Do not have a Famous Dave's in our area, so we like to visit when we see one. Five for dinner. We were promptly greeted and seated. Our server was over to greet us pretty quick and to take drink orders. We were very pleased with the service and when the food came, it was exactly as ordered! Everything was very good. Our waitress was the sweetest and we had no problem with the service but the food was terrible. The food tasted like frozen food they warmed up. My brisket was cold, they gave me the soggiest piece of toast with my combo that was cold, the catfish fingers were almost burnt and one looked like someone took a bite, my boyfriend's macaroni and cheese was super dry and stale. This was honestly one of the worst places we've been in a while. We can only think of one worse restaurant. Service was subpar. Robotic like waitress, but that's fine, she was probably overworked so we didn't fret. We should've known better since it is a chain. Everything was salty. Not just lightly salted, inedible salty. Seriously the brisket was as if someone put a whole container of salt on this portion alone. We had to send it back and requested someone on staff try it. Waitress said that is expected with the seasoning. There is seasoning and then there's someone forgot and salted the food too many times. Ambiance was typical of a chain. Very "southern" style. We popped in for lunch hoping to find the Brewers game playing in the bar. When it wasn't, we asked a server to try and find the game.....success!! I was impressed by his willingness to fulfill our request. We started out with an order of fried cheese curds. Nothing special, but not too bad either. For our lunches we ordered a pulled pork sandwich and an order of special Mac n cheese with pulled chicken on top. I should have read the menu closer, as I wasn't expecting jalapenos in the dish. I don't understand how this place gets bad reviews. The service was fast, food was so good, and brisket was melt in your mouth tender. Love the versatility with the sauces. Wish they had fried pickles though! The cheese curds are so yum! Mac and cheese was mediocre but the bbq is spot on. Stopping through a resort town during offseason, one wouldn't expect to find good bbq, and one would be right with those expectations. While I commend this location for being open, the food was just weirdly prepared, our order was missing items, and the young lady at the front desk taking orders had such severe communication problems, putting down the phone multiple times to ask the kitchen about questions that could have been answered by reading the menu, we were actually surprised our order wasn't more messed up. My family had always raved about a famous Dave's they go to so my wife and I decided we would try this out. The restaurant itself was nice, dining room didn't seem run down. Service was pretty fast. Not very attentive, we saw our waitress when we first arrived and when our food came out, and to deliver the check. Not much more than that, and this was not a busy night by any stretch. Food was just okay. I ordered the founders feast and my wife had the Mac and cheese with pulled chicken. My opinion could be tainted due to my father in law and I enjoying smoking our own meats at home. Pulled pork lacked flavor, chicken was okay, still wouldn't recommend it. Ribs were pretty decent. Baked beans had too much of a ketchup flavor. Mac and Cheese didn't have much cheese in it. I love coming here when we have an appetite, you're usually in for a decent sized plate! It's a chain so the food isn't the absolute best in the state but all of the meat is delicious and there's a nice array of sides to choose from (you get two) plus cornbread with every meal. Their signature sauces on every table are killer! I always end up pouring it over everything. Nice thing is that you can get combos to try a couple of different items. Decent prices, you're paying for the amount you get. Fun atmosphere, definitely an entertaining one for kids! Fast service. Any cons? This was the WORST service I've had in my 50 years of life. No exaggeration. We called ahead and were told no wait. We love their food so chose to go there. The hostesses on main floor was rude. She did not acknowledge us. When I finally spoke up and she rudely sent us upstairs. The upstairs host was much more smiley. We thought things were looking up. We were wrong. We sat for 20 minutes before anyone came to the table. We tried to order drinks but they said they only hv beer and wine. We ordered our food right away. We then sat for over an hour without our food and without the server even checking on us. We tried to find someone to get another beer and couldn't even find any server to help us. We counted that the server only had 2 other tables. Another waitress also had 2 tables. She was barely on the floor as well. The host just stood there smiling and wouldn't help us either. I have been coming to famous Dave's for over 15 years now. I used to work at the original famous Dave's in Hayward WI so I know how good the food is. Me and my husband order the feast always , and it always comes with brisket. The brisket is suppose to be falling apart soft and eatable. The brisket that is served here now is terrible. Its so tough almost as if it's boiled. obviously I know it isn't boiled but they aren't cooking it right. It should melt in your mouth, that is not the case at this location. Family was on vacation at Kalahari Resort at the Dells. We pulled in to the resort and noticed a Famous Dave's nearby. We decided to eat there on our last night there. First of all the handles were removed on the sink in the mens room which makes one wonder and no they weren't automatic on/off. The meats (ribs, chicken , burnt ends, chopped pork and brisket) were soooo overcooked and dried out like the were cooked on Monday warmed all day Tuesday and served to us on Wednesday afternoon. Coleslaw, corn on the cob, beans all terrible. Only thing that was good was the cornbread. We ate at a Famous Dave's years ago in Sandusky and it was a fabulous family memory! Our party of 10 was seated quickly, but I should have been more suspicious when they didn't answer their phone earlier in the day (I wanted to see if they take reservations). The service was poor. Our teen/twenty-something server must have been pulled off the street--poor intro, poor follow up visits (eg is there anything I can get you? howz the food?), molasses slow on taking care of our check and zero charm to top it off. The food was poor. Brisket that looked and tasted like roast beef. All the food was served at room temperature. The heaping pile of rib tips was inedible-- 90% cartiledge and disgusting. If your are the Manager/GM of this site and are reading this, you need to get your house in order. You've turned "Famous Dave's" into "Infamous Daves". Famous Dave's has some of the best BBQ I've ever had at a restaurant. Upon arrival, you're quickly under the impression that they take their food seriously - obviously they do. The wait staff was extremely courteous and efficient, (especially impressive since we had a large party). The food arrived in a reasonable amount of time, and there was no fumbling around trying to figure out who ordered what (!!). Onto the food...it was at a nice temp, and the portion sizes were fairly large. The cornbread is especially addicting! Highly recommend if you're up North. read more

We've been coming to the Dells for over 10 years and come to Famous Dave's every year. We have always loved the food and have kept coming back because of it. The past couple of years, the service has been subpar but we kept coming back because we love the food so much. However, last night, our Famous Dave's experience was not good. Our drinks were always empty and we never saw our waitress, who was considerably rude, except for when she brought us our drinks and took our food orders. When our food was brought, the manager helped the waitress bring our food as our party was 14 people. She was yelling at us what food she was holding on constant repeat and was visibly annoyed when she had to repeat herself more than two times. Very unprofessional. On top of that, more than half of our table's food was cold and three of us had corn muffins with mold on the bottom. Would recommend finding another barbecue place in the Dells. read more
