I was hesitant at first when I saw that the menu is mostly American food, with a heavy focus on breakfast and brunch. Why would I come to a Greek restaurant for American diner food? With a careful look through the multi-page menu to seek out the Greek items, they are there, you just have to search. And they are GOOD. The spanakopita was especially outstanding so I'll start there - it's a circular roll-up style, a bit heavier on the filo dough and lighter on the spinach filling, with excellent flavor and textures. I loved the hummus and tzatziki (and I make these at home so I'm pretty picky about them). The pitas were hot, fresh, and fluffy. The spicy dip is good but *very* spicy which I wasn't prepared for! I didn't love the dolmades since they were cold and I prefer them warm (seemed actively chilled, not like "plate was sitting", so I assume this was a purposeful choice, just not my thing). The Royal Open Greek Souvlaki is a gigantic salad with a pita on top. This was excellent with char-broiled chicken; it was topped with a very generous pile of feta cheese and came with spicy vinaigrette on the side. We enjoyed the baklava so much we got a second one to take home. It's very filo-heavy with not many nuts and not overly honey-sticky; I couldn't quite place the flavor but it's almost like a cinnamon roll version of baklava. They are pretty large for the price and I'd definitely recommend ending the meal with this if you still have room. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The dining area is nice, well lit and with beautiful decor that gives a fun Greek vibe to the space. The ceiling is painted to look like blue sky with clouds, and there is a lovely mural near the back[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Noise level was reasonable so you can have conversations at the table without yelling and also without feeling like everybody hears you.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our server was friendly, although we were surprised that she hadn't tried some of the menu items and couldn't give us her opinion on them. Please try the food! Also we didn't get water refills and it didn't feel so busy that water should get ignored. OMG this food was amazing. I was hesitant because I wanted Greek food, but the menu had everything BUT Greek almost. The waitress was also not familiar with the food. Usually a bad sign. The Greek items are buried in the menu and need to be dug out. HOWEVER... once you find the Greek food it is absolutely STELLAR!!! I'm late with my review and I don't remember all the things I ordered now, but when family comes to town, we will 100% be coming here. It's absolutely outstanding! My only complaint is that they don't seem proud of their Greek menu and those items are buried instead of easy to find and order and the waitress wasn't knowledgeable about all the food. "Back in my day" it was a requirement that servers knew the menus and tastes all the items. Times be a changing. Still, I can't knock a star off because of how amazing our food was. read more

Then to follow up, we got the mini breakfast special which consisted of one egg four pieces of bacon or two pieces of sausage and two small pieces of toast. I found the food to be very mid-level not anything special and very greasy. .. the kicker is $7.20 for 2 cups of coffee. Man, that's crazy and I'll never go back!! Another note: we asked if the biscuits and gravy --sausage gravy was homemade and she said no it's from a can. So it's $11 for just biscuits and gravy on the menu- no eggs. But, if you look to get a side of sausage gravy -which would be portion from the canned product... they charge a WHOPPING $6.20 for just a side of the canned sausage gravy ALONE. Beautiful beer battered haddock and seasoned potatoes oh my. The fish was cooked perfectly and was a gorgeous golden brown. Potatoes were seasoned but not overly so. Our waitress was excellent and we never had to ask for refills. My family and I have been coming here for breakfast lunch and dinner for probably 14 or 15 years. I would bet that we've been there over 150 times. We even brought groups there a couple times, in the side room. The reason that we've gone, is that the food is always very good, and the prices are fair. However, not once in 15 years has ownership ever acknowledged us as regular, or steady customers. Not when the father was alive, and not now when his daughter runs the restaurant. The only reason why I mention that, is because of what occurred today while the owner was in the restaurant. My son had his usual 12 ounce strip steak with eggs and toast and I had a turkey club sandwich that we've ordered dozens of times. I would always get curly Q fries. There's an up-charge for them as well as a steak fries, but I was told the curly fries are made fresh. Well not today. They were old and greasy, and probably sitting on the griddle for hours. I took one bite out of my turkey sandwich and either the turkey was spoiled, or the cheese was spoiled. Maybe it was both! They both had off putting flavors. My son told me his steak didn't taste right and I had him cut a piece and I smelled it and it was rancid. For the first time in the 150 times we've visited, we sent food back, because of quality. The waitress was very contrite, and offered my son something else and he had pancakes and bacon, which was good. I first showed the waitress the fries and she said they "have new potatoes", and offered to get me steak fries. When she finally came back with the steak fries, I explained to her that the sandwich was in- edible. She apologized. Ownership never came over. The pancakes were very large. My son could not finish them. We waited about 15 minutes for someone to bring a box over, but nobody came over. They weren't busy. They charged me for the pancakes and bacon. And charged me $6.05 for steak fries! That horrible meal should've been for free! We barely ate anything. It was so bad. We can never go back. When I went in last week with two of my children, the owner was there and she asked if I wanted a cup of coffee and I said only if it is fresh and strong. She basically told me the coffee is what it is, and she's not gonna make a new pot. I told her that one of her waiters always put two bags in the brewer to make it stronger for me, and she had a smirk on her face. She wasn't gonna do that for me. [I hope I didn't get the waiter fired if he still working there]. Also, their prices have gone up considerably. It is no longer a reasonably priced meal. It's sad because we all liked it, there. We felt comfortable there, and the food was always good and the wait staff nice. Had several orders but the fried food was the end all Rancid oil was so BAD that we not only couldn't eat the fried food we had to place the food outside as the entire house smelled disgusting from the rancid oil. Their prices are not cheap and after you add $1.00 to every Togo order they are actually more expensive than other places. I've been going to the Royal since I was a teenager. The crowd tends to be a little older, but it is great for all ages and families. My grandma and I used to go here all the time before she passed and the waitstaff treated her amazingly. Some of my best memories with her were from this establishment. My go-to meal is the Greek platter, which consists of spanakopita and a Greek salad. Their serving sizes are very generous and someone at my table jokes that they gave her half a bag of fries with her meal. I also recently got the potato pancakes and they are as big as the plate! I struggled to eat two. By far, my favorite thing to get at the Royal is breakfast. I usually get a combo platter and have never had to send anything back in the 50+ times I've been here. Great place to have a breakfast or brunch. This restaurant does offer dine in. The seatings are every other table to keep the six feet apart rule. Masks while waiting for a table. They also do paper menu and also they do not take it back from the customers. Super safe time eat at! My friends and I came here to eat after a night shift. I ordered the egg benedict but it is with the cheese sauce rather than hollandaise which was rather interesting to me. I never had the cheese sauce before so I thought I give it a try. The good itself was great but the sauce was okay for me. It was a little heavy for me but my friend enjoyed it. The rest of my friends enjoyed their food. I love a good diner. I love Buffalo diners. This is my new favorite one, and that is saying a lot. I almost always order a hot turkey sandwich when I go to diners at lunchtime - and today was no different. But let me tell you, this hot turkey sandwich was life changing. The sandwich came out with some thiccc, freshly sliced turkey on the standard white bread with a cascade of the tastiest gravy on top. The side of fries - fantastic. This was a chosen spot by family for a lunch while I was in town. I was familiar with the restaurant yet haven't been in many years so was excited for the choice. I ordered the Greek wrap in a pita pocket, lamb and tzatziki. You're able to order how you'd like your meat cooked which is nice and I asked for a side of tzatziki as well. Now if you'll see my picture I was a bit concerned why it looked like someone had half eaten my pickle. Everyone else that had a pickle received a "full" pickle where mine honestly looked like it had been eaten. This was concerning and I did not eat it. The lamb was quite fatty. Some pieces I couldn't eat as there was just too much fat on it. The tzatziki sauce was very good but overall I wasn't super pleased with the quality of lamb. One of the children had ordered chicken tenders and though I didn't eat them they were huge! I was very impressed with the size of them! Some other meals also looked very appetizing. I came here today with a friend and had kind of an odd experience. It was dead when we arrived, so our waitress told us to sit anywhere. We chose a booth because I have a bad back. We ordered waters and I got the gyro dinner. If you ever order this, just be aware that the gyro is sliced in house off a skewer and therefore, your meat is not thin. I didn't mind because the meat was flavorful and well seasoned, but it's different from what I'm used to when I get gyro. The sides were crazy. They were plentiful and required a separate plate, which probably should have been even bigger. You see...they were all mixed together. The salad was under the rice and potatoes, just lying in wait for the Greek dressing. I, personally, hate when I'm served food this way. I didn't WANT lettuce in my rice or onions in my potatoes, but it's so much food that that's the way it comes I guess. Our waitress was a doll, which is why this review got an extra star. Overall, it's not a good option for dinner, but I bet their breakfast is good because there were 3 pages of it in their menu. I suggest coming here during that time instead. read more

If you take a group to eat here, they will treat you like a Lorde. But you'll never be Royals. What to get: Chicken Souvlaki Dinner, and Chocolate Shake. What else is good: International Meat Omelette, other Souvlakis. English people don't like the Royal Family, so I was pre-destined to give a restaurant called "Royal Family" a low rating. Unfortunately the food here is so incredible, that I was unable to fulfil my destiny, I failed miserably, and I gave it a 5, for having some of the best souvlaki, omelettes and shakes anywhere! I'm updating the review because it's no longer my fave Souvlaki in town, the chefs changed or something. Alton's is better by a stretch, Towne is better too, so is Spilios. Alton's is #1. A slightly smaller portion and you don't get rice, but their chicken marinades for days before it is cooked to perfection. Royal's is sometimes dry and tastes more like a hearty chicken kebab... but for dreamy melt in your mouth marinaded greek style chicken perfection from heaven - Alton's is significantly superior. Towne too. Spilios too. Oh by the way if you try and open a rival diner around here you could do really well. You can be really successful. But you'll never be Royal. Anyway, back to the review. Royal, Royal, Royal. All in all this may be the second best Souvlaki I have ever tasted. The service here is excellent and they are open 24 hours, but don't let that fool you. This place makes fantastic, unrivalled gourmet Greek dishes and American fare that will blow your mind and fill you to the brim. What's more, the food here is available around the clock, and is just as good at 2am as it is at 2pm. The menu is huge and not everything is as wonderful, but the Chicken Souvlaki Dinner stands in a class alone. Occasionally, they are not as good, I think it depends on which chef is cooking, but that just adds to its local charm in a way. It's one of the biggest dinners you'll ever get for $12. They have a half-portion-ish thing called "Open Chicken Souvlaki" for $7 or $8. But when you get the works, you get delicious Greek rice, juicy spicy Greek Potatoes, a tasty Greek Salad with feta and onions, some Pita Bread, and of course the piece-de-resistance... the chicken. You come here for this chicken alone, believe me. It is that good. It is probably the second best Chicken Souvlaki I have ever tasted. The only place that is definitively, clearly better is Altons. Sometimes the salad here is not particularly good - it usually is but once in awhile it tastes a little old. My friend Al was like, "I am thinking of legally changing my name to Roy". I was like, you can do that if you want, but you'll never be Roy, Al." The Greek dressing/oil is also fantastic and I highly recommend it. Their breakfast food is good, and their omelettes are excellent. Their Gyro is Buffalo-style, I love it, you may not like it, or you may love it. But yeah the Greek Oil tastes fit for a King. You may think your own oil is decent (not baby oil silly, tsk tsk). But it'll never be Royal Oil. There's something about Buffalo Diners that is different to diners everywhere else in the world. I'm not sure what it is. For some reason, diners in Buffalo know how to make Chicken Souvlaki. Hell yes. This place does milkshakes right. They get a large metal tin (huge in fact), and fill it with delicious ice cream and milk. If you're lucky (or, if you ask for it), they might even give you the whole metal tin, with the leftover milkshake inside it... which is basically giving you another half milkshake. That, my friends, is how you make a milkshake. And this place scores 5/5 for that alone. I told Roland Orzabal. You can call yourself whatever you want dude. But you'll never be Raoul. What I love about Royal: the fantastic service, the lovely waiters and waitresses, the Greek guy that knows me and always talks soccer with me, the amazing kebab-like hearty Chicken Souvlaki, the rice, the Greek Potatoes, the oil, the hearty meat omelettes, and the fact they are open 24 hours, also the amazingly delicious homestyle chocolate milkshakes, and the enormous, massive, huge, gargantuan portions that would feed a family. What I don't love: the sometimes old-tasting salad, the menu which is 10 times longer than it needs to be for a Greek diner, the sausage burp you get all day when you eat their International Meat Omelette which is amazing by the way, the insane price of a milkshake here (five dollars what?), and the fact that the milkshake (which is huge) is the same price when you get it to go (which is less than half the size). Get to Royal and try this! And as long as you don't develop rectal problems later in life, you'll never be hemorrhoidal. It doesn't run in your blood. That kind of anal problem's not for us. We crave a different kind of backdoor-type buzz. We like to use rulers. Rulers. The kind you use in school. Then we end up in E.R. And it's embarrassing. Let's not live that fantasy. read more

I was looking for a healthy snack after a grueling weekend workout and errand running and decided to venture in here based on some other yelpers reviews. Inadvertently, I ended up here on Easter. They have a parking lot and they are open 24 hours. I just sat at the diner bar and ordered a coffee and an open faced chicken souvlaki. The coffee kept flowing and was delicious. The souvlaki came a bit later and had a ton of grilled chicken, onions, tomatoes and a few slices of pita. It came with their famous virgin olive oil (for the side salad). The grilled chicken was delicious, although I would have liked it to have been juicier. Nonetheless, it was a healthy meal and eating it with the salad and olive oil gave me all the flavor I needed. The water fountain inside the restaurant is beautiful and the interior seemed like it was above what I generally expect in an inexpensive 24-hour diner. They did a great job with social distancing the tables. The menu was all digital on your phone. The waitress was friendly and took our order after we had time to look over the menu. The food was okay but nothing great. The beef solvaki was on the small side and just made with iceberg lettuce and the beef was over cooked. The Greek potatoes were undercooked and so hard you couldn't cut them with a fork. The corned beef hash came out crispy and was delicious. The Royal is located across from the Olympic at Military and Sheridan Drive. They are open 24/7 which is ideal after a late night, when you don't feel like fast food. They have an excellent breakfast menu. I love their waffles and omelettes. Their chicken fingers are also delicious. When I'm there after a night out, I usually order the appetizer sampler, which has mozz stix, chicken fingers and pizza logs. It's perfect. Their Greek menu is also very good. I really love the Spanikopita and the Souvlaki. Their tzatziki sauce is perfect!
