I am not sure why I am giving this place three stars! I am just in a good mood now. We got there at 11:30 and the place was fairly busy. However, they had a lot of seating available and were taken right to a table. So far, so good! Then we waited, and waited, and waited, and even waited some more. I mean no waitress came over and we had no water, silverware and 2 hungry children. Maybe a half hour went by and I looked around for the one waitress that I saw. After making direct eye contact with her, I got a, "I'll be there in one minute" response. Maybe she needs a better watch? We finally get our water, silverware and need to order everything at one time. That is ok. Then we waited and you guessed it... waited a little more. My mushroom soup came complete with undissolved cornstarch clumps. We at least did not have to pay extra for the clumps. The eggs were good. The potatoes were not that bad either. I can't even complain about the waitress that much because we almost never saw her. After being served, she disappeared again. I mean she did a Houdini act and vanished for about 45 minutes. We asked for a little coffee and our bill. We eventually got both. Since we had 6 people, they added a 20% tip automatically on. I'm sure that part was listed somewhere. I just didn't see it. I came here with a friend and got their open chicken souvlaki dinner. Everything was pretty good, not great and pretty much what you'd expect from your local Buffalo Greek restaurant. Staff was very friendly and the pricing was good as well. The table and surrounding area were kind of dingy and in need of a good scrub as there was a veneer of dust on some of the distanced tables that wasn't the best look. The inside is huge with loads of tables and there is probably always room even during pandemic times. It's been a while, but I used to come here with my family when we'd gather to come home for a visit or for the holidays in Buffalo. My Mother loved the breakfasts here and we'd come and have breakfast before we all headed back to our destinations. She'd come with my brother and niece who still live in town frequently as well. She's gone now, but I remember coming here at least five or six times with the rest of the family and it was superb. Simply FANTASTIC breakfasts and the staff were always so nice and attentive. The corned beef hash had little diced potatoes and ground corned beef with over medium eggs, which were cooked perfectly and delicious over the top of the hash. Enjoyed breakfast with a party of eight. I could not believe how enormous this restaurant was, great place to go if you have a large party, and didn't even need reservations. I ordered the eggs benedict with home fries and onions. It was good, but definitely underwhelming. The waitress was nice. One of our friends order chili and it smelled good and she said it was a perfect amount of seasoning, others seemed to enjoy their meals as well. The desert case looked amazing, but by the time I was done with breakfast, I was full. I really enjoyed the European fresh OJ maker! A pretty big serving of fish, lots of tomato sauce with a lot of tomato chunks in it and a big scoop of mashed potatoes with gravy. The white fish was quit tasty and well seasoned. Eggs were done perfectly but the hash was way over salted and usually that means it wasn't made in the kitchen. You've made hash right? Shred potato and onion, cook till mostly done then add the corned beef the last 2 minutes. Go to a place like Lake Effect, Sophia's or Crazy Ottos and see how it's done correctly. Friend had a Reuben. Easy to make. I once had one at the Carnegie Deli, and that is how all others must be measured. Carnegie Deli 100, Katz's 100. Corky and Lenny's in Cleveland 90. But here? 12. My husband and I recently celebrated 20 years of total togetherness. It sort of snuck up on us. We had no plans. Last minute, we went to one of our favorite Greek diners (Olympia on NFB). But the parking lot was full, and the waiting room packed. So we plan-B'd, and ended up at Family Tree. We've been here a couple times over the years. It is one of those restaurants that is pretty good, no complaints, but for whatever reason we don't think of it too often. For our double-decades impromptu meal, it hit the spot. My husband had the chicken souvlaki dinner. It was a large plate, everything was cooked well and flavorful. Our son wanted steak and eggs, but the portion on the menu was pretty big for a kid. The waiter went out of his way to ask the chef to prepare a smaller cut. It was an ideal size for our 11-year old dude, he gobbled up his whole spread. I am a local egg-white omelet connoisseur, always with mushrooms, feta and American cheese. The one I tried here was decent. The egg whites themselves weren't as fluffy as I prefer, but it was a big omelet with plenty of stuffing. The home fries and onions were generous and tasty, too. For dessert, the waiter was honest that the cake and pie slices are skimpy here. Our son had a slice of red velvet cake, that was very small for a diner. The hubbs got baklava cheesecake, which would have been small but the waiter said two pieces stuck together so he got a super-sized slice. I had a bite of each, and both desserts were delicious. It was dinner time but naturally they offer breakfast all the time. We both ordered omelettes. Considering we didn't wait long at all, my omelette was strangely not very hot. Let me tell you something about milkshakes. A lot of places don't make them right. A lot of cities, in fact, don't make them right. Fast food outlets in particular tend to make horrendous milkshakes. A lot of people use obvious chemical flavourings to achieve the shake. Buffalo does milkshakes right. This place does milkshakes right. They get a large metal tin (huge in fact), and fill it with delicious ice cream and milk. Then they blend it using a real milkshake making blender, and it takes quite awhile. You can always tell if you are going to get a real milkshake when you order it, because the waitress will often look exasperated, because it's a lot of extra work for her. But man is it worth it. These kinds of chocolate milkshakes in particular, are divine. And that is how they make the milkshakes at this place. If you're lucky (or, if you ask for it), they might even give you the whole metal tin, with the leftover milkshake inside it... which is basically giving you another half milkshake. They almost always make too much. That, my friends, is how you make a milkshake. And this place scores 5/5. One last thing. If this restaurant was called Family Hep-C, you wouldn't want to go here because you'd likely get Hep-C from peeing in the urinals. Wait am I peeing wrong? I liked that I could customize my order, I was able to get some fries instead of Greek potatoes for my main meal. First, let's talk about about he grape leaves. Stuffed grape leaves are hit or miss for me. I really enjoyed these, they were stuffed with rice and you really can't go wrong with rice imo. The meal itself was so big I had left overs for 2 days. It was well worth the price and so tasty too! The rice pudding was delicious. I just can't find something about this place that makes it stand out to me in terms of their souvlaki, however their dessert options are unique. Galaktouboureko is very good here. This is my mom's favorite restaurant. We stop here every week on the way to the movies, as well as other times. Mom loves the spanikopita, and I agree it's excellent. I like the stuffed cabbage and the meat loaf. Who still eats these dishes? I do! There's a separate area for groups, so if your club or organization needs a place to eat and meet, they can accommodate you. The menu seems incredibly lock-step.
