The chicken karaage was extremely tender and fresh, you could tell because it was hot which was nice! The udon in both the curry and rose cream udon was very soft and tender as well, tender than what I usually have for udon. If you like your noodles al dante I don't think it'll quite fit your taste but I personally really enjoyed it! As for the taste the spicy rose cream udon tasted exactly like Buldak Ramen's Carbonara flavor, and everyone at my table agreed. The garlic bread was nice tho. To be completely honest staff and workers aren't very attentive, the restaurant wasn't full and I could see the workers standing around. Our table had to ask for water multiple times. Other than that however they're very kind.

I made reservations about 4 months in advance. Upon arrival, one of the hostesses opened the door for us, and asked us to wait in a very ornate waiting area. We only waited a couple of minutes before another hostess seated us at the main seating area. The space is very dark, and only lit with candles while the rest of the diners trickled in. During that time they take drink orders, which is limited to sake, wine, beer and a few non-alcoholic drinks. Of note, they don't provide a drink menu, so we were a little surprised by the cost - the yuzu sake and the plum wine were $30 each. My non-alcoholic drink was $12, but a fair size. The theatrical portion started a few minutes later than the official start time - closer to 6pm. The shades lifted, the lights turned on, and the chefs introduced themselves. And from that moment on, they immediately went to work preparing our meal. They operate like clockwork to show the ingredients whole to the diners, and then preparing them, and serving them. Soon as the one dish was completed by all the diners, the next round came shortly after. Over 20+ dishes, there was very little wait time in between each. Each time a dish was served, a hostess was there to describe the dish and provided tips on how best to eat it. The food was overall was very good. I thought a few items were very average, most of them were very good, and a select few were truly outstanding. Most of the ingredients are imported from Japan, so I would imagine that it's part of the reason it's so expensive. This is definitely a splurge meal. I think half the diners at our sitting was celebrating a birthday. On the most part, the food is very good, watching the chefs at work is part of the entertainment, and the service is excellent. It's not some place I could afford to go to often, but glad to do it at least this one time.

Okeya Kyujiro is a Michelin one-star theatrical omakase restaurant, and when they say theatrical, they mean it! From the moment you're welcomed by smiling ushers in kimono to the closing tea ceremony, every movement feels intentional, precise, and elevated. The ambiance is serene and anticipatory. At the start, guests sit in silence as a black screen conceals the chefs. You see their shadows moving behind it. A bell rings, the screen lifts, and the performance begins. Dinner is a 25+ course experience priced at $325 per person. It's undeniably a splurge, but for a milestone celebration, it feels justified. The menu is seafood-forward, with many ingredients flown in from Japan. Each ingredient is presented before preparation, then carefully assembled and served directly from chef to guest. Courses arrive one by one, never rushed. The service team moves seamlessly in the background, refilling water and attending to drinks (available as an add-on) without disrupting the flow. The finale is a matcha ceremony, whisked in front of you with the same quiet precision that defines the evening. When the final sip is taken, the bell chimes once more, the chefs and staff bow, and the screens close. It was a beautifully choreographed dining experience, perfect for marking a special moment, and one I'd gladly return to for the next celebration.

Uni Colada cocktail: white rum, fino, montenegro, coconut, uni mango foam, chili - refreshing, tropical drink with a smooth foam top. It's a pricey cocktail because there's uni, but you don't taste much of it. The mango and chili are stronger. It's a nice drink, but not $17 nice. Uni and Beef Yuk-hoe: seared beef, green onion, quail egg, garlic chips, stem wasabi, uni, seaweed - delicious! However, I felt like the uni may as well not have been there. I had a piece on its own and it had a lovely buttery, melt-in-your-mouth texture. However, it was quite mellow (uni usually pops with briny, umami notes). Then I had the other piece with everything else and it got overshadowed by the beef. Uni California DIY hand roll: crab meat, uni sauce, roll-it-yourself seaweed wrap - it's smart to make this a DIY experience because the seaweed remains crisp. The mini soy sauce syringes on the side are cute too. I don't like using a lot of soy with my sushi, so it was great to control the amount. There didn't appear to be any uni sauce inside the hand roll...maybe it was used to marinate components? Even then, the flavours that come through are the sweetness of the crab and salty pop of fish roe (tobiko, I think). Truffle Egg DIY hand roll: truffle flavoured egg omelette, roll-it-yourself seaweed wrap - it's like all the luxury ingredients they highlight on their menu are less prevalent. The egg omelette was tasty, but I would never guess there was truffle incorporated. I want to reiterate that all the food was good and I enjoyed it! I just don't feel like I can rate higher when the uni didn't shine.

The food is fabulous. The service is hit and miss and there is a hint of elitism (different to the sense of pride) about the staff. I've been here a couple of times - the last time the waitress was friendly, attentive and bubbly, even with a full restaurant. This time the waitress (a different one) was surley, definitely not attentive, and boarderline rude - giving off an attitude that we were the last people she wanted to serve. The menu has a good variety and my friends and I thoroughly enjoyed our meals - I personally would recommend the pulled pork benedict. The food and drinks come out surprisingly quickly given the demand for the place. Had it not been for the shitty waitress who certainly didn't deserve any tip, this review would have been a bit better. read more

Food was delicious, Service was not. Decor is great, though perhaps the tables could be a little bit more spread out. Chick pea fritters fantastic, I could eat just those and be oh so happy. Potato crusted chicken was tasty and fresh. Gnocchi was also great. Server wasn't great, but we'd go back based on the food. We had decided on appetizers but not entrees. She decided to wait and put the order in all at once. Not sure why that was necessary. When asked about juice, she said: "we have orange juice?". So I replied with, what other kinds of juice do you have? Apparently just orange juice, which is fine, but please speak with some confidence. Went for a birthday dinner and it was beyond terrible. We loved this place for years, but the food quality, preparation and service have all gone down hill. We both ordered steak at medium rare, which came out 'rare' and also cold, and covered in soy sauce. It was accompanied with a pitiful display of cauliflower on the side for $42. Incredibly overpriced, and the quality was laughable - we couldn't believe how truly terrible it was. The food service, by what appeared to be the night manager, was just as poor as the food quality. There was zero Interaction, dazed look on their face, and we had to ASK for our food and drinks twice as they were seemingly unaware of our presence. Avoid at all costs going forward. read more

I've been meaning to go to Fable since it opened, and now that I've been I keep kicking myself for waiting this long! We had an absolutely outstanding evening - from the service, to the atmosphere to the food. Our server, a lady with short blonde hair, knew her stuff inside & out, and gave some recommendations that were perfect. I am obsessed with the parmesan crusted chicken, and plan to return for it asap! The only thing that struck me as being off was their wine list - the price points by the bottle were all so high! I think they started at $64 ish and skyrocketed from there - would love to see some more value-conscious wines, but til then will stick to your delicious beer list! read more

Finally tried this restaurant after always passing by. A friend suggested brunch, so here I am! Booking a table online was super convenient--I hate waiting in long lines. The service was great, and the ambiance is perfect for family or friend gatherings. The venue is a comfortable size, with reasonable distances between tables, allowing us to chat without eavesdropping. The menu offered various options; we tried a few dishes. While each dish looked good, the flavors were just okay--standard Western breakfast. Not a wow factor for me. Located on a busy street, it's great for post-meal strolls, but parking is a challenge. It's true. Khatsilhano Days was awesome! I went down to join in the festivities to watch some awesome live entertainment and window shop. The big stages were a little loud and annoying. But everyone one had their tents out, and that Looper Guy "Spirit" was across from Fable. I had an awesome farm fresh sandwich, and watched this musician create some cool versions of songs. I freaking love this place. Been 3 times now. And its superb. The gigantic meatball is the best. (Ask them about it. seriously) The canned tuned is probably the best tuna you'll ever have, and the main dishes are fancy and tasty tasty tasty. With an affordable price range of $30-60, this place is just really wonderful. It's not surprising at all to see that it's highly recommended as the best brunch spot on so many sites. I always come back for the fable stew. Great for the usual rainy or cold mornings in Vancouver. It's more of like a soup with lardons, mushrooms and kale topped with eggs and a slice of toast. We had an absolutely amazing meal here. The people waiting on our table were so attentive and patient, the explained everything to us and we're really fun, it added so much to the evening. It has that polished, upscale look you'd expect from one of Vancouver's better-known restaurants. Unfortunately, the food didn't leave the same impression. Everything we ordered was fine. Well prepared, nicely presented and enjoyable enough. The problem is that nothing really stood out. There wasn't a dish I'd rush back for, but there also wasn't anything I'd avoid. It all landed squarely in the middle. Service followed a similar pattern. Professional, efficient, and perfectly adequate. Nothing went wrong, but nothing elevated the experience either. Overall, Hawksworth is a good restaurant with a beautiful dining room, but I left feeling a little underwhelmed. In a city with so many memorable places to eat, this one didn't quite separate itself from the pack.

For drinks, we both chose the peach aperol spritz. This was a generic choice, which may not have been a good representation of what the drink menu has to offer. We selected the tasting menu to get as much variety as possible. There was a pop-up collaboration with Say Mercy!, so the menu was shared between the two restaurants. The theme seemed to be Southern-style food with a twist. We started pleasantly with the hush puppies and blackened tuna. These were good, but did not compare to the star of the night - shrimp and grits. My friend has travelled to the south frequently and shared that this may be one of the best shrimp & grits she has ever had. The flavours were spectacular, and the textures between the shrimp, squid, and grits were especially enjoyable. I would easily come back just to have this dish alone. Next, the BBQ bolo was a fun twist between southern BBQ flavours and bolognese. The dinner rolls that accompanied it were buttery and divine. At this point, we were already getting full, so we had to pack half the bolo up to save room for the short rib. The short rib was a bit on the saltier side for me, but the kitchen was wise in adding various pickled vegetables and other elements to cut the salt and fattiness of the meat. Finally, dessert ended the meal on an amazing note. The buttermilk and cornmeal filling, rhubarb puree and cornflake crumble were such beautiful notes singing in my mouth. I never thought vanilla ice cream could taste good with olive oil on top, but it all came together like a perfect symphony. The tasting menu was $170 for two people, which, although it seems hefty, felt worth it as per the amazing dining experience we had. This was a really fun and delicious dining experience. I would love to return and try other menus and drinks.

I'll definitely be back whenever I'm in Vancouver again.
