5/26/2021 Don't let the plain facade fool you. Best massage I've EVER had! First time here today. Haven't had a massage in over a year due to the pandemic and recently started teaching my U-JAM FITNESS® classes at 24-Hour Fitness Hayward Super Sport Sundays 10:45am & Mondays back to back 7p & 8p classes. Plus, this past Sunday taught my regular class in the morning, co- taught a special East Bay 2-hr dance fitness class at Old Alvarado Park in Union City dancing/working out on concrete, and my back to back Monday night classes. So I was really feeling it all over my body. I looked up places on Yelp and found this hidden treasure. When I called at almost 5p to ask if they could take me in for a 90min massage at 5:30pm, they were kind enough to take me in. I was asked what type of massage I told them deep tissue. I was also asked what may need to be focused on in which I said whatever you can find to loosen up please. When I arrived, I was greeted with a smile, paid my $75, and taken to my room right away. Jimmy was my masseuse. I didn't have to say a word during my session except to answer if I was okay. Whenever he found a tense spot he focused on it and applied pressure perfectly. I'm pretty sure I'll feel it in the morning, but it most definitely is that soreness I'd rather be feeling versus the awkwardly painful tension I've been having from starting to teach at the gym and the stressesof life! So, you know, 90mins for $75. SO WORTH IT... period. They have 60mins for $50, but I prefer 90mins personally. After my session, Jimmy & Karen were at the front to see me out, with Jimmy ready to offer water as it is always best to hydrate immediately after you're worked on. Out of the hundreds of massages I've gotten, I have never had one so bad that I had to leave. I don't know if this particular staff member wasn't trained but it felt like she was softly rubbing lotion on me to the point it was making my skin bare. There was no massage technique involved. I couldn't allow that to happen so they switched me to a new person halfway through. It was the worst massage experience I've ever had. I have been here and had good experiences too but I left so upset for spending money on something that I have never had a bad experience with. I will start by saying that I want to give Lucy 5 stars for her wonderful message. She really gives great messages so she get a 5 star review for that. With that being said, the rest of the review is 1 star. There's a couple things that didn't sit well with me. I have been there 3 times and each time I went, not 1 person in there could speak english with a clear enough understanding to be able to communicate. It was IMPOSSIBLE trying to talk to them, they didn't understand us, and we definitely did not understand them, every time. This is not just a situation where maybe the people who speak and understand english and can communicate with customers just happened to be off the 3 times i went, several people i no also go there and have the same problem. And finally, i hate to even mention this, but it was so disturbing, i actually couldn't believe what i witnessed and what i think they were trying to convey to us. So since i had been there the last time, they had raised prices which is totally exceptable because they are very affordable, that is not an issue at all, but i just wasn't aware they had and i had brought cash with the thought it would cost a certain amount. We got finished and went to tip and the man who messaged my friend looked at the tip said something very rude to Lucy about our tip (you new he was very mad) and then stormed off. Now, Lucy and I had been trying to communicate when this happened, i was trying to ask if i could use my ATM card for a larger tip for her because i only had $5 cash on me for her and wanted to leave her $10 but we just could not understand one another because it sounded like she was asking us to pay for the messages but we had already paid for the messages before we got them so it ended up being extremely frustrating and embarrassing and it actually stressed us out right after getting messaged. She was clearly disappointed with the $5 tip as well and it was just horrible. We were completely embarrassed and it was inappropriate for any worker to do that to a customer. But they do this regularly to customers. 3 of my friends have also had issues with the workers there, getting mad and talking bad to them or walking away after seeing their tip amount, or telling them to leave more money for their tip. I have never experienced this anywhere else but here before and the management really needs to fix these issues before this business's reputation gets worse then it is. The word is spreading about this and it will put them out of business if they dont change these behaviors. Great message from Lucy though but not sure if its worth it after all this. Horrible service, dirty, pushy front desk attendant, inexperienced and unprofessional massage "therapists." After several attempts asking both massage "therapists" for "harder pressure," we realized that neither of them understood a word of English. Note to manager: maybe teach your staff simple phrases like, "harder pressure, less pressure, yes, no, there, not there, no neck please, shoulders please," etc. I had bumps all over my neck from the dirty towels and my body felt worse than when I walked in. Ridiculous! Due to our horrible massages and experience, we still left them a $5 tip each, and this is the best part... wait for it... they laughed in our face, made a big disrespectful sigh, left it on the desk, and walked away without it. Save yourself and DO NOT go here! All I wanted was a basic chair massage and I ended up getting major bruising (pics to prove it) I kept telling the man "TOO HARD" and he would push harder... I put my hands on my back to get him to stop and he started laughing and pushed harder. I told him "no no no" and he finally went out to the lobby to get the girl to translate - she said I needed to say "softer" as he thought "too hard" meant to go harder. OMG At least learn some key English words while you're working with English speaking public, people! Obviously, It was not relaxing in the least bit and the environment is shady looking. I also didn't like how at the end they tell me $25 for cash or $27 for credit card - It's a courtesy to your customers to offer payment by credit card and we shouldn't have to pay for that courtesy. "Foot massage before football games?" I asked my husband this morning. Knowing he'd never say no to massage I didn't even waste time putting on socks, I just slipped on some soft slippers and headed up Treat. I had seen the "Family Spa" sign in the plaza at Treat + Clayton and we decided to do the couple's 80 min massage. (50 min foot rub, 30 min back massage - $43 pp if you pay with a credit card, small discount for cash customers). Highlights: * Looking at Lisa, you'd never guess that this beautiful and tiny Chinese woman had ninjas for fingers. Tiny little finger ninjas. But that's the only explanation for the strength of her soft digits. Speak up if you need a less deep massage. She also checked with me more than once if I was doing okay, and appropriately responded to the movements of my body. * They use a magical potion to keep their towels so soft and clean. You'd think the constant washing and sterilizing would roughen them up, but no no no. They are soft like kittens. * Not for the shy! I totally got a great rump rub. No hesitation at all to run the mini-ninjas up and down my entire backside (in a totally appropriate way) and Lisa didn't dance around the region between my lower back and upper thighs. I don't know why some professionals consider this a no-zone. It was amazing. Soft lighting in both rooms we were in. Pleasant massage lotion that was unscented and left me feeling soft. They wiped us with hot towels before we were left to redress. Small cups of water were waiting at the end when we returned to pay at the front desk. The prices are unbeatable and they also offer hand massage and head massage services. I'll def return to try those! Only lost one star because the water used to soak our feet before we started was on the cool side. And while I understand it'd be difficult to use really hot water in the plastic-lined bins, it could use a slight increase in temperature. read more

This was my first time here at Family Spa and needless to say, I'm extremely impressed! For the past couple of weeks, I've had an aching pain in my back and shoulders, so I decided to check out this local massage spa after visiting many other mediocre spas. The staff were all friendly and professional and the place had a clean and relaxing ambience. I was greeted right when I walked in and tried the 90 minute foot and body combo that they suggested. Bring cash! There's a discount if you pay in cash vs card. I let my massage therapist know about the pain in my shoulders, and she was very attentive in catering to these areas. She knew exactly which spots to focus on to loosen my knots. After the massage, I immediately felt the difference in my shoulders and the tension there definitely subsided. The foot massage also felt really good and the lady made me feel relaxed and comfortable throughout the process! Overall, this place was exactly what I was looking for, and my shoulders and back has never felt better. Although you could say this is a bare bones spa, its actually nicer than it looks from the outside. Cash is king and for just $60, you can get a solid 90 minutes of a full body massage. There are zero amenities like a steam room, jaccuzzi, showers, etc. However, the massage rooms are private with typical spa decor. The 2 different therapists I've had so far have been consistent and very capable. While I'm not sexist against female massage therapists, I've had a few with small hands, which is why I usually prefer male therapists (I can thank my gf for that). That means you feel like you get more poked than massaged just because their elbows and hands are slimmer and bonier. However, these ladies gave great massages. It's more in line with Swedish and deep tissue massage styles, but there are still very Asian techniques employed. Basically, it shouldn't be too weird if you're not accustomed to Asian/Chinese massage styles. Plus, they're open until 10pm! This place is a hidden gem. They are easy to book with, usually I am able to get in sameday or even within the hour of calling and regardless of who, every massage has been consistently solid. I prefer medium to deep tissue and they accommodate and check in on pressure. The rates are great and they are always professional and friendly. Save your money and rub your back against a wall with a tennis ball instead. My expectations were high after reading about this establishment on Yelp. Unfortunately, the quality lacked everything I would expect from a well-run massage establishment. Starting from the moment my partner-in-crime walked inside for a couples session, the pricing was unclear. There is an online coupon you can use (but you have to print and bring with you. Either pay cash for $43/hour or $45/hour with a credit/debit card. The massage itself started out bad (horribly actually). I felt like an elder troll was rubbing my shoulders - soft and weak. I asked for the pressure to be 'harder' and the bloke started rubbing my buttocks for 10 minutes. WTF?! Forget lower back and shoulders, go straight for the...I'm not sure what this guy learned in massage "school" but his ice-cold fingers pressed against my kidneys wasn't helping the anxiety. While trying to collectively gather my thoughts, the loud noises coming from the front of the waiting area were blaring; all I could hear was, "I'm here for my appointment!" The distractions were distorting the jazz-instrumental of Simon and Garfunkel playing in the background. The only thing keeping my sanity during these precious 60-minutes (faux music). After the generous 20 minute foot and calf rub-down, I was ready to bolt for the door despite ten minutes remaining. We paid for the messages and left a $5 tip for both. Disgusted, both masseuses' did an abrupt about-face without acknowledging our presence, leaving the money sitting on the counter. Here's a tip should we drunkenly stumble upon your business next time: Warm your hands, learn your job, and invest in soundproofing rooms. I've been here a few times now, and they never disappoint. I've done both couple and solo massages, and each time has been very pleasant and relaxing. Both the reception desk and masseuses are always polite and professional. This last time, I had a guy do my full body massage, and it was one of the best massages I've ever received. He was structured and precise with his hands--he clearly knows what he's doing and has done this for a long time. Sheet placement was on point and impeccable. I left feeling loose and relaxed, and never once did I feel awkward. I'm glad I found this place. You seriously can't beat $40 for a full hour body massage. This place is a no frills, no-nonsense kind of place, so don't expect anything fancy. When all you need is a good massage from some good hands, this is your place. I have been to many different spas searching for relief from my sciatica, right shoulder and lower back pain. The staff are professional and the therapists are excellent. I highly recommend Family Spa. I normally receive a 90 minute deep tissue/therapeutic massage and after, i felt great for days. My pain in my lower back and right shoulder has lessened greatly. Remember... they aren't the cheapest. However, you get what you pay for. I've been coming here for 3 years now and as always. GREAT SERVICE!!!! It was my first time going here. Bad experience from beginning to end. The front desk person was pretending to be very busy. The prices they had on the counter seemed confusing and he couldn't tell me why there was two different prices for the same kind of foot massage. So I just settled for a full body massage. The room was cold, there was no background music. The lady came in very rude. Instead of a body massage I got a back rub. All it was was that the lady rubbed lotion on me for an hour. I love that I can get quick, quality massages here for a great price. The first time I went, I was having severe back pain that another place had made worse. I felt SO MUCH BETTER! Oh the relief! My boyfriend and I went to get massages here last night and we have never been so we thought we would check it out. The massage was wonderful and at the end him and I stated that we would love to come here again. As we walk out , we hand one of our Masseuses a $30 tip to split with the other masseuse. She looks at us with disgust and says "for two people?" I'm like yes, there is $15 each. Which on a $120 tab that is a decent tip. It was beyond unprofessional for her to be so ungrateful for the tip him and I left for them. She did not say "thank you so much, come back." Instead it was the rude remark. I should have took my $30 back and left her with nothing with that attitude. With that being said, we will never go back here again. Tips are optional, I did not have to leave anything extra. I booked an appointment last minute after dealing with excruciating shoulder and upper back pain. Not sure how it happened but it was limiting my range of motion for 2 days and no amount of self-massage, stretching or even TENS machine could work it out. For $55 cash ($60 card) they were offering a 30 minute foot/40 minutes body massage combo which I thought was the best option. The receptionist/also a masseuse asked if it was okay if she started my massage and that Aaron would take over as he was still working on another client. I was fine with that and the girl did possibly the first 10-15 minutes of my massage. She was very friendly and kind, made me feel relaxed and the short massage from her was good. Aaron took over after that and immediately I knew I was in good hands. If you're looking for a gentle light massage, this ain't it. He definitely dug into my muscles and worked out all the knots which is just what I needed. Yes at times the pressure was a little intense but so needed. Towards the end of the massage (last 5ish minutes) he asked if it was okay if he used hot stones for the rest of the massage. I said yes. The heat therapy was definitely soothing and if you've ever been to any massage place, hot stone massages usually up the price quite a bit so the pricing for all I got was a steal. At the end of the massage I was shocked to find ALL of my tension and pain 100% gone, I expected some relief but because I was in so much pain going in I didn't expect this. I've been to this place twice and both times were just okay. The First massage therapist didn't apply much pressure, I even asked for it and it stayed light. The second visit was strange. I made an appt for an hour chair massage and they told me to come in an hour and half, I said ok. When I got there they had me wait in a massage room and when the receptionist came to get me for my chair massage, she laughed about how she forgot I was waiting there. I waited an extra 10mins. Then she walks to me to room with a bed and chair inside the room and she clearly says "he will be your therapist for the chair massage" and we greeted eachother. When I got in the room, I put my things down and he asked me to lay on the bed and I reiterated it was a chair massage and he nodded yes yes. So I figured he was warming up my body or something, but he made me stay on the bed the whole hour. I even asked about the chair and he just seemed to not understand me. Best massage ever, I don't know why people are saying they ask for better tips ect.. because that's not true. I've been there at least 50 times and nobody has ever asked for a better tip, usually LiNa gives me some money back and says I tip to much. Awesome place, if you want a great massage for best price in town try this place. LiNa, Lucie, Michele, and Katie all give wonderful massage. Wish I could afford to go more often.
