Called several days before to make a reservation for two for 12:30. Was told that time was not available and could I come at 12:45. We arrived at 12:45. There was only one occupied table in the restaurant we could see. Quite a bit of time passed before a server came to take our order. After we ordered it took awhile for the two orders of a lobster bisque and a chicken sandwich to be brought to the table. The lobster bisque was good and filling. I took the Caesar salad home. My gf's chicken sandwich was also filling she said. We were not asked if we wanted dessert. I was parked by valet. The two young men at the desk were very friendly, polite and professional. Yes it's technically a hotel restaurant, which could range from mediocre to great. This one stands alone as a great restaurant. Everything we had here was great. We first stopped in for happy hour. I got the crab hushpuppies which were actually the best hushpuppies I've ever had. I checked in yelp and surprise surprise they had a check in offer for a free corn bread which was doused in butter and also very good. My party also got the pimento cheese fritters which were ooey and gooey and yum. Stopped in for breakfast and got a chicken sausage and egg sandwich. Had some jalapeno relish which I found delicious and wish there was more of. Got a side of potatoes and they were nicely seasoned. We went in the winter time and they have these igloos you can dine in outside. Not my thing necessarily but could be a fun thing to do with friends and seemed to be pretty popular. read more

My wife and I went on a day date for brunch and the area was nice. They have both interior and exterior seating. The restaurant itself was inside Marriott hotel. We ordered 5 items: 1) Hot honey fried chicken sandwich 2 Avocado toast 3) Smoked salmon toast 4) French toast 5) Heirloom tomato salad. My wife ordered the hot honey fried chicken sandwich served with cole slaw, garlic aioli and fries. The chicken was tender. I ordered the other 4 items. The avocado toast was delicious topped with sunflower seeds, lemon zest and mint. The smoked salmon toast was also delicious. It was topped with a caper cream cheese, pickled red onions and arugula but the Texas toast was just too thick. The French toast was smooth and amazing. It was served with maple syrup and fresh berries but it lack the Chantilly cream. The heirloom tomato salad was refreshing and vibrant. My wife enjoyed that in exchange for her second half of her sandwich. I smothered the chicken sandwich into the maple syrup which enhanced the flavor. Our server was nice which the food was assisted by her manager. But after taking a couple of bites, she check on us and then disappeared. She wasn't as attentive as we needed more water and coffee. We asked another server and she attempted to find her but the second server refill our beverage. We didn't see our server until the very end. Overall the food was on my point. read more

To speak to how good service can go far and overcome issues, I'd like to give a shout out to Sierra for taking care of us! Our group of 6 came in for a pre-marathon meal on a somewhat busy Friday night. We got the feeling it might be a long night when we saw a few smaller tables come and go while we waited. That is when Sierra stepped up and didn't try to cover things up. Our order got lost in the kitchen and they would prioritize it but that meant delay. Knowing we were all racing in the morning and not looking to drink, she offered to cover a few desserts and made sure we were covered for all our needs (and I can say we all drank a lot of water!). Once the food arrived, it ranges from good to decent. I had the mushroom bolognese and felt it was the perfect portion and solid quality. I had a quick taste of the truffled bucatini and while tasty, the portion was much smaller than expected. However, I think the winner were the folks (three at our table) who got the fried chicken. Not only was the portion sizable, but it was fairly amazing (according to them). I am not sure the next time I will be down to Richmond. However, I am rather loyal to the Marriott brand, so expect when I do return I stay in one of their properties and knowing the Fall Line service would gladly have another meal and recommend you check it out as well. read more

I put a reservation in and they did something different, asked if we were celebrating anything, and we were! Couldn't celebrate on the actual day, but that'll it was our anniversary, so I put that down not thinking much about it. On arrival the valet said no charge if your going to the restaurant, we went in and gave them our name and the rest is epic customer service. We had no less than 5 staff stop by and say happy anniversary, they gave us complimentary champagne, and all that o. Top of truly wonderful service. My wife arranged for my birthday dinner at Fall Line Kitchen & Bar while we were on a recent vacation to Virginia. Since my birthday falls so close to our anniversary, we decided to celebrate that occasion as well. Although the restaurant is located on the ground floor of the Marriott, it doesn't feel like you are in a hotel lobby. Instead, it has the feel of an upscale, modern restaurant that happens to be connected to a hotel. Our hostess greeted us warmly, and shortly after, our server, Sierra, arrived. We started with a beer and a wine, but a short time later, Sharon, a manager, brought over a couple of glasses of champagne to celebrate our special occasions. After looking over the impressive menu, we started off with a Kale & Apple salad to share. I'd also get the cornbread next time since it looked wonderful. For our entrees, I decided to go with what seems to be their "must-have" menu item - the (belly on) Pork Chop ($40), while my wife chose the Shrimp and Grits ($28). After a particularly long wait, our dishes arrived and although very delicious, both were only warm as if they had been prepared and left waiting in the kitchen for a bit too long. We alerted our server Sierra about the issue, and she apologized and offered to take them back, but we were already enjoying our dishes. Moments later, Sharon the manager came by to offer profuse apologies and said that she'd take care of us. We truly appreciated their concern about our experience. For dessert, we enjoyed the perfectly tart key lime pie. It was a perfect dish to share between the two of us since our entrees were so plentiful in size. At the end, we were presented with the bill, and Sharon indeed took care of us by omitting the price of the salad, drinks, and the dessert. That, in addition to their genuine concern about our meals, was a textbook way of turning an unfortunate experience into a truly wonderful dining experience. I wouldn't hesitate to go back to Fall Line and would recommend the restaurant to anyone in the downtown Richmond area. Props in particular to Sierra and Sharon! read more

We came here to celebrate our 3rd wedding anniversary. The restaurant is inside a hotel, so we parked at a parking garage. We got a reservation ahead of time. We checked in and were greeted with a "Happy Anniversary!" Our waitress Sierra was wonderfully helpful all night. We even got complimentary Prosecco. What a nice touch. Our drinks were yummy, I appreciated the fall cocktails. We loved the cornbread appetizer, very yummy and hearty. It was SO GOOD with the burnt ends. I would have been happy with those two as my entree! I enjoyed my burger and the fries were good. My husband also enjoyed his dinner, so all around great meals. I do not recommend the butter cake dessert, it was not enjoyable to us. I don't like the texture of undercooked items, even if it's purposeful, I just didn't like it. I also do not recommend the Almond Amoretto Local Ice Cream we had. Wasn't enjoyable to me. Tasted artificial. It was so nice to feel celebrated and the decor was so fitting. Fall Line Kitchen is always a great choice, located in the downtown Marriott, valet park and have the restaurant validate your parking. My boyfriend and I stopped at the bar first and a had a couple drinks prior to dinner, which was nice, the bartender was very engaging and the drinks were strong, but very tasty, lol. For appetizers we had the lump crab hushpuppies and the must try skillet cornbread, delicious!! I had the braised short ribs as my entree, the ribs were melt in your mouth goodness, my belly was full but I could not stop eating. My boyfriend had the salmon and enjoyed it thoroughly. read more

We came to Fall Line for an early dinner before seeing the Nutcracker just a block away at the Dominion Energy Center. We had a fantastic dinner. The burrata appetizer was probably our favorite... toasted rustic bread, creamy burrata, kale pesto, tomatoes. A must get. For entrees we got the braised short rib and truffled bucatini. I preferred the short rib while my wife preferred the bucatini, which was extra cheesy but not in a saucy way, like not quite blended in smoothly. It was good but can't give it top marks. The short rib though was very good and a hearty dish. I really enjoyed the mashed potatoes with it. Service was good, our server seemed to be knowledgeable about the menu. We didn't see him very much after we got our entrees. Ambiance wise, it's an ok place. There is somewhat of a vibe but it is a hotel restaurant, which for better or worse does make for some bias. The table seating is not anything special. I think there are some updates that could be made to give it more of an elevated feel. The lighting and fixtures looked nice. Overall, it was a solid place and we will return to try other dishes. It does make for a great spot to have a dinner before a show at the Dominion Center or even the National which are both in extremely easy walking distance. read more

I was looking for a nice restaurant in the city of Richmond for a date night, so I decided to dine with Fall/Line Kitchen & Bar. The restaurant is located inside of The Marriot which I found to be nice because you are immediately exposed to an elegant ambience when you walk in. We were kindly greeted by the hostess who confirmed our reservation and navigated us to our table. I looked over the food/drink menu which had a variety of options to choose from. For our appetizer, we ordered the Iron Skillet Cornbread which was a nice start to the meal. It wasn't your average cornbread as it was filled with corn and zucchini which gave it some texture. It also had some creaminess throughout which may not be everyone's choice when eating cornbread, but still delicious. There was a level of sweetness that was enjoyable that didn't make me feel like I was just having dessert. The crispy edges was my favorite because it's a must when I eat cornbread! For drinks we ordered the Maymont Mule and Strawberry-Basil Margarita. I had a sip of my date's MM which was tasty because I love ginger beer, but it did overpower the strawberry and mint flavors just a bit. Still overall a good mule! The margarita was enjoyable as well. It was well mixed which had light and balanced flavors all throughout. The orange liquer gave it a fun citrus vibe without taking away from the strawberry-basil flavor. We ordered the Faroe Island Salmon and Braised Short Rib for our entrees. The salmon was cooked medium which is the restaurant's standard. It was paired with a bed of wild rice, tomato salsa, and asparagus. The asparagus were cooked and seasoned to my liking. My favorite part of this dish was the tomato salsa! It added a nice freshness and acidity to the meal. Although I do enjoy seeing grill marks on my salmon, there was some burnt flavor towards the end of eating my entree that I did not care for. It wasn't enough to ruin the meal though. The short rib was very tender! My date went to cut me a portion and didn't even need a knife because it just fell apart. If you're very hungry, I recommend this meal because it is very dense as it comes over a bowl of grits which were creamy and flavorful. The most popular dessert item was the Gooey Butter Cake per our waitress, so that's what we ordered. I can see why this one is their top seller because it was TO DIE FOR. The cake comes in a warm skillet and topped with ice cream. I was excited to try this because I love skillet desserts and they used Gelati Celesti's ice cream to top off the cake. There was a wide selection of ice creams to choose from. We chose the white chocolate peanut butter Oreo. I could not stop eating this dessert. From the warm moist cake, to its sweet yet salty butter, then the ice cream it all just came together so nicely. Perfect for sharing or having all to yourself lol! If you're looking for a nice spot to enjoy a quiet and tasty meal, Fall/Line Kitchen & Bar should be on your list. A coworker and I walked over because it's not far from work. The space is really nice, pretty swanky for the inside of a Marriott. We sat at the bar to order lunch, my coworker had a drink I had a Pepsi. The bartender was nice and was patient. The bar menu was short and sweet. My coworker ordered a hot honey chicken sandwich which I should've definitely gotten. I ordered a turkey club but what I got was a good old fashion sammich. It was more of a grilled sandwich, I wouldn't classify it as a "club". The inside had turkey slices, and the bacon portion was more of a pork belly because of the slice really thick, something most people would appreciate. Where it started to go wrong was the lettuce grilled inside the sandwich, the lettuce was transparent and hot. I don't mind the tomato being warm because it adds a juice factor to the sandwich. There was no middle bread, which is OK . The sandwich came with a side of fries... HOWEVER, everything and I do mean EVERYTHING was oversalted. Some people like a lot of salt, but not ya girl (I usually say this pointing at myself with both thumbs, so imagine it). If I didn't have hypertension before eating that quarter of a sandwich, I have it now. Let me paint you a picture, It's almost as if someone in the back was doing it as a goof. I don't think they would do that because people wanna keep their jobs I guess but it kinda had to be a joke. The bread was the best part of the whole meal. It was buttery on the outside. My husband and I took my 90 year old mother visiting from NY to the Fall Line Express Christmas Experience this evening. We made the required paid reservations and after being seated we observed the Fall Line Express "conductor"/server welcoming the guests at the table seated beside us. Expecting to be greeted next, to our disappointment, the server literally walked past our table and greeted the table on the other side of us who were seated well after our group. As we observed the server warmly greeting the customers on each side of us and welcoming them to the experience we were left feeling unseen. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER AND WE WILL NEVER VISIT THIS RESTAURANT AGAIN. If my mother had not been with us, we would have walked out. Food was mediocre at best. I am always looking for the most atmospheric foodie destinations and for me, a cozy and 'hygge' vibe is what fine dining is all about (especially during the holidays ). No dining experience in Richmond I've experienced so far can match the Christmas cozy aesthetic presented in the igloo globes located outside on the patio at the @falllineva. lights surround you, dancing flame space heaters warm you, and frosted greenery and accents drape cheerfully about the space. Each globe comes equipped with a Bluetooth speaker, so bring your best holiday playlist! Upon arrival we were greeted with complimentary champagne and a briny, sweet tuna belly and compressed watermelon . We tried a little of everything- the skillet cornbread (zucchini, cheddar, whipped honey butter) and pimento fritters (fried balls of pimento cheese accompanied by buttermilk dressing) are not to be missed! We also tried the crab hush puppies (sweet corn, jalapeño, pepper jack, citrus aioli). For the main, I had the ẗṛüḟḟḷëḋ bucatini which came loaded with beurre fondue , pecorino, parmesan, and black pepper. I added shrimp, which were really large, fresh and delicious. Make sure to save room for the gooey butter cake, served with French vanilla ice cream in a small cast iron pot (big enough for sharing!).
