We saw great reviews for Fall Line so we headed there for brunch after church. It is on the lobby level of a Marriott Hotel. When we arrived we were told that they had a 10-15 minute wait despite the dining room looking very empty (see pics). When we said that we had a reservation, they told us that they would need to get a table ready. We were seated and our waitress came over to take drink orders. She then realized that we hadn't been given menus. She got them for us and then told us that the kitchen was on a 5-10 minute hold so she couldn't take any food orders. Ok... My husband ordered the Kentucky breakfast mule and the waitress returned to tell us that no mules could be made. They had been out of the syrup needed to make them for two days. She then informed us that the kitchen would be ready in 3-4 minutes. This wasn't starting off well. We ordered the cheeseburger and hot honey chicken sandwich as entrees along with a side of bacon and an order of biscuits. Forty-five minutes after we'd arrived the food came to the table. As I got ready to eat the burger I saw the secret sauce on it instead of on the side as was requested. At that point, I told them not to worry about remaking it. They took it off the bill and I just decided to eat something else at home. My husband said his hot honey chicken sandwich was just ok as the chicken wasn't seasoned. The only flavor was in the sauces. Well, this was disappointing as we drove about a half hour to eat at this place. After more than an hour there I didn't try any of their food except a few fries and a biscuit. So I can't really comment on the food. But, the establishment would benefit from improved management as putting kitchen orders on hold during brunch hours with a relatively empty dining room isn't ideal. Our waitress also must've been new. She seemed overwhelmed with two tables that had a total of three diners. We gave her more than a 20% tip despite our less than great dining experience but I can't imagine that we'll come back here during the next several years that we'll be in the area. read more

A friend and I went before an event at the Carpenter center. Easy parking and walkable to both the event and the restaurant. We were seated at a nice table immediately. The waitress was prompt , friendly and attentive. She answered all of our menu questions We ordered the corn bread appetizer which was just okay. A bit raw in the center. We both ordered the steak au jeux and Fritas. It was presented nicely. The portions of both were large. Unfortunately the steak and fries were cold. There was a blob of butter on the steak that did not melt. Because we were fixed for time we did not say anything to the waitress when she asked if everything was okay. read more

So I usually stay away from hotel restaurants in general especially when I'm not staying at the hotel. But this spot is different it is charming- they have done something here. What I love the most is the outdoor area and the wonderful little individual cabana style seating you can get if you spend at least $100 and tip 24%. If you come here, sit in one if you can- super romantic and quaint. The service is attentive and not wanting for anything. Our server was very nice. The drinks were good albeit a little light on the alcohol. Food is solid too. The menu is not huge but has a couple of options for everyone. Celebrated our anniversary at Fall Line and the service and meal was fantastic. We had Michelle who took very good care of us. Best server we've had in a while. Our drinks were never empty, the meal was well paced and she was delighted to offer us a gelato to celebrate. We started with fried oysters and lump crab hush puppies. Both were very well prepared, and excellent portions for the price. My husband ordered the braised short rib, which was fall off the bone tender, over a bed of fluffy mashed potatoes, chippolini onions, carrots and mushrooms which deepened the flavor. I ordered the miso glazed Halibut in dashi broth. The fish was tender and perfectly prepared, the broth was slightly salty and all the veggies were blanched so they didn't dissolve in the bowl. Finally, we ordered crème brûlée and key lime pie. The crème brûlée was silky and sweet. The key lime pie was tart and creamy with a healthy topping of toasted meringue. First time here very dark but beautifully designed dining room. We didn't order apps. I had a glass of wine and my partner had an old fashioned they enjoyed. I order the salmon which was a bit overcooked. The Carolina gold rice was the star of my dish. My partner ordered the belly on pork chop after our server recommended and let us know they're the only restaurant in this area with that particular cut. We later learned why. Of course as the name "belly on" implies, it's a fatty piece of meat. There was barely any actual chop just a ton of fat that was not rendered well covered in a delicious glaze. Had a great time at Fall Line for dinner on a Sunday night. Wonderful outside seating and a great server Maya. We walked in and were grated by the host. We were given the choice to sit out side and had a great corner table. Our server came out with water, special menu and was ready to take our drink order. Sorry for no pictures. The wife and I split a wedge salad, and a share plate was brought right out. Hate having to ask for one. Given all the good reviews in yelp as well as other magazines and websites I was disappointed by Fall Line Kitchen. Nothing was bad but it wasn't great either. The first thing that struck me was the restaurant is located in the Marriot. Nothing wrong with that per se, but I was wanting to support a local business when I made the reservations. It wasn't mentioned (or at least it wasn't memorable) in any of the reviews I read. The restaurant itself was pleasant enough and our server was very nice and engaged us by being friendly but not overly chummy. However, our utensils were pretty dirty after eating the appetizer (Pimento Fritters) and the appetizer plates were never cleared from the table despite being stacked at the edge where they could be taken easily and it was clear we weren't using them. The Pimento Fritter was tasty, but one dimensional. The cheese was so melted it was more like having queso and a breaded crust than a fritter. I think that it could be improved by mixing some green tomato cubes into the cheese before frying. The Truffled Bucatini was ok. It had a nice smell and taste of truffles. The sauce was a little grainy as if it had broken, but that might have been too much grated parmesan. The disappointing part is that it was literally just a bowl of noodles and sauce but cost more than the cheeseburger and almost as much as the shrimp and grits, or fried chicken which had more components and probably more effort to prepare. Seems like it should have come with some bread, a small salad or something. The Braised Short Rib was very tasty. The Short Rib was tender and not fatty. The sauce was rich and mixed with the mashed potatoes to be quite rich. The mushrooms and carrots added extra depth of flavor and more texture. This was the star of the night - at least for the main dishes. Lots of people seem to like the gooey butter cake for dessert. The flavor was pretty good. Sort of like a chocolate chip cookie without the chips. The vanilla ice cream melted over the warm cake to make a nice gooey mess (in a good way). Mine was a little too gooey. I preferred the outer edges. Could have been in the oven another minute or too. The peanut butter pretzel pie was really tasty. The peanut butter mousse filling was pretty light and the cream on top with chocolate and the pretzel crust complemented it nicely. As I said, nothing really wrong with the food, but not quite the level I was expecting considering all the positive reviews and the cost. read more

Our server was Jada. She provided great service, was friendly and professional! The atmosphere was nice. A little darker than my aging eyes like but fine. We ordered Grilled Cauliflower, French Onion Soup, the Hushpuppies, Burnt Ends and The Truffled Bucatini. Enjoyed every dish! Onion soup was not the rich beefy broth we usually expect but very good. The food, service, and ambience is always top notch, and consistently great ( not always the case at most establishments and especially for hotel restaurants!). Joe waited on me tonight and he was absolutely wonderful, so professional, and courteous. As was the host and the service manager who stopped by at the end of my meal to check on everything. It's so refreshing to see a restaurant that values high standards of service, and customer experience. I usually always get the NY strip steak. It's always cooked to perfection and the portions are generous. I've also had the chicken entree and bucatini dishes, both are excellent and beautifully prepared. We skipped dessert since we were going to pick up Shyndigz instead. Ambiance is contemporary and dimly lit, setting a mood. This is a solid bar/restaurant. It's connected to the Marriot (i believe) downtown. I came in just before 10pm to have a drink and dinner at the bar. Service: The service was a bit slow but good. It took a while for someone to greet me and take my order. I decided to put in my complete order at one time for fear, someone wouldn't come back and I would have to wave the bartenders down. The bartenders seemed extremely busy, so I get it. They were probably servicing the party happening on the other side of the bar. 6.5/10 Ambiance: it was a nice nighttime ambiance. It was dark, with individual lighting at the bar and at tables, which created for a nice mood. It was very loud, however as there was an event going on in the other side of the bar that was a bit rowdy. I didn't mind, however. 8/10 Food: i ordered the wedge salad. It was half of an iceberg head, boiled egg, blue cheese crumbles, tomato, pickled onion, and a smoked piece of pork belly. The flavors paired together nicely. The acidity from the pickled onions was a nice touch. 8/10. I also ordered the shoestring fries. They were not shoestring fries. They are the same size as McDonalds fries. Nothing special, no frills, served with ketchup. $8. 6/10. Drink: i got my normal drink, old fashioned with Woodford Reserve. It was a really good old fashioned. 8/10. Overall: the food was solid, my drink was very good, but i think everything was slightly overpriced for what i received. The drink was $16 which i think is standard, but $14 for the wedge salad and $8 for standard fries with no frills is pricey to me. 7/10 read more

Came here on Valentine's Day before a show at the National and I fell in love with this restaurant! Located inside the Marriott Downtown, we were greeted by the most welcoming (and fashionable) hosts. The decor is simple but beautiful and they provided some special Valentines Day treats. The food was delicious - the crab hush puppies are amazing. I also loved the French onion soup and my husband enjoyed the steak & frites.
