The power of Falafel City is yum! This open for early dinner until late night Mediterranean fast casual comfort food spot is located in SF's Tenderloin which can be known to be a little less savory than the food at this deep hidden gem. I'm really glad I had delivery and tried a few things from here over the weekend. Definitely was eating lighter during most days my long weekend in the city. My order was made in a beyond respectable amount of time. The fries being hot and delicious, the falafel being classic, enjoyable though a little more soft than crispy. I also had their vegan burger (Beyond) over the weekend and it wasn't too shabby. Their menu is loaded with a lot overall, but the plant-based vegan friendly options seemed abundant, including a lot of the sauces - like their hummus and tahini sauce. Traditional tzatziki is made with greek yogurt so it's vegetarian and thus if your lactose or non-dairy you can customize your order (on their website, in-person as well as via third party apps like Door Dash). My foodie senses wanted to add Badmash Fries, Samosas and so many eats that were calling my name, but will save them for next time - and try them out with a friend in person. It was already dark, and I was just walking home after a couple of tiki libations at Zombie Village nearby thinking I could eat something to absorb some of the alcohol (review: https://yelp.to/lmahvz4CoC). I had never heard of this place deep in the Tenderloin, but I decided to take a chance since it looked well kept and gratefully rather empty. When I entered the space, I saw a pretty robust menu overhead. Selections encompassed wraps, burgers, platters, rice bowls, and even pizza. I decided I should go for the basic and ordered the $10.99 Gyro Wrap. Bomb falafel!!! It's so good!!! Moist, flavorful & big pieces. They're open late which is nice & when I usually stop by. This is how I discovered them was bc I was hungry late at night in SF but now I go here whenever everything else is closed & still need good food. I ordered late night delivery from this spot when we wanted something a bit healthier than fast food. We got the falafel platter and the combo platter and both hit the spot. They are very generous portions (4 big falafel patties) and a lot of gyro and chicken meat. The gyro meat was a bit better than the chicken but the chicken was flavorful and juicy as well. There was a ton of rice and a little salad with tomato and onion as well hummus. The hummus wasn't the best, but it was good to dip the pita that came with it. You can get the tzatziki and tahini on the side and they put it in little sauce containers which is nice. read more

My new favorite falafel spot. Food is so delicious and tasty, the service is pretty fast and it's all Halal, they even have prayer mats for you to pray in case it's Namaz time. They are open til 3am, which is awesome. We tried their spicy chicken sandwich, chicken wraps, and grilled chicken bowl, everything 10/10 . The restaurants location is off a very active street. Seriously a hidden gem for falafel lovers. I was craving some Mediterranean food and decided to order in at Falafel City and let me tell you, it was an absolute delight! I opted for their falafel wrap and ordered their hummus - it turned out to be one of the best falafels wraps I've ever had. The hummus provided a creamy accompaniment to the falafel. One notable aspect was the portion size, which was very generous - with that the value for money was commendable. The falafel itself was well-cooked, with a crispy exterior and a moist interior. My favorite thing to get is the Chapli platter. Their baklava is very good too, especially with tea. I recommend the chai (which is complimentary until it runs out) The black tea is also really good, they use high quality tea leaf bags. You only need to add a little bit of sugar if you are eating baklava or maybe none at all. The chapli is fresh and seasoned very well. Overall this place is a gem since they are open late (til 3 AM on fri n sat) and have good food. read more

I honestly only ever order door dash from this place but that's because it's now become a staple to order. Whenever I'm feeling something healthy but also tasty, I always order the falafel platter from here! It ends up being two meals for me as well. I also really appreciate that they mention that they fry anything vegetarian in a separate oil, makes me not have to worry about cross contamination! Truly a great place for vegetarians. I always add the hot sauce as well because it's super spicy and makes the meal that much more enjoyable. Definitely recommend if you're wanting a nice late night order of Mediterranean food or even just as a normal dinner, especially for vegetarians! We ordered combo plate and added a falafel, sambosa, double cheese burger, gyro fries. Ate chicken first off the combo plate and thought wow this will be my favorite, then had the gyro and thought of this is my favorite then had the falafel and said THIS IS MY FAVORITE . chicken wasn't as good after trying the rest of the proteins, mostly just tasted like cumin which is fine but the other two are just seasoned better. The rice is perfect. Wish there was more tzatziki or that it came on the side so I could distribute it better (this is the only negative thing I have to say about this order). The sambosa was fine and the sauce was pretty good. The gyro fries were great and I love love loved their fries on their own as well. I rolled my eyes when my friend said he wanted to order the burger (because why would you order a burger and fries from a place called falafel City) but I'm glad he did because that was great too. One of the best burgers I've ever had. Highly recommend this place in general but if you're looking for a late night meal this is it. First encounter with this place speaks to the hospitality. I work in the area, and restrooms are few and far between. They didn't care at all that all I bought was a water. I had been meaning to come back for food sometime but never had the chance. Then, my bf ordered from them off DoorDash and, he is very picky and does NOT use the word delicious lightly, but that's what he called his lamb gyro and curly fries. I went in late (11pm) this last Friday night. Ordered falafel plate and an order of dolma. I had been told the place was the Med version of El Farolito, and the dining room is similar but not as clean. The falafel plate is four falafel on a bed of Basmati, a dollop of hummus, and some romaine with slices of tomato and onion. About $15 for $4 worth of food, so a regular neighborhood-joint price. The falafel were good sized and warm. But since there was almost no Tzatziki sauce, it was quite hard to choke them down. Particularly with the (good but also dry) Basmati. The dolma (grape leaves) were slimy, mushy, tasteless, ice cold, just like the bed of shredded Taco Bell lettuce carelessly underlying them. There was no rice in there as far as I could tell, just a tasteless brown substance that I am guessing was lamb or pork related. In my experience dolma can be warm (if meat) or cold (if rice). At $5 it was reasonably priced and available late, but not edible. The kitchen looks gross from the dining room and the tables were grungy. The cashier was efficient but possibly mute and did not appear to have anything in his genetic makeup that would allow pleasantness. Not rude, just meh; I got no signal or indication whether he was going to treat me as a fellow human, which is a red flag when you are hoping for assurance of getting some clean food. It takes a trudge through the stank of the nasty TL neighborhood, which is never a good olefactory opening act. So I have to say there was zero reward for the trouble, aesthetic or otherwise. read more

Let me keep the original fruit that they made, and they made me new food and had me pay for the additions and I recommend this place!!!! Solid portions for the price. Too much rice and too much buffalo sauce on everything. Also too much tahini sauce. The meat didn't have much flavor. The hummus was also very bland.
