I just had the most amazing facial with Diane. I was just looking for a way to relax but she went way above that and knew exactly what my skin needed! I spent a lot of time online trying to see what type of facial I needed but decided to stick with the classic facial offered by the Face Place. Diane looked at my skin before we started and knew exactly what to do and I came out of there with clear and healthy skin. Also, she was so nice and easy to talk to, as well as the other staff I interacted with at the desk! I will definitely be going back! read more

I wouldn't even know where to start with how unprofessional today's service was. I had a signature facial booked with the owner Louise. First problem was I was really looking forward to relaxing, quiet, maybe the sound of trickling water running in the background, but that's not what I got. Louise talked and talked and talked about anything and everything. I heard the history of seaweed along with some girls escape from Poland in 1943. I never answered her hoping she would get the point I didn't want to talk. I just wanted to relax while getting a facial. Her cell phone also rang during my session. She left the room multiple times to get things. The other thing was about half way through the facial she stopped and said she was sorry but she had accidentally started to give me a seaweed facial even though I had booked and confirmed a signature facial. She then proceeded to tell me this facial was better for me anyway. On the way out, I got charged $9 more for the seaweed facial that I didn't book!! That was her error and they should have eaten the cost difference. I would not plan on returning, ever. I'm so disappointed. read more

Do NOT come here. If I could give this a zero star I would. I went here to get my makeup done for prom and Louise, the "makeup artist" did me up. I asked her not to give me eyeliner but she did. Even after i said stop. I asked her to stop doing my eyes but she continued, im very sensitive with eye products. I then looked in the mirror...I wish I hadnt....I looked HORRENDUS(not exagerating) i had mascara on my eye lids and under eyes. My eye lids were sore. My facial blemishes were so uncovered it looked like I had nothing on(i specifaclly asked for heavy coverage), I had a disguisting copper colored lip stick and eye shadow on and she screwed up the eyeliner I requested not to have done, so I had one eye with a gray line on it and the other with a green color because she tried to "even it out" my blush was also too concentrated. I was very upset. I gracefully paid because i was late(she didnt time it right) When I got in the car I cried and my mom said it looked terrible(not to be mean of course) i had to go to CVS and buy makeup and take hers off and do it myself which looked a hell of alot better and I wish I did it myself in the first place. I was very late for prom pictures so Im only in a few. I then went to get my money back the next day. Over the phone she said she thought she covered it and did a good job but shell give me a gift certificate. I said no i want the money back i never want to come back, so she agreed to return my money. She seemed calm over the phone but when i went to the store, she was working on another victim--erm client--so I got a bagel and waited in the car and when I came back in she met me in the food court, pulled the money out of her bra(it was wet by the way) and said "The only reason Im giving this back is because it was prom and you had a bad time because of it(not true i was just upset) you kept saying you didnt want the colors i picked(not true) so here." I tried to get a word in to tell her what i wasnt happy with But then she said "you kids are dangerous with your Facebook" as she was walking away and yelled "NEVER COME BACK" i didnt expect a seemingly sweet 65 year old woman to say this. Been here every so often for many years, but I won't be back. I came for a bikini wax. Karen M. came out to get me, called my name, and walked away ahead of me, rather than waiting and saying "hello" or at least smiling. Got into the room, still no greeting. I don't usually complain, and I don't expect someone to talk to me the whole time, but a simple hello goes a long way. Especially when you are getting a bikini wax, you want to feel comfortable. Once she put the wax on me, she kept picking at it to see if it was ready. This hurt more than just pulling it off. I've had many bikini waxes and I've never experienced someone doing this so much. I would never complain just about the pain involved, as I don't claim to know why that was happening, but the unfriendly behavior is what put me over the edge. When you come to a "nice" salon, you are paying for professionalism, atmosphere, and service. I think the atmosphere is amazing and I really want to like this place, but I won't be back. There's a million other nice salon's I can give my business too that don't treat me like they are herding cattle. read more

I made an appointment for a massage with a woman who I had been to before and decided to get my eye brows waxed after, I didn't have an appointment but they had a spot for me right after. The esthetician (if that is what they called her) looked like a clown and her eyebrows were half moon shaped and thought that I had too much myself- she took more than half of my eye brows off to the point that when I saw them and SCREAMED ( they are stencil thin at this point) she told me that "I should be embarrased of the way I looked when I came in". She had to literally PAINT my eyebrows back on, I was so embarrased of the way that I looked after I couldn't wait to leave, I couldn't stop crying. The Manage, of course, was not there, when I called a week later to complain there was no remorse, apology or explanation as to how a Salon of that magnitude could have such a monster working for them. It's unfortunate because I loved my massage therapist and will NEVER go back there again. Whenever anyone asks where to go for any wax services, I automatically tell them NOT to go to The Face Place in Hanover, because you will end up looking like a clown when you leave if you have the one that looks like a clown wax you. I am still so angry at how unprofessional the entire experience was. The paint washed away a few days later and I had to "pencil in" the rest of my eyebrows for 3 weeks until they started to grow back! read more

I went there for a facial. A tired stay-at-home mama looking to enjoy a rare few minutes of relaxation. (When do we get to spend the time and the money on such things?!) I arrived and the heat wasn't working at the spa. These things happen, but because my appt was with the owner, she kept popping out of the room to make phone calls and to deal with the problem. Also, while I was there, the electricity went out for about 5 minutes. Again, lots of popping in and out of the room. I was never offered a make-up appt or a gift certificate or anything of the sort. Such a hectic NOT relaxing experience. And the icing on the cake was the eyelid infection I broke out with the next day. Called the owner to let her know that something she used on me must be contaminated and the call was met with defensiveness - no apology - nothing. I had it for a week - needing 2 different doc appts and 2 different antibiotics (had to switch to the stronger 2nd one to fight off mersa)!!!! Disgusting. I will never set foot in the place again. I promised myself I'd never go back to the face place. Had an eyebrow wax experience gone wrong a little ways back. Although the staff member was very apologetic, the front desk staff never acknowledged that I was leaving the building with a clump of wax entangled in my hair, let alone offer an apology. But, due to their convenient new location, I decided to give it another go. I booked back to back appointments for a spray tan and pedicure. Had some difficulty switching them to the reverse online (logistics of a pedi post spray tan, not ideal). However, I thought if I arrived early, there was a possibility that I could switch them. Uhhh, nope! After waiting for about 5 min, the peach of a woman who works the front desk arrived to call me by the wrong name. No big deal, I corrected her and she moved on to discuss my appointments. I expressed my difficulty in trying to swap the appointments online and was met with, "you should have called." Ok, yes, I admit I should have called, but again, stressing that I only made these appointments out of sheer convenience (time saver), I did not have time to call. Though I apologized, Spawn of Satan was having none of it. I slinked away to have a seat and wait (still early) for my spray tan. It's now time for my appointment, then 5, 10, 15 minutes go by and no one has acknowledged I am waiting. Heart pounding, teeth gritting, I head back over to the desk (which is buzzing with women checking in and out-and only the sole staffer is ushering them to and fro). Frustrated, but polite, I say, "excuse me, does my 1:00 appt still stand?" "Your appt is at 1:30," Malefocent replied. "Ummm, no, I tried to switch it to 1:30, remember? My original appt is 1:00." "Oh, yeah, right. So and so will be right with you." K. Thanks. Any who, a very apologetic So and so comes out and says that she didn't know I was checked in and that she had been out to the waiting room 3 times and should have just called my name and I'm so sorry. Did I mention she said she was sorry? She was very kind and I started to feel better until we passed whatsherface in the hall-"I didn't even know she was checked in," So and so says. "The screen didn't refresh." THE SCREEN DIDN'T REFRESH!!! Are you kidding me? Not an apology for miles was coming out of this wretched woman's mouth. EVER. Grrrrr... Ok, so skip to the spray tan. So and so seemed to be able to handle the gun, but never asked me a thing about how I tan in the sun,have I spray tanned before, blah, blah. When we were done, she set a timer and told me to stand in front of a personal fan for ten minutes. Um, ok. Forgot to mention that she didn't leave the room when I was undressing (yes, I know she'll see me in my unmentionables/grody undies anyhow), but still... No education on how the color will develop, when to shower or sweat or drool, etc. Nada. If this were my first rodeo, I'd have run home and showered immediately, washing my $40 down the drain. $40 plus tip... I will give 5 stars for decor, the new location is beautifully styled. The mean lady at the front, not so much. As nice as So and so was, she still seemed to lack experience, but that is easily fixed. Point being. I for sure will never be returning again. read more

To start off, the face place is a very nice spa. Very clean, very relaxing. I have been to this place a handful of times only because a relative of mine goes there and loves it so much and asked me to join her. For the most part, all my mani's & Pedi's were great except for one time. My cousin sat down first to start her French mani and I sat down shortly after. It was so rushed and the lady had me out of her seat within 20 minutes tops. She was very pleasant and nice to chat with but quickly rushed my manicure and needless to say I wasn't impressed with the end result. It was very messy and to be honest my 10 year old son could've done a better job. I expressed my concerns with a nice lady at the front desk and asked if maybe I could get it redone by someone else another time because I didn't want to hurt her feelings and what not. She said yes, not a problem and went ahead and booked me an appt for a later date. We came back a few weeks later. once again, my cousin was taken right in and started her manicure while I sat in their waiting area the entire time waiting for the lady to start on me. My cousin was done with her manicure as I'm still waiting for the lady to take me. So a different lady I'd never dealt with before at the front desk stood up and said "she's going to be a bit longer, can you wait?" mind you i had been sitting there for a good 25 minutes and I said no, I had an appt and already have plans for after I left. she shrugged her shoulders, gave this snarly look and a very insincere "sorry". So I left without getting my manicure they had promised me. I wasn't very happy but got over it. So I received 2 gift cards for my birthday back in July, one for $40 from my friend and one for $50 from my cousin that I normally go with. So I made and appt for me and my other cousin that had never gone there before for a mani/pedi. The two girls we had were excellent, Sara and Heung. They do an immaculate job and make you feel very comfortable and welcomed. I went to use my gift cards. One went right through and the other didn't. the lady made me feel like I had like stolen the gift card or something, like I was being patronized? I don't know, it was strange and very uncomfortable. So she looked it up in her computer under my maiden name, and in the mean time told me that they re-use their gift cards, and it was under another persons name. She had asked me if I knew who so and so was, and I said no, and had no idea what she was talking about. She then found it in the computer after long awaited searching. Why would it be in my name for a gift card... I don't know? Regardless, I paid and we went on our way. Well, about 2 hours later I get a call from this unpleasant lady I had dealt with and proceeded to tell me that she made a mistake and hadn't looked up the transaction right, blah blah blah. "you owe me $50" she says. I laugh at her because I had these cards given to me for my b-day and she's making me feel bad for using them. I said, It feels like there is always a problem when I come in there lately and she says to me " YEA, you have history.." LOL! what?! I had no words.. I can't even believe she said this to me. Needless to say I made a comment to her about her attitude and poor personality and I hung up. I feel SO incredibly insulted and also feel bad for my cousin that bought this gift card for me. I will never spend another dime in this place (unfortunately, because this only hurts the staff that are there to make a living and are good at what they do) but the lady at the front desk is a poor representation of that company and it's on her. read more

Highly recommended!! I went for an eyebrow wax and a facial two weeks ago. They were running a $69 special for a seaweed facial so I thought I would give it a try. The girl I had really knew her stuff. She was so professional and made me feel so relaxed and so rejuvenated. The staff was friendly and the facility was beautifully decorated and very clean. Came here for my first shellac manicure ever (well, my only shellac manicure ever. I typically gnaw on my nails until they bleed - gross, but true...but it was for my wedding and so I treated myself to some pretty nails...). The place was immaculate and the staff was so pleasant and welcoming. My manicurist and I had normal conversation for the 45 minutes it took to make my hands look like a bride's hands should. And my nails came out perfectly - AND lasted 2.5 weeks, for a price quite reasonable in comparison to neighboring nail salons. If I could stop biting my nails, I would come back on a regular basis. read more

I had an amazing facial with Karen. What I loved most is she didn't just stick me under the steam and leave me for 30 minutes. She stayed with me throughout the entire facial and actually worked on my face. It was the most relaxing facial I have ever had. My face felt cleaner and lookedclearer and brighter when I was done. She also used essential oils and lots of massage which I loved. It was an amazing facial. When I was done with her I had a reflexology treatment with another therapist. Again this was an amazing experience where the reflexologist worked on my feet for a solid hour. Overall my experience with the two professionals was a five-star experience however, the 2 front desk women were such a disappointment for such a beautiful place! When I first arrived they were sitting behind the desk GOSSIPING about another woman and didn't look up at me or a full 10 minutes. I could not believe it. When I told them I was there for my facial one quickly brushed me aside and told me to take a seat. Upon checking out I wanted to make an appointment for another facial but neither one of them could be bothered with taking the time to talk to me. They could really use some customer service skills training. Other than that I think the face place is a really nice place to go and get away for a few hours. read more

very good experience with facial and peel ( cant remember which kind of each)....front desk was very pleasant and dianne was very kind and explained everything she was doing as i had not had one before. for some reason i expected blemish extraction ( not sure why ?) but maybe because of the facial and peel i got which were i believe for sensitive skin that was not recommended. salon was very clean . i like that they are open on mondays. prices seem very much in line with south shore area as i researched while looking for a salon open on mondays. read more

Decided to try The Face Place because they were running a Groupon Special a few weeks back. The place itself is cute, clean, and nicely decorated. It seemed busy with many people coming and going. I had a relaxing facial (1.5 hr) and pedicure (45min) that were both very nice. The staff was friendly and attentive.On the other hand, a few of the clients seem slightly pretentious. My first experience there. I was booked for a massage. No one asked me about my medical history etc. Nor did they ask what type of music I liked. The masseuse was pretty good, but she never asked me if it was too little or too much pressure. It was hard to relax; there was a lot of noise from the store overhead and from people in the spa itself. To dim the lights, the masseuse had to go out into the hall, this was about 1/2 way thru my massage. Ambience is definitely lacking. Overall it was an ok experience, but I won't go back. read more

Saying my makeup made my skin look orange and that I can take that as criticism or not and that she's had a long day . And a few more comments about my skin. Uuuuuuuuggggghhhhhh whyyyyyyyyyyyy ???? I had had such a good experience there my first time around for a pedicure I was excited to go back for a massage and full leg wax before a vacation. The massage was great but the wax was TERRIBLE !!! Ok, waxing hurts in general but when you go through a bunch of discomfort with no result uuuuuuugggggghhhh. I am not hairy by nature but without getting into detail, the employee (very nice) did an AWFUL job. I tried to contact the Face Place about the issue and was informed, by the owner, that there must be something wrong with me and that the presumed baby sounds in the background, on the phone, needed to be babysat so I could "get fixed up". This was the owner...stating there was something wrong with my legs and that noises she heard needed a babysitter when I described my inability to just run down to her spa/den of waxing failure. I bought a groupon last spring for a pedi and a facial. I was beyond underwhelmed with my experience. They set me up for the pedicure first and as I was sitting in the chair waiting for the girl to come start I could hear a few of the employees at the front desk complaining about what a pain the groupons are and how they were so sick of it. I'm a hair stylist, so I get that the whole groupon thing can be a pain. Some people just want a cheap service and never come back. But at the time I was looking for a new place to keep up with facials and I was hoping that this would be the place for me. The pedicure was ok. The girl was very nice and did a good job but I get a better pedicure down the street from my house for cheaper and they do a nice long hot stone massage. Next up was the facial. I felt like I was in cosmetology school all over again. Just a bunch of creams being rubbed on my face and then wiped off with rough pst towels. Not to mention the room was located in a busy part of the salon and it was so noisy I just could not relax. When the service was over I couldn't wait to get home and wash my face I just felt so greasy. Needless to say I will not be going back. I've heard great things about them from other people so maybe they just don't feel the need to make their groupon customers happy? My husband bought me a gift certificate last year for $210. I went to get a facial and the lady asked if I wanted the special which was usually $140 but special price was $80 today. I said yes do you take gift certificates? And she said it wasn't offered if you had a gift certificate - to me that made no sense and I told my husband later not to get me there one again. Well, a year later he forgot and got me another gift cert. there for $210. I scheduled a facial for 1:15p.m. enough time for error to drive there and back on time to get my two kids off the bus. I arrived at 1:10. Waited, waited, waited after 15 minutes the girl behind the desk said the owner was running late with her previous appt. Finally after waiting for 35 minutes THIRTY FIVE mind you as I came here to relax not get all wound up the owner came out. I then said that I didn't have time now because I had to get my kids off the bus. She said "why don't you do the express special for $35" I asked if she would take gift cert. she said "NO". I told her I didn't understand why and she said "if you saw our books you'd know why". Finally I just asked for the value of my gift cert $210 and the owner said "I'll just write you a check". I was happy that at least I'd get my money back. As I grabbed the check and turned around the owner said to the girls behind the desk "GOOD NOW WE DON'T HAVE TO SEE HER FACE HERE ANYMORE". It took me all I could not to turn around and say what was on my mind which was "if I knew you were the owner I would of never had a facial here before because your face is ugly just like your attitude"!!!!! She is a coward who can't look you in the face and say something, just bad mouth you behind your back. i went to this place all the time when i was in high school/college, but stopped going when the mani/pedis become ridiculously overpriced. i have gone a few times again since and have never gotten as good a pedicure as i always do, for more than half the price at euphoria. its a nice spa and the people are nice, but not even kind of worth the $$. read more

I went in for a manicure and was sat with a pleasant woman who I enjoyed talking to. She was kind, but my manicure did not come out good. She had said earlier that the color was hard to work with but I was unsure why they had it as an option if it was so hard to work with... I ignored the minor blemishes I had on them (bubbling of the top coat and a smudge on a top nail from applying the top coat) she seemed to be rushing to get to the next customer and I feel like she didn't care about how my nails came out. Needless to say, by Saturday three of my nails had peeled off completely and when I called back to inform them the woman didn't have much to say, there was no apology whatsoever for my poor manicure and when I kindly asked to have just those nails re-done, she agreed but had to add the comment of "there is no guarantee with the regular manicure and we usually don't do this." I don't know anyone that would want to pay 20$ (including tip) for a manicure to only have it last less than 48 hours.. i bought my daughter for her birthday a groupon deal a facial and pedicure and bought myself one as well the facial was amazing the technician was very friendly and knowledgeable and made me feel very comfortable and relaxed the pedicure was unsatisfactory my daughter was getting her pedicure before me as well as another woman i was finished before them it took fifteen minutes my technician didnt introduce herself to me so i didnt know her name she didnt make eye contact or talk to me through the procedure i felt very uncomfortable it was my first pedicure i was a little jealous my daughters tech and the other woman tech was very personable and they got great foot and leg massages and the top of their nails buffed mine were left with ridges on top ! i would definitely go back for a facial but very hesitant about a pedicure read more
