Stopped here for dinner after the movies one night because we were craving some Mexican food and we both loved it. It's hard to find street parking but there's a garage connected to the back of the building for the most part. The entrance is off of Eola Dr just north of central. My go to drink with Mexican is a Jalapeño margarita and it was great. It was the perfect amount of sour with a decent amount of spiciness. We started off with the Trio dip and it was awesome. You get to try guac, salsa and queso with plenty of chips to devour it all down. I honestly thought they were all really good and highly recommend it. For my entree I had the chicken/cheese quesadilla it was very good. The portion was slightly large with plenty stuffed inside. It came with the lettuce, pico and sour cream which is always a great pair for it. My girlfriend had the steak and shrimp Fajitas which were super tasty. Two thumbs up for F&D Cantina in Thornton Park! We stopped in for an early dinner last week before heading to a concert downtown. Parking in Thornton Park is kind of a pain in the butt, there is no getting around that. It's just something you have to deal with. But that aside, this location sits on the corner on the building so it includes a beautifully decorated outdoor patio both in front and on the side. Hanging lights and tropical plants galore add to the already fun and colorful Mexican decor. I would really enjoy hanging out again in that space. Inside is equally as gorgeous with incredibly ornate woodwork and lighting throughout. The custom murals are like those you've probably seen at other F&D locations. I suspect the artist is quite prolific throughout O-Town because I've seen a lot of similar murals lately. The host told us their name, but I regretfully did not commit it to memory. Our server was super friendly and attentive. His first recommendation was right up my alley. A steak and sweet plantain quesadilla. I love sweet plantains and anything sweet & savory so I didn't even need to look any further because that was all me. It was delicious, but I do with there was more plantains. For cocktails we started with some margaritas. I did a strawberry basil margarita that was good, but not so amazing that I would order it again. There are lots of different ones to choose from so I look forward to testing more next time. I also split a Mexican Old Fashioned with Mr. S for our 2nd drink since we were both interested in trying that one. Very good, very strong. I only wish I'd have tasted the Mezcal more. We don't necessarily go to Thornton Park that often, but now that we know how good F&D is, I suspect we will be there more often. Sweet potato butternut squash mole enchiladas - Great taste!! Love the little bit of kick as well. Not very filling but the plantains were a nice addition and the beans had great substance and texture despite not much flavor Floridian fish taco - flavor was mild but very hearty. Rice was good. Strawberry basil margarita - YES! 5 stars! Great flavor and packed a punch. Four Roses Old Fashioned - meh. Too strong and nowhere near a typical OF taste. Would not order again. I'd try the Mexican one to check the smokey flavor. Pomegranate margarita - it was okay. Not very sweet and minimal flavor... This place is gorgeous! Large eatery with indoor and outdoor seating. Upon entrance, the hosts were friendly and eager to help. We were seated quickly and greeted by our wonderful server, Michael. Everything we ordered was delicious and easy to share. We ordered Puffy tacos, F&D Trio, Chicken Tortilla Soup (spicy), Chicken fajitas, Steak fajitas, Crab & Shrimp Enchiladas, and Churros. It was my first time trying a Puffy Taco (ask for extra napkins), and it was my favorite! The Ambiance is warm, and lively; with an interior decor that gives off great energy. After walking by this area and seeing it about to open for a while, I was happy to finally be able to try it out for dinner! As a note, they've only been open for a few weeks so wait times were a bit long and there were no reservations available for dinner- only walk ins. With that being said we were still able to get a table outside fairly quickly, but that might've also been because it was freezing cold that night :) But there were plenty of space heaters that kept us warm! We ended up trying out the queso as a starter which was a nice way to start the meal and they refilled the chips once we were low. I ended up getting the beef Barbacoa tacos which were pretty good. The beef was well braised and juicy, and the pickles and cheese toppings were nice compliments to the tacos. I was hoping for a little bit more flavor from the black beans side but it was still good. Overall F&D Cantina has a nice atmosphere and great service and I look forward to stopping by here again! read more

F&D Cantina Thornton Park is a restaurant in the Thornton Park area and while the interior of this restaurant is absolutely stunning, the food still comes in as rather bland and uninspired. Not only was the food mediocre (and that is a kind assessment), but it is definitely overpriced. The staff is friendly and professional and again, the atmosphere is great. Brunch was incredibly limited - if one person orders bottomless food, then everyone at the table has to, which really restricts you to a small brunch menu. I found something I wanted on the non-bottomless menu, but the taquitos couldn't be customized at all, so I ended up just getting a drink and no food. To make things worse, the birthday table next to us (20+ people) was so loud and drunk that we could barely hear each other even when yelling. Overall, it was a pretty miserable experience. Visited F&D cantina for the first time for a friend's birthday. It was a Saturday night and it was surprisingly not super packed which was great. I ended up ordering the taquitos starter and it was the perfect amount to be my meal. As well as the chips dip trio. Delicious! Drinks were great... everyone in our group had different ones and all loved them. The ambiance is dark and gothic Mexican style which was pretty cool and just set the vibes to be super chill. We were a party of 12 and he was really organized, gave good recommendations and our food also came out really fast. I got the carne asada tacos and they were good. It was the worst service I have experienced in a long time. The manager had to step in to take our drink AND food order. The bartender with the pony tail insulted my outfit when we asked for some napkins. Dinner plates that we were done with sat in front of us for a half hour after all three bartenders glanced at it and kept walking. From someone who has bartended for years this was an embarrassment. This place is just going downhill. New bottomless brunch is a good idea but of course they have no idea how to execute it successfully. We gave them another try after a terrible experience for Father's Day. Then, they were unable to make a Bloody Mary and the PAPER menu had menu items that we ordered but had not been available for months according to server...it's a paper menu! Reprint it! This time, I was not allowed to order the new brunch buffet because my husband didn't want it and they are afraid of sharing. What?! You are managing the execution of your menu based on what you are afraid your guests are gonna do and you're assuming they're going to do the wrong thing? Just add a sharing fee at the same price if you catch people sharing and let them know upfront. Silly. Will never be back. And the place is empty every time I walk by so doubt they will be here that much longer anyway unless they start treating guests better. This place is delicious! I had gone when they first opened this location and tried brunch. It was good but the rest of their menu is what really shines. I recently went on a Tuesday for Taco Tuesday. I love the w deal they have. You can get 2 for $5 or 5 for $10. Definitely recommend getting 5. They are smaller about the size of your palm so they're easy to eat. The fish tacos are SOOOO GOOD and are my top pick. You must always get the dip trio! It comes with guac, your choice of salsa, and a delicious queso. Next up, the margaritas. They are quite yummy! The house marg is what I always get and I believe they are on tap and they are the perfect balance of lime and tequila. I can go in on multiple of these. I believe at happy hour they are $6. I ordered the sweet potato and butternut squash enchiladas that had a mole sauce on top which was a dark brown (almost black). It was accompanied by very burnt (almost black) plantains and black beans. So it looked to me at first glance like a plate of slop. So much to choice from the menu and the plates that were coming out looked amazing. I went with the steak and plantain quesadillas, and I have never had something like it. The sweetness of the plantains with the saltiness of the steak is one of my favorite combos, sweet/salty. I love the art and similar yet different it is in each F &D. We came here for brunch because the other restaurant that we had originally wanted to go to didn't allow dogs, but I ended up really liking F&D cantina! The food was good and the portions were large! It wasn't super brunchy in my opinion but definitely a good lunch or anything to eat later place, and if I were in he area I would definitely come back! The inside looked really interesting but we sat outside of course because we had a dog, and that was really nice too. The wait staff were attentive but didn't seem to be rushing us in any way. They have really good fajitas, margaritas, tacos, and burritos, with fillings from traditional meats, beyond meat, and vegan cheeses. We came here with a small group and got a variety of dishes and loved them all! Small mishap with an overcooked meat, but it was quickly resolved with care by the friendly staff.
