EYE PLUS UPDATE: I maintain that this pretty little boutique delivers not only overpriced and manipulative sales practices but also delivers a poorer quality lens than my previous supplier. They charge and make you visit them more times than necessary (and also bills your insurance for them), forces you pretty much to order the lens from them thru their packaged deals and then delivers to you an inferior contact lens product that you are stuck with. Yes, stuck! What are the alternatives? Go BACK THERE, complain and HAVE THEM CHARGE FOR YET ANOTHER VISIT? I THINK NOT!!! The visit I had with Dr. Makini the year prior was even more ridiculous...but they were for eye glass prescription. That story would take more than an hour to critique so I won't get into it. It took longer than an houy in the exam room to get out but the script worked for me. Dr. Makini will never realize what he put my husband & me thru. (who was suffering with stage 4 cancer and was an anesthesiologist who has since passed away). This is exhausting and all terribly sad. DON'T GO TO HIM! read more

I found Eyes Plus about 7 years ago while walking around Kapolei Shopping Center trying to figure out what to eat. Instead of eating, I went back to work with a new pair of glasses (actually got it about 2 weeks later). Eyes Plus had a very nice selection of frames to choose from. The office set up is different from other places. The interior design was great and furnishings were nice too. Fast forward to today. I needed another pair of glasses and found they moved to new location. Went to look again and the interior set up again was wonderful with sleek furnishings and other nice touches. Met with Alexis who was so sweet and patient and again went back to work with not 1 but 2 pairs of glasses (got 1, waiting on the second). So impressed with their selection and of course Alexis, I brought my husband to get a new pair too, just 1 for him, lol! What really impressed me was Alexis. Dr Makini is The Best! He has helped my son since he was very young which he was able to identify issues that I did not share until after the appointment. He works closely with my son to ensure he has the best eye care. He has also works for us by letting the Teachers know what his findings were because of issues they raised. Well as I told the Teachers, let me introduce you to Dr Makini which he emailed them information which made the teachers realize my Son does NOT have ADHD or ADD. He has a wonderful team of staff. I had a great time choosing my Progressive glasses with their expert opinion on what would look best for me. The staff is so friendly that I felt like I knew them for a long time. I came here hoping they could help me. I had a scratched cornea and in a lot of pain. Im from Chicago and on vacation so I didn't have an appointment and would have to be seen by walk-in. The receptionist, Susie, was by far the sweetest lady and was able to get me seen by Dr. Hank within 30 min! BY FAR the best place on the island! They saved my vacation and Dr Hank gave me extra contact lens just in case. I seriously owe it to this amazing team! read more

We went in to the Kapolei location in search of prescription frames for my wife, and upon a very brief welcome was told "we are closing the doors in two minutes for lunch". Nothing else, welcome and leave in two minutes to us. I know how much a complete pair of glasses can cost along with a possible second pair that we were considering as well, but not with a greeting like that. I also know very well what good customer service is. Which is not what we received as first impressions go a long way unfortunately. Coach your staff please so others aren't walking away with bad impressions I suggest. read more

Went there a few years ago for my child's glasses , the staff is very friendly and professional but when we ordered the glasses my child chose we waited 3 weeks for them to come and they were the wrong color. Somehow they ordered the wrong color so we had to wait another 2 weeks for them. , Also, my child says he can see better but still can't see clearly or see the chalkboard. Even though they were professional and friendly which I appreciate, they didnt get the job done . So we won't be going back to them . read more

FIRST TIME IS NOT A CHARM I recently moved to the Mehana neighborhood and was excited to know of all the businesses in the area. I was in search for an eye doctor and came across Eye Plus. I showed up for my appointment yesterday, which I was given a reminder call about, only to find out I was not on the schedule. Are you kidding me?! Fortunately they had a cancellation so they were able to fit me in within the hour. I was not happy about it but since I was already there, why not wait a little longer. To add on to my check in experience, the staff was not very friendly. I mean someone messed up on their end and it seemed as though fitting me in would be an inconvenience for them. Based on their initial attitude, I don't think they would've been that helpful had it not been for that cancellation but oh well. Finally I got to see Dr. Makini. He seemed really nice. We spoke a little about my eye history and any difficulties I was having visually. Then he began asking more personal questions which got me a feeling little uncomfortable. I found it extremely weird when he asked me specifically if I was married. I mean I didn't have my wedding ring on but wondered what was it any of his business. I think he got the hint when I began to respond with one word answers. At this point I was already over it but decided to stick it out for my exam. I mean how much weirder could it get? During my exam he got real close, I mean like way too close for my comfort so I adjusted my body making it obvious I was trying to keep some distance between us. I also caught him several times giving me "elevator eyes". Kind of creepy if you ask me. More than ever I could not wait till my appointment was over! Decent guy turned into a perv. Overall, Dr. Makini as well as his front staff could use a course in customer service etiquette and professionalism. This first experience was horrible and more than enough for me. I will not be coming back nor would I refer anyone else here. read more

Dr. Hank Makini does a great job making patients feel very comfortable (especially when your a new patient and feel a little nervous). Dr. Makini not only cares for the health of your eyes, but he also makes sure he educates you about it. Therefore, you not only feel relieved that your eyes are in good care, but you also have a better understanding of how your eyes work and will make you feel more confident when wearing eyewear. Dr. Makini also specializes with children, working with those that are having a hard time in school. Dr. has proven to raise students grades and focus better in and out of class. Last, but not least, the boutique at Eyes Plus Inc have a great variety in both men and women eyeglasses and sunglasses. There is also a section for kids eyeglasses. Overall, after the whole experience, you walk out with more than just satisfaction, but a better vision! read more

They are so wonderful. They always explain everything to my kids and they make sure that no one feels rushed.

I knew I needed glasses when I started to hate driving at night, but never got my eyes checked. It wasn't until I tried to renew my license at Kapolei DMV and failed the eye test miserably that I finally went to get my vision checked and this is one of the places they referred me to. Dr. Makini is super nice and always smiling. He is very passionate about his job. He doesn't just see you for your appointment and send you on your way, but he educates you, complete with a Power Point presentation. Some of you may find this boring and unnecessary, but his presentation made me wonder if I would've excelled more, say, in college, had I gotten a vision test a long time ago. For that reason, I also bring my son here, to which he recommends kids get their vision checked at a young age so problems can be corrected early rather than later when they grow up. (Like I did).
