Visited a few weeks ago and we went all in with the Trucker's Breakfast and I couldn't resist their avocado Benny (plus crispy bacon on top, of course). Comfort food done right in the heart of Vancouver. Parking (there's a lot of construction in the area so plan ahead! We ended up parking in a paid parking lot across the street). Ambiance 4.5/5 Food 4.5/5 (the potatoes and eggs Benny needed a bit of salt) Service 4.5/5

Dine Out Vancouver menu wasn't that thrilling
    Deb C.

So I originally had Fable Diner on my bucket list for rösti potatoes, but forgot all about that when my friend suggested it for Dine Out Vancouver. Now that I look at the menu again, maybe it was available at another location. The Dine Out menu was $34 and I actually wasn't that jazzed about anything other than the salmon entrée but I can make that dish at home by myself so I opted instead for the regular set menu. I got Crispy fried Brussels sprouts Duck Ravioli Flourless chocolate cake (ask for no mousse). My friend (who treated me) got the same set menu except she got the steak option as the only difference. She was disappointed in the steak but we both enjoyed everything else. I felt like the duck dish got a little too fatty near the end and instead of ravioli, I think I would have honestly just appreciated something like mashed potatoes to cut the richness and absorb some of the fat. I enjoyed the pork belly bits and the duck immensely - neither of which I'd make myself. The flourless chocolate cake was great, and actually lasted in the fridge until I could finish it three days later. Totally held up. Would not recommend the "mousse" that came with it though and I think that kind of wreaked havoc on my lactose-intolerant stomach later that night. Clean bathroom, great service. Would recommend coming for 5:30 since it gets busy. Little drafty inside so dress warmly.

Very busy location for brunch so make reservations. It's not too loud and service is good. Menu is big and lots to choose from with vegetarian options as well. Prices are decent and so are the portion sizes.

It's a great space, taking over for the ole greasy Reno and maintaining its diner vibe. Ultimately, the food didn't quite hit for us. Perhaps the name Fable has become so synonymous with elevated food that our food felt flat, but this food was not elevated it was simply okay. We expected a trendy diner experience with elevated food but the burger was a straightforward burger and basic fries. Big, filling, but nothing really standing out as special. Same can be said for the salad, which was huge, but wasn't particularly memorable. The saving grace really is that the prices are incredibly fair. $19.95 for a massive burger is great value and although I was expecting to be more impressed, it's hard to beat that price for size of food. Trivia night so it was loud, that's okay. The service was a pretty classic hipster-too-cool-too-care too much about us. Average but fine.

roast duck pancake, trucker breakfast, a chocolate milkshake and a side of pork belly with sherry gastrique
    Rosalyn L.

We came here for brunch on a Friday afternoon and ordered the roast duck pancake, trucker breakfast, a chocolate milkshake and a side of pork belly with sherry gastrique. The roast duck pancake and the pork belly were the highlights of the meal, and the milkshake also came as a huge portion as they also gave an extra metal cup with what couldn't fit in the glass. The eggs on the trucker breakfast were also scrambled beautifully. When we entered we noticed there was a long line at the front despite everyone in line already having a reservation and the restaurant being half empty. We noticed that multiple staff had seen the line but passed us and that all the people waiting in front of us had also been standing for quite a while and the line was starting to spill over near some of the diners who were trying to enjoy their meal. When we finally got seated it seemed they were short on servers for one side of the restaurant as the service was very slow and the server forgot a lot of the things we had requested, leading us to have to flag him down multiple times. We could see that the other diners near us were also waiting quite a while for their menus and even the bill. Overall, although the food was decent, the service could use some improvement. We probably wouldn't return unless it's to try out their famous prohibition weekend brunch.

A plus sized, well tattooed waitress with a bull nose ring was crushing hard at my brunch guest, while giving me the "why don't you die already" looks. Short abrupt unfriendly answers were met with every query. I get it, she thought my brunch guest was hot and was only acting on instincts. Didn't tell the poor waitress it was my birthday, why ruin her mental fantasy/cruelty..... The food was fine and exquisite. The place was swanky for a diner middle of nowhere on Broadway. Had the duck pancake, better than anticipated. Eating partner had the truckers' breakfast which she wasn't thrilled. Overall mixed feelings, I would have given the place much higher marks, if the heavy flirting was not present. I get it, "entitled" workers. Doubt will ever come back.

One of those places thats on your list but never get around to it!! Wow, I didn't know what I have been missing all these time!! Anyways, the interior reminds you of the "Good Old" 70's! Service is warm & friendly! Food is an updated version of a lot of the old standbys in "Diner Food". My Steak & Eggs .. come out exactly the way I like, I find the beef to be very tender & full of flavour, cooked medium rare and with eggs sunny side up, it just warms your soul! Spicy Chicken Burger .. Juicy well seasoned chicken breast meat in a crispy batter with just the right level of Heat, it went so well with the Marashino Shandy!! Currently it is a challenge to find parking in the restaurant's surrounding area as construction of the latest underground in Vancouver is underway, but if you don't mind walking, there are always metered parking in the neighbourhood! Local small business like this is well worth supporting!!

I stopped by for a quick late lunch on the weekend. The staff were quick with the order We ordered the Broadway burger and the Tomato Soup with a side of cheese toast The burger was juicy and quite drippy to eat, it might be cause it has kimchi The soup was tangy but creamy, I love this !! I was so full! But have to be back for the milkshakes!

With the current COVID restrictions in place with only outdoor patio dining and no dine in service, we opted for take out from Fable. Fable is at a distinct disadvantage as there is no opportunity to have an outdoor patio at this location where other establishments along Main St have built up patios in the parking areas. If you want Fable and other establishments to survive, you need to support them. We opted for the steak dinner for 2 for $40. It comes with steak (cooked as requested), their pepper jelly (so good), salad and fries. It was just the right amount of food. The steaks were cooked perfectly and everything was very tasty. The only slight negative is that visually the portion size of each steak were different...sure they were close by weight. It was a positive food experience and happy to recommend Fable Diner...be happy to dine in here again once the restrictions are lifted as the milkshakes are amazing.

Yum, I really enjoyed this brunch! I had a special mimosa, it was strawberry flavored. I had the huevos rancheros for breakfast. It was really tasty! I liked the red cabbage on top of it and the eggs were cooked perfectly. It was really yummy!

Had a good brunch time with friend in this lovely place. Service is amazing and the food is perfect. I don't know what's the crispy thing on top of the pancake but it tastes like heaven. Highly recommend if you want to find a quite and nice place to chat with your friends or family. It's at the corner of the street and no free parking.

Service was good, friendly. The restaurant is the same as I recall, clean enough. A little cramped and the seating isnt too comfortable. Its really not a good place to hang out for a long time, but rather sit down, eat, and get out type of place. I had the lavender latte and the Tagine this time. Ive had it before and at least its pretty consistent. Ive tried several other things on their menu in the past too, all pretty solid 4/5. Nothing standout as so amazing to deserve 5 stars, but consistent and tasty. I did have a reservation which they charge $10/person for, purely for donation to a charity and does not contribute to your meal at all, and also nonrefundable. While I find this somewhat annoying, I dont blame them for doing this from a business standpoint. They always have a lineup so there is no shortage of customers for them. There is no reason they need to deal with the headache of a ton of reservations. On the flip side, they honoured my reservation in a very timely fashion and I bypassed the line, so props to them for doing that part right. The location itself is beautiful, situated right on the water with a modern, stylish design. We chose to sit outside, and despite it being a cool Vancouver evening, we were perfectly comfortable thanks to the outdoor heaters. The seating was especially nice, with cushioned lounge-style chairs that felt clean, comfortable, and inviting. Between the waterfront setting, cozy seating, and heaters, it was a wonderful atmosphere. To start, I ordered a frozen sangria, which is one of my favorite drinks. It was absolutely delicious, perfectly frozen, smooth, and refreshing without being overly sweet. It was garnished with a slice of orange and was one of the better sangrias I've had. We also ordered the crab dip, and it was outstanding. Honestly, it was chef's kiss perfect. I devoured almost all of it and was actually a little disappointed that my son had eaten some of the chips because I still had dip left at the end and wanted every last bite. It was creamy, flavorful, and easily one of the highlights of the meal. For my entrée, I ordered the blackened chicken, and I was genuinely blown away. I've eaten chicken dishes all over the world, and this was some of the best chicken I've ever had. It was incredibly moist, juicy, and packed with flavor. The seasoning was excellent, and it was grilled to perfection. I wasn't expecting such a simple dish to be so memorable. The roasted potatoes underneath were delicious, and even the asparagus which I wasn't initially excited about, it worked perfectly with the dish. In fact, I ordered a side kale salad because I wasn't sure I'd enjoy the asparagus, but the entire plate came together beautifully. Every component complemented the others, creating a meal that was both flavorful and satisfying. My son ordered a burger and said it was very good as well. The restaurant does get busy, and there was a short wait when we arrived, but it was only about 10 minutes. We timed it well and were seated fairly quickly. Once seated, the service was excellent. The staff was attentive, friendly, and kept everything running smoothly despite how busy the restaurant was. Between the waterfront location, comfortable atmosphere, excellent service, and truly exceptional food, this was easily one of the highlights of our Vancouver trip. Stars of the dish were the mountain of perfectly pickled cabbage and the smoky maple BBQ sauce. - Chicken Apple Sausage: The apple gave it a hint of sweetness that made it more memorable. Slightly pricey for three pieces. Was there just before it opened and already there was a huge lineup of excited diners. This spot has a lot of fans and it's easy to see why.
