This is my new breakfast fav. I love the bacon, I love the hash browns. And those crunchie toasts.. Omg. And the mini doughnuts for dessert... That was my first time eating doughnuts in a restaurant. They were awesome. I'm glad it's so close to home too. Definitely recommend this place. And I can't forget about the staff.. They are very friendly and love their jobs. [Table to Mouth] **4.5 Stars** I'm a huge fan of Breakfast but waking early isn't easy. As such, I love places that serve breakfast food well into the afternoon. Sunday afternoon rolls around and I find a perfect excuse to head down. I love the interior - If Fable and an old school diner had a love child, Fable Diner would be it. I peruse the menu and settle on the avocado/tomato benny while my other half decided on the Heuvos Rancheros. As tempting as it was, I passed on a milkshake in an attempt to maintain my girlish figure. After a few bites, I realized the food was nothing short of amazing. The eggs were perfectly done and every bite tasted like heaven in a mouthful. Although the Huevos Rancheros isn't something I'd typically order, I loved it as well. At $15 per entree, it was reasonably priced given the quantity and quality. Service was excellent as well. Our server was friendly and quickly attended to our needs. However, they're still out the kinks associated with a new restaurant which is the reason for the half-star deduction. Upon ordering, we discovered sausages, sourdough, and one of the milkshake flavors were out of stock. At the end, the payment system was down so we had to sit tight for a bit. Not really big issues and I'm sure they'll be ironed out soon if they haven't already. So if you haven't already been, go check it out. read more

We have always been huge fans of Trevor Bird, and I previously l wrote a "fable" about his first restaurant. I was slightly disappointed by my last visit to Fable, however, but I was excited to try his new diner, which clearly proved that his food is a tasty, solid Vancouver, culinary experience. So we stopped by his cute, clean retro diner in the perfect hipster part of town off Broadway and Main. I was impressed by the extremely clean bathrooms, cool light fixtures, wallpaper and unique lighting. Service was spotty but friendly. Ordered: Classic burger; tasty but over salted. Fries were incredible and hot. With a bit of adjustment, I could see this being the diner favourite, but it still needs a bit of work to match a classic American burger. Grilled cheese- delicious, served with a simple diner salad. Portions were all on the smaller side for a diner, but certainly of superb quality. We ordered traditional food but I would like to try some of Bird's other creative dishes! Coffee- typical diner fare but not bad and served in a clean cup like all of the other food. Water was continuously filled which was a nice bonus. Overall, a fine place with a great atmosphere and I would recommend that you give it a go. read more

Come in on a drizzly night and order the ketchupless cottage pie. It comes in a small iron skillet, super hot and very tasty. The hubby ordered a pulled pork sandwich with poutine and was quite satisfied. The milkshakes are well worth the $8, thick and delicious. The fabled virgin was a bit tart and I wouldn't order it again but this wouldn't stop me from returning and trying some of the other yummy sounding menu options! We've been here a few more times now since our first visit and I think it's time that I update my review. First off, let me start by saying they've made great improvements with menu, food and service. Tonight we came by for dinner. I had the FD burger with fries and a "pony & mule". Wife had the fried chicken with a side salad and a coffee milkshake. My burger this time was much better. Medium well is how they say they would cook the patties and I was definitely ok with that. I would prefer medium, but with all the health codes that are in our system, I know that the restaurant have their hands tied. Either way, my burger and fries were very nicely done. You can see the pictures that was posted of the first visit compared to now. We've had their fried chicken bennies several times at breakfast, so we obviously like it. They offer it on its own as an appy at dinner, but it makes a great meal when paired with a side salad or veggie. My wife and I have always wanted to try the milkshake. We mostly only have come by for breakfast and a shake first thing in the morning is just not our thing, but tonight we had our chance. It was yummy. The coffee flavor was subtle, but we loved the buttery cookie crumble on top. Our only regret was that we should have ordered it after our meal. By the time we finished our meal, the milkshake had melted, was very liquidy and wasn't as cold anymore. We'll definitely just get it as a dessert next time. read more

Tried it out today and thought everything was average. Not too many options on the menu, specially if you're looking for something vegetarian. I heard the fries were amazing, and they were the same as everywhere else. I had the grilled cheese and thought it was ok... The bread was burnt on one side. We had the chickpea fritters to start and they were also very average. Things are a bit overpriced for what you get as well. Can't say I'm impressed and don't think I'd go back. read more

I'd seen Fable Diner under renovations a couple weeks back and had been eagerly awaiting for its opening. My first visit did not disappoint. The diner and cutlery were clean, staff came by many times to ask how the food was, and the meal itself (I ordered a Fable Burger) was very savoury. At $15, it is a bit pricey to be eating this every lunch break, and the burger itself does not include cheese or bacon ($1-2 extra). Do note service charge is included on the final bill already, so anyone who has trouble calculating tips can rejoice. There was a mistake with my bill; I was charged $2.70 for service. I brought this up with the staff and they were very apologetic, explained it was an issue with the machine, and offered me a refund. Overall, very satisfied with my visit, and will be returning to try other menu items. Hopefully they can maintain good service when the place is busier. read more

Shhhh! I really want to keep Fable for myself but it was too good not to share. We decided to go for brunch on a whim. Joined the dine in waitlist while we were all at our own homes. By the time we had met up, we had moved from 5th in line to 2nd. A bit of a long wait but the virtual feature is so handy! Then the food!!! The prohibition brunch is amazing! They've gone above and beyond to spoil diners. Not only do you get the standard coffee or tea, but you can also get another drink, either a cocktail or massive milkshake! Entrees were delicious; the duck pancakes were the winner. Little extras like muffins to start and warm cookies to end made the $25 worth it. We were all stuffed! There is a lot of construction outside at the moment, but don't let that put you off as I didn't find it noisy. The Mac and cheese was great as was the vanilla milk shake. Fable Dunner never disappointed us. The first time I came here with my boyfriend to celebrate my birthday a few years ago. During that time they have a menu of a whole crab with spicy/Thai sauce, it was delicious. We also ordered another main course and a two appetizers including the famous duck meatball. A year later, my boyfriend want to celebrate his birthday at Fable again, he was looking forward to order the crab again but unfortunately their menu has changed. We ordered one of the daily special, butcher cut steak and two more appetizers. Overall, both experience are positive, we were pleased with the food and the service. Servers were well presented the plate and named all the ingredients in the dish when it was served. Highly recommended this restaurant, might need to make an appointment before you come. read more

Always fantastic customer service at Fable Diner! Third time here and always trying different items off the menu. We came here for dinner last night. The fried chicken burger was perfectly fried. I really enjoyed the gnocchi dish as I don't like the gnocchi to be soaked in the sauce. They do give enough sauce if you want to soak it. As well, lots of vegetables added to the dish. The wait wasn't bad on a Saturday at 11AM (about twenty minutes) even though it was quite busy. I think since they have a fair amount of seating, the turnover is reasonably fast. I like how the restaurant has kept a diner feel while still being clean and modern. I liked the retro booths along with the bar seating, the artwork and their specials up on the walls. I ordered the Ho-lee breakfast for $19, which comes with potato rosti, toast, a pancake, thick cut bacon, ham (or sausage), 3 eggs and beans. Everything was cooked and seasoned well, and I appreciated that the server asked our preference of thick cut bacon or regular bacon. The only thing I wasn't a huge fan of was the jam as it was on the sour side. I think this is a solid choice for brunch and I would recommend to give it a try. However, this restaurant is on the pricier side, and at that price point there is a lot of competition when it comes to brunch. read more

I really thought I was going to love this place but unfortunately it fell short. They did have a line up when we got there, but it moved really fast, which is great, partly because they have alot of room. It is super busy in here but it won't take ages to get a seat. I did like the causal comfy ambiance. It was a nice sunny day so it was really bright inside. The food was good but not great. I ordered the All day breakfast plate. They really should mention that they give you back bacon, and not traditional strips. So that's one less thing I'm gonna eat. The rest was made well but not the greatest breakfast I've had. Onto service, which was sub par. It took my waiter forever to come over, get anything, even my bill. It was really annoying. They need to step it up or my feet will rarely step through these doors again lol. read more

I happened to be in the neighborhood for dinner so why not try Fable Diner since I enjoy their other restaurant Fable quite a bit. The decor here is definitely different than Fable as its Diner style- in fact it almost reminded me of White Spot with servers passing us by with milkshakes and their "extras" in the metal containers, padded booth seating, and saw several kids (including mine). Of course the menu was totally different though with some burger options but also some other unique dishes you won't connect as Diner food. The 2 of us got: - Roast Duck Pancakes ($12) with the Kimchi giving it quite a kick! The pancake was quite big and a good starter to share, definitely too big for me to eat alone if I wanted to try anything else. - Chick Pea Fritters ($6) starter recommended by our server. It came with 4 pieces but I found them a bit dry and hard to swallow. I think they have the same/similar dish in Fable that's executed better there. - Pulled Pork Sandwich ($10) that came with choice of fries/salads/soup. I think this was the best deal and tastiest of our meal. The onion ring in it gave it a nice crunch. And the Tomato soup I opted for as a side was sooo satisfying. Overall the food was about 3.5 and my friend who lives in the area felt it was pricier for what it is. But I enjoyed it and also felt the service was excellent! I've been here a couple times and the decor and seats inside are super cute and really matches the diner theme. I've tried the peanut butter milkshake and it's very good!! One of my favourite milkshakes. I've had. It's topped with pretzels and Nutella and the whip cream on top is delicious. They also give you the extra milkshake in a tin cup along with the glass! Food wise I've had the grilled cheese with tomato soup and their roasted duck pancake! Their grilled cheese was very gooey and the bread was grilled perfectly. I thought it was almost too rich for me but it was perfect with the tomato soup! The roasted duck pancake was topped with kimchi, kewpie and green onions. I really liked the addition of the kimchi as I thought it was very creative while also making the pancake sweet and savoury. However, let's stop the games when it comes to bread and only serving one slice. Who do you think you are? Because I'll tell you who you're not, Christopher Columbus. Serving less than two slices of toast is like trying to convince the Pope there is no afterlife, it's a sin. So don't explore the topic any further. Their inventive milkshakes are good for at least a hundred likes on the gram. As John Travolta was bewildered by the five dollar milkshake, he would be confounded but appeased by Fables eight dollar shakes. But inflation right? We're all done. So try and sneak in before the rush hits or you'll be waiting in a line bigger than Tony Montana's nose could handle. read more

I appreciate Fable Diner's light twist on classic diner dishes. My friends and I shared the chickpea fritter which was honestly, just okay. If you wanna eat mashed fried chickpeas, falafels are better though I did like the pea shoots. I ordered the meatloaf with came with 'mashed' potatoes (more like puréed potatoes) and puréed carrot. It was topped with onion crisps and chunks of blue cheese that went surprisingly well with the meatloaf. The meatloaf itself was excellent, very tender. The flavour was good but I preferred it with hot sauce (which they had on every table). I also got the chocolate PB milkshake and I think I would've preferred a stronger chocolate flavour. It looked really cute with generous Nutella flavoured whipped cream and 3 pretzels stuck in them but I've had better milkshakes. The diner itself was cute, clean, and the service was very friendly. I do think it's pricey for diner food but I suppose that comes from their whole local, fresh farm ingredients philosophy. read more

Not bad for a diner I'd say. If you want something relatively light and simple, try the no frills Reno's burger. While not exactly a steal at $8, you can't go wrong with it. I visited this location for the first time with a breakfast pal recently and I was really impressed. Smiley, happy server, Erin looked after us really well and the food and coffee was excellent also! She sat us away from the noisier parts of the room in a booth. There I could see into the open kitchen, which is always nice to see and they did my trucker's breakfast perfect to my order, busy as it was. The music in the house was good. Alright, listen up dummies. This place is brunch magic. MAGIC. The food is incredible, the prices are beyond reasonable, they have fancy alcoholic milkshakes on the menu, and the ambiance is a lovely hipster/retro combo. Get the veggie benny already. They are bananas busy but run a seriously tight game so don't even worry about it. Expect a wait, but not one that will kill you. Honestly, the humans that work here are magnificent. This place is the bomb! The food here blew my mind. My friend and I each ordered a drink (they have kombucha cocktails) and shared the fried chicken bennie and roasted duck pancake. Both were insanely delicious and enough to lick the plate clean. The fried chicken was battered just the right amount, boneless, and super crispy yet not greasy. The roasted duck pancake had a good amount of duck to pancake to sauce ratio. I can see what the rage is all about with Fable Diner, and will be back to try more items! Went to Fable Diner for the first time after seeing good reviews about the place. When we arrived for brunch around 1pm, we waited in line to get seated. We thought it would take long but we got seated after 10 mins and ordered Bennies for brunch. The hostess and server were both very friendly and nice but the food was just okay. I ordered the scone, crunchy spicy chicken benedict but the chicken was too dry and hard. I had to eat the chicken separately as I was not able to cut through it with my knife. I came here on a Sunday for brunch with my family- surprisingly we didn't need to wait very long for a table , my kids had fun rummaging though the "free bin" at the thrift store next to table while we waited. I have been waiting to be off keto to come back here. Although there are plenty of keto options, the potato rostie is to die for and an absolute must on any visit here. My favourite meal is the simple 2 eggs breakfast. Comes with eggs, toast and delicious jam, a potato rostie with sour cream and you can add a huge thick cut of bacon (totally worth it) that's the size of a steak! If you are a breakfast person you will love this place. Cheap, good quality food in a really well layed out and decorated space. The only downside is the lack of parking but with a little searching there are spots near by, some of which are free for 2 hours. This place is absolutely on my must munch list! read more

We had waited for our food for 20 mins., turns out the order didn't reach the kitchen. Then we waited for another 20 mins, still the food was not ready. The server told us the food will be ready in 10 mins. So the total time we wait for our two breakfasts was an hour. If we didn't check, they didn't even know the order was lost. read more

Favourite dish hands down is the pulled pork sandwich. Weekend menu my favourite dish is the pulled pork bennie. I've tried the hash and eggs...very disappointing. The potatoes are all deep fried so it's not your usual softer potatoes. Nothing wrong with deep fried but over half my potatoes were over cooked and too hard. Love their milkshakes but extremely filling so I always get the milkshake to share. Favourite favour to date is their strawberry, can't go wrong with classic. Soups they make are also very delicious, we go almost once a week and I have never been disappointed by the soup! They don't take reso's for lunch so the wait can be quite long (30 minutes minimum) on the weekend. read more

This place is amazing!! I ordered a Mother's Day brunch/breakfast special to go and I was blown away. Not only was the food delicious but the portions were nice and generous. Nothing bothers me more when the portion is so tiny so I was grateful for the generous amount of food. I had a issue about a charge and the staff here were friendly,polite and addressed my issue in a timely manner. The delivery guy was polite, professional and the food was warm. I wish I could have tipped more but I thought I would come on here and write a nice review since they made our Mother's Day one to remember and I'm so grateful! We ate at 6pm on a Thursday night. It wasn't busy, and we were seated right away. Friend had the meatloaf with mash and veggies; I had the Cobb Salad. Can't say anything about the meatloaf, but my friend really enjoyed it. He was satisfying his 'comfort food' craving. I really enjoyed the Cobb Salad - filling, fresh, just enough sauce. Yum, i'd be back for some more. Then we had the dessert of the day - oreo ganache. The cracker base was slightly hard, but the oreo ganache itself was delicious. Came here for brunch with my bf on a Saturday morning. The diner was quite busy but we lucky to be seated even though it was at the bar. My bf wanted to order their fried chicken benedict with their homemade cheese and jalapeno biscuits but he can't have cheese so he ended up having their pulled duck pancake with kimchi on top. It may sound weird but it was very good. I had their west coast toast which was a piece of toasted sourdough with mashed up avocado on top, smoked salmon, pickled onions and arugula. The toast was quite tough to cut into but other than that, it was very light and tasty. I didn't want anything heavy because I was going to my aunt's house to celebrate my cousin's baby and there was going to be food there. Overall, food was good and staff were super friendly. Pretty disappointed with their thanksgiving day dinner. First off they had a sign outside saying wait here for hostess (covid times)... we waited 15 min and nobody ever came out (even tho several people saw us standing beside the sign in the cold). Finally I just walked in and the hostess was just standing behind the podium which isn't visible from the outside door. On to dinner.. they honestly gave the smallest portion of turkey I've ever seen on a plated dinner and the pumpkin pie ($5 extra) wasn't actually a slice of pie, It was a very small, flat square (imagine a lemon square). I came here with a friend for lunch, baby in tow, and got a great little seat by the window. I love both seating (more space for bags!) and the hostess also pointed out a nearby basket of kiddie toys. My baby is still pretty little and prefers licking things so I saved all you future diners' kids from a layer of my child's saliva.
