Needed storage for a short period closing on our home/searching for the next. Easy booking, easy access, very clean, they provided the lock and kept the roadways clear of snow. I picked this place because they had an affordable rate with no indication the price would increase. Two months into rental I get notice that my rate is increasing. $90 to start, NOW ITS 179. Called to ask for some info and was told my month-to-month lease holds no pricing guarantees. So we are forced to move out on principle. Short term was great, but highway robbery is unacceptable. It also exits into a one way. Which is fine but driving a uhaul means tough u-turns or added miles to drive around the block. read more

The facility is very clean. It was very easy to rent a space. I have enjoyed using this facility. Unfortunately, my rate increased by $80 a few months after move in. I will be looking at other options. read more

This facility is cleaner than my home. They offer multiple ways to pay. With my personal gate code, I can go in until 10 PM. The manager, Georgana, is very helpful and accommodating. There's only one thing that irks me and it's the damn $11 a month insurance that they require. Why not just admit the unit rents for $60/mo instead of advertising $49 plus insurance? read more

I hate to give any business a rating like this but their accounting/billing system has caused us many costly discrepancies. Do not assume anything, check your account often. Mark found a unit to suit my needs for car storage and some moving supplies. He drove me to the unit beforehand to make sure it would work. He was able to apply my home owners insurance so I didn't have an additional fee. He also helped me select a lock and showed me how to set a code. read more

I would give this more than 3 stars BUT for the fact that, as I have read from other review sites, they did indeed wait a couple months and then jack up the monthly rental price - in our case by 16%. This is a shoddy business model - is it even legal? Other than that - facility is definitely the best we looked at - clean, well maintained, secure and helpful staff. read more

The person I talked to on the phone was courteous, the online express signup went fine, and the person behind the desk was considerate and helpful. When I got my unit, I was on my way somewhere else and had just a few minutes to spare; the staff person really hustled to get me checked in promptly. After researching several competitors I found the office to be incredibly clean and the staff helpful. The manager Lauren was very informative while training a new gentleman at the same time. Price was not the cheapest i've seen but the staff made up for that. read more

Extra Space Storage in Vernon Hills, IL just increased my rate after 6 months by 14% without notice. They say it's for maintenance of the property. The light bulb in my unit doesn't work, the front desk do not acknowledge the call button on the keypad when you need help. I was never told that my rent would be increased after 6 months of storage. And it is a ridiculously high increase. I will never recommend their facilities to anyone ever. read more

Stay Away, LAUREN MAXEY, the manager will make your life a complete nightmare. She took advantage of the fact that I live out of state to overcharge me for my storage. I moved so I can get my son into college and when I got settled in and went online to pay my account they added all these charges to my account. I am more then willing to pay the late charges on my account but she decided to add more then 100 extra after only 2 months late for NO reason at all. I never received any notice or warning. When I called to make my account current she gave me NO help whatsoever. HORRIBLE customer service, completely rude. If I find out my belongings are damaged they will be sued. read more

BEWARE - This company practices deceptive advertising!!! The rate you are quoted online will increase every 3 mos. after you sign up for service! I signed up for a unit in June, only to receive notification yesterday that my rate would go up - for no apparent reason - by 14% next month. How a business can justify this is beyond me, but I understand how they get away with it: customers are unlikely to call them on their bluff because that would mean incurring the charges and the hassle of hiring a truck to move all of one's belongings to another storage facility. The nature of the storage business is that once they've got you signed up, you are stuck, and I am appalled that Extra Space Storage uses that to their advantage. The most insulting part is the rate increase notification includes a passage that suggests customers "offset this change and earn a $50 credit toward your account by simply referring a friend or colleague to Extra Space Storage." Quite frankly, I wouldn't refer my enemies. Bad business - period. read more

Thus far this storage facility is the best I have rented at.Have had this unit only a week. In the past I have rented at four different facilities. This place is clean everywhere, including inside the unit into which I moved my items. The staff is courteous, friendly, and helpful. I like the way the whole site was planned: specifically the way the driveways between the units' flow downhill to drains and are banked for the rainwater fro flow to the center of the roadway rather than toward the units on either side of the roadway. Each unit has a a double lip that would prevent heavy rains from entering, unless, perhaps the rain was something like 10" in an hour (then I couldn't say what would happen). Basically it seems really well planned. I like the way they determine each persons code to enter. And they take names of those authorized to enter on your behalf, and an emergency contact. There is a 24 hr. onsite manager, even though the office is not open 24 hours. I find the manager presence reassuring, in case of emergencies. If the manager or office staff person is not manning the office at the moment (may be showing a unit or cleaning, etc) there is a button to summon the manager, as I did when I went to rent the unit. I spoke to the person through the intercom and said I had come to inquire about renting a unit and the manager came promptly to the office. All my questions were answered in an apparently honest and forthright manor, for example how soon will the price be raised. How often will the rent go up, etc. In summary I am more pleased than I have been at other storage facilities and the rent is competitive -- a few $$ more than one that was less convenient. read more
