Initially, I was very pleased with my storage unit and the experience. Unfortunately, they have continued to significantly raise the prices during my time with them. They give me 30 days notice, but there is no appeal process or formal way to request a price freeze. They have complete autonomy and no accountability-so you have no options except to endure the inconvenience of finding a new storage facility and moving your items. I am paying almost $200 more per month now than when I signed the contract perhaps 2 1/2 years ago. It is a terrible business practice to just randomly increase rates! They did give me a couple of discounts and a credit, after I complained, but ultimately I'm paying almost $600 a month for a 10x25 unit, which is the amount people pay to rent an entire studio in some areas!! They think it helps to say that customers that sign up today pay more than what I'm paying - but I would not pay those rates if I were looking today!! Usually companies give you discounts/advantages for being long-term, great customers - nope, not this one. They just raise the prices because they can. It's awful! The storage units are nice, safe and secure. I have usually found Deb helpful with responding to my needs/concerns. I've expressed so many complaints regarding the rate increases, that she knows who I am! If you are open to paying random increases and hundreds of dollars more per month than you signed up for - this is your place. If however, you have a budget and cannot afford significant rate hikes - DO NOT STORE YOUR BELONGINGS HERE! They know it's too difficult to move your things to another location, so they just price gouge. BEWARE! read more

Clean facility, well lit, plenty of docks and dollies. I ended up getting assigned a locker that was already taken, but Alex was awesome in getting the whole situation fixed with as little hassle as possible. I've had similar sized units for half the price in downtown Chicago, which is why I don't think the value is top tier, but the customer service and ease to access make it a solid option in the suburbs. If you're not considering long-term storage ($$$), then this place can be valuable in a pinch. read more

Pros: - Fairly clean facility - There are carts to move things into and out of units (assuming people aren't using them) - There is a loading area to park your vehicle in right by the door (again assuming people aren't using them) - It's climate controlled, though still fairly cold inside when it's cold outside. It's not freezing, but cold enough that I was concerned about stored laptops being damaged. Cons: - Kind of pricey for what you get - Customer Service isn't the best - The gate gets stuck in cold weather and you'll be trapped if you don't have the office number - If they tell you that your payments are pro-rated take that with a grain of salt. I called them well over a month in advance and they acted like I didn't, so assume it isn't pro-rated even if they say that it is. read more

I would not recommend using this storage facility. My review is based on numerous issues. To start, I was putting more stuff in my unit and noticed buckets in the hallway. I asked what was going on and only when I asked I was told there was a leak in the roof. I had to take everything out of my unit and line it with tarps. Everytime you call there you have to wait for the one and only worker there to call you back. That can take hours. They are not very attentive. When it came to checking out, I was charged the full monthly amount for only using the unit for 10 days. I only got part of my money back. I got completely ripped off. I would not recommend this facility to anyone! read more

My 3 star rating is based on the following... The actually facility, once you get past the gates, is great--5 stars The customer service is not so great--2 stars The gate to get into the facility is AWFUL--1 star Inside the facility: It's extremely clean. The lighting is great and the sensor works well so the lights actually turn on (unlike some places I've been). They have a good amount of carts to use. The facility is extra secure (almost annoyingly secure if that's possible?!). You have to type in your code to get in the gate with your car. Then once you want to take the elevator up, you have to enter your code again. Each time you bring more stuff up on the cart you have to re-enter the code again. Customer Service: The staff is somewhat rude. They also do not return calls if you leave a message. The Gate: On the day I had to move my things out, I couldn't get into the gate! It was a Sunday after hours, so no staff member was there to help me. I called the after hours line and was told that unless there was a fire or flood, they couldn't help me. They left a message for the manager of my facility to call me back on Monday--and she never did! Luckily, there was a group of people behind me that also tried to get in the gate and couldn't initially...but together we were able to fix the number on the keypad that was jammed. It was FREEZING outside and we had to stand there and mess with the keypad for a good 20 minutes. Very very annoying! If I had to use a storage place again in this area, I would possibly use them...only because the actual unit was so nice, the prices are very reasonable...and you don't really have to deal with the staff all that often. read more

Facility is clean yes and they are all to happy to set you up on auto pay when you start renting a unit , actually kind of just set you up like it or not . But watch your charges and bring a lawyer to scrutinize all your paperwork you receive here , a lock , insurance, etc. You don't know this when you have never used storage and they know it . After my rent went up after 3 months I was told ' well weren't you given paperwork when you opened your unit?' Yes you might get buy one month 2nd one free but cha Ching after that . I used movers so it was going to be a hassle and more $$ to move to another competitor . Facility is clean and easy to get into but that gate is not working when it is windy and they have to come out and push it up . And the best part is , when you START renting BEFORE you even move in she asks for your review on Yelp and wait for you to do it before you leave to move your things in !! Moved the remainder of my aunts furniture here in March. They were all too happy to set me up with auto payment for my monthly rental but that's where the customer service stopped. My keys to my unit are unrecoverable. I called and Debbie told me that the lock could be cut but needed to be to facility by 4:30. I was traveling an hour to get there and ran into traffic. Tried calling to alert her to this. No answer. Got here at 4:40. Ran into office as she made collection calls and she very rudely and in front of customers told me she couldn't help me cut the lock and that I should've been on time. I have been a customer since 4/2013. I needed a place for electrical materials and it was close to home. NOTHING but issues the entire time. NEVER give them your credit card period. First payment month I had them manually enter my crd info for auto payments, and 2 weeks later I get calls from her saying im past due with fees. She messed up the autopay, and wouldn't waive the fees for her mistake. Now to my recent disaster with this company. I made a credit card payment, and 21 days goes by and they say they never received it. the payment was made on Dec. 9th 2013, till this day they still won't allow me access to locker. I've called the 800 number and been promised district managers calls 4 times(nothing), left a voicemail at corporate tonight hoping they'll help. They are completely useless to the point they can't run a simple credit card payment. yesterday I sent them a bill for $25.00 per day for each day they've refused me access. I've had my cc company call them, fax them, they still can't fix it on there end. Now they cut my lock and are threatening to auction on Feb 11th 2014. Do not for any reason use this facility, if there is a Debbie working there, walk out and then run next door to the neighboring storage place. Facility is great:5 Customer sevice:0 gate:5(never had any issues when I was allowed in. Unfortunately the customer service makes everything else not matter. they should fire them and start from scratch. When they demand large cash payments ONLY, refuse, I'm sure there pocketing it. Corporate said cc payments can always be made and are currently investigating the matter. Hope this save someone the trouble in the future. One of my business rents storage from this facility. I did the initial sign-up online and when I went in I had to redo the entire application because they don't get any of the data from the internet. Fast forward to today and I had the account setup on auto-pay using a company credit card since my company pays the bills. Deb calls and tells me that the auto-pay failed, 7 days ago, and that I have been charged a $10 late fee and that she needs to have this rectified today. I asked how she "attempted" to get ahold of me and she said "I called you 3 times and you never returned my call". Of course, she says the only phone number listed on the account is the business number and she never attempted to leave me a voicemail at work and refused to notify my assistant of the criticality of the call because of "privacy concerns" she said. Now, I was out all last week on a business trip and did not get my messages until I returned to the office on day 7. You would expect that this misunderstanding would result in me simply providing a new credit card, her removing the $10 late fee, and we would be on our way. However, she said she said it is impossible for her to return the late fee even though I had no way to be able to rectify the situation. Unbelievable! I had no way to know about this problem until after the "grace period" of 6 days elapsed. Amazing how on the DAY AFTER the grace period lapsed she was able to contact me using a secondary phone number listed on the account. In regards to her concern, "Why did our credit card not work?" I have no clue, I am not the company accountant, but I could have found out if she would have worked with me instead of fighting me every step of the way. I will never use another Extra Space storage because of the horrible customer service Deb has provided and if you want a storage place ran by people with integrity you should go someplace else. read more
