you are sharing roaches and bugs with your neighbors. We used a dehumidifier and it's full immediately because it's not sealed from outside elements. All over not worth the headache. I am pretty sure what they have done is illegal... I can't believe they get away with this and then make their family or friend write fake reviews. Like no way y'all having a good experience when this is what they do ..... read more

I would not recommend this place. We had the storage for 2 months and then they raise the monthly rent by almost 30%. While the contract allows them to review rates based on market conditions, the increase is unreasonable and truly, dishonest of such a company. Very expensive and they discriminate against people. After you move in they start to unfairly discriminate and they will make your experience there very unpleasant until you move out. The owner NORM is a pompous ASS! We came in to pay our monthly bill to find out we owe more because he raised our rent... and WITHOUT any type of notice! When inquiring about it, Norm said he doesn't owe us any notice and he can raise it anytime he wants and as many times as he wants. What a way to handle your customers! They draw you in with their low cost rental fees, and then raise it without a word! This guy is a total jerk and only cares about making money, not making his customers happy! The only good thing about the place is SAM who works the counter. A Very nice man who I feel sorry for working for this kind of person. If proximity is your main issue this is a decent place for those in the east long beach area. I've accumulated some stuff after a few moves and now after downsizing to smaller accomodations had to find a storage place. This place was closeby so I could visit it without much hassle. They have a number of different size sheds and if you choose an upstairs shed there is a freight elevator to use. Also, for those into the Internet there is an online payment site so you don't have to bother mailing in your payments. The place is kept pretty clean i've had periods where I have not visited for a few months and did not see cobwebs in the storage unit read more

I went to buy boxes and the the staff was very attentive and helpful. They helped me with the boxes into my car, they helped showed me how to use the tape dispenser which I couldn't do before, and even brought my phone out to me when I had left it in the office. Great service and really went out of their way much appreciated when your busy moving. read more
