She understood immediately[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. So, I booked my first appointment. At my first appointment she did something very important: she examined my hair thoroughly, before beginning service. She then proceeded to handle my hair with such care and attention throughout washing, conditioning, detangling... I don't think I've experienced care of this level for quite some time. Her selection of products, and her low heat (no smoke), approach to blow drying and styling, left me so elated and confident my hair health was as important to Fatima as it is to me. My second appointment was a similar experience... just an exceptional salon experience with lasting results. One more thing, her salon and her vibration is so positive and calming. No excess noise and definitely no TV/drama or sitcoms streaming, which I prefer, just nice peaceful high vibrational music! Beautiful! Lastly, the compliments! From family, friends, co workers, and complete strangers, they just keep coming. For good or bad, now I'm primping and admiring myself in the mirror! For shame! Lol. I just have to say that Fatima is fabulous! I called about a month ago to schedule an appointment for kinky twists, and she was very responsive. I was somewhat skeptical as it's a reach trying to find a hairstylist via YELP. Normally I find beauty contractors through personal recommendations but not this time. I used YELP and allowed my instinct to guide. Glad I did because I found Fatima, who was wonderful! Once arriving to her shop, she was very nice, as we greeted with a hug. After all, we were going to be together all day long, so we might as well get comfy. Booked an appointment last minute for a Wig Sew In and got just what I needed. Literally came with my hair washed and conditioned (I don't own a blow dryer so she had to do it for me). She cornrowed my hair and essentially sewed my lace front in for me. Couldn't have asked me more. Started right on time, professional and attentive to detail. $60 price point for the sew in was right up my alley.!! Cause you can pay much more for weave alone plus the install is crazyyyyy in the Bay I was on a budget :-) For first timers, fyi, it's not easily seen from the street You have to pull into the driveway which reveals additional parking and businesses in the back. I just got my hair done by Fatima this past Wednesday and she did an amazing job! I hadn't had my hair braided since I was 9 or 10 so I was pretty nervous but she assured me it would be great and got right to work. I have very curly hair so I made sure it was washed, conditioned and reasonably straight before my appointment. I strongly suggest that anyone getting her hair twisted/ braided deep conditions a couple of times before getting it done so that the hair can stand up to the weight and tension. That said, I was comfortable most of the time (some discomfort is to be expected to ensure that the extensions are in securely and as close to the scalp as possible) and Fatima is so sweet and down to earth. The salon is located in Fatima's home but it is very professional and quite lovely! Real salon seating and equipment, plenty of light, a mirror to observe if you'd like and a television/ refreshments to entertain while at your appointment. Fatima asks periodically how you're doing and if you're comfortable. Bedside manner isn't a must when getting your hair done but it was a nice touch! She's a great communicator as well. Returns calls and texts quickly. I'm referring everyone I know to her. :) It's pretty difficult finding reasonably priced hair services in my area. I called around for a couple days trying to find someone who could do Senegalese twists for a reasonable price (my hair is very long so it was difficult). I live in Menlo Park and I've had to drive to Richmond previously to get my hair done. Fatima is in San Jose in a great location. Only mere minutes from the 101. I had the pleasure of having Fatima braid my twin daughter's hair, and the results were excellent. I showed her a picture of the style I was looking for and the end results were even better than the picture. She has hair on hand if you don't bring your own, and in all colors. The grade of the hair is far better than other brands I've seen (that typically cost $5 per bag). She's also a very fast hair braider - she started around 10:30 am and was done with my twins at 4:30pm. I came to Fatima a few weeks ago for Senegalese twist. They came out beautiful. Fatima is very quite but Pleasant person, she wastes no time and braided my hair with no breaks (although i suggested it due to her pregnancy) , she said she prefers to just get her work done, her professionalism was a pleasant surprise, (we all know in women's salons that is a rare quality! ) Any phone calls she made were short and did not interrupt her work. The only reason i didn't give 5stars was due to her being more than 20 min late. (In all fairness I had a 9am Monday appointment, she stated traffic was heavy, which I was also caught up in. I really appreciate this place. They do natural hair styles that go beyond just a press and curl. They can do twist and are willing to try most other natural styles if you bring a picture. More importantly, it's great professional service. Making the appointment is easy, you receive a price quote up front on the website when you book and once you arrive, they don't keep you waiting. One sink, two chairs so there really isn't risk of having to wait. I even went again to make sure this wasn't just the special first-time-appointment treatment that I've had from other places. And no, it wasn't. This salon is professional, accommodating and good at doing hair. My hair is not easy for many people to do but I work hard to keep it natural. Then I found Fatima Hair Styles in Union City. They reply immediately, which is really helpful. She was able to take me in the next day! I was so grateful and excited. Because I wanted REALLY long braids, it took her longer to do my hair. I felt terrible that she had to take care of another client. UPDATE: The fact that Fatima left a comment basically saying I'm a liar is exact proof that she has no concept of real customer service. People actually use Yelp to determine who they are going to go to and the fact that you had reviews that were good (and most likely coaxed) is a let down for the rest of us who use Yelp to determine good quality service. You can call me a liar but everything I said was FACT and I have plenty of people in your neighborhood who knew about my experience the day I left your shop. You may have noticed that the "happy customer" you described did NOT LEAVE a review after getting my hair done at your place, despite the fact that I clearly leave reviews for other good experiences. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of going against my judgement that day and instead of leaving an HONEST review of the lacking service, I decided that your Sunday availability made your high prices for less than par service worth it. The only person I lied to was myself. NO cosmetology school would consider it hygienic to try and NOT wash hair that has been braided up for over a month and then re-braid it. As I'm sure you know wefted extensions also get dirty so sewing them back in unwashed is also NOT hygienic. Thank you for mentioning your loyal customers of 20 years, I'm sure those are the only repeat customers you get. Thrilled for your success! Initial post: My work schedule changed and I just moved from the city to Fremont. With those two changes being a factor, seeing that Fatima's shop was open on Sunday's and had good reviews immediately stood out to me. When I contacted her on yelp for an appt and pricing she was super responsive and even though her prices were a little steep ($55 for a hair take down) her Sunday availability was enough to say yes. I've been wearing weaves for over 15 years and I can tell you Sunday availability is virtually unheard of with Black hair care shops. I made the appt a week in advance and the day before she's asks me to push my appt to a later time, okay no big deal at least she gave me a heads up. When I get there she is a little late which she doesn't say anything about. As she proceeds to start taking my hair down she's asks if I'd recently washed my weave and I told her yes, a few days before so then she says my hair seems pretty clean and was it necessary to wash my hair once she took it down. Uhhh my hair has been up in braids for over a month and you are charging me top dollar for my take down but don't want to wash my hair? I told her I still needed my hair washed and she reluctantly said okay. She brushed my hair like I was a rag doll and when it came time to start my braids she left so much hair out that I asked about braiding some of it- she said that she was leaving the hair that had already been clearly left out before. She also tried to say that's how much of my hair I needed to leave it if I wanted my hair to be able to be in pony tails. After the braiding I want to reuse my weave hair (which I had told her prior to coming in) and it was clear that she decided she wasn't going to wash that either and just sewed it in unwashed. She also poked me a few times with her needle. Most of my experience was with her barely talking to me. I don't know if I caught her on a bad day, but even when she was done braiding she did not style or straighten my hair. When I asked her about that she looked surprised and said she usually did not do that but would do it for me- like she was doing me a favor. The only time she was super friendly was when it was time to pay. All in all I definitely felt like Fatima was skilled with braiding and weaving, but that she just seemed like she thought her skills were enough to not have to do the basic things that should be included with her service. Again, she was open on Sunday's and my hair still held up so I figured the next time I would give it another try but take out and wash my own hair. Also, she left so much hair out this last time in the back and part of the sides that I was Bobby pining my own hair up from the start-again an easy fix. Flash forward to today and it's been less than a month and half since she did my hair. I go to use the style seat app she told me about- the pricing now $200 for a weave with a Closure. I also notice some of the prices she gave me before are different since I saw a different price for the take down in her shop and on her style seat app. She told me sorry but the prices went up and that the price with a closure or without ( because I don't wear a closure) was the same price! I'm sorry but her service is lacking, it's clear she makes prices based on what she wants at the time and that's a horrible way to get and keep clientele. I will obviously not be making another appt with her. I want to be clear the three stars is based on her actual service, not her raising her prices. The raising of prices is what made me realize that With everything else, it would not be worth going back. read more

Fatima did a really good job on my kinky twists but I had two issues: 1) she was almost an hour late to my appointment - I had to drive an hour and a half so it would have been nice to know before 15 minutes before my scheduled appointment time that she was running late. She kept saying that she would be there soon but soon kept getting later and later. She had just moved and had a little baby that she was also tending to so I completely understood that things come up and, it wasn't so much her being so late - just that she didn't do a good job of keeping me updated or letting me know exactly how late she was running behind. Again, this was when she had just moved to where her shop is now and, judging by how nice and professional she was, I'd chalk this up to something that likely doesn't happen too often. The only other issue that I had was that I asked for shoulder length kinky twists and they were all the way down my back. My head is small and I hate feeling like I have a head full of weave. Fatima did ask me when she started if the length was okay and, thinking it would be a little shorter I told her yes, as long when you curl it up it is right at my shoulders. I should have asked her to cut it from the beginning. Other than that, Fatima was really professional and the braids were very neat. I don't like gel so I asked her not to use any in my hair and she was okay with that. I think I would go to Fatima again, but for a style other than kinky twists. read more

The service and communication was horrible. She said she will charge $25 per track and on booking it said $20. I got two tracks but charged me for 4 because she doubled tracked the hair . Every time I get my tracks done elsewhere , they fold the tracks and the sew them. She cut the tracks and sewed it on top of other tracks so she can make money and say she put in 4 tracks .On top of that , she attitude has not positive at all , it was like she is being forced to do her job . I called her very last minute because the I got my hair braided in San Leandro and the braids were so tight I had red bumps around one of the braids. Although, I have only been to her twice when my stylist was unavailable, she has been the BEST to come to when I needed her, even at the last minute.
