I was here for the first time ever yesterday. I ordered one of the items on their specials board, which are temporary menu items. I ordered the Apple Pie Pancakes. It's three of their pancakes with homemade apple pie filling on top. The waitress asked if I wanted whipped cream and I said of course. I was happy with the service. Our waitress was busy but made sure we had everything we needed. I changed this from four stars to five stars because there was very little wait for our food. It came out right away and I was really surprised and joyful about that. Ambiance was cute. It had some fall attributes. My open face chicken souvlaki was amazing! The chicken was sooo flavorful. I ordered for take out and it came out a few minutes after I arrived so it was hot and fresh. The servers all said hello and greeted me as I waited for my order. The restaurant was filled with delicious smelling aromas. Such a great local spot! Have been going here for years and years and it's always been consistently good quality! Breakfast and lunch/dinner options are all great. The greek potatoes in particular are amazing, along with the moussaka. Takeout went smoothly, including ordering over the phone and picking up the order (which was accurate and ready on time). Family Tree has been our go-to for breakfast, brunch, lunch ... for at least a decade. And it never fails. This week, my husband and I enjoyed a delicious French toast breakfast. And extra points for the fresh squeezed orange juice ... definitely order it! We have never been disappointed at Family Tree. Love eating at The Family Tree. There's plenty of seating to reduce wait times. The food is extremely solid diner food. The staff is also really wonderful. Also of note, I'm going to say that I think their fries are some of the best I've had in a long time. I'm a fan of the style French fry they serve and they ALWAYS come out hot and crispy. This is essential criteria in my book. Love the dessert offerings as well. The prices are also very reasonable with a wide range so that anyone is going to be able to find a delicious option in their price range. Venture here every year when my family is in town. Relatively speaking it is typically decent. The server ( older woman) we of course give benefit if doubt maybe shes going through a hard time or something major. The service was terrible. She was not friendly what so ever and we had to keep asking for water, boxes, plate, check. A lot of time In between. My cousin ended up feeling sick soon after. Possibly the food ( not positive) . I had quite a lot left over but later tossed it just not to chance food poisoning. Portions decent Home fries had TONS of onion. More onion than potato's. Half felt raw, half overdone. Server was very good. Ambiance is usual for a diner. We've been here numerous times and always order chicken souvlaki which we've enjoyed. The recent visit we noticed the stars next to some menu items and realized they were items the restaurant considered to be their specialty. The Reuben sandwich was noted as a specialty and we really enjoy reuben's so we ordered them. Our server confirmed it was a great choice. However, we received reuben sandwiches that were nearly impossible to eat. Not sure if it was the quality of the corned beef or how it was cooked, but we couldn't bite through the sandwich because it was so "tough". The meat could be stretched like a rubber band. Horrible. I used to love this place, however yesterday I placed and order with Uber eats, not only did they get the order wrong , the chicked (soulvaki ) was burnt and the potatoes were laying in a pan of grease. They were cold and not cooked properly. The hamburger from the kids meal was cold so when we went to separate it to reheat the burger the roll was wet and soggy and mushed up and fell apart. Best breakfast we have had in a long time. Everything was fresh, hot and delicious. Items ordered: breakfast combo- eggs, pancakes & bacon. Spinach omelette w/ potatoes and Corn beef & hash. This used to be such a nice family restaurant and now the food quality is horrendous (greasy, overcooked, small portions, the salads have almost nothing to them, etc), the floors are sticky, everything is dusty, the one corner booth by the bathrooms has apparently never been cleaned. The waitresses will disappear for after taking your order never to be seen again even though the restaurant is largely empty, unless you get the older waitress who will tell you about every problem she has ever had in her life. It was a Wednesday and breakfast was going to be my treat so I wanted something good and hot and a place where we'd get good service. My friend recommended the Family Tree. It was clear that some sort of conflict was going on between the one waitress and a man I assume was the manager of the business. You could see the stress in her face but then again this is a huge restaurant and people were seated all over the place. We were waited on quickly and I am thankful that I was told that the corned beef hash was from the can not something the kitchen prepares (She explained that around St. Patrick's Day they do real corned beef hash but the rest of the year ... well get the can opener out. This does beg the question ... why offer corned beef hash if your chef is not creating it?). So, the choice was easy .... this is a Green diner and Chicken Souvlaki breakfasts were on the menu. And, yes please put some fried onions with my home fries and pita. And, I did think the menu prices were higher than I am used to but as we move forward from the pandemic I really don't complain about an extra dollar here or there on restaurant menu's but I do recommend that those deciding prices not price themselves out especially for breakfasts. For breakfast I want that "warm comfy clean" feel and the size of Family Tree takes away from the possibility of creating atmosphere. I want my coffee cup filled ... I want good coffee. The noted conflict of the morning seemed to take the waitress's attention away from the tables as the manager kept coming up to her and directing her (I don't hear very well but the voice did not seem to be uplifting and encouraging, which was noticeable on the waitress' face.). So, the food arrived ... looked great and a large portion but the homefries were luke warm, which made the fried onions something I really didn't feel like eating. So, my finished plate showed the chicken souvlaki and a lot of potatoes destined for the trash. Super large restaurant that accepts reservations on the weekend. It is so hard to find a place that will accept 10+ people but Family Tree does. Decor hasn't changed in years..so it's one of those comfort food staples. Food came out quickly for 12 people which was great. I had the chicken and waffles. The waffle was very plain and was missing the rich butter taste but the chicken was seasoned well. In general the food is just okay. My 2 sons & I came here for their first time. The atmosphere was nice, The prices & selections were good, Their service was pretty good, Their food was delicious, Portion size was ok , but could've been a little bit more for the price. I seem to compare EVERY Greek place with Kostas & for the $$ , your plate is loaded there. But at The Family Tree, it could've used a little more food & how I definitely know this , is, I was able to eat dessert here with no problem. Which by the way, OMG !! They have an amazing selection of desserts, which I just happened to be seated next to. It took me about 10-15 min to decide what I wanted because everything looked sooooo good !! I ended up going with the Red Velvet Cake. I guess this was their first day serving it & I was the first to try it. This cake was out of this world !! We decided to go to this restaurant on a Tuesday night because we were both craving Chicken souvlaki we were greeted at the door and seeded the waitress came over and greeted us and took our order she was excellent she always came by to check to see if we needed anything else and to make sure that our drinks were full the Chicken souvlaki was delicious the only thing that I didn't care for was the oil dressing it was a little bit too vinegary for me and I also had the Greek potatoes and that was excellent the restaurant was clean and it was quiet but it was a great atmosphere overall everything was excellent I highly recommend this place and they also have a great fish fry hopefully next Friday will we will be able to go the last time we tried to go it was very crowded read more

Family tree is one of my favorite places for a souvlaki or greek food in general. They have two types of souvlaki meals one is open faced and the other is the dinner that comes with a potato of choice. You can choose from chicken, beef, gyro or falafel. All meat choices are really good but my favorite is their chicken. They also have really delicious breakfast, most of which is served all day (They have some menu items that end at noon I believe) but the rest are all day. Their staff is super friendly and helpful and are always a pleasure to work with. And their diningroom is huge and is great for large groups. They have daily and weekly specials that are worth trying and so many delicious pies and desserts. If you love greek food Family Tree never disappoints! read more

I used to go here all the time. I went here and ate food for well over a decade and then stopped. We had not been here in many many years. Our server was great! I tipped her more than the price of my meal. My food itself was not good neither was my daughters. I remember having an omelette, potatoes which the charged us separately for. I was told certain items were alacart. Which I don't mind if it's good. They weren't even cooked all the way through and were burnt on other ends. They tasted as if they had been soaking. Not good at all. My rye bread was hard and tasted weird as if it were already stale before it was toasted. The omelette was very blah, the chicken looked very good and was cooked very well but lacked the flavor it looked like it had. I order Taziki and I believe they only had dill sauce which was actually delicious. The feta did not come with my Greek breakfast so we had to order that deprecate and they give you a very tiny amount. I believe I order like six of them at almost $2 a piece. Ridiculous. We have enjoyed eating at this restaurant many times with good experience and good food. But, today was a disaster. The lunch special of soup and sandwich featured a Hot Meatloaf sandwich that was the worse tasting meatloaf I have ever had. The presentation left much to be desired -- a slop of brown coagulated brown gravy dripping of the side of the dish that reeked of some kind of herb. I swear the meat must have been dog food!! After two bites, we couldn't eat any more. I guess we should have complained to the waitress, but instead, being the polite patrons, we smiled and took the rest home for the dog - and he wouldn't eat it either. Whatever you do, DO NOT order the hot meatloaf sandwich. It is GOD AWFUL. read more

The waitress was friendly and personable. Our breakfasts came out quickly with a large serving of home fries and generous serving of bacon. I was expecting 2 slices and I was happy to see my plate. This is probably my favorite diner in Buffalo. Their food is really good and you can actually get their sandwiches gluten free! I come here with my mom a lot. The last time we were here, our waiter was a little slow, but usually the waitstaff is friendly and attentive. I always get the same thing here: the gluten free patty melt. I can't begin to tell you how happy I am that they can use gluten free bread for your lunch order. I'm used to never having sandwiches in restaurants, but the bread is actually good and the meat is always cooked properly. The last time we went, my mom had a hot fudge sundae. It was enormous! For about $4, you can have it as an ample meal. The ice cream was fresh and the hot fudge was the perfect temperature. The waiter was nice enough to put the cherries on the side for me, so I didn't have to go digging in the sundae itself for them. The clientele is usually quiet, so this is a relaxing place to eat. I tried this place because I wanted to have some brunch alone. I would say although they give great portion sizes, the food is very bland. I think it is a great bang for your buck. But if you are looking for a meal that will blow your socks off this place will definitely not offer that. This restaurant is a WHOLE lot bigger than what it looks like on the outside. The overall feel of the place is like a homey-er version of Denny's. We ordered a chili omelette and mushroom omelette, and two coffees. The food came out very fast, and the portions were HUGE.
