I was traveling to visit my son and, unfortunately, found a bolt in my tire. I could hear the nub of the bolt as the tire rotated. I brought our car to this place for a repair and specified the front left tire where I visually saw the bolt. It was done in the afternoon and my wife drove the car to run some errands. Later that evening I drove us to get some dinner and I heard that sound again. I inspected the tire and saw the bolt was still there. I was quite upset and called the station but the technicians were gone for the day. I asked them to please leave a message for the owner as I need to understand what happened. The next day, I spoke to the owner (Pete) and we determined that there must have been 2 separate punctures on 2 different tires. He suggested I bring in the car that morning so he could look at it. (Keep in mind, this was a Sunday morning where the shop is normally closed.) After arriving to the station, I pointed out the bolt in the front left tire and Pete handled the repair himself. We waited about 30 minute and it was done. And, given the misunderstanding on the initial tire repair, he did not charge me. I had multiple warning lights when I pulled in at 445pm Wednesday afternoon, trying to drive back to Northern Va. Pete drove my car with me and thought he knew what the problem was: a bad transmission valve box. He gave me great help with getting back to my rental, Thursday he called with a quote and Friday my car was repaired. Every step of the way was excellent service, a great value for the time and money I had to spend. BTY the Subaru dealer couldn't take me until Aug 18 while Pete fixed my car in 2 days. An absolute horrific and terrible experience! The owner lied, caused problems that I did not have, charged me for an item that was not replaced, did other work without my consent, did not secure a bolt, and caused a pump water leak and stated that it was a coincidence. In contrast Don's Auto Repair was like heaven compared to Airport Exxon. They contacted me first for extra work, did all the work correctly at a good price and was very customer oriented. I was so pleased with Don's auto that I brought all my cars to him. The repair shop fixed them all excellently. Airport Exxon however was a hellish experience that I would not want to experience again. read more

Our battery died today while we were visiting Newport News. It was our very good fortune to meet Pete Finkenauer, the owner of Airport Exxon on Jefferson Ave. Pete dropped what he was doing, drove to our location, gave us a jump, then replaced our battery at a great price. Our minivan broke down on the way home from vacation on a Sunday and had to be towed to a mechanic. We had a hard time finding any garages that were even open, but this one was, and I am so glad because their service was stellar! We had our two young children with us, and it was almost 100 degrees outside, so Pete let them sit in the air conditioned lobby (which he had just sanitized due to COVID), and he even turned on PBS so they could watch some cartoons. We arrived with only about an hour and a half left before closing, and they were able to get us in and diagnose the problem right away. Because they are a NAPA affiliated garage, they were able to order the needed part and have it delivered right away. They stayed a little bit late to complete the installation and had us rolling on our way. We made it the rest of the way home with no trouble, and our van has been running fine ever since. About a week later, I went to request a warranty reimbursement from the dealership where we purchased the van and realized I had misplaced the receipt. I called the garage, and Pete emailed a copy of the receipt in minutes. If you're looking for service that goes above and beyond, this is the place! Last night, I had a tremendous experience with the owner Peter Finkenauer. My tire blew and I was able to limp to the station, Pete was just closing up the shop and was leaving to go home, he took a quick look at my tire and realized that it could not be fixed. He did not have my size tire in stock...here is where the service is truly amazing. Pete called a tire place down the street and had them hold a tire for me. We got in his personal truck as we chatted and drove to the other tire store, after getting the tire (which Pete made zero profit on!!) , Pete drove me back to his shop and put the tire on for me!! Pete did not want to charge me anything for the service, he just said "I knew you were from out of town and I didn't want you to get stuck". Totally first class. Obviously I tipped him for the tremendous service and kindness. Here is a person then went out of his way to help someone, didn't want any money for it and was late for dinner (folks who are married will realize that this can be a big deal), just to help a guy he had never met. These guys are great. Got my tires from them and recently found a pin hole in one of them before I was heading out of town. I asked if they could order a new tire in time for me to get out of town that evening and they were able to get the tire on time and install it while I waited.
