Here is what happened: - They arrived three hours late, smelling like cannabis, with red eyes. It was obvious they were completely stoned. Later, when they packed the truck and were about to drive off to the new location, I came up to the truck's cabin to ask a question, and saw the driver and another mover sitting in the truck's cabin, smoking a joint (judging by the smell and the type of smoke). Not only is it unprofessional, it's extremely dangerous, especially driving a huge moving truck (a misdemeanor). All signs were pointing to the fact that this was not a freak occurrence, but their usual way of working. When I reached out to them, Vance (their boss) did not comment, whereas the driver said that he doesn't smoke cannabis, but he can't speak for his colleagues. Sadly, for the sake of road safety, I had to file a NYPD report. - It was a rainy day, and their truck was leaking a LOT. About two thirds of all boxes got wet (pictures attached). Some of them were soaked to the point of falling apart as you were carrying them. Many books of ours, as well as original artworks, paintings, our son's drawings and handwritten poems - all got badly damaged. In addition, a desk got pierced by some sharp object (pictures attached), and a pair of Sony headphones broke in half. When I reached out to Vance, their boss, he replied "Hi. Reach out to the foreman. They are responsible for the damages so they will have to take care of it. That's how we go about these situations." So I reached out to the foreman, and he replied that, because I was helping them with the boxes, I am as responsible as they are for the damages, so they won't reimburse anything. I asked if I'm responsible for their truck leaking water (most of the damage was water damage), but my question went without a reply. - Throughout the move, they were extremely slow. In total, it took them about 12 hours to move our 600-square-feet 2BR apartment. They finished around midnight. Four years ago, when we hired Advanced Moving Pros, it took them less than 6 hours. - We had three plants that were supposed to be moved to the new place. Once they packed the truck, one of the movers told me that "they can't take the plants because there's no more room". I later noticed they took one of our large drawers on the truck which was supposed to be thrown away (garbage) - but one of the movers said "Oh, I'm keeping it, that's for me." Had he not kept our drawer, there would have been room for at least two of our plants. So yeah, I would recommend you stay away from these guys. Highly unprofessional, and frankly, dangerous and illegal behavior. They damage your property, and instead of apologizing, they blame it on you (!)

When I offered disposable masks and gloves they declined and said they had their own. Two of them ended up wearing bandanas and one person put gardening gloves on. By the time they got the furniture to the new place I had a cracked bookshelf, scratched furniture, a broken lamp (they ripped off the light bulb with the socket, instead of untwisting the lamp), missing screws and a broken front door to the old place (they removed the door to move bigger furniture, when reinstalled the door would not close). They were supposed to refund a portion of the moving costs to fix/replace the damaged furniture and repair the broken door. After a week dodging my calls and messages, they finally responded after I posted a negative review to their thumbtack. Jose, the team lead had the nerve to tell me he did not appreciate the negative review, when he was the one ignoring my communications. Two months after the move, they refunded 2/3 of what they owed back. It has been another 3 months since and they are still not refunding the last 1/3. Vance, the owner is still not responding to my communications, much less Jose, the team lead who was present the day of the move. If you want to spare yourself the trouble of dealing with such unprofessional and dishonest people, find another moving company. DO NOT WASTE YOU TIME OR MONEY WITH THESE FOLKS.

Shopping for a moving company can be a challenge. From first contact til we completed the move, Seamens was super helpful and professional every step of the way, and, by the way, came highly recommended by my new building as a suggested moving company. Many moving companies quote prices by the items you have, and provide a flat rate based on those items, which could increase or decrease on the day of the move. Seamens prices based on the hour, with a 4 hour labor minimum (and 1 hour min drive time). For certain types of moves, such as a large 1 bedroom like mine, this worked out perfectly for me. Once we got the ball rolling with their Sales team (Mike is awesome and patient), they provided the COI to the new building, and everything was super smooth. They showed up slightly early on move day, and was ready to go at the agreed time. The foreman (Oscar) was very knowledgable, professional, and communicated well throughout the move to his team, and to us as the customer. The team was careful with my belongings, and respectful to the property of both the pickup building and delivery building. I would definitely recommend Seamens for any NYC move.

Would have been much more helpful if this is disclosed in the beginning. All buildings require COIs. Additionally, a much more timely response, either yes or now is very important to customers to avoid last minute scrambling to find a different moving company to finish the job. No amount of discounts or under market pricing is worth this poor service.

If you need affordable movers then I'd recommend Sanho but keep in mind if your destination building or landlord requires COI, then you'll need to look elsewhere.

Whenever I emailed asking for a quote, Bobby always got back to me very quickly. They're often able to fit an insanely impressive amount of items and furniture into their moving vehicle. They are lightning fast to come in, assess, shrink wrap large items, and get them out the door. Everything from couches to vinyl records and dishes have stayed in one piece. After being pretty badly ripped off by another moving company when I first arrived in New York, it's a relief to know that Bobby and his team are honest, work hard as hell, and charge fair rates. I thought the job was gonna take 3-4 hours, they did it in 2. Meaning they arrived at 8am, and were out at 10am, even with parking and travel. Before your move date, I highly recommend you contact your local parking authority to get "No Parking" signs beforehand, and consolidate as much stuff into as few boxes / bags as possible. (Extra large trash bags can come in really handy.). Pre-pack as much as you can 2-3 weeks in advance too. Last, I recommend you offer waters / snacks, and I think tipping guideline is about $20 / mover per 2 hours (they certainly deserved it). Thanks!!

Every time I called the customer service could not answer my questions and my boxes looked like they were thrown around. Both the people who packed and unpacked were hard working but I was overall disappointed. They called me on the day of the move and tried to increase the price despite multiple calls prior to get an accurate assessment with the sales woman. I have not written a review before but I suggest proceeding with caution and taking your valuables separately. Also please know they took the full time window for this move from NYC to Florida so prepare for a few nights on a blow up mattress.

Showed up almost 2 hours late, damaged a $300 chair they couldn't be bothered to wrap in a blanket…read more They could not disassemble a table because they didn't bring a full set of allen wrenches. The good news is, I was able to dig out my own set for them. The bad news is I'm still waiting for it back. I didn't even want to ask them to reassemble it in the new location. If I had, thought, I might still have the hardware it came with which they also took. Lest you think the damage was limited to the furniture, don't worry. They also dropped a box containing imported olive oil and red wine vinagrette which would have made a nice salad, if it weren't busy being a threat to life and limb for days, while their (admittedly hilarious) attempts to shove a modestly-sized couch down a hallway is surely a mortal threat to my security deposit. They should change their name to four F's for FFFFFFFFFFForget you.
